Unlike a lot of these films where new technology makes them appear outdated, the narrator is still right in saying that this can't be improved.
I miss the sort of world that made this show.
Used to love it back in the day. Cost about 20p to make and fascinating to watch.
Not flashy, no egos, just the story of skills on display.

😺We used to watch this series, and when the programme was on our cat would come and sit in front of the telly staring at the screen. He seemed fascinated by the combination of chirpy whistling and the sight of the distant sheep running about like a flock of white mice...

This is delightful and I love it's simplicity. Just man and animal working so closely together and understanding each other.
Beautiful photography... but, with that landscape, you can't go wrong!
I've seen other videos where the sheep themselves recognise the shepherd's voice, and only respond to the shepherd's voice.
Amazing abilities of both shepherd and dog to communicate so well, too.
I've not thought of this for many years, but competitions involving dogs rounding up sheep were once popular viewing on television.
11/10 for capturing the love of an owner and a working animal
They are symbiotic....one could exist without the other , but not as well and productively
So great to see man and dog work together in harmony, without the dogs suffering in any way.

I was 17yrs old when this was first shown on TV and I can remember how fascinating we found the relationship between the working collie and the shepherd.

I can still remember some of the words the shepherds used to shout at the dogs to make them do their bidding:
"To me... to you! To me... to you!" they used to shout.

Seeing sheep dogs waiting their turn at herding demonstration is interesting. Those that are not working whine and whimper like they just had their toys taken off them. Many Search Dogs come sheep dog families.
Attorney for doggos all over. They say they are tired of humans using their kind. Humans are too lazy to take care of their own sheep and other jobs they have for Doggos. Doggos have been working for "table scrap" far too long. They demand friday-thursday off and steak on days that they are off from work. A few belly rubs. A good ole squirrel chase and a good toy is all they ask for also. If these demands are not met. Then the fire hydrants of the world will have to find someone else to do the peeing. Ruff Ruff
Brilliant. A good pair of boots, a stick and a whistle is all the equipment needed. And lots of training.
Highly sustainable, very low carbon type of activity, unfortunately having disappeared in the 21st century.

I wonder what was used to record the intro. Considering it is 1976, it is probably Umatic? Moss green from Mr. Drabble's tie spills onto the shirt. I think chrominance could be shifted a couple of pixels to the left before uploading to improve color separation.

And use silly devices costing thousands, called smartie fones, to watch funny cat videos. We've been exploited! 😿
