I am amazed how the father was purchasing multiple comic book copies all those years ago. How many people did this back then..? I don't think too many people did this. That was very impressive. This would have been a great person to meet and have a great conversation about comics with, and listen to what he enjoyed and believed in collecting. A Superman issue 1 CGC grade 7. I could spend an entire day just looking at all these comics and that would be a great adventure for me.
barely anyone. Thats the crazy thing when you think about it. The dad was like the first person who invested in bitcoin. His foresight must have been insane. Just imagine the wisdom he could have passed on
Yeah his family was embarrassed by his hobby , now after he died they enjoy the money and attention. There's frauds to collectors ! My dad got me into comics so I do take this to heart. It sucks the collection was left to them !
They’re comic books. It’s a niche market, comic nerds know that. Sometimes in pursuit of a dream one forgives their fam for being noobs and scrubs. I think the fruits of his labor was what he wanted for them all along. Wish homie could earn enough fiat not to auction though. Some things are priceless
He already spoke out and said his dad never showed him interest. He would rather spend time on eBay for comics then spend time with him as a child’s He would fight with his mother because he had rooms and closets full of comic boxes and never tried to get his son interested. He was a good collector but I can definitely see how he would be seen as a neglectful father
He was a collector, not a hoarder. There's a HUGE difference. He kept the items safe and apparently got most of them encapsulated to preserve them properly. He left an incredible, valuable legacy behind. Kudos sir, rest easy.
These people had no respect for that man. He provided for his family and had a hobby and was hated for it. Some people really deserve less. They abandoned him. They have no shame.
I’m dumbfounded by this story. How is that some undeserving people get all the luck? This lawyer deserved better. Collecting is no different than buying stock. He had a diverse portfolio and invested in what he believed would benefit over time. Now, the payoff for his hard work will go to those that did nothing but shame him for his passion.
He spoke out and said his dad would rather spend time on eBay looking for comics than spend time with him as a child. Just because he made good financial decisions with investing in comic books doesn’t make him a good father and husband. It’s the same as a father who spends 24/7 at work. Neglecting his family and responsibilities but when he dies their families inherit his wealth.
@@ifreezetvcomicsof course. Cause you were close to the family and you saw this firsthand. Facts: They’re using their story for publicity. Reached out to CGC to collaborate on a private label. Who would have been embarrassed by this INCREDIBLE collection????? Even back in the day without the massive value of the items it would have been so cool! Poor father.. rest in peace man, I wish people would have been around him to appreciate what he had when he was alive and it wasn't about the $$$
I collected comic books as a child and teen, and one day I came home from school and they were all gone from my bedroom. My mother decided that I was too old to be collecting comic books and put them out with the garbage collection that day. What a woman!
Well it’s sad that he resented his dad for collecting. My dad collected coins and I collected comics. Collecting was our common interest my whole life. Even though we collected different things we understood each other’s obsession with grails and collecting. And I don’t think they give this man enough credit. If he bought that Superman already graded he definitely knew it’s importance and scarcity because the CGC keeps a census of all the books graded so he would definitely know what else was out there graded and that his was one of the top.
One huge difference. You both knew about each others hobbies and your father undestood your intrest and you both supported each other. In this story its clear the father never shared the comics or his love of comics with his son.And the ammpount of time it took to store and get these. Imagine if your father had spent tons of time on the coins and not with you and you didnt even know what he was spending so much time on it.If the father expressed his love of collecting and maybe shared it with his son he wouldnt have felt some resenment
HOLY.SHIT. I actually shed a tear or two - - utterly amazing. And I agree w/the other poster, he WAS NOT a hoarder, he was a collector. And a great one too. He basically left his family MILLIONS. And I think he knew what he was doing too, that wasn’t luck or an accident. His family should feel a little foolish/ashamed for doubting him to that degree.
Bro he has his garage and a room completely full of comic books. Also a closet full of comic books outside of a box! He was definitely a hoarder! Just because the stuff people hoarder are valuable doesn’t mean he didn’t have a problem 😂I wouldn’t leave comic books stacked raw laying flat. That’s really bad for comic books. He definitely had a problem with space
I think he made a mistake revealing his face and making this story public. A guy like this shouldn’t be embraced by the collector’s community. What they thought about their father/husband is what they actually think of all of us. Thankfully my son and nephew appreciate my collection. Unlike this family, shameful.
Not personally knowing anyone in this story we should DEFINITELY take the husband's side 100%. I'll go the other way and say he was probably a complete asshole. Now at least they get something out of enduring it. How do you know I'm not the one who's right? All I see is people wishing they were the appreciative son all along and it was their inheritance. Virtue signaling and greedy wish fulfillment.
Did no one see the pictures? Boxes filled a room and their garage and raw comics stacked in the closet. He is considered a hoarder because his dad was not running a business he had a “I have to collect it all mind set”. His son spoke out already and said his dad would rather go searching for comics on eBay then spend time with him as a kid. It’s the same as dads who work 24/7 and ignore their families but when they die their kids inherits his wealth. He was still a neglecting his wife and son
Rockin' the Comic Tom Expensive Paper shirt LOL that is actually comical. "Now exposing this family secret and uncovering it to the world" -Translation=selling it. It's an absolute paradox how someone's foresight years ago lead to fighting and divorce, but now all the sudden it brings great joy after that person with the foresight is gone. I'm not sure these two actually deserve to enjoy this awesome collection. After all the son "resented" the father and it brought the family "shame". Guess when it turns into money everything is forgiven. SMH
I was born in 1950 and collected comics from 1955 - 67. Where did the " shame " come from that the family says they experienced ? We have known for fifty plus years that comics are valuable.
Frankly I just think these two are embarrassed by the windfall in light of the local economy. He had three shipping containers full you can't downplay that lol.
I’m sorry to sound bitter but women have a way to poison a child mind against their fathers. Clearly when the wife ask for the divorce because she wanted things and he got other things. She turn the child against his father. They all do it, is what they do and the ones that say they don’t they are lying and will do it eventually, if things don’t go their way.
His plan was to enjoy himself while alive and take care of his family financially when he was gone..or the man would have sold them and reaped the benefits while alive. Amen to him. Shame on the disrespect of that family. So undeserving
He was a hoarder. His collection took over the entire family home. He wife wasn't happy about it and he didn't stop. Can you imagine if you partner started filling up your home with trash? The old man didn't know there was millions of dollars in comic books there - he chose collecting and obscene amount of comics over the mental health of his wife. They're fortunate there ended up being value in the books.
Every collector should have a will. The will should include a list of all $100. and up items AND who should get them OR what auction house(s) they should go to. Any family member who doesn't appreciate the items gets NOTHING. The list of rarities may help if any of the family members try to pilfer the collection before it is given to the selected source(s) designated in the will. Half of the collectors I know have family members that are as deplorable as this EX-wife in the video.

It’s common, to be judged by non collectors. I am judged everyday especially by those closest to me. And for a long time , I believed something was wrong with me. But my family has everything they need. I have a job, with benefits for my family, and yet I am still judged. I have sold much of my collection for the benefit of my family, but get no thanks for that, Nor do I expect thanks. But still get Judged. Even through all that, I still find great joy in collecting. Now I realize, after watching this story, I won’t let them get me down. The world is bad enough , and collecting is an escape, a therapy. Judgement comes with the territory. I have made peace with that. Happy collecting everybody.
Too bad they couldn't have just TALKED to him about all this stuff. Almost everyone as far back as the 1970s knew that Superman #1 (in any condition, let alone a 7.0!) was a GREAT investment...the first Batman, the first Iron Man...he was building his family's financial future!
Amazing collection of high grade books, but the family was embarrassed by the collecting, the wife divorced him, but we have no problem selling the books and toys for money. PATHETIC

This “ex-wife” and “son” are horrible people. This news segment is an absolute embarrassment. The mental gymnastics they have to do to somehow make the deceased Father “hoarder” seem insane but also forward-thinking and intelligent is nonsensical. They talk about him with disappointment, but yet will cash in on his passion.
If my family member shame me for collecting and buying this kind of stuff, They don’t deserve any money or help from me that i made from selling my collection. I’m myself a Comic Book collector and i have 6730 comics right now in my personal collection. Some are raw copy and some are cgc graded. So never underestimate any collector that collects this kind of stuff.
Wow, this guy was a genius. If I had the money I’d do the same thing, collecting is the only thing that maintains some peoples sanity in a crap world, I can relate.
I would have loved to be this guys son. Spending weekends organizing these treasures, educating mom and having a great life appreciating an interesting father.
They spurned his collections and now joyfully profit from it. All those grails plus rookie cards? THere are literally millions in those containers. The ex wife should have been cut out of all that in his will. Would be karma.
Even now the wife is still bashing her husband saying the son is the total opposite of the father...that the son is bright and positive while the husband was dark and negative...of course he did the work while the son proudly shows of the collection. Sickening....
This is a very sad story. A man’s family condemned his hobby while he was alive, and the minute he dies, they inherit his hobby and make lots of money from it. Life ain’t fair at all. These two ungrateful people do not deserve this man’s collection.
the mother and son are terrible people. they didnt give a crap about the dad and his collection when he was alive. soon as he died they found out his collection had some value and now there tune has changed. i couldnt imagine making investments in something to hopefully provide for your family in the future only to be mocked and kicked out of the house.
The family didn't bother to understand it then, they don't deserve a damn piece of it now. That man is a much better person than I would've been. That whole collection should've gone to museums and charities.
Had a copy of Superman 1. Found it at a yard sale in 1972 for 10 cents! The owner did not understand it was worth something. About 2 years later my dumb sister lent it to a neighbour who moved to Trinidad. Most likely he bought a house with the money! Yes I am still angry at my sister.
They had no love or passion for his collection and it drove them all away from him. It would have been nice if he could have shared that with his kids as they grew up. Don't know how you can have this love for cards, comics, and toys and not share it with your kids. Wife was like so many, ashamed her husband collected toys and comics. Now that the stuff is worth millions she is overjoyed. Why I started liquidating my collections few years ago. Any family I have would not care for any of it and would just take whatever they could get for it, better off leaving them some cash if anything.
What an absolutely disgusting and dismissive portrayal of the deceased gentleman.Such a shameful job of the news channel as well to do the story in such a way.The son and ex-wife are low life’s.
The fact that she compared her son to her late husband is cruel, shame on her. That dad was awesome to have amounted a collection like this. This collection was more than money, it was his fathers passion. Shame on them.
It sounds like there was a "dark cloud" and perceived "shame" on the family because of his miserable wife. The nerve of that ignorant woman to say what she did as her son is doing better with the stuff. What a sad thing to see. She is still manipulating that whole situation. She poisoned her son against his father, divorced him and now has the gall to sit there and give an interview wearing a freaking comic book shirt. What a sad story (with a silver lining).
No shame in this? Would his family complain if he was storing gold bars to leave them? He actually did a great thing leaving this valuable investment to them.
KaChing. Thanks Dad Now im a certified millionaire and do not need to work anymore lol What a awesome dad..Respect to this one of a kind secret collector.May he rest in peace!
So sad. If those books and collectibles were worthless they would’ve gone to goodwill. It’s a harmless hobby, which brought him joy and now the family is raking in the $$
They don't deserve any of it. This is such a sad story and these people should be embarrassed for it. Reaping the benefits of someone else's passion. The family shame they kept speaking of is them for doing what they did to the man that made this collection.
It seems super suspicious that he had a “Mallrats” framed movie poster on the wall and Kevin Smith is a known comic book nut who owns a comic book store. I don’t know what the connection is there but it threw me for a loop and made my spidey sense tingle. Especially given that “Mallrats” is a relatively obscure movie from almost 30 years ago and they just recently discovered this collection. Can’t put my finger on it but something is going on there.
Ya but if he was so involved he was neglecting his job as a husband and father that ain't great either. Think about how many vacations he could've taken his family on if he just had half the collection he did.
Dad should have left a will where they got absolutely zero of that collection. Looking at the set up he had I'm sure they already benefited greatly from his success as a lawyer. That's not hoarding, that's building a very impressive collection. Hoarding would have been stacks of disorganized books piled up to the ceiling in various states of condition, not bagged and boarded and slabbed. I hate that my meager collection of books in probably the 100K range or so will be sold for probably pennies on the dollar when I pass and not one single person in my life has ever shown the least bit of interest in the thing I've been into for 30+ years. This guy's collection looks like it's in the 10's of millions.
Agree that this is a true collection and not hoarding. I think the entire collection was not graded and his son got the more valuable books slabbed in order to get the most value from auction. There are only two copies of Superman 1 with a CGC blue label graded 7.0 and one sold in 2021 for $2.6Million. I suspect this must be the other copy and it doesn't appear in the sold slabs data because it was recently graded and hasn't been sold yet. I don't know what fee CGC would charge on that valuable a book, but it would be 5 figures for sure. I'm guessing it would be close to $30K just for the grading fee for that Superman 1.
@@toddboyce3599 Having never gotten any books graded, I had no idea you had to pay more depending on the value of the book like that. I thought it was a flat fee under a certain amount and another over that threshold. Interesting. I guess if he's going to get 2.5 mill or so for it, the 30K isn't a concern. Seems like there's an incentive for CGI to give book a higher grade if that means they get a bigger % though.

I could spend an entire day just looking at all these comics and that would be a great adventure for me.
father was a lawyer? pretty cashed up i guess
barely anyone. Thats the crazy thing when you think about it. The dad was like the first person who invested in bitcoin. His foresight must have been insane. Just imagine the wisdom he could have passed on
His family are awful people. I'm glad he enjoyed his hobby while he was alive...he paved the way for "adult geeks" like me. God bless him!
Don’t judge. It clearly caused issues for them
Yeah his family was embarrassed by his hobby , now after he died they enjoy the money and attention.
@@yoced1468 . Yes

He would rather spend time on eBay for comics then spend time with him as a child’s He would fight with his mother because he had rooms and closets full of comic boxes and never tried to get his son interested. He was a good collector but I can definitely see how he would be seen as a neglectful father
They didn’t even care to learn about his hobby

Who’s more important, his wife or his comics? He shouldn’t have got married. Comics are for children.
Facts:
They’re using their story for publicity.
Reached out to CGC to collaborate on a private label.
Auctioned many of his books through big auction homes and made millions of dollars.
Agreed on a deal with Netflix to promote their “story” and make a profit.
Both, mom and son, are wearing the promotional Netflix T-Shirts.
Those are facts.
If he spent that money on jewelry, furs, expensive cars and fancy meals I bet she wouldn't have divorced him. Too bad his son isn't preserving at least one of everything in the collection. Sad.

@@ifreezetvcomicsI know if my kids shared my interest in dinosaur figures and action figures I would be ecstatic. Luckily my wife thinks it's 'neat' and doesn't make me feel wierd at all about it.
The man was a collcetor. For the family to label him otherwise is insulting to his passion. Now, they are going to get rich on his dime. I hope they get their karma.
Who would have been embarrassed by this INCREDIBLE collection????? Even back in the day without the massive value of the items it would have been so cool! Poor father.. rest in peace man, I wish people would have been around him to appreciate what he had when he was alive and it wasn't about the $$$
Family was evil. Accept for the Father. He's cool
I collected comic books as a child and teen, and one day I came home from school and they were all gone from my bedroom. My mother decided that I was too old to be collecting comic books and put them out with the garbage collection that day. What a woman!
i would have been arested that day for forcing an alleged human being into a trashcan
He definitely had a problem with space
he collected to escape his horrid wife and son!
Great comment! 😂
💯💯💯
I think he made a mistake revealing his face and making this story public. A guy like this shouldn’t be embraced by the collector’s community. What they thought about their father/husband is what they actually think of all of us. Thankfully my son and nephew appreciate my collection. Unlike this family, shameful.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Completely Agree
They don't deserve it
Rockin' the Comic Tom Expensive Paper shirt LOL that is actually comical.
He started a kickstarter for this dumb ass movie when he's sitting on over a million+ in comics. Get bent!
These disgusting people are lucky he didn’t have a will and donated these items.
His plan was to enjoy himself while alive and take care of his family financially when he was gone..or the man would have sold them and reaped the benefits while alive. Amen to him. Shame on the disrespect of that family. So undeserving
this isnt a feel good story this is nightmare fuel
This news station is a joke calling this guy a hoarder
Calling him a hoarder is disrespectful to the guy that was trying to guarantee the future of the family.
💯💯💯💯 cause the dad KNEW... he said he bought MULTIPLE copies of some of the books 📚 AND the sports cards and action figures and toys... the father KNEW he had gold ✨️

No matter what it’s not good enough in the eyes of a non collector family. Plus haters in the collecting community like to judge as well. It’s like we are not meant to fit in. Story of my life. Even through all that, I still find great joy in collecting. Now I realize, after watching this story, I won’t let them get me down. The world is bad enough , and collecting is an escape, a therapy. Judgement comes with the territory. I have made peace with that. Happy collecting everybody.
His ex-wife deserves NONE of that money.
Grifters. Comic Fam scumbags. Dale should have burned it all before he passed.
PATHETIC
Right on! It burns me up too!

Now I did meet you in person before and you where very nice to me and I do thank you for that. But I do feel this family should donate some of the money to Autism Awareness in some way.
This is sad , this man amass a great collection for his family and they mocked him for it in life, but now they reap the benefits. If I had a dad like that I would have been so thanks
Sad the family as a whole couldn't enjoy it together while he was collecting.
Only a collector will understand, there's joy and unquantifiable happiness in collecting items that collectors see value on such items.

Because collecting comics and cards became popular and mainsteam only within the last 20 years before then everyone thought you were a geek or nerd or a hoarder.
His family doesn't deserve a penny. They magically started caring when they could make money.
His family does not deserve this collection....anyone can appreciate money....not everyone can appreciate that collection....
I would have loved to be this guys son. Spending weekends organizing these treasures, educating mom and having a great life appreciating an interesting father.
He wanted to be a good father but you threw him out. Thank you
Unfortunate that the guy was shamed by his family when he was alive and now a hero when he’s no longer around. The family should say “I’m sorry”.
They spurned his collections and now joyfully profit from it. All those grails plus rookie cards? THere are literally millions in those containers. The ex wife should have been cut out of all that in his will. Would be karma.
The video indicates that the father gave the collection to his son. Where in the video did it say the ex-wife got anything from his will?

Your dad set you all up for life…& you still left him & resented him.
Don’t even appreciate the guy who left it to them lol
The family didn't bother to understand it then, they don't deserve a damn piece of it now. That man is a much better person than I would've been. That whole collection should've gone to museums and charities.
Had a copy of Superman 1. Found it at a yard sale in 1972 for 10 cents! The owner did not understand it was worth something. About 2 years later my dumb sister lent it to a neighbour who moved to Trinidad. Most likely he bought a house with the money! Yes I am still angry at my sister.
Love him now because he invested and now they can swim in Cash
A whole family of Uncle Scrooges !!!
Any updates on collection?
They had no love or passion for his collection and it drove them all away from him. It would have been nice if he could have shared that with his kids as they grew up. Don't know how you can have this love for cards, comics, and toys and not share it with your kids. Wife was like so many, ashamed her husband collected toys and comics. Now that the stuff is worth millions she is overjoyed. Why I started liquidating my collections few years ago. Any family I have would not care for any of it and would just take whatever they could get for it, better off leaving them some cash if anything.
They threw that man out of their lives. Never even showed an interest in what fascinated him. These ingrates deserve NOTHING.
They gonna reap the rewards now 👺
They appreciate him now because his collection is worth millions.
Greed!
This video perfectly summarizes what large amounts of money does to people. Money is the root cause of all evil.

Duuuuuuddddeeee his father left him with a lifetime of treasure, I wish I was him, this is gonna worth millions in total!
Dad was a hero!
I want to see a documentary from the perspective of the father in this story.
No shame in this? Would his family complain if he was storing gold bars to leave them? He actually did a great thing leaving this valuable investment to them.
What he did was a 100 times better than gold bars....absolutely shameful of this family.

They should learn the difference between being a hoarder and collector.
IT'S SOUNDS LIKE "SORRY DAD, YOU SUCK. BUT THANKS FOR ALL THE MONEY I'M COLLECTING NOW"
Possibly the best collection on the planet.
The father was secretly massing a Fortune right under their noses and for them to think he had a problem and they abandoned him is so sad.
people can;t understand. They probably believed he was secretly spending a fortune
Ya but if he was so involved he was neglecting his job as a husband and father that ain't great either. Think about how many vacations he could've taken his family on if he just had half the collection he did.
Holy shit! They should be thanking him! They’re rich now because of that collection
I've seen the show Hoarders. This man was a collector. Not a hoarder.
That's your Father's Inheritance to you and your Mother. I think your Father was very smart, this is a fantastic investment.
LOL, funny how the tables have turned... Quote " Once brought him shame, now brings great pride" LOL.. no, now they see dollar signs. Funny stuff, she even divorced him over it. Seems like a nice lady, as she wearing a Superman shirt.
