    I actually do have quite some skill at posing action figures, so I might as well throw some tips from my own experience:
    -The most important part about posing (at least for me) is INTENTION.
    You want to have a clear idea of WHAT you want your figure to do and HOW to convey that intention. Even if you do know what the intention of the pose is, it won't be of any help if the pose doesn't VISUALLY convey the action.
    For example, if you want to make a running pose, a straight body with just one leg in front of the other won't convey the intention as good as a bent body with legs thrusting forward.
    You need to capture the energy of the intended action. It does take a while to understand it, so it's ok if you don't succeed at first, but once you master the art of intention, your poses will look much more natural and awesome, even with figures that don't have the best of articulation.
    A good exercise to understand intention is just watching any movie/TV show (preferably animated ones, since they tend to have more expressive poses) and try to analyze which movements and body positions the characters use to convey the energy of their poses.
    -If you want figures with awesome posing potential, don't go for Transformers.
    Due to engineering and budget constraints, general retail Transformers usually have have terrible to average posing (although there are a few that can exploit their transformation joints for extra articulation). I don't own any Masterpieces/3Ps myself, but I've heard they're mostly pretty good in terms of articulation.
    In any case, if you want good posability, stay away from Transformers unless you're absolutely sure the figure you want is an engineering masterpiece. You'll be better off getting Star Wars Black Series or Gundam model kits.
    -Kneeling poses are actually a FREAKING NIGHTMARE to pose.
    Trust me.
    I've learned that the hard way time after time.
    Good kneeling poses usually require many advanced joints mostly found in high-end figures, so if you want to try them out on figures with not so good leg joints, there won't be many options that actually look good.
    -The perspective of a character can change the feeling of the display.
    This goes double if you're having 2 or more figures interacting in a single display. Even a single pose can give off different intentions just by changing the figure's position on the shelf.
    For example, if you want to have 2 characters clashing, pose them on the side to make it look as they are both on equal odds.
    If you want to make a character overpower another in a duel, have one facing forward and the other facing backward to emphasize the stronger character's dominance (or the other way around, if you want to put emphasis on the weaker character's attempt to defend themselves).
    If you want a character to stand out from the rest, bring them forward and let the others become a part of the background.
    Aaaand that's my 2 cents on action figure posing. If you somehow didn't fall asleep while reading this comment, I hope my rambling helps you achieve better poses as well as loooooots of hours of fun in your quest to do so. Remember that posing figures is an art in itself, so the 2 most important rules are to have patience and fun.
    Happy posing, everyone :)

    🤣 you used my old display in your “what not to do” photos 🤣
    I’m turbine027 and it was the photo with the white bookcases and glass shelves … you’ll be glad to know that I’ve spaced out my figured a LOT since then (that photo must be from 2018 based on who’s in it 😅)
    At the time I displayed side by side with G1 and since they couldn’t move, I kept the MPs more stoic as well … Now, I’ve swapped all the G1 into alt modes and had more fun with the MPs… my TH-cam channel isn’t about toys at all, but I’m in the Facebook group Transformers Displays and of course all over tfw2005.

    Definitely a good video! Yes! I don't have that many issues posing my figures, unless I run into limitations of the figure itself, like lack of foot pivot, or waist swivel. But I'm glad someone feels the way I do! I've seen many reviewers talk about their figures and showcase them in such a stupid way that it looks like a standing brick! And as you pointed out, a bunch of figures standing on the shelf in a "out-of-the-box" pose. So annoying.
    When they could show off the stuff they're reviewing in such a way that people can actually see just how stylized and dynamic the figure can be. In my opinion, "Rotation at the elbow here" just isn't enough.
    Also, no offense, but you could try blinking in these videos once in a while. xD

    • @speakerheadTF
      @speakerheadTF  ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree. I only recommend the base standing pose over everything facing straight. I personally try to make each figure is purposefully so it shows off the bot's personality.

    A little unfair to say that a collector “doesn’t care” just because their display has no pose… space restraints create a necessity to display them that way. Don’t be ignorant, you think a person “doesn’t care” after spending all that money to collect and shelve these things? I’m glad you took steps into making a more aesthetic display that you enjoy, but others could argue you “don’t care” because you haven’t added more to your shelving to make the look of your display more cinematic.
    Great tutorial for those that can afford to display them that way though! 👍

    • @speakerheadTF
      @speakerheadTF  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe I stated it a bit unclear, which I apologize for, but let me reclarify. I'm aware that people who don't spend hours posing the hundreds of figures they have do care about the collections they have. However, and this is my personal opinion, a collection where EVERY FIGURE is in the exact same A-Stance with almost no use of any of the articulation points on the figure looks lazy. Especially to other collections I've seen where the shelves are packed but still have their figures somewhat posed. Even if you have shelves that are completely filled with figures, there are still many things you can do to the figures to make them look a little less boring. Piveting the feet outward, slightly rotating the arms/bending the elbows, rotating the chest slightly off center, even possibly a slight head tilt if the figure has that articulation available.
      Long story short, I completely see where you are coming from and was in that same exact position in the past with having no room for my collection. Even though all of my figures were crammed into one small shelf, I still did my best to make put them in natural poses rather than looking like I ripped it straight out of the box and set it only shelf. Hopefully this helps clarify my point 👍
      EDIT: One last thing I did want to mention is that when it comes to collecting and a limitation on space, you as a collector need to make the decision of whether you want a collection for the quality or the quantity. Obviously you can have a collection that's both, but most collectors put most of their focus into either having a large collection or a well displayed collection. I'm guessing most other people have a similar space issue as me considering I only live in a 1 bedroom apartment, But that's why as the owner of your own collection you must make that desion on how big you want your collection based on your display space and how you would like your collection displayed. Nobody else is going to pose your figures so that is your decision on whether you would like to pose them. My personal opinion is that it looks lazy, but once again it's my opinion. If you disagree I understand but that's what I see when I look at collections that are impressive in size, but are all standing the same way. Especially when the figures have room for posing.

      @@speakerheadTF fair enough. Thank you for you clarification on your thoughts.
      I do dig the ideas you put forth on dynamic poses to keep things interesting in a display, but if these collectors had no idea how to make their figures look better I wouldn’t say they didn’t care.

      I understand not everyone has the space to do all of these poses for their figures, but even if you only bend the elbows slightly and slightly pivoting the legs so the toes are facing away from each other that can really make a difference on how your figures are displayed. Plus your figures should be able to fit on your shelves since it's essentially still an A-stance 👍
