@Watch Fixerupper literally everything Google gives you on why they rumble says it's the exhaust. It's the same way 180 degree headers on v8s get rid of rumble. Pulse timing in the exhaust.
Watch Fixerupper the burble originates from the firing order and boxer nature yeah, but up the exhaust setup is what let’s that noise comes out. If you’ve got equal length headers, the pulses don’t meet in the way that creates that classic sound. So yeah, the exhaust doesn’t create the classic boxer sound, but it IS what let’s that sound out

Yep the rasp knew it would be!! Been there had that. Best exhaust set up which took a lot of trial and error... Tomei Uel headers Tomei over pipe AVO 5”front pipe and Invidia N2... subi rumble no rasp👌🏽
Pete Campbell yup, this is a quick and easy fix right here. Moog was correct, it’s to heat the cats up as fast as possible for emissions testing but it doesn’t make a huge amount of difference in the real world and sounds awful
@@helplmchoking It dumps loads of fuel into the engine which could kill the catalytic converters sooner, foul spark plugs, and cause excess carbon buildup. It's junk. Also it heats up the engine really quickly which is a bad situation if you have forged pistons, but the FA20 non turbos are probably cast.
Violetta yeah that’s why I said emissions testing specifically, not emissions in general. If you’re testing a car for a set drive from a cold start, getting the cats up to operating temps as soon as possible is an easy, low cost solution to bring down the average emissions for that run, and hugely helpful with such tight targets. It doesn’t help anything last longer, but the goal is to pass the test not increase longevity
Ayy! I was one of those to write a "headers-and-a-tune" comment. Glad you've read through the comments, not necessarily mine, but still got the idea for cool mythbusting. The 86 is my dream car and I've soaked myself with all kinds cool of trivia regarding them even though I can't afford one. I've driven them and I've loved it. The dip is supposedly there for emissions and fuel mileage reasons. Supposedly, the header should straighten out the power and torque bands a bit, not necessarily give huge gains on peak power, but having the power and torque bands more linear it gives you the sensation of having more power under your foot. This should make accelerating and keeping the car at speed feel livelier, definitely take it to the track again to see if you feel the difference. The tune itself will probably add 10-20 horsepower, so not much. Can't wait for the next episode, meanwhile I'll keep restoring my '97 Corolla EE101 1.3 3-door, to rid the years of wear on it. It's not much but it's all I can afford. It just got partly painted at a professional and will get detailed in near future. Also got the Super Turbo poster in the mail recently, love it! See ya!

The torque dip is because of the Toyota cams. The small cam is for idle quality and response while the big cams make power. The duration split is big so when the switch happens there's the dip.

You can quite literally see the difference in port sizes from the oe manifold to the ultrex one. I got a gruppe S header and made sure to measure the primary runner size from oe to aftermarket. If it wasn't the same or at least bigger. It didn't go on the car. That said a tune by itself helps alleviate most the torque dip. The header flow to over pipe is the second clue. I ran a single tip hks v2 exhaust with a factory resonator and it sounded good and was rated under 92 dB under full title
