Lando's starts are like when you type fast but the prompter on screen moves slower and is frustrating.
Nothin against the guy, but I hate listening to podcast where there’s no real insight being brought into play. Christian the whole time was just bringing up speculation and rumor talk that I’ve been hearing everyone say for that past month. I listen to podcasts to be informed on new info and learn something, not just to hear the same old information being recycled around through different voices.
Ant and Christian are an entertaining duo.

Right! There was 4 sec between Lando & Oscar, I think.....I was amazed they didn't double stack.
Lando has always struggled to get the car off the line it’s not just this season although I admit it’s far more obvious lately with him at the sharp end.
Personally, I think it’s pressure. The higher up on the grid he is, the worse his starts are. He’s openly told reporters and presenters to stop asking him about the championship because “he’s bored of it”, but no doubt it’s actually because he can’t deal with the pressure of the talk around it, he needs to focus. This is coming from someone who’s watched F1 for 14 years but admittedly isn’t knowledge about the cars or mechanical element of F1 🙈. I’m just an intuitive person who closely follows the drivers. I’d always predict when Lewis would do badly, whenever him and Nicole Sherzinger would break-up, his off track life would always affect his driving. So yeah, long way of saying I think Lando’s slow starts are nothing to do with car and everything to do with his nerves and pressure.
@@HayleyGardening22 I agree this is definitely a Lando problem not necessarily a McLaren problem. Zandvoort aside Oscar has proved that car is capable of launching/starting well so Lando still has work to do.

I don’t like it when people complain about Max winning for 18 months when some of us had to endure Mercedes winning for years and years and years and years and years.
The last couple of years have been amazing. I love watching Max. I LOOVVEE Lando. And it’s great to see Haas doing better. And I hope Alex gets some more points for Williams. Great year so far. And this podcast never fails to be entertaining.
I remember watching Seb win every single race for what felt like a lifetime, his little index finger sticking up after every race 😅😂 I was sick of it. So yeah, Max’s streak seems short in comparison. It’s definitely refreshing though, having different drivers on the podiums.
If Antonelli is that good, Mercedes is basically grooming an Italian driver bond to be at Ferrari

An Italian 🇮🇹 driver in the Mercedes Junior Team 🇬🇧 🇩🇪, and a Brit 🇬🇧 in the Ferrari Driver Academy; both driving for the same Italian F2 team (Prema Racing). An interesting turn of events.
There are many nationalities of drivers in Ferrari's Academy.
The brits take points from each other. The chance that 3 Brits fight each other is much higher that Max suffering from technical mishap.
We used to have a practice tree, we would practice reaction times in drag racing. The start is everything on a quarter mile. No second chances
Antonelli was always going to be the choice for Merc if Verstappen wasn’t going to move. They couldn’t replace a 7 time WC with anyone else as it was always going to be not as good as Hamilton. Toto wasn’t going to allow that to happen. With Antonelli, Toto is betting on the future and can’t be a direct comparison with Hamilton and it allows Russell to be the clear lead.
Could be a mistake if they're fighting for the WCC in '25 tho. Kimi was the right choice when they were struggling, like earlier I the season. We'll see its either a brilliant choice or a reeaallyy bad one lol

On multiple occasions, I've noticed that Matt Baker is not up to speed on the latest news. Somewhat surprising.
I don't rate him all that much. Nice enough guy but not the most knowledgeable. I think it may be cos he's not at the races like the others are with the contacts that they have.
Yeah it's strange, he's the host and yet he doesn't seem to be familiar with the sport at all, it's bizarre. No offense, but if you're the host of the sky f1 podcast, maybe watch the races and learn a bit more about everything.

A Max DNF would change things up massively, otherwise he has a solid buffer. I haven't done the maths but I think Max could technically cruise somewhere in the low points every race and still win
Max can P2 out the resr of the season, assuming Lando doesn't get the fastest lap. They will potentially sacrifice Perez depending on where he is on the track
@xxczerxx definitely not in the low points if Lando wins 5 races that's 125 points if max has low points in even 3 of those races it'll be Lando who's leading .. i would say Max needs 2 or 3 more wins from 9 races to win the title and no DNFs and no worse than 3rd finishes

I think Red bull were definitely struggling in Netherlands 🇳🇱 Lando winning by 22 seconds and his car is a rocket 🚀he needs to get better at his starts because that’s what gave max an advantage so he needs to be quicker on the start of the race but with Monza this week in Italy 🇮🇹 anything can happen

Maybe in Singapore last year, Red Bull's fiddle brake gizmo had a fault? I wasn't expecting a repeat performance this year, but now with no gizmo at all, their car is looking a bit more 'ordinary'.

I think the domainince has been transferred to lando 23 sec is a big gap on a small track like that
Max bolted the Bahrain floor on in FP3 and did not have any time to set it up. The gap will be much smaller I think.

@@JWF111 where did Perez finish with the supposed 0.2 faster floor? It seems Redbull have peaked early and others have caught up or they have shifted to 2026 already. Either way it is making this season more and more exciting. Bar DNF for Max and a Lando win in the next couple of races, I don't think Lando can catch Max but I think the WCC is going to go to Mclaren mainly due to Perez.

The temps are displayed on the steering wheel, so if that was the case I'm sure he would have corrected it by now. I think it's something more to do with their software not being as good as RB, Merc, Ferrari etc. Although Oscar seems to manage, so I don't know......Odd.

@Baker92849 the facts are, newey designed cars have often used asymmetric braking systems because its the best way to get round a race track. The RB pace has dropped off significantly since the clarification of the rule and before. One can only assume there was some discrepancy in the way the previous rules were being interpreted. Allowing red bull to gain a massive advantage. Now the advantage has been taken away the pace has disappeared.
I have not watched F1 in ages but I take it they changed a rule or are actually enforcing a rule that RB were bending slightly.

@U_C_G it's much more likely that 1 team lost performance than it is that 3 teams gained performance at the same time
@U_C_G also max reverted to the bahrain spec floor and still had issues with cars balance which is quite strange
Red Bull did a concept change over the winter on the basis that the concept for the rb18 and rb19 didn’t have a high enough performance ceiling to keep the chasing pack at bay. So I don’t necessarily think the rb20 (at the start of season) was faster than the rb19 in Abu Dhabi. On top of that, to my understanding, RBR has introduced 2 upgrade packages this year, in Japan and Hungary. The Hungary upgrades simply didn’t work (at least on that track.) And (especially McLaren) the other teams in the top 4 have (broadly speaking cause Ferrari’s brought back porpoising like it’s 2022) caught up to RBR. Not to mention the McLaren this year is a better all-rounder compared to the Red Bull

The mental gymnastics that Ant has to put into play when asked why Red Bull aren't fast anymore. "Well sometimes when you bring upgrades, you actually get downgrades and then need to revert, so Red Bull have been a victim of that and let me also mention some other teams to broaden the question even further." To anyone who's paying attention, it's absolutely clear that Red Bull are slower now then they were at the start of the season. To deny that is to take us all for fools. I appreciate that calling someone out for cheating when you have no solid proof isn't something that a broadcaster wants to do, but come on!!
The FIA should have been clear which teams were using this system and whether or not it was legal at the time. They seem to be covering for Red Bull and then we all need a bout of collective amnesia to ignore the reality. I don't see that the FIA are an honest broker, if they were then the 2021 title would have gone to Lewis and RB would have been slapped with a bigger fine for the cost cap infringement. This all feels very much PR related and they don't want to bring the sport into disrepute, so we'll handle it quietly instead and gift Max another championship.
The FIA was clear. No teams.
RB isn’t slower. They just haven’t gotten much faster. That’s 3 years of CFD restrictions at work.
Maybe ask why McLaren is the ONLY team to have become much faster overnight. What are THEY doing?

Also, back in 2019 when Ferrari suddenly found a turn of speed from Spa and started outrunning Mercedes everyone lost their minds and cried foul ( and yes they did commit a clever foul but that's not the point here). Now that McLaren has catapulted themselves from the absolute back of the grid to head and shoulders over the rest, not one pundit or expert has raised not even one eyebrow in concern.....it's just plaudits and good jobs all around.
And im not suggesting for one second that Maclaren have done anything untoward, but where's the same energy from 2019 at this unheard of turnaround?
I don't like RedBull, but the FIA publicly said that no teams were using the hydraulic brake T, most likely someone asked about it and the FIA just added the clarity to the rule.
@suitandtie2251 McLaren brought an entirely new car in Miami, they have been great since then, they just had to figure out how to win.
@joshn1678 Per my original comment, I have no faith in what the FIA said, bearing in mind RB are so much slower now. There are 2 types of evidence tell me and show me, the latter is far more reliable. From what we've seen, it's absolutely clear that something is off with that team.
Yes Mclaren are faster, and I'm sure that the other teams out there are scrutinising what they're doing. Who knows maybe some rule infringement will be found there as well. But for the time being, like RB in 2022 & 2023 we take it on faith that they're within the rules.

I don't understand why this was a "remarkable performance" from Norris. The guy with the fastest car won. Call me when the guy with the third fastest or seventh fastest car wins and we can discuss remarkable. Fisichella winning in Brazil 2003 was remarkable. Herbert winning in the Stewart was remarkable. Panis winning Monaco was remarkable. Many of Schumacher's wins in 94 / 95 were remarkable. Norris winning in the fastest car from pole is what is expected of him as a minimum.

you may recognized, when RBR was in a different league, the other teams weren't driving all at the same speed behind them, that's why it was clear to see before '24, that the tack suited MCL, like others did, and others didn't. Like with every team. a car fits to one specific course more or less than to others, at least more often than not, since perfect allrounders are the exception.
and THIS YEAR we saw a further rise of perfomance with this team, you may have noticed. it's the quickest car now, and coming to a track that suited them already before meant, we all expected them to win - just like Ant said, (you may have heard).. but not by THAT margin, (again, just as Ant said), and again, as nobody thought, they would. trying to stay friendly here, i must admit

Only a close minded, naive person would accuse people of being “haters” when they simply prefer other drivers. Max doesn’t have fan-appeal, he’s grumpy, stroppy, immature, rude, plays dirty and shows no emotion when he wins. Horner has been told by the FIA that Verstappen can win the championship as in fact he already has done, but he can’t win every race. They’re doing this because F1 is becoming extremely boring as it’s never about who’s going to win, but about who’s gonna finish second. FIA and the teams know that they have to do something very quickly or F1 is going to die a quick death!
