    The cabinet I use in the video is a HON 4 drawer lateral legal file cabinet. You can typically find them used on Facebook market place or Offerup. Bought mine for $80 but it has a few flaws. The dimensions of the cabinet are 36W x 19D x 53H. For the dividers within each cabinet, I used old painted particle board which were shelves from an old billy book case from IKEA. A bit lighter than solid wood but better thickness than foam boards. Although I don’t have the dividers secured, the dividers fill in the empty space nicely so the books fit nice and tight.

    Those labels are so freaking cool, definitely thinking of buying a filling cabinet now, being able to add magnets to the cabinet makes for a basically a big customizable box.

    I also use file cabinets. I bought 3 of them about 16 months ago after getting back into collecting, and they are all almost full now (just over 6k comics). Here's a tip for people who want to use file cabinets and don't care if they match... check to see if your local university has a "surplus" or "salvage" store. I got my file cabinets that way for $15 each. Nothing wrong with them, they were just old. That kind of surplus store will also have a ton of office chairs, monitors and keyboards, bicycles, and desks.

    Really enjoyed seeing how you manage your organization system. I think you did a great job solving small organization problems, like what to do when one has just a very small amount of a certain title. I also really like your file cabinet system because your books are so easily accessible. On my personal collection, I decided to use magazine holders on a bookshelf because of the ease of access, but after watching your video, I would definitely consider this system as well. Great video, and looking forward to more!

    When storing comics in a box, is it ok for them all to face the same direction? I have heard from some people that you should alternate upside down or even facing each other every other book.

  • @joeammirato2197
    @joeammirato2197 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since I have been getting pretty quick replies by everyone here.. I had a question as I just got this same file cabinet. Do you guys ever use shelf liners in your comic boxes or cabinets? (You know, the rubber liners they use in kitchen drawers). Was hoping to get people's opinions on this...

    • @ComicsWithBonics
      @ComicsWithBonics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t have any experience with shelf liners but I have used adhesive backed felt sheets for the bottom of my cabinet drawers. This allows less sliding on the bottom of the drawers. You can get them on Amazon.

    Enjoyed vid. Although you say the star of the show is the filing cab, you dont really show how you divided the rows? Did you secure the shelving dividers? I would be concerned having loose wooden dividers in between my books? Could you please elaborate on this? Thanks again, nice collection!

    • @ComicsWithBonics

      Thanks for the comment. The rows are divided with painted particle board. A bit lighter than solid wood but better thickness than foam boards. Although I don’t have the dividers secured, the dividers fill in the empty space nicely so the books fit nice and tight. Haven’t had any issues. Hope this helps 🤙

    Thanks for the reply and the great video. I just ordered my Hon 4 drawer lateral file (trying to duplicate your setup). Another question I have just to save time is as I know you mentioned that the dividers you used were like bookshelf wood.. can you possibly let me know what dimensions of the wood you had cut. I see you use 3 dividers per shelf and they look like 1 inch thick.. just wondering what length and height are each of the wooden dividers?

    • @ComicsWithBonics
      @ComicsWithBonics  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each shelf was cut to 32”x10” roughly. About a little less than an inch thick. The shelf is particleboard so it’s not as heavy.
