  • In a video outlining new fitness standards for its revamped annual fitness test, now known as the Role Fitness Test Soldier, the British Army shows what you'll have to do to keep up with their "close combat personnel." Is it harder than the new American version?
The tests ensures that soldiers have the physical ability to safely and satisfactorily complete essential tasks in their specific role. The tests are objective, job-related, age and gender-free physical fitness standards.
The Role Fitness Test Soldier (RFT (S)) is specifically for Regular Ground Close Combat personnel. There are six specific elements of the RFT (S).
    1. Loaded March-(for infantry) 4km tab with 40kg pack in 50 minutes, followed by further 2km with 25kg in 15 minutes. (For 16AAB/Para) march times are shorter--km tab with 40kg pack in 35 minutes, followed by further 2km with 25kg in 12 minutes and 30seconds.
    2. Fire and movement-20 7.5 meter tactical bounds controlled by a PTI, followed by 15m crawl and 15m sprint in 55 seconds.
    3. Casualty Drag- 110kg bag pulled over 20m in 35 seconds
    4. Water can carry-Simulates moving with a stretcher. Carry two 22kg cans over 240m in 4 minutes
    4. Vehicle CASEVAC- Simulates casualty evacuation- 70kg lift, hold for 3 seconds.
    6. Repeated Lift & Carry- Carry 20kg bags 20 times over a 30 meter distance in 14 minutes

These test are light years beyond any US Military test in terms of actual practicality to real world task.

The hardest part is carrying the 40kg at such a slow, slow pace over 4km. It is torture.

This is 'basic', how long does it take a battalion to cycle through this? There was absolutely nothing wrong with the sit ups, push ups, 2.4 k run and the 8 mile TAB.

Apart from it not testing the Bodys Practical core 7 Movements in an Relevant or realistic Environment. Yes you can get by with Running and Tabbing most days but Strength and Conditioning is the Reformed Program much more Longevity and if practiced properly alongside Running with and without loads its an optimal way to create a Robust, strong,Fast Warroir athletes.

@@mattbye9125 this. It's about time the military modernised it's fitness requirements. Push ups and sit ups can be an ok measure of general fitness, but in reality it's absolutely meaningless. And whilst running is great, I'd rather have/be a physically strong and powerful soldier that runs a 10:30 minute 1.5 Mile than a 9 stone drip that can do 100 push ups in a minute and run 1.5 miles in 7 and a half minutes but can barely pick up his Bergen.

I'm a current PTI of 10 years, the only good thing about these new tests are the fact that it allows for a better and more specific training programme, however the standards required in the tests are pathetic and far too easily achievable, which is a shame but understandable given that it allows a higher number of females to meet infantry standards

I was led to believe this was developed with PTIs

    • @kimwilliams8280
      @kimwilliams8280 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@ANTHONYX849 it was developed with the pti's and it has nothing to do with females joining the infantry. It has been created as a gender neutral and AGE neutral test. Which means you don't get to carry less or given more time just because your older. Where as before in a PFA, timing was based not only on gender but age also. AFT 8 Mike tab is irrelevant in this day and age, we ain't gonna march to war for eight miles anymore. Longest an insurgent tab is likely to be is 4 or 5k, hence the change, plus the tests are more relevant to what we actually do in the field. PFA situps were a joke any way, it's all hip flexors nothing to do with corp. Pressups....slot of squaddies can do press ups, but can they pull their full weight, daysack rifle, webbing etc over a wall or through a building window, hence pull up test. It's about time the tests were actually fit for purpose.

If you maintain your upper body strength, fitness and stamina levels through out the year, these should be relatively straight forward.
I'm not saying they'd be easy, because they're not meant to be, but by maintaining a fitness standard they'll be a lot easier than going in to them 'cold' with less risk of injury.

Well I’ve done the old bft and cft , assault course etc back when I was in the job, I’m 52 now train every day by means of circuit training/weights and cycling, I’d like to think I should be able to have a real good go at the new tests.

I love the comments by people who say easy lol when in real life eg war zone do all that with bullets flying around your head mortars landing around you taking shipping containers 40 feet in the air people screaming begging for a medic or there mum because they know there going to die strangle in ever war I've been in they either cry out for god or there mum when you've carried your best friend over your shoulder with dead back to a chopper because you promised him you would if it should ever happen civvies don't have a clue it looks easy but in real life it's something that all the training in the world can still never get you a 100 percent prepared thank god you have the only thing you need your comrades

the pft run which was always the test of your basic fitness in all regiments ie the 1.5 miles run has been cut too 1.25 miles oe 2km at 16AA Bde you where expected to run in under 9mins 30 secs for the mile and half its now 8mins 15secs i think over 2km which in comparison is 9mins 54 over a mile and half 400 meters shorter and also around 4 seconds slower per 400m run which is well off the pace standards have dropped in the cardio side of things

Edit: I also run the british army advanced combat fitness test1 for my plt and not including my self thes only 4 out 34 troops who can pass it, I'm first everytime with a time of 11min 20sec on average

Again I ain't lying I have no reason to and what would i achieve out of it nothing at all. So beleive me or dont your choice.
