- One of the reasons stopping people getting a dashcam is the complicated wiring around the windshield to the fuse box and wiretapping for power. Well, I found a better way to get power to the dashcam just by tapping the power from the rearview mirror area. I'll share what I learned so it should help others on the Toyota/Lexus vehicles. Other vehicles will likely have similar setup but different connectors.
This video was filmed on a 2019 Lexus RX 350L AWD. I have installed on my other GS vehicle and it's been working great also.
Please verify that the connector works for your vehicle given it may differ in some models.

If you aren't too technically versed, I would still suggest finding an audio shop or mechanic for this installation.

Works on my 2022 Lexus ES300h. I wish the wire of the connector that plugs into the dimming mirror’s plug is longer, say 3”. I had no choice but to disconnect the mirror’s plug from the mounting clip to fit the adapter and wires within the cavity so that the cover would go back on.
THANK YOU! I bought this dongle and when I went to install it on my Lexus IS, my brain melted because I was looking at the back of the mirror and didn't think to pop those covers off. Just installed mine and it went super smooth.

Thank you for this video. The installation was extremely similar for my 2020 UX 250h! I can confirm this adapter and the trim pieces shown are correct for the UX.

Put a dongar on my 2017 Lexus RX F Sport. Getting all kinds of error codes (cruise control, auto headlight, crash prevention). The usb power and mirror work though. What gives?
Not getting any errors on our 2019 RX L. Clear to codes and see if they come back.
I have RC350, the rearview mirror have two connectors , in my car the one on the left is 12 pin and the one on the right is 10 pin, why you choose the right? what was the reason, I planning to get the 12 pin because it is available , the 10 pin out of stock .
I haven't tried that 12 pin given all the specs indicated the 10 pin one. Let us know if you did any hacks to get it to work.
@@netman88 I don't have any info. on the specs of the 10 and 12 pin, I thought they all same voltage, since you have info. on the 10 pin specs, I would go with the 10 pin, I see comment below that there RC350 did not work, but he didn't say he plugged the 10 pin or 12 pin.
Is it working fine with the dual dash cam?
If you connect the rear dash cam to your rexing is it working?
It should work. I don't have a dual dash cam to test with though.
Late reply but in my 22 is350 it works and supplies enough power for dual camera

You will have to fuse-tap for that.
This won't affect of the mirror dimming or rain sensing features?
I didn't have any problems with it.
All it's doing is paralleling the circuit. The mirror doesn't draw that much power (amperage). I've done this before in my 2018 Lexus LS500 with no issues to operations of mirror functionality.
I have a 2016 Lexus GS-F and a 2019 Lexus LX570 on the way. On the Dongar web site they offer a "10-pin Type B Toyota" plug, and a 12-pin Toyota plug. Do you happen to know which I need for my vehicles? Thanks.
Looking at the Dongar technology website, I think you need the 10-pin type B.

Can I tap into the Donger to get power to a radar detector?
If the connector is right, it should work.
Do you know if it’s okay to tap a radar detector to the connection? Or will this cause an overload?
If just radar or dashcam is probably fine. Doing both, I don't know.
@@netman88 true. Just got a radar detector and the wire isn’t that long so I’m going to have to remove the dash cam mirror tap. Not trying to ruin my power mirror. Also thanks for the fast reply!

Interesting, I would like the RC would work. Did you use the rain sensor connector? I installed the same setup on my 2020 GS 350 F Sport and it works great.

Does the rav4 have the rain sensor? It will need to share that connector for power.

@@netman88 Ouch! I thought it did because the garage buttons work even when parked with the engine off! So, it doesn't get continuous power supply enough to keep the dashcam powered?

Yes
Will it work for Lexus HS250H 2010 model
Nope. But you don’t need the adapter. Just run the wire along the top of windshield, inside the side cover, and under the steering wheel to the USB plug or cigarette plug. Remove the side cover by prying out a couple of small covers to expose a couple of hex screws underneath. It’s really easy.

Likely 10-pin Type B Toyota is what you need.

No need to fuse tap if you are using this method. Fuse tap if you want the camera to record even when vehicle is off.

If there’s a rain sensor or auto dimming mirrors, then it should work
How about for 2022 rav4 xle?
It should work. I just installed it on the 2022 Toyota Camry SE and it works fine.
