    OMG! Tarrifs on Chinese, Mexican, and Canadian goods in the USA will make those good CHEAPER in every other country!!! The Philippines is not on Trumps tarriffs list! If anything, Trump's commitment to thwart Chinese aggression and dominance in the region will only be great for the Philippines, ESPECIALLY for those of us USA folks retired here. PLEASE MIKE, stop talking about sht you obviously know nothing about and uneccesarilly frightening people. Again, I am a subscriber to your channel, but you are WAY off on geopolitics! It’s only bec of ex Mayor Alice Guo of Tarlac who actually is born in China and came to Philippines on fake identity and birth certificate pretending she was born in Philippines. She was sent to occupy or built Communist China Empire in Philippines. China is very sneaky and untrustworthy. They have occupied smaller islands in Philippines and built military bases there. Very careful as one day China will invade Philippines by force. First China has more Navy ships than US and much bigger military force now compared to 30 yrs ago. Second, China needed Philippines to get Taiwan back and/or China is in revenge and colonizing all other countries through bribing local politicians. And China had bribed the former President of Phil. There is a big difference between illegal immigrants coming into the country in fact being invited given free healthcare, food, housing, legal services and money and in many states the ability to vote at a minimum of 150billion dollars all paid for by the taxpayer and what the Philippines does. Also the US government unlike other countries spent over 175 billion in a war in Ukraine all funded by US tax payer. In his last term President Trump did not cut SS benefits.

    • @jasonjames4254
      @jasonjames4254 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Don't fall for all the MAGA misinformation being spread on conservative media outlets like FoxNews. Do your own research from objective sources. Aside from limited funding provided locally by some sanctuary cities and state governments, illegal immigrants do NOT qualify for and are NOT receiving federal benefits like Social Security, SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, etc. 99.9% of all illegals in the U.S. work and pay payroll taxes. And except for a handful of cases that were caught by audits and recounts, there's NEVER been any REAL evidence that undocumented immigrants are voting. That's all MAGA BS! Trump won the election with the help of a significant increase in HISPANIC Republican voters! It is good that Trump is enforcing existing immigration law, as long as he is not deporting people without due process. But he's already stated that he intends to deny some immigrants access to an immigration judge and just deport them immediately without due process. He's already illegally detained some Native Americans in his sweeps simply because they look Hispanic. And the issue of birthright citizenship WILL end up in the Supreme Court. True, Trump didn't cut Social Security in his first term but he also did NOTHING to attempt to fix it either. Since the Trust Fund will be insolvent by 2032 or so, doing nothing amounts to a future cut. I agree, Trump is unlikely to cut Social Security benefits because he has NO constitutional authority to do so, even if he thinks he does. Only congress can enact changes to Social Security. The President only has veto power. He can't legally make changes to existing SS benefits and Medicare by executive order, BUT he'll probably try it anyways.

I asked him directly about the possibility of cutting social security amounts for recipients, not living in the United States. His response .... "That would be political suicide" and the Republicans have nothing like that on their radar. 2) the large number of filipinos who have worked their whole lives in the united states and are US citizens but want to return to their home country after a lifetime of fortitude.
    3) why in the world would they want plane loads of older expats coming back to the US to use medicare/medicaide at the high costs of medical procedures. The US is making bank off of every expat that leaves the US. Medical is damn high and the savings on medicare alone out distances the few thousand dollars every month that an expat recieves. Go in a hospital for two weeks in the US and you are way past the amount of savings the US would get by cutting benefits or forcing expats home to use the medicaide system.

      Not true! Trump's proposal to end taxes on SS benefits will only benefit the top 40% of Social Security recipients that have significant income other than SS. 60% of all SS beneficiaries already pay NO taxes on their benefits. Not taxing SS benefits will also bankrupt the SS Trust Fund that much sooner, because all taxes presently being collected on Social Security benefits go right back into the trust fund. In effect, taxes on Social Security benefits is a form of means testing for wealthier retirees. Both me and my wife have pensions in addition to Social Security, but still pay no taxes (for now at least). We may eventually end of paying some taxes once we start taking Required Minimum Distributions from our non-Roth 401Ks. And BTW, the Social Security Trust Fund will be bankrupt in about 2032 unless changes are made. Currently, Trump has no proposals to fix it. He also had no proposals to fix it during his first term. Not taxing Social Security for wealthier retirees, and not fixing the projected shortfall, will cause a benefit CUT of about 21% starting in 2030 or so. There are plenty of accountants, certified financial planners, and retired government employees covering this topic in detail on TH-cam. Two of my favorites are Holy Schmidt! (a CPA), and Dr. Ed Weir, PhD, Former Social Security Manager. DO NOT BELEIVE THE RHETORIC YOU HEAR IN THE PRESS!!!!

How can you (meaning expats) think you can stay long term on a Tourist VISA. You can’t do it in the US. If you are going to stay there and make a life for yourself. Need a VISA that allows. Anyone that think they need to change to make us happy is wrong. Again we are guests and need to conduct ourselves as any guest should.

      @ It's NEVER been enough to live on and was never intended to be. And I'm a boomer, and I'll be far from dead in 2032. There are a handful of relatively painless/low pain fixes, that if implemented now, would shore up the Trust Fund for the next 50 - 75 years (maybe longer). But there's no political will to do it because ALL of our politicians are gutless. Trump has the perfect 2-year political window to fix it in, but the odds of him doing it are slim to none.

    • @newafricanforum
      @newafricanforum 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @jasonjames4254 what will happen in 2032? We are 2 president's away until then and many things might have changed or stayed the same. I personally think that changes to retirement schemes worldwide will happen gradually, including raising retirement age in some countries, so at that level mainly gen xers and below will be affected. What will affect boomers the most is inflation and/or God forbid another financial crisis. Regardless, at least for those who still can, it is always a wise idea to rather think of planning one's retirement and considering the government pension as the icing on the cake. In many developing countries, including the Philippines, some retirees do not get a cent from the government while those who get it get as much as a couple of meals per month. The west is heading in the same direction, i am pretty sure by the time i tap into the pension in 15 years, it will be probably good enough for electricity bills. 😢.

Like promising to eliminate the federal deficit, but increased it by more than 60 percent? Like promising to hire only the best people then nominating totally unexperienced political hacks like Pete Hegseth and Kash Patel. Like promising to uphold the law and go after criminals and then pardoning hundreds of January 6th insurrections that were convicted of physically attacking and injuring capitol police officers and preventing Vice President Pence from carrying out his constitutional duties? Like promising to bring down the prices of prescription drugs which only skyrocketed when he was in office? Like his promise to end Kim Jung Un's nuclear program but he only expanded it? Okay, I believe you are sounding an unnecessary alarm about social security. First and foremost, there are three types of social security; SSA, SSDI, AND SSI. Most retired foreigners here are probably receiving SSA. There is a SSA in Manila for any expat to contact about social security issues. No law would prevent foreigners from receiving their 'earned' SSA while living abroad. The "Trump administration has no unilateral authority to do anything to SSA unless Congress approves, and that is not on the horizon. What is under the examination is SSI, because they suspect many undocumented individuals might be receiving it. Lastly, we have a very informative US Embassy here; people need to get facts and not start rumors. The Philippines country is a place where foreigners are always welcome. You are right, Medicare cannot be utilized outside of the USA. You are wrong, I just got my tourist visa extended for six months. Please make sure you are providing accurate information and I am troubled to hear some of the things you are expressing on your site. Please do not be an alarmist.

    This episode was terribly disappointing to me. It was over-the-top alarmist, and misguided- in my humble opinion. I write this with sadness, because I love your content. Nobody is taking away anybody’s social security, or reducing it. Why would you needlessly scare folk? Then, your conversation on tariffs was downright absurd. You might want to revise this episode and remove the aforementioned. I like you very much. I write this as a friend. You might want to drop the political jargon, and instead, stick to your strengths, which is your experience in the Philippines.

    Mike, you are worried about the wrong thing. If you do the research carefully and know basic high school level Math, it takes about 30 seconds to realize that Social Security will be bankrupt no later than 2035. You can't have ONE person paying SS tax for each person who is getting income from SS. Can we raise Federal tax rate to 200% to cover only social security? You would have to do that, or in some other way break the laws of Math to save social security. In the year 2035, if you are a ~70-year-old natural born United States citizen living in the United States....you will not receive a single penny from social security, ever. There is no way the government would cut benefits for expats, if that benefit doesn't exist anymore. And keep in mind, it's not going to matter who is in charge (which political party) or how motivated they are to not cut benefits. When the well is dry, you don't argue about how to distribute the water. I will be retired soon, but my retirement will be self-funded. Although I will be eligible for SS, I do not expect to collect something that I am 100% certain will cease to exist soon.

With the growing trend toward nationalism combined with potential changes in visa/residency options, you can never be sure what the Philippines will do next. We also have to consider the destabilizing geopolitical effects of the ASEAN/America conflict with China in the South China Sea, the potential for a military conflict over Taiwan, tariffs, etc. In addition to all that, Philippine banks have a long reputation for making your money mysteriously disappear. In spite of all the political turmoil in the U.S., I feel my money would be much safer in diversified investments in the U.S.

    Mr. Flemming was deported and his SS benefits were terminated. He sued the government arguing that because he paid into SS, the government had no right to terminate his benefits. The Supreme Court disagreed and established the principle that just because you paid into SS does not mean you have the right to collect benefits.
