Back from my quick break! Glad today's video could be about the covers, they're genuinely some of the main reasons that got me into WoF :D Question of the day: What popular snack have you never tried before? My answer: Takis and Flamin' Hot Cheetos
Fun fact: When Tsunami was trying to convince Coral to let her guard the Hatchery to catch the killer in exchange of Webs and Riptide freedom, she says "Even if i save your last heir?" So probably that's why the title The Last Heir was an option
The skywing arena would've been really cool in the background of first book, and could've given reference for what it looked like in the graphic novels! Such a cool opportunity missed. And I always thought that darkstalker in the graphic novels was through what moon thought he looked like, and maybe could've not known different, and that's why there was dull horns. Same goes for his eye color, we know their not red, but this was in moons mind, so it could be anything.
A few things I noticed; 1. Sundew is missing the woven bags that are on her body and 2. Some of the dragon tribes are shown to have elbow webbing on their wings, but some of the dragons on the covers are missing this entirely
I LOVE the Luna and Swordtail limited edition poster. I'm actually really jealous cuz it looks amazing, and is the only official art of Swordtail we have.
Fun fact: Not all the trees are gone in Pantala! In one part, it says, “wiped out *most* of the trees.” Also, if you look at the map, there are actually a lot of trees to the left and bottom of Beetle Lake! And, ofc, the Poison Jungle!
I think Starflight’s eyes were brown due to the reflective nature of most pupils/irises (due to him being surrounded by glowing orange, red light and smoke, it reflected a brown or orangeish colour)
I have a few more details- -In the poison jungle book, as well as a dragon in a Venus dragon trap, there is also one in a sundew near the left -In dragonslayer, on the wall of spiked heads, there are a few glory-colored rainwing heads on spikes -In Darkstalker, his eyes are portrayed as a light grey when they are a dark black-ish color. (I may have got some things wrong btw)
I had no idea about the Lost Heir title changes, And I hadn't seen the pre-final covers for most! I'm always as excited for the covers as I am for the books I think my favorites are The Hive Queen and The Dangerous Gift
I genuinely believe that starflight's eyes, starflight's tongue, and winter's ear colouring is just due to reflection, from the volcano and the sun ray reflecting from the ice respectively. Also most of the pre-final versions of the covers are just better ;-;
This may just be a physical choice to prevent distraction from the dragons, but none of them are shown to have many (if at all) necklaces. Anemone should've had her 'soul-protecting' necklace, Snowfall should've had the seven weapons she hid on her armour, and Sandstorm is missing his armour entirely. Also, you forgot to mention on the cover of Dragonslayer, you can see Ivy holding a dreamvisiter, the Weirdling tower in the background and many decapitated dragon heads, some of which resemble a HiveWing's or even Glory's! For such a controversial book, Dragonslayer has a really good cover! Edit: Just to clarify, I was referring to Dragonslayer as a "bad book" because a majority of WoF fans (including me) hated the book. It is totally valid if you enjoyed Dragonslayer, I'm glad if you did, but personally, I disliked the book
Fun fact: On the first graphic novel aka The dragonet prophecy the graphic novel, one mistake is Clay's eyes are yellow but his real eye color is brown.
I’d like to point out another thing that no one else seems to ever mention, on the lost continent’s cover the hives in the back just look WAY too small, like sure they look big enough to hold a few dragons, but they’re nowhere NEAR big enough to have full on neighbourhoods and mansions inside them, just by looking at the hives compared to the dragons beside/in them you can easily tell they’re way too small then they are depicted in the books.
Thanks for explaining the covers. I love the series but have never read the books simply listened to them since I am visually impared so hearing what the covers show and don’t show was pretty fun.
Did you know that the back cover of the dark secret is the front cover of the winglet quartet? I noticed that when I was watching one of your videos with the dark secret as your background!
On the Poison Jungle cover, there is actually another LeafWing that was caught by a carnivorous plant. But from the looks of it, they are not alive…. Hint, look at all the sundews. RIP nameless LeafWing
I didn't spot half of the details until you mentioned them in the video. I tried looking for them before you said what was wrong but didn't notice. My favorite cover has to be the moon rising cover! Cant wait to see more :) Welcome back from your break btw!
As an artist I find it so funny to see little tiny mistakes that even professional artists make in their drawings. You don't even see those mistakes until you look back at the art or if someone points them out, and once you see them you feel so dumb cause you didn't see it and it was GLARING into your face 💀. Great vid as always! My fav cover is also the Escaping Peril cover.
I counted every dragon on each of the covers here’s the numbers: Dragonet prophecy has 17 Lost heir has 5 Hidden kingdom has 19 Dark secret has 26 Brightest night has 12 Moon rising has 4 Winter turning has 6 Escaping Peril has 7 Talons of power has 7 Darkness of dragons has only 1 The lost continent has 52 Hive queen has 16 Poison jungle with 12 Dangerous gift has 46 flames of hope has only 2 Darkstalker legends has 1 And lastly dragon slayer has 22 counting heads and no humans.
Very interesting! I've never seen or heard of any of the pre-final covers, seeing the older covers is super interesting! One thing I want to say, though, is I don't think NightWings have ever been described to have a "necklace" of scales around their neck. I checked the descriptions in the NightWing's guide at the start of the Arc 1 books, and couldn't find anything!
This is super neat! I also always look forward to your polls 😁 in terms of 3:04 that nightwings have black tongues, as an artist I believe it is black and that it's just the lighting of the lava reflecting on Starflight's tongue 😊 it could have been darker since part is hidden inside his mouth but otherwise if u compare his scales below that appear red, it's the same red as the tongue's light. Also in overlay mode (in digital art), colors appear vivid on black so maybe that is why it looks red if the red light is reflecting on his black tongue. (Not hating, again super neat 😊❤) Edit: and we can also see the tip of his forked tongue appears black which makes me believe even further it is lighting :)
There's one more mistake on Qiblis cover. In moon rising Qibli's earing was ripped out by icicle. In the cover of his book, the earing was there. Super cool video! All of the covers are so cool!
one thing you didn't mention is that on Sunny's cover some of her scale patterns align much more with nightwings, which i find a super cool nod to her father!!
On the hidden kingdom you missed three mistakes. One is that glory is missing the extra wing piece in the corner of where the wing starts to go up (idk how else to explain it). The second is that her eyes were described as blue in the books, but they show as green. Lastly, on her shoulders it’s supposed to fade yellow to that greenish colour. Hope people will see this!
I've never really noticed the part about the Gift of Vision. I just assumed it was too small for the printers to put any detail into 😅. But I agree that the Moon Rising cover is absolutely amazing. It also gives a sense of scale to Jade Mountain, because you have to remember that only some of the largest caves on Earth (at least the size of stadiums) can contain their own forest ecosystems
actually an interesting thing about the dragon slayer cover is on the walls of the palace you can see tiny little heads on the spikes and even weirder is that some are spikes from tribes that would never be there like one of them looks identical to Glorys head and there were some Skywing ones too
10:21 idk if you noticed the but the other leafwings in the background don’t have tail leafs! Also I just noticed- a leafwing is stuck in a real sundew.
If you look closely at the poison jungle cover, sort of near and on the left side of the dragon in the Venus dragon trap, you can see another dragon that is presumably dead in another plant
10:08 also there is a dragon trapped by sundew, i think that's what its called. Its on the left side of the cover, the plant is bigger than the dragon and all you see is the tip of the tail and wing and a bit of its head
if you look closely you actually realise darkstalkers horns do "twist" just not in the way you expect. they do more of a spiral with the inner-facing side slowly being turned to face back just like a rams excluding the coiling shape that we call twisting. (if you look at the base of the horn it bends "into" the horn and has horzontal lines like belly scales and the further up you go the more outward they face, indicating a twist in the horn) meaning the horns are under more of torsion rather than being wavy like or coiled like a spring
Yeah, and qibli is missing his earring in the winter turning graphic novel. But honestly, even though there’s mistakes, the covers are still masterpieces.
Recently the Winter Turning Graphic Novel Spine has two "i"' in Turning spelt "Winter Turniing" not sure if they fixed it yet but if you bought it on release it should be there.
There’s a minor mistake here, the royal patterns are found in all royal sea wings, not just the females. Shark is noted to have them because he’s related to Coral, and turtle is accurately portrayed with them on the cover.
I also noticed on starflights book one of the nightwings in the background is mossing their face Its corrected in the cover of the four mini stories (i dont remember what theyre called haha) but its really funny
With Starflight's tongue in his cover, i always thought it was the lighting of the lava, it just made sense too me Also with Dragonslayers cover, i'm not sure if this counts as an error, but when i looked closely at the cover, i sworn i saw a silkwing head on the strongholds wall Needless to say i think this is a good analysis video, i just wanted too share my thoughts
Okay, I know i'm a month late to this video, but I just noticed that the Dreamvisitor that Ivy (I haven't read Dragonslayer yet, but I think its Ivy) is holding is really small compared to Sandstorm. How could Darkstalker choose to enchant something so small? And, in The Dark Secret graphic novel, the Dreamvisitor is big enough for Starflight, a dragon, to hold. So, why is it big enough for Starflight and Darkstalker, but also small enough for a scavenger? this is a long comment- I just had to say something about this though. Idk if someone already pointed this out
one thing that I noticed is in the lost heir there is a character named Lagoon and in darstalker legends the seawing queen before pearl is queen Lagoon, so considering that Tui has never repeated a name before, I would say it is a mistake
Hope for future videos: Sundew Hivemind Part 2 (Yes I am still holding out hope that you will do this) Submit your ocs (I have been wanting this for FOREVER) Edit: Oh hey thanks for noticing this!
I got to stop the video the shape of leaf wings would be distorted and I do see some butterfly like ones. Also the pre design of the first book the arena would be Disa portioned.
I don't mind that Blue has his wings on the cover of Book 11 That whole point of having your protagonist on the cover is to show the readers what they look like &, while he doesn't have his wings in THIS book, he does in every other book he's in So it makes sense to me
Well e.g you can not have Quibli without has scar mostly at least the graphic novel has more very good art & storyline layout after all one misstakes dose not mess up books in the bigger picture
Back from my quick break! Glad today's video could be about the covers, they're genuinely some of the main reasons that got me into WoF :D
Question of the day: What popular snack have you never tried before?
My answer: Takis and Flamin' Hot Cheetos
Lays, takis, mountain lightning (tho that's not popular)
blue takis. i already tried regualr takis and decided they were too much:'D
golden Oreos
I’ve never tried takis lol
@@Sawgrass-TML would not recommend them
Fun fact: When Tsunami was trying to convince Coral to let her guard the Hatchery to catch the killer in exchange of Webs and Riptide freedom, she says "Even if i save your last heir?"
So probably that's why the title The Last Heir was an option
Ohhh, you're right!! :O
Maybe in an early draft Anemone was supposed to die, leaving Tsunami as ‘the last heir’
The art is so beautiful. Even though there are quite a few mistakes, the artist, Joy Ang, did an amazing job!
Agreed
This is one of the main reasons why I love WoF
The attention to details, the lively-ness in the art
So real 🔥
The skywing arena would've been really cool in the background of first book, and could've given reference for what it looked like in the graphic novels! Such a cool opportunity missed. I have a few more details-
-In the poison jungle book, as well as a dragon in a Venus dragon trap, there is also one in a sundew near the left

The Dangerous Gift's cover is probably one of my favorites!

Mistake on WoF Legends 2: RainWing head on spike;RainWings did not even participate in the war.
The sundew also caught a leafwing
12:38 Sandstorm?! I thought that was Oasis all this time 🤣 Awesome video!
Tui confirmed it was Sandstorm, but if it was Oasis that'd honestly be sick
Btw Cricket on the Barnes and Nobles cover has a tail stinger

In the dangerous gift cover there is only 2 moons instead of three witch is said meny times over and over again in the books
on the cover of winter turning the icewing palace is by the ocean but on the dangerous gift cover it is on a cliff
something that always bothered me is the absence of tsunami’s legs on the lost heir cover.

where is my pouch with my animus objects on book 9 cover? 🤨
Here’s another mistake on the poison jungle-the flytraps are described as pink, but are purple
This isnt a mistake, but the cover of the winglets is an extension of starflights cover
