Pumpkin Head, known or not, followed a Shinto spiritual belief system: a soul that we belittled and done wrong by man becomes a demon, in death, and a karmic figure of retribution.
Pumpkinhead is EASILY one of the most underrated horror movies of the 1980s and the practical effects that Stan Winston used to create this monster are STILL unmatched even today.
It includes one of my favorite scenes in horror. Seeing things outside of windows is common in horror but the way they did it was perfect. The group is in the cabin and one of the guys is sitting on a couch next to a window and talking with a girl at the bar. She turns away just in time for Pumpkinhead to walk right by the window past the totally oblivious couch guy and turns back right as it passes out of view. This was just a serious departure from the trope as usually you only see a scary face covered in shadow or see something move off in the distance but not here, they just straight up show Pumpkinhead in all his glory walking by our meal for the evening. I'll always remember that scene.
Not sure about unmatched, I think the Thing did an amazing job before it, but as far as single one-design monsters go, it beats many comparable horror movie monsters including the Xenomorph from the original Alien. It's a very clean and functional design and further proof that you can't beat practical effects when it comes to a badass movie monster.
Honestly, my favorite scene from the whole film, was Lance Henrikson's character trying to take it back from the Witch an exclaiming "God Damn you!" "He *already* has!.....He Already Has......" It's just such a powerful line for me that it is the thing that sticks with me the most.
@Nothing In Particular The supernatural could easily be something we don't yet just understand. I'm more freaked by demons than aliens, though that's for more personal reasons. We are all frightened by different things, some from bugs, others from closed spaces, others from heights and others from animals or people. We all can enjoy a good thrill from a good horror movie though, which is one thing that binds probably all of Roa's fans together.

@@Lakefront_Khan Hey m8, give him a break plz. The main point of these videos is to explain how things would work in *our* reality, where demonic stuff doesn't affect it as far as we know. I know the REC movies stated after some time that it was demonic ((tho in the first one it was just a possibility)), but if he just keeps acknowledging that things are indeed supernatural all the time, there's no point in explaninh the biolpgy of it :P
Incredible cliches and nonsense aside, this movie was pretty cool. Especially the link aspect, always thought that was interesting. I remember after seeing this movie when I was like 6, I went to play outside in my large backward. Unknown to me, it was going to storm, so while playing, a very strong wind picked up. Remembering that a powerful gust is the calling card of Pumpkinhead, I ran back inside. 😅
Even if it was less science-y I still enjoy your commentary on it a ton concerning its features and even informative tidbits about spinal injuries and such. Side note, this movie scared the hell out of me as a kid too.
It had been so long since I last saw this movie I had to look up the ending scene. I'd actually remembered it as Billy becoming the next Pumpkinhead but it was Ed as you note. I thought that would be a better twist if the lost innocent would be the next host as the ultimate price for the one summoning the demon in order avenge the lost innocent.

That is where this channel has me hooked. It fascinates me. Thanks for being here and doing these videos. I'm seriously considering joining your $5 Patreon.xx

I remember watching a movie about the Headless Horseman and the Leprechaun Do you think you can cover both of these two guys They are demonic and evil in thier movies
In my experience, when guys like Joel have friends, said friends are really stupid, like “How can you breathe and walk at the same time?” level stupid.
And by the by... Pumpkinhead=One of my all time favorite cult classic monster movies. This is part of my childhood that I hold dear. My mom and I had it rough when I was really young. Totally her doing as she was an alcoholic and I had to help raise myself lol. But she would just run us off to a motel for about a month or so, if CPS came sniffing around. And we would always watch the horror movies on HBO. This is where I met Pumpkinhead for the first time. So just thank you for this, sincerely.
I loved this movie and the second one after it. I wish we had a third movie, possibly set in a city. I kinda want to see what would it would do in a city and not a small, isolated town.
The situation with Joel is probably pretty common at this age. This is the weekend they can't ignore afterwards. It's easy to be friends with someone for a long time before realizing they're scary. Especially if you're young when you first meet.
Yeah until recently my friend group had a guy like Joel. Just an all around arrogant douche, and nobody in the friend group or that we introduced him to liked him. The only reason we tolerated him is because our de facto leader insisted, but even then that eventually wasn’t enough. Still, he was in our friend group for a solid 3 years.
I constantly forget this movie exists, but holyshit did I love it when I was younger. Now I need to look it up to watch it again. So hyped to see you do a video on this one.
Pumpkin head may look like that but in the second movie is actually a disfigured boy that has been bullyed that got tortured by a group of teens that hated how the boy looked like and the teens chained him and dropped into a bottomless pit that might be the hell that made the boy turn into the monster that made him the vengeful demon as known to be the pumpkin head that we all love
This is THE most terrifying creature in all of horror film history hands down..and I was about your age when I seen pumpkin head fr the first time and you’re right scared the shyt of me ..and nice work
I love these videos because of the in depth analysis and the little facts like the spine injury because that’s something I never knew and could be good knowledge for the future
I love this movie. For years I had a cardboard Punkinhead display that I got from a local video store. They were always good sports for letting us have movie posters as well.
Did you know theirs also other demons just like pumpkin head? Demons of lust, wrath, greed, and so on. Rage/Vengence which is pumpkin heads task. It's REALLY hilarious. Loved the video about pumpkin head. i loved this video when i was a kid.
I also LOVED Pumpkinhead as a kid! I remember going to the video store and renting the VHS again and again until we got a VCR that could record it off the tv😂
This is my favorite movie monster from when I was a kid! I also saw this when I was about 5 or 6 years old, and I in turn also love monsters and creatures now! (Hence why I'm subscribed and watching your channel =D) And yes it did scare me as well lol.
Also! How to kill Pumpkin Head: First Film: Kill the summoner (probably the most effective way) 2nd Film: Shoot the mf demon into the iron mine (and it’ll blow up?? Idk that movie was a tragedy of a tragedy) 3rd Film: Have the Summoner burn herself alive in a crematorium (because reasons) 4th Film: Shoot the summoner. Again. Also your boyfriend the Summoner can Grab the demon and take a nice fall down a random well. Because *why not*!
People have friends like Joel because, for the most part, people are stupid. That is the only way to explain it. I mean, it's not like Joel or people like him make any effort to even pretend that they aren't douche lords so it can't be that others aren't aware. It has to be stupidity. With that out of the way, I'd like to say that this video is awesome. All of your videos are awesome. As far as I'm aware, you're the only person doing things like this and it's highly entertaining.
I'm a bit late stumbling into this one, but this was my favorite horror/monster movie growing up! Sure, it gave me nightmares for weeks because I was afraid of everything, but I mean, LOOK AT THAT GUY! I would pretend to be Pumpkinhead because I thought he was so cool looking lol, glad someone else knows this movie exists and seems to have enjoyed it as much as I did!
Now this is a story of a good man named Ed Left his son for a moment, returned found him dead Recalls a tale as a boy that he was told of an evil witch, so wicked, so old Seeks a farmers advice he will not give His oldest son knows just where the witch lived He took Ed there but refused to go in The boy knew what was about to begin She has the power to avenge the dead It cost your soul now come with me Ed I'm gonna take you where your body will lie I'm gonna take you there my friend I'm gonna show you where your life will end I'm gonna bring you here again Dig up this grave, the old lady said The thing we need lies here dormant sleeping with the dead You understand what you ask of me Not even death can set your soul free I cast this curse and you will find An evil darkness deep inside your vengeful mind God damn you to hell, he could not restrain He already has son the witch did explain I'm gonna take you where your body will lie I'm gonna take you there my friend I'm gonna show you where your life will end I'm gonna bring you here again

Ah Pumpkinhead. I remember back in '04 when I was 9, this scared the absolute shit out of me during a Halloween marathon with my friends at the time.
Hands down one of the most underrated horror movies, first and second will always be a classic
I love this channel. I only found it this week and I am loving it. My husband and I love movies and we love to analyse them, though more me than him. Most people are like "it's not that deep, why does it matter" when discussing aspects of movies and sure, it doesnt really matter, but I am a very curious person and I like to think more in to things and figure them out. That is where this channel has me hooked. It fascinates me. Thanks for being here and doing these videos. I'm seriously considering joining your $5 Patreon.xx
Yes Pumpkinhead one of my fave creatures ever nice one.
Can you do Dog Soldiers next please ?.
Respect dude keep up the epic work Roanoke 😃👍🏻⭐️.
Was considering this and I think I'll have to!
Dog soldiers was bad ass
I was convinced that people forgot about this movie. This was one of my favorites growing up so thank you!
Oh what was that?...oh...oh yeah hes right here.
Doom guy would like to have a word with you about your demon problem.
This is basically a reaver to the slayer
Haha
@@RoanokeGaming honestly you should do him or the Khan Maykr for your next video
Yeah but bringing in the Doomslayer into a monster battle short of kaiju is like playing Rock Paper Scissors and pulling out the finger gun to win instantly
I remember watching a movie about the Headless Horseman and the Leprechaun
Do you think you can cover both of these two guys
They are demonic and evil in thier movies
Loving these vids! Hoping you do more bro. Keep em up.
there will absolutely be more as long as I am still 6 feet above the ground!
GOD. I absolutely love this movie. Lance was amazing as Ed, and the way he grieves his son is so heart breaking.
I’m glad my suggestion came to fruition!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Roanoke Gaming very much, thank you!
In my experience, when guys like Joel have friends, said friends are really stupid, like “How can you breathe and walk at the same time?” level stupid.
Love this movie got me good when I was little
simpler times eh?
One of my favorite horror movies. This is on my list of horror movies to watch in October
When I was kid, Pumpkinhead was always a distant relative of the Xenomorph from Alien in my head canon. I always thought they looked a bit similar.
One of my favorites! Very underrated.
It really is!
My grandma forced me to watch this when I was 5-6! I feel your pain. It changed me forever, it's one of my favorites lol
This a damn good movie not perfect but still very enjoyable, glad to see it recognized.
I loved this movie and the second one after it. I wish we had a third movie, possibly set in a city. I kinda want to see what would it would do in a city and not a small, isolated town.
There's like 4 or 5 films but really only the first two are good
Cody Mcdaniel There’s more? Damn, I’ve never heard of them.
I love that I am still finding your vids I haven;t seen yet! You are a MACHINE!
Irony would be if Roanoke makes more money from YT then he does from his degree
This is one of my favorite monster movies, I just love the practical effects 😃
This pumpkinhead look way to much from aliens
I think it was designed by the same guy
Theres a reason!
It is a modified xenomorph suit xD
Pumpkin head may look like that but in the second movie is actually a disfigured boy that has been bullyed that got tortured by a group of teens that hated how the boy looked like and the teens chained him and dropped into a bottomless pit that might be the hell that made the boy turn into the monster that made him the vengeful demon as known to be the pumpkin head that we all love
This is THE most terrifying creature in all of horror film history hands down..and I was about your age when I seen pumpkin head fr the first time and you’re right scared the shyt of me ..and nice work
Oh god oh god oh god I’m going to enjoy this
Thanks professor
Ayyyyy hope you do man!

I do love the “how do you stop it section” Its nice to hear your thoughts on it my dude
Speaking of the Xenomorph would you consider doing a video on it, as well as the infested from Warframe. Love the videos.
I love these videos because of the in depth analysis and the little facts like the spine injury because that’s something I never knew and could be good knowledge for the future
Pumpkin head is one of those rare movies I can watch over and over
Its all good. I grew up watching John Carpenter's "The Thing" shortly after playing the game.
I saw this movie as a child. It was indeed scary.
Yes I agree I was a child and this scared me and got me addicted to monster movies.
Alternate title: Human turned vegetable
I know pumpkins are fruits
Um... what? How are pumpkins fruits? Don’t they grow from a vine?
@@squidkiller1022 grapes do too
They are?
@@markboyle1843 Are grapes also considered fruit? I always thought things like that had a declassification. I could definitely be wrong though...
@@squidkiller1022 I’m a little late but they are technically both. Biologically they are a fruit, culinarily they are a vegetable.
I grew up on Pumpkin Head and Pet Cemetery. Pumpkin was our favorite antagonist. He sure knows how to preserve bullets.
KINDA RANDOM STORY:
so in one Minecraft server I was being a sword for hire, and called myself pumpkinhead as a nod to this movie
I love this movie. For years I had a cardboard Punkinhead display that I got from a local video store. They were always good sports for letting us have movie posters as well.
Maybe pumpkin head was killing Ed’s friend to make ed suffer rather than taking direct revenge for the child.
well those werent eds friends, those were the teens he wanted destroyed
I think you meant Joel's friends.
Yeah I’m ment Joel, bit of a mix up there.
What about Bunt?
This takes me back. I used to have a 6' cardboard theater display of Pumpkinhead that a friend managed to get me.

Did you know theirs also other demons just like pumpkin head? Demons of lust, wrath, greed, and so on. Rage/Vengence which is pumpkin heads task. It's REALLY hilarious. Loved the video about pumpkin head. i loved this video when i was a kid.
"It will just walk to a group and grab people"
What a frikkin madlad
Pumpkin head doesnt care about personal bonds! haha
I also LOVED Pumpkinhead as a kid! I remember going to the video store and renting the VHS again and again until we got a VCR that could record it off the tv😂
Pumpkin head looks like a rejected Xenomorph design.
Edit: oh shit, I said this before the end of the video, no wonder.
No, it does not. It looks completely different, not "rejected" either, it's it's own thing. Not Xeno
This was one of my favorite scary movies growing up 😭
You should do a creeper versus pumpkin head who would win. Or do a space marine versus a spartan
Might have to get back to VS here soon!
Creeper, obviously xD Creeper can blow the entire thing to pieces
I'm so glad I'm new to this channel. This is the only movie that freaked me out. I'd bailed if I got comfy and this shot popped up.
Sure someone has pointed it out by now that in the closet scene Pumpkinhead knew he was in the closet the whole time and was just toying with him.
This is my favorite movie monster from when I was a kid! I also saw this when I was about 5 or 6 years old, and I in turn also love monsters and creatures now! (Hence why I'm subscribed and watching your channel =D) And yes it did scare me as well lol.
Thing looks like a damn Genestealer from Warhammer 40k
I also thought this, I think it's the face that reminds me of one.
I remember seeing this movie. I loved it then and still love it now.
Also! How to kill Pumpkin Head:
First Film: Kill the summoner (probably the most effective way)
2nd Film: Shoot the mf demon into the iron mine (and it’ll blow up?? Idk that movie was a tragedy of a tragedy)
3rd Film: Have the Summoner burn herself alive in a crematorium (because reasons)
4th Film: Shoot the summoner. Again. Also your boyfriend the Summoner can Grab the demon and take a nice fall down a random well. Because *why not*!
Havent seen this movie since I was a kid. Still as terrifying as I remember. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Now this is a story of a good man named Ed
Left his son for a moment, returned found him dead
Recalls a tale as a boy that he was told
of an evil witch, so wicked, so old
Seeks a farmers advice he will not give
His oldest son knows just where the witch lived
He took Ed there but refused to go in
The boy knew what was about to begin
She has the power to avenge the dead
It cost your soul now come with me Ed
I'm gonna take you where your body will lie
I'm gonna take you there my friend
I'm gonna show you where your life will end
I'm gonna bring you here again
Dig up this grave, the old lady said
The thing we need lies here dormant sleeping with the dead
You understand what you ask of me
Not even death can set your soul free
I cast this curse and you will find
An evil darkness deep inside your vengeful mind
God damn you to hell, he could not restrain
He already has son the witch did explain
I'm gonna take you where your body will lie
I'm gonna take you there my friend
I'm gonna show you where your life will end
