I'll have to admit that, at first, when watching the trailers for "ELVIS," I thought that Austin Butler looked nothing like him, but, seeing the recreated segments of the '68 Comeback Special' and 'Aloha from Hawaii' convinced me that Baz Luhrmann found the perfect way to capture the 'spirit' of Presley, and Austin Butler personifies it to perfection! Not so much with Tom Hank's 'Tom Parker' portrayal, though.

Let me just say, I absolutely loved the movie.
But ultimately, NO movie could capture the iconic elvis presley in the recording studio.
Baz specifically chose songs that would be easy for Austin to sing live.
Austin only does a few songs.
"Baby let's play house" was brilliant. But everything else was bits and pieces, because Austin has a very limited voice.
Throughout the movie, it's mostly elvis's voice.
Baz knew to only use Austin's voice jn a very limited fashion.

Baz said from the start of the Elvis Project in 2014 ..."I can't make this movie if I can't find my Elvis". He knew what he wanted in his Elvis, and Austin Butler delivered the goods, in spades. The best Elvis to grace the big screen except for the great man himself of course. Prior to Baz Luhmann's ELVIS the only other comparison we Elvis fans had was the John Carpenter release "Elvis The Movie" with Kurt Russell playing a passable Elvis, however Russell's performance at times seems wooden. Where Austin Butler's Elvis is the most believable yet. Butler totally enveloped his character. Indeed he made you believe that he was Elvis for those two and a half hours on the screen. WOW.

He was the first, forging a path for others to follow in his wake. Elvis, Red West, Bill Black and Scotty Moore had to as Elvis said "learn it all" on the road of the 1950s No one had done anything musically or touring like Elvis did between 1954-1955, making his name through the southern states and with radio air play. I must say, I am angry sometimes with Elvis, for not getting himself together, physically. Why did they let people get chemicals to him after the Aloha Concert. After that global performance he should have started cleaning himself up. If he had he could still be alive today with Jerry Shilling, they could have both grown old together.

I just think Baz is brilliant. Drawing a parallel from the church revival tent scene directly to the first Hayride performance. Equating Rock and Roll with having a religious experience. Pure cinematic magic! And Austin... the Oscar is all yours honey.

I loved the movie. I was never especially an Elvis fan until a couple of years ago when I visited Tupelo and saw his boyhood home and the museum. I had actually forgotten how young Elvis was when he passed away. It was so poignant learning about his early days. Now I can say I am truly a fan. He was a uniquely talented person.

Wow this is da same for me. Was never a fan.... but then I went on a tour which covered Graceland and Sun Studio etc... and I realised how talented he was and how he loved Gospel music. I became a bit of a fan and then this movie ... WOW!!!🔥🔥🔥
