Another amazing tutorial. I'm working on a new project involving a bottle like this and trying to recreate this look in 3D. Approaching this in physically accurate way doesn't really help, and to add to the complexity, the material I'm using is frosted glass

Hey there, I mounted the roll of savage translum plastic on a horizontal background stand, simply slid it on and clamped the roll so it doesn't unravel. Thanks for the good ideas, and thanks for the tip eh!

I just want to say that this is the first video I've seen of yours, sure to say I am now subscribed even just based off this video! But yeah, I wanted to give you props for a great video / tutorial, you can tell you've put thought into your production of the video and how you structured your tutorial tips.
I am also into photography as a hobby in the last few years and we seem to be a similar age (I'm 24), so I find your video quite impressive in that respect. More to the fact your set up wasn't overly complicated, nor your "workphlo" *ba dum tss*.
I haven't watched your other video's yet but the concept/structure for this video worked for me, nice one bro!

I guess normally you would prefer to have these questions asked at the FB group, but since I do not have FB i’m going to take my shot over here. I’m currently on the verge of buying lighting hardware dedicated to product photography, the hardware linked in your previous videos all looked like solid choices, thank you. In this video you switched from flash to continuous lights, do you have a specific reason for this (apart from educational purposes) :-) Maybe there are mayor drawbacks between them to keep in mind for beginners? Would greatly appreciate your opinion on the subject!

Hi Dustin, wonderfully explained and executed. I would like to know on which surface have you placed the bottle? See through Glass, reflexive glass (type, colour specs etc) or any other material? Also I hope one can achieve the same backlight with a flash on octabox instead if someone does not have a video light.

That patch tool is amazing. I've been trying to figure out a way to get rid of refections in paint for a while now, clone stamping would never get a good result for me.
Yeah it really is a magic Photoshop tool! I too begin my explorations with the clone-stamp and quickly realized the utility of something that is "smart" with it's patching technique. Have a great week Ben, cheers

I have a very tricky Bottle, in my personal minibar. It's a "Ron Zacapa XO Rum" - It has a lot of shapes & stuff - Very tricky to shoot, because you see every single light you use, also you see every interruption of light on the bottle. on nearly every shot you see on google, you can see the lights, that they used for this shot. Maybe you have some tips & tricks?

Beautiful bottle! Similiar to this tutorial, I think tweaking the shot such that your 1 back-light is fairly strong and simple is a good start. I agree when multiple lights get into the mix, it can be overwhelming which is why I like to fine-tune 1 light as much as possible. Great video as always, were you still able to keep your ISO low with the continuous lighting? I have tried continuous LED lighting in the past in the studio, but even with upping the exposure time, I still miss the power of the strobes. I recently got two Interfit Honey Badger 320's, and they are great because they are a solid continuous and strobe light in one. So I can switch back and fourth, and also mix video and stills. But I still find I struggle getting to ISO 100-200 with the continuous lighting.
Thanks James, yeah ISO was tricky -- especially with the window highlights which is why I blocked them then probably had the ISO around 200 / 400. I agree I love the consistent ISO 100 with flashes, but wanted to use these lights for a more visual tutorial. Cheers man!

Hi can i know the setting of your camera for this shot?
Since I'm on a tripod, shutter speed isn't an issue so I set desired aperture and ISO (f/13 and ISO 100-400) and then set the shutter speed accordingly!

Ahh! I was saying that if you don't turn the back light "on" you can take exposures with just the front light and combine them with a backlit exposure using the "lighten" blending mode. This allows someone to potentially shoot this with just 1 LED. Cheers Martin!
Great! I never fully moved into digital. In my old photo club times, with contests and all that, I would have liked a lot more to be a product photographer than an action one. Though I've not turned into pro, I feel more like obsessive Ansel Adams like than fast reacting. I've always felt fascinated with those long stories about full day (or even days) just preparing a bottle, with flash scoops, aluminum foil small squares mounted on tiny wires, antistatic brushes, and no-smoking (smoke free) studios.
But those were times of B&W developing! Digital opens a myriad of new opportunities.
Really fascinating to read about that era in photography, yes getting everything right in camera can be a magical experience! I definitely lean too much towards post-solutions myself, and am starting to craft a more wholesome workphlo with less compositing where possible! Having more lights always helps as well ✌️ THANK-YOU for watching and have a good day!
