Mr. Gary, I appreciate your work, your work is full of knowledge, it is rare to see that people really know what they are doing and very nice that you do not hide the knowledge. I have a problem, so I'm asking for help. For a long time, I drive a BMW x3 automatic transmission, marked zf6hp19, and I regularly change the oil and filter every 50Kkm. Lately, during colder temperatures, immediately after starting, if the first gear is put into reverse, the car drives suddenly after 1 minute or moving forward, the problem no longer occurs. Otherwise, it drives and changes gears perfectly. What do you think could be the problem? Thanks for your work and possible answer! All the best!
@@GaryFerraro He jumps up and pushes intensively so that the brake does not hold him back as if he is not regulating the pressure at that moment. After changing the speed forward for approx. 20 seconds and switching to reverse again, everything is normal. It only happens on the first move after sitting overnight while the outside temp is around or below 41F.
Hi Gary, amazing videos. I have a BMW X5 3.0, which I just purchased. Upon checking, the tranny should be a 6hp19, however I found that the trans has been replaced with a 6hp21. The vehicle had water in the trans which I have fixed, however now it won’t shift into 3rd. Just wondering if the 21 should have been installed? Second, would the valve body be the main culprit here. Slight delay when engaging gears. Thanks Peter
Hi Gary, I'm from Northern Ireland and I'm looking to overhaul my 6HP28 Valve body, the solenoids are easily sourced from ZF, can you direct me to a service kit please. Is there any way of knowing what separator plate I need without dropping the trans pan?
Hi Gary great video mate👍🏻, I have a 2006 range rover sport v6 3.0 diesel and the reverse gear is not engaging, haven't got any codes apart from the usual lost commuinication with tcm which has been there for years now but the car was reversing. I bought a new sump pan the plastic one with filter replace the oil problem still not solved. I have just taken out the valve body open it and notice a black thick sludge on the plate in the middle, I have cleaned that plate since its not available my end. I have tested the solenoids and they all reading around 6.7 ohms apart from the single black one that is reading around 10.7 ohms. Would be grateful for further advice with this my project. Thank you and God bless for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you for your content Gary ! 2010-12 Hyundai Genesis coupe 3.8 with zf6hp19. Does it have the separater plate 053 or no? My understanding is, some generation ZFs didn't come with the 053 plate. Thank you ! I either wanna try and overhaul the valve body ( like you're doing) or just buy a reman and install.
I’m rebuilding a 6hp21 with a Sonnax kit right now and when I put the o-ring on the bore plugs they’re too big (both the large and small bore plugs). The bore plug fits perfectly without the o-ring. Have you encountered this?
Thank you so much for the detailed assembly. I'm looking to drain my transmission fluid on my 2007 bmw x5, but now i feel i should do preventive maintenance and do everything you just did. Where did you the the valve body separator plate from ? Did the valve kit come from Sonnax? Thank you again
The kit is a Transgo shift kit as long as you have a Gen 1 unit, the kit will work, does not work on Gen 2 units. I got my parts from Transtar. Where are you located?
Hi Gary. Transgo has an additional 2 valves kit which requires reaming however the manual requires only a drill. Would it be advisable to ream with a drill only without the proper stand and machine?
it is probably just a reamer, i used the like this from Transgo on other transmisions, you have to support the valvebody so it does not move, i clamp them down to my work bench
