    Man, big props to the women in this scene. There's some subtlety to their reactions here! They don't freak out immediately - they get infatuated with him, they're puzzled about it at first, but eventually they completely give in. Like Tom Parker said, "they were having feelings they were not sure they should enjoy"!

    • @MarineVeteran99
      @MarineVeteran99 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      More proof that women are driven with feelings and emotions. More proof also that women don't need to be taken out on dates (especially today) in order to sleep with you. Make her feel a certain way, and even if she barely knows you, she'll open up her legs to you. Even in the 1950's anyone of those women would have slept with Elvis just for being himself without even really knowing him. But, because he made them feel a certain way and was of high status, they would have spread their legs to him without question.

      @@MarineVeteran99 what a dumb reply. Are women not allowed to show desire or attraction towards a celebrity? Men do it all the time with famous actresses and other female celebrities. I can guarantee that despite your dumb 'moral' posturing you would jump at the chance to sleep with a hot actress/singer, as would many men (which is not an issue in and of itself). But. I don't think nothing could've stopped Elvis from putting the love of the crowd above his family. That I believe was on him. Stars especially young ones from small beginnings like Elvis have a nasty habit of getting drunk on it to the point where they push everything aside.
      But I also blame his father for not stepping up. Bc everything fell apart once Mrs. Presley died. His cousin tried his best to get between Elvis and the Colonel but unfortunately it wasn't enough... I just wish Elvis took his wife's offer to go to rehab. We could've seen Elvis in his golden years.
      And maybe if he did it would've been one of the greatest comebacks and recovery stories since RDJ with his drug problem too. Maybe even been an inspiration

    I don't think people genuinely understand how critical this scene in the film was. It shows the relaxing of extremely conservative longstanding social norms at the time and gave birth to the counter-culture movement that dominated America for the next 25 years. This man literally drove women mad with lust, love and infatuation... I've never seen an actor better portray a famous late musician which such ease and perfection with the exception of Jamie Foxx playing Ray Charles in "Ray".
    The dad said it best in response to Elvis' mom's worries... "Hurt him?? Looks like they wanna FFF-." 🤣😂🤣 I busted out laughing in the theater when that scene happened because he was absolutely right.

      As for this time period, I think it had more to do with them not having any real outlet to let loose socially in a way that boys and men did, I don't think it was a "mad with lust" thing. Also worth noting that it wasn't every woman screaming

      @Jonny D. Schiller You think that people who spent a lot of time, money and effort to create a elvis biopic thinks he is "boring" because you don't like the musical score to the movie?
      Wouldn't it just be easier to disagree with the choice of music instead of making up an absurd theory that the filmmakers, making an Elvis biopic, feel his music is boring? Why would they make the movie if that's the case?

Nonetheless, it really saddens me how misinformed a lot of you’re pertaining to black Americans and our countless musical contributions, we created every relevant music genre in MODERN DAY HISTORY. There isn’t anything original about Elvis when his legacy is filled with thievery, most of his best songs were stolen from or written by black people. Otis Blackwell wrote songs for Elvis and when he recorded them, it sounded just like Otis demo records.

Elvis wasn’t just some old guy in Vegas your grandparents liked. He was a young raw punk musician on the cutting edge of new styles of music. I think the modern music was a great way to add some edginess back in and give us a better feeling of what that time period would’ve been to our modern sensibilities.

      There's also the fact that, at least in white music, those type of moves were unheard of. "Proper" singing was done standing still, and "proper" music tended to be gentle & slow-paced - and then here came Elvis with a musical and performing style that he picked up from growing up in a poor black neighborhood, attending a black church with his black friends. That culture left its mark on him, and he boldly showed it proudly to the white mainstream in a way that nobody else had before.
      And that, sadly, was where much of the backlash stemmed from. To quote a real person filmed speaking about it back then, who was pretty damn candid about it, "The obscenity and vulgarity of the rock and roll music is obviously a means by which the white man and his children can be driven to the level with the n***. It is obviously n*** music." Elvis maintained that he didn't do anything wrong.

    The movie actually SOMEHOW put THE WRONG SONG IN IT. In reality, Elvis’ performance in the Louisiana hayride were his first hit songs “It’s All Right” and “Blue Moon” from one of his 1953 Sun Records releases. They clearly listened to the recording of the show (which can be found on TH-cam) because they got the intro pretty good, but HOW HARD IS IT TO GET THE SONG RIGHT?
    They also kinda over exaggerated the scene because in the actual audio of the performance there are only a few times where the crowd actually freaks out over Elvis, and he never had to be pulled offstage because they still had time to close the show in the recording.
