    I use the plain white short boxes and put labels on them...I have a Batman box I put a ‘nice’ bat symbol sticker on. Planning on using the cardboard short boxes until we have a home...then I want to build a big storage wall with pull out bins...it will be sick but also all I see is $$$ when I think about it. Lol

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love being able to decorate the standard boxes. I've used stickers and I've Mod Podged some. A storage wall will be amazing. It absolutely will cost a lot of money, but the investment should be worth it. Especially if you know that you are in a home that you plan on staying in.

    I love my lateral filing cabinets... Have 3 2 drawer cabinets, each hold around 1500 books, and are easy to browse though. And then have graded bins on top. Only issue is selling, or moving, the comics... There is no moving a loaded cabinet.

  • @Glitch_343
    @Glitch_343 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    All of my short boxes are BCW (got around 30 of them) and love them. I have tried cheaper alternatives (e.g. Comicare before it was discontinued) and found that the cut doesn't fit right leaving you with big gaps. BCW boxes have a nice tight fit which is great.
    Only issue I have with them is that they are very difficult to get in the UK without paying stupid amounts for delivery.
    Through the BCW website, delivery is around $122-$144 which is why i never buy directly through them. Third parties are a viable option but the price of the boxes will go up e.g. that plastic bin in the UK usually goes for around £52($65) for a single box.
    Shame really 😕

    Yo! I'm hoping you can give some expert advise towards a quick question pertaining to these boxes. I know you've been pushing BCW Cardboard Comic Boxes for quite some time and I recently purchased some but was surprised by a few of the box designs. I noticed that, while they are nicely slim shaped and feel sturdier than boxes from other brands, they have gaps on the right and left bottom end sections that allow comics to fall in those grooves.
    Now don't get me wrong, I add extra boards on each of the ends anyways, but I was wondering if these gaps were always present and is it normal for them to also have 1/4inch holes in the bottom corners? Maybe their product changed over time or these manufacturing decisions are intentional to increase air circulation? These things just stand out as odd at first glance so I would appreciate some educated feedback from a pro such as yourself incase the quality of the boxes has decreased in their recent batches.
    Thanks in advance for your time and hope you have an awesome weekend!

    Man I LOVE my BCW plastic bin. It’s all about that peace of mind having two dogs a cat and a baby but I got a question. When I first started collecting single issues I saw a video were the guy said to rotate the spin in the box. Do you think this is important? I am starting to think not especially cause I’m not over packing my boxes

    • @MrAce514
      @MrAce514 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BSchnurr5929 hello there! I do recommend rotating the spine even in the plastic bin...try both ways and you’ll see how much better it is to rotating the spine compared to not doing so...

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I appreicate Ace's comment and perspective. He's not wrong at all. Rotating the spines will provide that extra piece of mind if you want to go the extra mile when storing your books.
      But personally I don't do it. If you are storing your books in Mylar and backing boards especially, I believe any long term damage to the spines is almost nill to none, as long as you aren't over stuffing your boxes. If you are over stuffing, then it becomes more of a problem. If you are storing without backing boards, then it becomes a serious problem.
      I also do not like having books not facing forward. As a completest, I need to have each book facing forward so when I am flipping through my boxes, I see each and every book.
      Again, this is all my personal opinion. Everyone should really examine all variables, and choose what is best for them.

    • @BSchnurr
      @BSchnurr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerno's Comics & Pop Culture well I’m not using Mylar yet but not being able to see the title really bugs me. It’s something I’ve always done but with 6 boxes now it’s starting to get annoying when I want to reread or add to the box

    • @MrAce514
      @MrAce514 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerno's Comics & Pop Culture you said it very well. True indeed everyone needs to try every way they can to figure out their personal collector’s style be it comics, cards, figures, or whatever you prefer. I’m not yet at the mylar level but if it greatly reduces spine damage for the long term I’ll have to switch over sooner than later. I flip the spines but I sacrifice my preference of seeing every comic book one after the other...

      @@JernosComicsPopCulture yeah after your vid i checked out BCW webstite i was going to order direct from them and try and save some money. Its not the product that gets you its the postage or shipping. I was going to buy $145 USD worth of product and it was going to cost $680 USD in shipping. I know the shipping cost was probably due to the weight if the order but if im going to order direct im going to order in bulk not like 1 pack of boards, box and a pack of sleeves

    Those plastic comic book bins are more than 5x better than cardboard. Plastic bins all day. Budget for the future. Cardboard bends over time, is a breeding ground for pests, and holds moisture. True story. Lol. I couldn't switch fast enough when the plastic bins came out a couple years ago.

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you. Though I will say that I've had many cardboard boxes for decades that have withstood the test of time. I think it goes back to looking at the overall environment of where you are storing your books. I'm pretty spoiled being able to have the space in an insulated room where I don't really worry about certain elements. Though, I do get a lot of daddy long leg spider webs on the ceiling in my room.

    Amazon has the short box storage bins are $22.95 and sometimes they have it on sale for 16 bucks. my self and few stores in my city has found BCW website is a rip off

    • @JernosComicsPopCulture
      @JernosComicsPopCulture  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I say this respectfully, but sometimes we should put things into perspective before making such harsh accusations. First, the boxes for $22.95 on Amazon are sold BY BCW themselves, and they are only that price for Prime members. If you are not a prime member, they are 29.95. Also, if you buy in bulk from BCW, they drop their prices.
      I have been buying BCW product for 2 decades, and I always check multiple sources and explore lowest prices available, and I will humbly state that BCW is not a ripoff. I buy E Gerber Mylar bags instead of BCW because they end up being cheaper in bulk, but that doesn't mean BCW is a rip off. Sometimes, you are just bound to find a slightly better deal somewhere else.
