Speaking in both English and Welsh, the family demonstrates their commands and whistles to guide the dogs in herding the fields. By sharing their techniques with the youngest generation, they hope to continue their pastoral way of life for centuries to come.

Generations of Welsh farmers have kept up this tradition of working closely with sheepdogs. Which English or Welsh command was your favorite?
National Geographic I don't know Welsh but I like the one at 1:21 very interesting!
I liked the English whistle that went ‘ssssss sssssssss’
Wales is a beautiful place full of such wonderful people
John Merces thx
John Merces Indeed their elven language and traditions are unique
Yes, we too are in awe of this beautiful Welsh tradition of working with sheepdogs, John.
Thank you
Big respect for the family that is teaching their youngsters how to carry on the business and tradition. Beautiful children, BTW!
So Beautiful, brings tears to my eyes.
Mature language? If it is used in the correct context, why is the warning needed?
LazyTV because, at least here in America, a lot of people are morons and get triggered by anything and everything
LazyTV pm Lee request for permamant residency in Singapore application filed in August reply not yet received
Lord shiva songs
President putin heard
President putin how will u celebrate valentine day
Sad that unfortunately you have to put a disclaimer because the guy calls the female dog by the correct name, and some people will get upset about it.
It would've more awesome If they show us a Sheepdog that actually follows their instruction, instead of zooming up their faces repeatedly.
Philip Brush ikr
Yeah that's true... Instead they should show how the dogs react to the calls
I'm reasonably sure this is a snippet from a longer doc that actually showed the dogs herding sheep in a rugged, nearly vertical landscape and responding to whistle commands. I came here looking for the video to show my sister, who recently adopted a border collie.
Haha felt like I was being yelled at. "LIE DOWN!!"
After 3 and a half minutes of calling for the dog...
Sheepdog 1:43: Whaaaaaat!
Love this film
I've just been given a welsh collie he's just turned 1 never had a sheep dog b4 but boy do I love him we've walked over 150 miles in month so loyal loving playfull hates being alone for long periods so I'm never far from him
Beautiful place to live
Awesome! WOuld love to see more vids like this one.
Such a beautiful business ❤️
Now, thats a happy dog.
This reminded me a bit of the Spanish speaking people who also "speak" an entire language built on whistles.

Weird that a people that is part of the UK speak English with stronger accents than people living 1000s of miles away from England.
Fitzgerald Mistral you'd be surprised at some of the accents in the UK
They probably speak Welsh as their first language. :)
That is awesome I wish my was a sheep dog meep meep 🐕
fix the bloody awful volume on the outro please everytime I watch something on this channel my eardrums almost get burst.
The woman sounds so harsh when she commands
wow. like a movie
Cool.
Could we get a list of the commands in Welsh (spelled out?) please? Diolch.
they should change the title. It was a nice video but nowhere did it ever teach you "How to whistle for a sheepdog" as the title states. Shame on Nat Geo for misleading viewers

hi netzio 😊😊
So... he had some good Ducks ? ;D
What type of dogs are those
border collie
Great dogs, but very energetic as it is a working breed. (Top 10 intelligent dogs too)
yeah they are wonderfull but you have to be able to provide them many miles of running every day.
A lot of border collies are bred to herd.
Sheep dogs
Why are you putting the camera so close to their faces????
Haha went to school with these people
This is more about the nutters who keep sheep.
Da iawn teulu dda
"how to" might be a bit of a stretch on this one.
Thought the Welsh just wolf whistled directly at the sheep 😂
Zero Black ye some of us lol
I want to see 100% proof that these dogs obey these whistle signals. Because I have a strong suspicion it is all baloney. Their dogs do it anyway and they whistle to make it look like they're in control.
“Sorry, but I don’t speak freaky deaky Dutch..”
Pfft, he needs his fingers to do a loud whistle! I can pop you eardrum with my lips alone.
Good for you?

Why the mature language warning you ask? Because Millennials 🤣
Hazy J Ah yes, the mythical "blame it millennials" approach I've only heard in legends. Gather 'round and look, kids, before it runs away.
