I passed RFT a few days ago, aged 47 with zero preparation except for a pizza and 4 beers the night before. How did I pass? Because I'm not a complete fannie.
I appreciate how you use available means like a backpack to strengthen the body. It's natural and beneficial, you don't have to go to the gym and lift weights to strengthen the body, just use common sense 🙂
I failed my first ever RFT in phase 2 due to injury and actually came off and didn't complete it, which was slightly embarrassing for myself, really effected my 2k run time. More so a lesson for myself, don't go into something like this with an Injury, it will end up in failure and in my case worsening said injury. However after a few months of physio and rehab and taking the tips from this video, I passed comfortably the 2nd time.
Great stuff Sam, thanks for the heads up. Start date 15th May so enough time to utilise these to prepare myself. Tbh I think I'll be alright in my current situation, but never a bad thing to get into a better position! Cheers again mate
@@Lincoln_Osiris I got my date mid February mate. Yes I'm hoping the recruitment portal gets resolved too. I got the email advising it was down, but luckily enough I'd already received my joining instructions and kit list etc.
When I served we did a bft every month as regimental policy and a cft every quarter. Failure was not really tolerated and the PTIs were given cart blanch to get you fit.
Well I’m prepped was in rugby at uni and running 10 mins for the 1.5 mile ( my usual night run I go after gym for about 5 miles in 35 minutes) already squat 160kg at 74kg body weight and gym since I was 16 (I’m 26 now) also got plated weights up to 50kg in a camping rucksack for about 8 months now every 2 days. I only decided to join about a year ago but I’m coming well prepared so I’ve just been going to my daily job and training hard. I’ll be applying after Christmas this year !
Hi Sam. Lovely video, I'll be adding these into my walks! Can you get us a clearer shot of the RMT standards role based at the end? My training buddy is doing his soon and is trying to get a clearer picture. Also, I'm training for intake assessments at Pirbright and found out there are several standards depending on the role you are applying for. How do I confirm those so my training goals are right and the timing of my assessments is sooner (rather than waiting for the higher levels and then the risk is my age causes problems).
I joined the infantry at age 17 plus 2 months. No preparation whatsoever. I did use to cycle about a lot, walk and run. If you are what I would term a 'couch potato' stuffing Pringles down your gob every night then I think you may need fitness preparation.
Hi Sam, I’m looking to join the army, am I right in thinking these tests will be part of my tests to get into the army? Or is it only for serving members to make sure their fitness is up to scratch?
Why is it called RFT - Role Fitness Test. Does that mean certain roles may require more or less than this? I'm looking to be a mechanic. Is that to the same fitness standard?
Thanks for all the tips! im starting for the royal signals april 3rd, but they said phase 1 is different for each regiment so do you have any tips for the royal signals phase 1?
It’s broadly very similar, just listen to what you are told is the important thing. I may see you in phase 2, if you see me first don’t be frightened to come and say hello.
Best tip for everyone who are really wanting to do the army just jog 3 hours a day while you wait for the assessment centre slow deep breaths and chill then your be fine doing the 20 meter shuffle makes your legs strong and stronger
Hi awesome video as usual. I have a careers related question. I know before I fully commit that I don’t want a long career in the army. I already know that I want to be in for around 5 years, as i think it will a great way get into something I enjoy doing, and I really like the aspects of army life and being able to learn a trade. Do you thinks it’s still worth joining while knowing I will want to leave after 4-5 years? Thanks :)
Hi, I was wondering if I can join the Army if I am a fussy eater (nothing with a face) hate any form of physical exercise, hate camo as It makes me look fat and often wonder about my gender? Or do you think the RAF would be more suited to me. Many thanks.
You will be hungry enough that you will eat anything at times. As long as it’s not an intolerance try and overcome you eating issues and you will be fine.
Hi I have always been a fussy eater but once you get there you’ll just eat what you’re given , I always go straight back to 3 takeaways a day on my days off xd
@@MilitaryFitness thanks mate means alot as i am waiting for my assessment centre date i jus turned 16 n im very fit and in shape but always have been fussy with alot of foods so jus abit worried abt that
I have a question as an American I’ve always been curious about? As you are a federal employee of Great Britain being part of the British army are you and your fellow British soldiers still pissed off about the founding fathers of America being former British employees and some being British veterans themselves committing insurrection, treason, murdering thousands of British soldiers and having an out of control Boston tea party losing a lot of king george the thirds tea? Also are they still wanted criminals awaiting trial for these crimes? If so I have bad news for you as an agent of Great Britain. The founding fathers are long gone. Not even one is still alive not even the ring leader of the illegal army, George Washington. If they were wanted for these crimes they got away with it and lived in freedom in America. As a matter of fact George Washington, the ring leader became leader of America living a lavish lifestyle after his illegal British crimes, a former British colonel himself.
I went through the army prep course at college, got a hernia before selection. Did Physio then returned the army prep course for year 2.....untill I found out I have no cartilage in my knee. Trained for 2 years to not get in. Doesn't mean I can't support you guys, train hard and you'll get it 👍

Just smashed out my RFT - it's not too bad, quite enjoyed it - but I am a bit of a PT freak 😂
😂😂well done mate
I was worried i would have to the same fitness standard as a bulky para for a lawyer in AGS ALS, graph at the end is useful.
I am glad you found it helpful. Good luck with selection
Both new tests are piss easy though might just be those scaly backs failing

Your recruiter should be able to give you an accurate standards requirement.
In my country our army hasn't had much modern equipment so the training is more harder and harsh.
Some countries training are much harder for sure💪🏻💪🏻
Witch cantrees that Bru?
I thought the 1.5 mile run was phased out in terms of the bleep test for Royal signals

It can be a bit different in certain cap badges

Hi Sam, I’m looking to join the army, am I right in thinking these tests will be part of my tests to get into the army? Or is it only for serving members to make sure their fitness is up to scratch?
The RFT is for serving soldiers. You will do the bleep test, med ball throw and the mid thigh pull
That’s a relief haha, knew I would struggle with 40kg on, thanks for the reply

I certainly think it is. It’s good to have a well rounded cv when you go for jobs and also a bit of life experience that many people will never get.
they wont let you leave after 5yr if theyve taught u a trade- point less giving u 2yr trade training and no return from you👍👍

No, but I do have videos on the fitness test you do at the assessment centre. It’s a lot easier
