I've had USB 3 header pins bent on desktop motherboards and also the screen connectors on old laptops but never seen one on a fan connector. I'll have to keep a look out for this!
Oh Sorin....I had like 7-8 notebooks with this kind of history. Friends and known people around me, came to me with this "disaster". "My laptop or PC was in Profi repair, I paid 50-70-100 €, and the computer is dead. I opened it, and after charger/cable plugged, fan dont even move. Like U said. its very common mistake. But the sad thing on it is, that many repair shops take huge money for nothing, and the customer cant get it back. even when the diagnosis was not proper. I like the way you work/think. I will be your next "joiner". P.S.I am a total microelectronic lame. But offten its a simple way to fix a problem. I wish U the best of health.
I like how you used the de-soldering heat to check the fan - you cover all potential items - nice video and thank you for sharing - I did catch the fan plug when you had the cover off - nice repairs
I would've never guessed this one, thanks for the knowledge. I would start very complicated by checking MOSFETs, bq chip, everything else. Good train of thought.
Excellent repair. The so called technician on this surely realised that there was way too much resistance when they tried to plug the fan connector in and instead of stopping, they just forced it and damaged the laptop.
I bought a for parts laptop intending on using the screen. Advertised as dead mobo. When i got it the only thing wrong was 2 pins of the charger connector were bent together just like this fan connector in the video. Easy fix. Ended up being the max spec too. So I ended up with a 100% upgrade and for less than the price of a screen.
Happened to me about a year ago. it took me 2 days to find out. i had already disassembled the entire laptop 3 times. In my case the pin was broken but same mindf@$k until i found it. great video!
I read the thumbnail and thought someone died after cleaning a board LOL. I was already thinking about something like the device being used in a chemically contaminated area. Luckily all is fine, i mean apart from the laptop…
propoer easy - this is new for me , I have service countless systems and never encounter this. I think this comes down to the service person experience, just as how you could have seen the connector was crooked.
Same story fixing Photocopiers for 30+ years.... The first question you ask the technician who calls you out on a tech visit is "What did you come here for, what did you "Fix" and how did you fix it?"
Please sorin what could be the problem when a when you press the power button it lights on for like 10secs and then off but no fan running and no display.
There are 4 wires on the fan, not 8. You've got VCC (power), ground, tachometer (measures the rotational speed of the fan) and PWM (feedback circuit to adjust the speed of the fan).
I'm sorry but I'm not so forgiving, when a repair one has carried out results in another fault appearing then the basic thing to do is go over what one has done, that fault was down to a piss poor very clumsy "technician"
Wow but who would spot that Sorin the king of repairs!
Experience. Once it happens to you, its another thing that may have gone wrong.
Professional, go straight and aim the point so quicky. Respect.
That problem not easy to solve
But because of your experience it is easy for you boss
Thanks for all what you teach us

New fear unlocked 😂 bending connector pins.

@@JustInspiredKent maybe the person that bent the pins initially had sausages instead of fingers
This shows knowledge and experience. Nice job.😊
Little tricks that can be helpful for many people. Thanks Sorin. God bless you!😌🙏

I have never found anything like this but this is great video sorin!
I like his knowledge of inteligence as to solve the problem the knowledge is in the details. subscribed.
Great job! never imagine that pin was bend!
no fluff, no BS just straight and direct. I wonder do you need to put a a lot of pressure on those connectors before they break?
Something's bound to go wrong and they'll need you, Sorin, on the mission to Mars.
A proper nice spaceship. Yeah? Now let's see why it's not turning on.
Very nice one, Sorin!
And... if the pin is broken, you can solder the fan wire directly to the connector pad! 😉
Interesting repair, good catch! 🍕🙂
Excellent repair. The so called technician on this surely realised that there was way too much resistance when they tried to plug the fan connector in and instead of stopping, they just forced it and damaged the laptop.

As always Educational and well presented😉!

That's a good thing to know especially when people kinda jam those connections in. Thanks brother

You sir are top notch...all your gear is square...nice job.
Good video and totally common connector fault.
NICE, good lesson on thermal replaced .. (y)😃
Nice fix Sorin!, could have been very painful, possibly fry the .E.C. if shorted the wrong pins there,
Merci Sorin! A la prochaine ! ❤
This is the first time seeing this kind of job in your channel
awesome job man, love to see it

Nice idol Sorin.
Nice, I was thinking all kinds of things, never thought of that but then should always start what was done previously and check that first
Thank you❤
Very Good! 👍
Genius!!!. More tips.
It is also common that the fan connector rips off when you try to plug the connector in. Then the easy cleaning job becomes a trace restoration one :D
very Nice!😁😁👍
Have Nice week-end
OMG, I can't believe there's a problem like this :O
Probably over tightened the screws of the heatsinks or a short from a component with reassembly
Vacuum cleaners, Air compressors, laptops, So often the failure point is where humans interact with the device. We break stuff.
There is the same pizza for small and big mistakes 😆
nice job
No connector, no faulty connector? 😂
Nice 👍
Perfect❤
now i know...thanks sorin
Usually u would feel the difficulty plug the fan
Please sorin what could be the problem when a when you press the power button it lights on for like 10secs and then off but no fan running and no display.
Sorin, You earned your pizza on that job. Just curious, what should i charge the customer for such a simple repair if I ever get a job like that?
Usually the overheating jobs are charged £60-£80 here in England, that include replacing the thermal paste and cleaning the fan
20-30€/$
Very interesting
Sherlock Holmes investigation. 😂 Felicitari!
Interesting. Not sure I would have spotted that.
What microscope you use for repairs?
Are you satisfied with the product ?
I want to buy one
I have never seen that fault, but have seen the USB port pins broken, interesting.
👍 perfect
The same thing happened to me but with a desktop PC.
great!!!
i had a friend who had that on his 15pin vga plug no idea how he did it

Hello
That is so bad, why can't they build these computers with stronger better designed connectors? I mean you pay a lot of money for their product
why having connector if you can solder it straight to the board, no shorted connector 🤣
How come, a fan requires 8 wires to work?
There are 4 wires on the fan, not 8. You've got VCC (power), ground, tachometer (measures the rotational speed of the fan) and PWM (feedback circuit to adjust the speed of the fan).
@@CallumFaulds1My bad. I saw 8 pins and assumed there were 8 wires.

You don't need a microscope for repairs. I have repaired tens of thousands of things and all I use is a helping hands stand and a 8x stamp magnifier.
