As one who has walked w/ the Lord for over 65 yrs. now, (& been thro incredible losses), I would like to suggest 2 books that have brought me so much comfort thro the years. I believe they’re still in print…I picked mine up (not knowing the treasures they would be for me), at Goodwill for like a $1 each. One was brand new & the other only had marks on the dedication page. By Tyndall: 1. “The One Year book of Bible Promises” (Each day has a verse & a short themed-devotion). 2. “The One Year book of Personal Prayer” (Each day has a verse; then a short (but powerful) prayer about that verse & then a quote from various people). (They’re chunky, elegant-looking books.) May God bring comfort through whatever gift you give your Mom. What a loving daughter you are to care in that way. Blessings to you both!
@@ellenyoung2754 I just googled it for you. (Wish i knew how to send you a pic, as the Promises one had 2 by that name). You want the one by Ruth Harms Calkin-cream colored w/ yellow/gold spine. & arched window view of nature in center of both books. Both are by Tyndale Pub. & hardback looks alike except for color. (Cream w/ green spine on Prayer.) Promises is at Amazon-new & a paperback used. Can’t find a new Prayer, but is used at many thrift book stores: Thriftbooks; Abe’s & others. I’ve never ordered from any of them. I hope that helps. They are such precious books to me. God bless!
This video was so good. As a baby Christian, I’m grateful for all the info you provided. Also, so glad I found the Hosanna Revival bibles because of you. They are so beautiful!
when people first become a Christian, I tell them that the best translations to start with are the NLT and/or the NIV. The translators try to make them easy to read. The ESV is more literal translation and is great for those who have studied the bible for a while. I'm glad that you went from atheism to believing in Christ. My brother is an atheist but I don't push him. He comes to me with questions about the bible. He believes that bible is true but he doesn't want to believe in God. I love my brother and hope that one day he will come to Christ.
Just because it's easy to read doesn't mean it's the right translation. KJV is the only correct translation and is the only one that kept the beauty of God's word.
Hey! I just want to say thank you for sharing. And I like that shirt on you it compliments your skin so well. And I want to encourage you to keep going no matter what life throws at you always remember that God got you. ✨
For a beginner, may I recommend my own every day carry, the CSB? The Christian Standard Bible was created to be the perfect blend of "true to the word" and "readable", and many people online do find this to be the case. Don't ask me though, I've only started a few months ago and am just up to Leviticus 7. Although the words do kinda fall into my lap compared to my NASB 1995 or my NKJV, with how mentally exhausted I tend to be, that may not be such a bad thing. Two things I have heard though are that there is a Bible out there for everyone, and the best Bible you have is the one you keep reaching for.
I'm pretty sure most Christians have at least 2 or 3 bibles I used to have 7 but the spines started to fall apart so I gave them to my mom who doesn't go to church super often so you don't have to worry about the Bible falling apart away from home
Firstly, I want to start off with saying your video is wonderful and informative for those beginning their religious/spiritual journey. Wonderfully done, and keep it up! As for markers, I use regular pencil crayons (a.k.a. coloured pencils) to mark my Bible, it's affordable, last nearly forever, and never ever bleeds through the insanely thin pages. You can use them to highlight verses or words by shading the whole section or just underlining, each carrying a different meaning. Now to my main point, I have read many different versions of the Bible (KJV, KJV 1611, NIV, ESV, NASB, Interlinear Bible, and the Geneva Bible) and have found the KJV to be the best to learn and study from because it is closest to the original text while somewhat close the modern English. Something to remember is that both God and Jesus speak in parables, which is why being close the original is better as it preserves the original meaning and context of the scriptures and is open to your personal interpretation and not from someone else perspective. Each time someone grows their perspective changes and with that also the meaning of certain verses, thus further increasing your personal spiritual growth. Note: Just like in school you always want to learn from source documents not someone else's opinion/interpretation. This will always give you truth.
I agree 100%. My very first Bible was a KJV, but it was a children's Bible. My parents got it for me when I was very young. When I was in my teens I bought a NIV Women's Study Bible, and then about ten years ago I bought a NKJV, after realizing that the NIV has entire scriptures missing. Intentionally. It wasn't a printing error. I've used that NKJV a LOT, so it's showing some wear, and I've had to repair the spine once already so I've bought a few more since then, and have gravitated back towards the KJV. As a side note, I recently got some seriously old KJV Bibles at an estate sale. They are in fair condition, and one has notes in the margins from the original owner. It is really neat to see how older Bibles were made, and how they compare to what is being made today.
I absolutely loved this video! Thank you for sharing! The Daily Grace Co. has this SUPER cool book called The Theology Handbook, and on page 94 there is an awesome chart about the translations. I used to use NIV and NKJV pretty much my whole life growing up and even into adulthood, but now that I'm nearing 40, I have been super interested in other translations. I have recently fallen in love with the NLT; it's so easy to read and just lovely to enjoy and understand. This video really reassured me about something, too! My husband and I just chose a bible for his mother for Mother's Day, and we happened to choose the Thrive Bible. I am SO glad to hear an opinion on it and I am now very excited for her to receive it! Awesome content, I'm subscribing!
NIV is a great translation for beginners as well as NLT. Get Warren Wiersbe OT and NT bible commentary, it's so interesting itself to read alone. If you are a beginner bible commentery is VERY important. John McArther NKJV one year bible is also a great choice. Also remember, a pretty bible should be your last concern, a bible you read should be your first.:)
Susannah, 71 yr. old new viewer here. Am very glad you are looking out for new Believers & their Bible Study needs! W/ all love & respect, I would suggest that you do some serious research on Sarah Young “Jesus Calling”. (A lot of the info online has been scrubbed, so go deeper.) I too liked the devotional & gave as gifts when it first came out. But when I kept having little checks in my spirit & then ?’d some of her Biblical soundness, I decided to find out more about her. When you learn of her New Age/psychic background story about writing “Jesus Calling”, I doubt you’ll recommend it again. I know I don’t. 🫶🏼

Continue being rooted in the Word. God is so faithful and good.
Hi as a baby Christian also, can you tell me why her devotions are not biblical? I tried to google but I didn't even know what to search and couldn't find anything..
Agreed. Sarah Young is essentially speaking as if she is God. That didn’t sit well with me. Any book that speaks as God is a red flag. Anything that adds to or takes away from Gods word is not okay.
The NASB is closer to the word for word translation of the original Bible manuscripts than the KJV.. I’d just keep in mind they are both good translations but anyone should always strive to graduate from a thought for thought translation to a word for word translation especially to study the Word of God.
I’d say if anyone is considering Jesus Calling, pray about it, read a few pages for yourself and see if it resonates. It changed my life personally. She uses scripture and writes it so it seems like Jesus is talking to you. It’s not her own words. This devotional is the main reason I revisited my relationship with Christ and have been getting more and more intimate ever since. 💖
Very Good! Am sort of a King James Bible only. Although if you are a beginner, NLT and ESV will be fine. Just sure there are good study Bibles. The those five books you recommend to read, are my favourites
The thumbnail shows her surrounded by books and materials and yet can she produce a single piece of evidence that anything spiritual or supernatural in the bible is true?
The evidence is all around you, you just need to look. Its also not my job to convince you that God is real, so if that is what you are looking for-a faith debate-I'm not interested. This video was about my favourite things that have helped me in my faith walk. Not to prove the legitimacy of my faith to you. Have a great day!
@@susannahfriesenofficial "The evidence is all around you, you just need to look." If that's your logic then it stands to reason that if God made everything He made the bad as well as the good. "Its also not my job to convince you that God is real" It's also not every "believer's" job too - since no one can answer my initial request. My point was that you are surrounded by many resources for your faith yet they don't help at all.
@@darz3829 They help me and other people who believe. Concise theology is a good one as well. There is also a book called The Case for Christ which you can also look into which dives into proving the existence of Christ.
if one believe that there is a painter behind every painting, a potter behind every finished vase, a chef being every meal at a restaurant…then surely, one could step outside, see the birds, the sky, the vegetation, and the human beings and know that there is a creator. For even Leonardo Di Vinci lived before you and i drew our breath, and we know without a doubt he was real, just based upon the evidence of his paintings. yet, we also, question if there is a God when we see how human life is created. it’s a human anomaly that i will never understand.
also, she might not be able to prove it, but if you were to do some research about archaeological discoveries, you would learn that a lot of what has occurred in the bible has been proven to be true. its only the things that infantile human minds can’t grasp, like noah’s ark, Moses parting the red sea, Jesus rising from the dead, that we quarrel with internally.
