- A classical scene from arguably Elvis' best musical ever. Not many words needed here. She says: "My motor whistles...", and he says: "I don't blame it." That's about it. From then on sparks fly between the two who had an affair in real life and were reportedly about to get married. Great cast, great music, great locations. This is how an Elvis movie should have been done all the time. Unfortunately "Colonel" Parker found out that it could be done cheaper. Much cheaper...

Ann also had a very strong personality and was very independent, something I believe Elvis loved and admired. I doubt Elvis wouldn't have forced Ann to do anything she wouldn't want to do. In fact, if both married the Colonel's influence might have been tamed and Elvis might still have been alive.

I agree completely! It's not even about appearance. You can actually see how palpable the chemistry and understanding of each others character was between them. I wish Elvis had married Anne Margaret. I believe they both would've satisfied each other in all ways. Besides, Pricilla's mother was threatening Elvis to marry her daughter or else he'd be labeled as a child groomer for "breaking his promise" at the time. And anybody who has family who would blackmail you just so they guilt trip you into "following through" really isn't healthy to get involved with. Elvis should have married Ann-Margaret, they had stunning chemistry, would have had beautiful children, and probably he would have had way less dramas than with Priscilla.
Both I believe would have supported the other mentally, both had their own careers so neither would be so dependent on the other. Furthermore, the limelight wouldn't, in my opinion be always on Elvis, hence the pressure won't have been so heavy, more a shared limelight because both were as talented as the other.
The Colonel wouldn't have had an easy time with Ann controlling her due to the fact she had a strong personality and was very independent minded.

I don't care what anyone says, light comedy suited Elvis better than any other film genre, especially when he was co-starring with someone as gorgeous as Ann-Margaret. In these sorts of settings, he lights up the screen in a way he never did as a second-rate Marlon Brando or James Dean.

@@DocUno1 No, they really did have chemistry and dated after this movie for 1 year. Ann actually called Elvis her soul mate in her autobiography. It wasn't meant to be though, because Elvis made a promise to Precilla's father that he would marry her, and so he did. Priscilla knew about his affair with Ann and wrote about it also in her book.

If Elvis hadn't had made his promise to marry in Priscilla no doubt in my mind Elvis and Ann would be down the aisle. They were the perfect couple together.
Viva Las Vegas is probably the single most under rated film musical.
