I have been to Southeast Asia and it’s really beautiful there. Singapore is beautiful and safe with world class healthcare but very expensive to live. Thailand is really nice with quality healthcare and is very cheap to live there. The language wasn’t a barrier because most people speak English.
The best country to retire is North Cyprus. The most safe country im the world. Low cost of life. Good climate. Wonderful beaches. Good health service.
We have considered and travelled to all of those countries along with Albania, Greece, Croatia, Romania, Malaysia, Costa Rica and Mexico before finally selecting Bulgaria and moving there for retirement 3 years ago. Since our retirement we have visited several more European countries but we are still convinced that Bulgaria is the best choice for a safe, comfortable and cheap retirement in Europe. In the future if we decide to try something tropical the only country that we may consider is Thailand
Yes, we haven't been in Serbia but have travelled to Montenegro, North Macedonia, Croatia, and Albania. The only country that is cheaper than Bulgaria is North Macedonia (region of Lake Ohrid is good, but we didn't like capital city of Skopje). Montenegro is nice but not cheap at all (prices there is comparable with Croatia - but Croatia is much nicer than Montenegro). Albania (Saranda and Vlore) has very nice beaches and warm winters but their summers are too hot for us and parking problems are very bad
The two biggest considerations when choosing a country when you have just a small pension income is the amount you're going to be taxed on that income, if any, and the minimum amount of monthly "passive" income like Social Security or pension required every month. Many countries require at least 1500 a month income from pension like Italy or Greece, two countries that have a low tax rate but Italy requires 3200 a month and Greece requires 2000 so that puts them out of consideration for many pensioners. Then there are places like Portugal which only requires about $900 a month income but you are taxed at more than 26% of that income, making it absolutely unaffordable to have a quarter of your pension gone. Many of the countries in this video mention the minimum monthly income needed however there is no mention of taxation. Good video though, thank you
I lived in Davao City, the fruit capital of the Philippines. Also, the city is surrounded by water & mountains, & what really I like about Davao is the "PEACE & ORDER" very safe to live
"Health care is more affordable than in the United States." Actually, this holds true for EVERY country in the world and thus is kind of a non-information.
Thailand and Vietnam make sure that All people can afford to live with dignity, pride and joy. Low cost of living makes people and not too worry too much about how they are going to live and survive. Our country the USA is killing our poor and middle class families by increasing the cost of living standard and that is why the majority of us are suffering and dying nowadays. Too many problems and homeless people. No real solution to many problems in the USA. Sad.
The Philippines SPEAK ENGLISH, because it was a former U.S. COLONY AND THE U.S. STILL CARRIES ALOT OF WEIGHT THERE. The Philippines have a connection to retirement or SSN with the U.S.. Just live near the U.S. BASES FOR SECURITY.
Can't be 10 countries on a "small pension" - when you factor in visa requirements financial demands and total expenses for these countries ! ---- Few actually offer very cheap requirements to live there 'long term' in their countries. Often it's also a language barriers which makes life difficult for seniors !

The food in Vietnam is a bit to weird for me. The Philippines has poor internet and infrastructure. Most apartments and homes don’t have the type of restroom and shower facilities people in the west are used too. Also, issues of you need special medical care beyond the basics. You need to travel to reach an advanced Health care facility for many life threatening illnesses.
I think you need to relook at Thailand atm it's not that easy or cheap to retire too... You have to have a visa and renew it very 3 months and you have to have a good amount of money coming in every month.
. . . but I have read accounts from people stating you're not allowed to leave the hospital until you pay your bill in full. Also, people haven't been allowed to get their dead relatives from the hospital without paying their full bill. ????

Manta, Ecuador is gorgeous, perfect weather and lots of fruits and veggies, fresh food markets. I've met several expat Americans who feel safe here as black people. I have one friend in Cuenca, Ecuador who told me that because he is black, taxi drivers "feel sorry" for him and always give him a lesser fare. He smiled as he told me, "It's racism but at least it works in my favor!" 😅😂 I told him that as a white woman the taxi drivers assumed I was wealthy and asked me for a tip extra on top of the fare. They felt entitled to extra money. Racism that worked against me. 😅 (Not wealthy by the way, which is why I moved here to begin with. 😂). There are a lot of grocery stores, all the produce is organic, GMO foods are illegal to grow here and Nature has rights. Vegan restaurants deliver food here too. :)
