    Had mine 15 months and 18,000 miles. Still great fun to drive, no reliability issues, rear tyres have 4mm tread still, no service for 6k miles yet (apart from first 1k service) according to service indicator. Same spec but with dct.

      @@blkpearl4754 ran the car to 30 months and sold a bit early given the way market has gone. Did 35,000 miles and loved the car, no issues at all with it. Rears lasted to 26k miles, never changed the fronts. MPG 30ish and overall a great car, lots of fun and always lively if you pressed on. There is that feeling that it’s trying to kill you which is an edge I enjoy. Bought a 4.0 GTS Cayman in October and completely different. Much more settled in fast corners and far better balance. Objectively the Cayman is the superior car but must say I enjoyed the M2 as much, just in a different way. For me Porsche ownership experience is inferior to the BMW one, Porsche just regard you as a money tree.

    Glenn, I really enjoyed your review. I have an exact twin to your M2 and have accumulated 16K miles. Bought it on European Delivery in May 2016, so after the break-in service, we had track days at the Nürburgring, Zandvoort, and Spa.
    After 2 years of ownership, you should have discovered what I did in the first week: you can rev match yourself with heel-and-toe in ANY mode! There's a very slight delay built into the auto rev matching. Blip the throttle quickly and you'll beat the delay, so you can heel-and-toe any time. I discovered this while blipping by instinct on hairpins in the Alps, and it worked just like my earlier M cars. I'm sure BMW built this in on purpose. No switch needed like the Z06; rev matching is there when you want it and you can override when you want to, simply based on your throttle behavior.
    Try it; just forget about the auto rev matching and it goes away. And so will one of your complaints.

    • @GlennsCarCollection
      @GlennsCarCollection  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that's right. I forgot all about that. I mentioned that in an early M2 video back in 2016, that I was in the habit of rev matching and I was able to do it before the computer. I guess I will go back to that. Thanks for watching an subscribing Daniel.

    Hi Glen, great video. Thank you for posting it. Agree with you on all you said. E46 rocked. M2 manual, rear wheel drive=ultimate driving glory. BMW makes a lot of nice cars. I like that there aren’t a lot of a la cart options. Think the interior quality of current BMW models has some catching up to do compared to Audi and MB. I currently have 340 xi with M-pkg. Lease is up soon. Most likely going towards M2. I want the 6-speed manual...it’s an endangered species. It may or may not be ‘collectible’’ but for me the manual BMW that size is collectible to me. Looking at Golf R for my daily, year round driver...also in 6-spd manual. Peace! Carl

    Hi Glenn, great review!
    I ordered mine in late February and expecting delivery in a couple of weeks. I live in Luxembourg and one think I can tell you about the european market is that most countries have specific Option lists for the same MY. So I got the MY18 LCI LBB with MT. Options are adaptive LEDs, tinted windows, H&K sound system, heated steering wheel, light package and wifi/wireless charging. I was aware of the Competition but from what Ive seen so far I would still have gotten the standard model especially for what I believe they will charge for all the extras. The competition might be the better collection car though.. what do you think?

    The last stats I saw were just over 50% took MT in North America. As far as will people care about the DCT in 20 or 30 years? Well BMW isn't going to make them anymore after 2020 so in 20 or 30 years they are going to be long gone unless porsche keeps making them. People hated the SMG, but actually like the DCT, so maybe people will care... think about it. 20+ years from now when every car is electric people might getting the itch drive an ICE car and they might want the "best of" version of an ICE car and that might mean DCT. Of course the MT is still going to be desirable for collectors then as well, more so than the DCT, but I don't think the DCT will be SMG status, because really I never heard of anyone liking the SMG transmission, and DCT actually has its fans.

    • @GlennsCarCollection
      @GlennsCarCollection  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great comment. At one point, could have been a while ago, DCT slightly edged out the 6 speed manual in production. I guess it changed now. It will be fun to see how DCT does 20 years in the future. Hopefully it does well.

    Great review. Sigh...I am a manual guy and the landscape is pretty stark for me. I have a 997.2 GTS for weekends and want a daily driver I can enjoy. I have looked at the VW R and even the GLI, but want a six and something a little more special. I like having a trunk for clubs so the R loses there. The GLI is to down scale. Hell, I have even looked at the Mustang GT350, but just can’t go there on the package. Audi S5 is unobtainium in a low mileage example with a manual. I look forward to getting a low miles example (probably a Competition) in a couple years when I am retired and heading to the course instead of to work in my company vehicle...Cheers.

      the exhaust sound outside the car is real but new cars are so insulated, that you can't hear anything inside the car. New cars like the M2 and other sports cars, have the real sounds recorded and played back through the cars stereo speakers so inside you hear what it sounds like outside. The sound is enhanced. It is the real sound of your car but recorded and played back

    Does your M2 vibrate a bit under hard acceleration at all? I have a brand new M2 just broken in, feels a little rough above 4krpm with WOT. Not all the time. Could be EPS being weird.

      Mine does not. Maybe there is a rock caught underneath or maybe more likely, a wheel is slightly bent. Any pothole can slightly bend a wheel.

      @@constantinostheologitis1387 Ontarian here, cannot recommend 2 sets of wheels / tires any further for North-East coast. Not exactly sure how much snow you get, but the snow tires make more a difference than the drivetrain!
      Simcoe Region, in my NB Miata I dailied for 2 years, never once got stuck or had an issue. I'm talking through 1" of ice, or 4-8" of snow.. I've passed M3's and M2's stuck & pulled over on sideroads now a few times during blizzards... Your summer set will get another year or two of use this way ;). I've since bought a 650i Gran Coupe and had a blast with the xDrive, but I still rock winter rubber in the winter and summer rubber in the summer.

    My wife and I took one of these out for a test drive yesterday (along with a M4) The M2 blew me away, it was so responsive and nimble. My wife before going to the BMW dealer did not want to look at the M2 as she thought it looked way to small, but once we got there she changed her mind. The M2 is much larger inside than one would think it is. I think my wife and I spent close to 2 hours test driving the M2 on every kind of road you could think of and i took it up well into triple digits with the salesman egging me on to "beet on it harder". Once we finished driving the M2 we took the M4 out and it seemed really big and not as impressive as the M2. The M4 was still quite nice, but it just didn't seem to zip into action when you got on it as much as the M2 did. I think if i had a child that i would have no choice but to pick the M4 as the M2 really has limited space when you position your seat back if your 6 foot or larger as both my wife and I are. I just need to decide to buy now or wait till later this summer for the 2019's

    • @GlennsCarCollection
      @GlennsCarCollection  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great comment. I drove the M4 went it was new, very fast but lacked the soul that the M2 has for reasons you mentioned above. I think the salesman must have been sorely disappointed after a two hour test drive of the M2 and you didn't buy the car. Hope you get one soon. thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel

    What an inane comment. I picked up my 2018 M2 with the DCT last week. Until now, I always have driven a stick thus far. While manual transmissions are more 'involving', the DCT is the future and I choose to embrace it. They are both lighter and faster, albeit more expensive... Frankly, clicky paddles give you better control and responsiveness which why performance cars are embracing it. Let me guess, you drive a classic Mustang GT and own a .44 magnum revolver just because they are cool? They most certainly are cool but welcome to 'TODAY'.

    • @SHADOWCOMPANY6
      @SHADOWCOMPANY6 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idgaf about the future if it means I can't row my own gears. Everyone already knows and accepts that the DCT'S are faster than shifting on your own. And if I want a smooth daily driver, I'll make sure to buy one of those. Hell, just buy a Tesla... THAT'S the real future, or as you called it "Today" lol But for a car like this? You can keep your .2 seconds faster 0-60 time, and I'll stay having a bigger smile on my face 😁
