@@tingleblade4274 I mean, the first Rex Sclavorum was a Frankish merchant. He was elected by the Slavic people as their ruler and defended his lands against both Avars and the Frankish kingdom. At least if Fredegarius is to be believed. So I suppose nothing is impossible, haha
Weren't some of the Rurik family with him when he went down there and took over? Thought I read that before, but probably not many details on what happened other than legends passed down by word of mouth.
crtbullock72 history is pretty hazy on his origins. Only source says he is son of Duke Kyi, in honor of whom Kyiv was named, but that’s it pretty much. He and Askold (which is absent here) were Rurik’s druzhinniks (lords), but some even say that Askold and Dyre was one man. They got killed by that Helgi “the Seer” which got imprisoned here :)
@@iJimbable Ck2 used the One man theory having Dyre with Askold dynasty name. Here i think they made him Oskyldir which would be another spelling for Askold i believe.
My wise and powerful Jarl the native culture and religion is weak, we need to show the natives the power of us. If we get help from the homeland of Scandinavia we should be able to hold a strong grip against the natives as the learn our ways, we hold one of their holy sites even, that will server well to show them their religion is weak in our might. Conversion and conquest is the route my Lord but perhaps having a grip of some of Scandinavia lands could help set up stronger unity as well. tbh the natives overthrown viking before, but right after that they fell into anarchy and chaos. that's the very reason why they INVITED Ryurik back xD

You have a unique inheritence system, available due to historical accuracy. Could you show it off in a future video? it may be worth taking as well over partition, keep your land together, unified. Love the RPG element and eagerly await more.
Ck3 is looking like a genuine contender. Paradox have really addressed the shortcomings of 1&2. The vassal system and realms is so much better and the way the game forces you to play within the scope of your character.. or accept the consequences is brilliant. A very welcome improvement!
For future reference: Gold is worth considerably less as a tribal nation, so the first building you should have is the longhouse, because that will increase prestige gain by 0.2, which is all important in the tribal world
Dear Jarl I have heard of a wonderous place called Hindustan, where there are great war beasts called 'El-E-Fants', I think we should grab a small patch of territory in this place so that we may learn how to raise such beasts to fight for us! As a Side note, perhaps take some captives while there, Men whom we can recruit and women who can be brought in as wives and concubines for you're Commanders and Vassals. Additional Side Note, I noticed there is a woman of White Hair and Red Eyes, she seems like an ideal wife or concubine for you're son. Crimson Eyes in the Royal Bloodline could produce truly magnificent Warriors.
I too am playing a campaign as Jarl Rurik. It's been a fun and exciting campaign with lots of raiding and conquering. Probably the best part was when my wife suggested that we name our first son Rurik after me. Then when we had our second son, she suggested I name him after myself again! It kinda started a tradition that all of my sons are Rurik. So now I have five sons all name Rurik Rurikson of House Rurik!

I think that the nails god of the Greeks in Miklagard looks promising since every time we have tried to take the city we have failed. The walls looks like they have been built by a god! I first was hostile to it but if we need to unite our land in something it should be our faith. The Greeks can hold an empire of Dussins of different cultures! I think the Slavs would be easily converted. It could both unite the Slavs and Us and strengthen our ties to Miklagard. We do not need to take away all of our gods but we could just add the nailed god to our pantheon. May you rule long and strong my jarl! The Rus will rise!
Small thing.... you keep capturing heirs and just ending the war. Is a good idea to check your prisons before ending wars. Is quite a bit of extra gold to ransom them off, is almost always worth the extra time (if any! plenty of wars are won just by holding the land + wars).

Man I’m new to CK3 and I tried playing Rurik 3 different times; this last time I carved out the Russian Empire just before Rurik died at 62, but the 5 sons I had (about 6 daughters) murdered my succession harder than Julius Caesar in the Senate

you could intentionally go down some paths that give you bonuses for having stress levels and intentionally give yourself stress, the mental breaks (at least the first one) isnt all that bad.
You did way better as Rurik then I am doing as Dyre. It took like 5 restarts before I could form the kingdom of ruthenia. I choose to keep Norse culture and convert to Slavic keeping the tech advantage in Norse culture and using slavic for a more stable realm. Those feast bonuses really help a new king out. With the Kazars and Magyars next door though and no martial tree for your character every war you fight must be much more closely considered and even conquering a one province count can be a challenge.
I have been having trouble getting good at this game. I settled on playing this Novoradian too because of it and have had no trouble. I think you are twice as good at this game as I am. I converted to the elkin religion because I think it suits my play style the most

I like how in CK3, some actions that are against the character's nature give them stress.

Rurikovich is an equivalent to Ruriksson actually. It is a patronymic.

That actually means "Rurik Son of Rurik Son of Rurik" if you translate the last names (from old norse and russian, respectively)

peacemaker is OP if you can get it, it lets you only needing 90% war score, and peacemaker gives a base 10 when you enforce demands
