What do you think of this first look at TopSpin 2K25 gameplay?
I know ppl complaining about the gameplay but I will take this over ao and tennis world tour any day of the week.

the graphics look bad from close, but from the gameplay camera they look good. And the gameplay looks very good, way better than AO2 and Tiebroken
The game is not next gen in terms of graphics but i like the gameplay and having brought all of the Tennis games on this gen i will be adding this game to my library on 26 th April.
The game is a remastered Topspin 4.
It looks like 70 years old guys playing tennis in my local club. So slow... Even at twice the speed, it doesn't look good in youtube. This game is gonna fail hard because of this lack of punch, it's not TopSpin2K25 but TopSpin1970. Also: surfaces have no difference in bounce, and it's the same spin everywhere for every player. For a game called "top spin", it's pathetic.

I agree... there are so much things wrong that were already wrong in topspin 4: low speed of ball, ridicolous low depth shots (like amateur ones), weird movements. Honestly, after having Federer himsellf to record his gameplay into digital info, the result is very poor.
No progression from Topspin 4 after all these years and two console generations later. Looks and plays so similar. Just rallying from the baseline with hardly any net play
Looks very much like a PS4 game to me. This game looks like what an actual Top Spin 5 would have looked like if it came out when you would have expected it (somewhere around 2014-16). Also seems very microtransaction-heavy from what I've seen. I half expect them to try selling individual players as MTs. I want to be excited about this game but I'm a little concerned.

YESSSS THEY FINALLY HAVE A MORE ACCURATE FEDERER SERVE ANIMATION! The one thing I hated in TS4 was Federer's generic serve animation.
The animation is much worse than in Topspin 4! 😂

I think the gameplay seems very good. But the ball speed seems slow, probably because the gameplay but for a viewer its strange this pace.
That's because the 2 players do not know how to use timing shots and distancing
If you've played Topspin 4, then you should get that this guy's playing at the "very easy" mode where everything is super slowed down, "very hard" is where you play real Tennis.

I can tell since I've been playing the last one for about 8 years, but your basic form hasn't changed. But I'm glad to see Roger's serve motion has been perfected. It's like they've evolved the graphics while keeping the goodness of the previous game. Of course I'll buy it.
I also think the controls would allow for more dynamic rallies and play. This video is lukewarm lol.

Yes, I have been playing on PS3 for almost 8 years. My favorite characters are Roddick, Becker and Murray. I'm glad to see Murray is in this one too lol.
Hope they add in the ball routines before serve. Like Federers double bounce for example that would make it feel more authentic

When the Sega Dreamcast released back in the days I loved playing Virtua Tennis 2 (arcade like controls, easy to learn, hard to master against good players). Recently I bought AO Tennis 2 on the PS5 to get back into the tennis game (more towards a mixed arcade/simulation compared to Virtua Tennis 2). Now I'm wondering what makes Top Spin 2K25 the better game compared to AO Tennis 2?

Roger's animations are way better than TS4. Serve looks awesome! Forehand looks beautiful! Backhand looks good but it seems like he's hitting the ball on a training session

After watching the gameplay videos I saw that TS2k25 seems to have the same issue as previous tennis games (after TS4) regarding the footwork before hitting the ball.
In real tennis, and in TS4, you don't lock in the feet 10 seconds before the shot like *this is how and where I'm gonna stand*, you just don't know, and keep moving your feet until you make the shot, as portrayed in TS4. The lock-in feet-thing makes the game seem less lively and smooth, please fix this.

It looks SO SLOW.... Even players from the 70's hit the ball faster. These Top Spin devs never watch a tennis match. Meanwhile in Tennis Elbow 2013 (or the last one Tennis Elbow 4), you can really hit shots at 80 mph, serves at 140 mph with a realistic average spin per minute (Nadal at 3000+ and so on).
True although I think Tennis Elbow has the opposite problem. It's too easy to hit extremely fast strokes resulting in too fast pacing

A very good indication for the speed/tempo and thus the level of play is how many balls players can hit within a minute. I've counted and on average in this video above they get to 41-42. That's a little lower than the pro's do on average. But it's very close. Thet woulg get around 45-46. They say Federer, with a very good hitting partner would get to 52. But that's just rally balls up en down the middle in a practice session.
So yes it's a bit slower. But I reckon when players get better and master the game (hitting at full speed and timing perfectly) we will also see these pro averages in this game.
Full Ace Tennis is a much better game than this...

I think once we have people that have actually mastered the game, we'll be able to see how nuanced it is. Or not. As of now, it looks very similar to TS4 and that's a good thing. Hopefully the stamina bar actually has an impact on the lenght of the rallies.

I like that a few of the animations from TS4 have been kept, since they were pretty much flawless. And the new animations for Roger look beautiful. Also, the amazing footwork system seems to have been replicated quite well. The players shuffle around the court and wait for the ball with their racket back, which is great and still different than other games like TWT where the players look like they’re performing some weird scripted dance. But other than that though, pretty much everything else looks worse…
The shots don’t really feel like they have any power to them-mainly because the sound of the ball being struck is super quiet and doesn’t really vary. TS4 had incredible sound design when it came to hitting slices vs power shots, and clean shots vs shanks.
Second, where is the adaptive crowd from TS4? They’re pretty much silent during rallies here, which just makes playing points feel boring.
I would also vastly prefer the grunting sounds from TS4 to whatever strange bloating noise they have Alcaraz doing here.
I also really hope the player roster gets some expansion. Just Federer, Agassi, Graf, Serena and some Top 3 players isn’t going to cut it. TS4 had like two dozen players, with pretty much every era’s legends like Borg, Sampras, Nadal and Djokovic all with distinct playstyles. It looks like net play is dead in this new release which I really hope isn’t the case.
I also hope the on-court atmosphere can be upped a bit. This court looks too plain. TS4 had an incredible immersion factor with the dark shadows falling on the court, the sounds of shoes squeaking, the incredible replays, the echo of being in a big stadium, line judges and ball kids moving around, the umpire watching the ball, etc. TS3 even had the detail of clouds passing under the sun and darkening the court mid-match!
Lastly, we need to at least see some facial expressions and player reactions equivalent to those of TS4. When a player wins a big point, the camera needs to show them baring their teeth, wiping off sweat, fistpumping, smiling, roaring “come on!”, at least saying something. If the players just stare blankly like they are here, this game will become just like all the other lackluster ones released since TS4.
All in all, I feel like I would honestly still prefer just a port of TS4 to the new gens, and if that’s how I feel then there isn’t much hope. But if just a few easy improvements are made, then this game will be a worthy successor.
Also, please let us play as Federer at a reasonable age!
Let's be honest, it's 2024 but this basically just looks and sounds like a worse version of a 13 year old game. Looks like a very lazy release to me. A cash grab.
Players need to move more and not stand still its not fluid enough yet and players also targeting the ball way too much in the middle of the court in real tennis they target the line and close to it not the middle of the court

Yes, love the 2K golf games, not sure how the soccer one will go, EA FC 24 is my last soccer game, I’ll just play it for what it’s worth. This tho I’m totally there for, top spin games were the best.

How is this game comparing to Tiebreak, the official ATP tennis game? TS25K's Federer's animation feels not as natural as in TP4.

The game does have a control shot it is just different if you liked TP4 then you will like this game,if you disliked TP4 then this is not the game for you.

I think the gameplay looks slow because the players are not used to the game... it was probably their first time playing and they may not have the proper technique to make powerful shots. I can't wait to play this game. I don't care if it's not the prettiest. If it's like Top Spin 4, it will be perfect. We really need a decent tennis game after all these years! 😁

My review on top spin 5 after watching the first videos:
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NO TH-cam CHANNEL HAS YET MENTIONED THE ABSOLUTELY POOR WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE WITH TOP SPIN 5.
Let's start with the graphic improvement which is ridiculous to say the least, top spin 4 came out in 2011 so top spin 5 came out 13 years later!! Personally, I don't notice such a clear graphic improvement compared to the previous chapter. In fact, comparing the two chapters despite the 13 year difference, the difference from a graphic point of view is really minimal.
Then the animations, many (almost all?) of which were directly copied and pasted from top spin 4, some even from the first top spin! (you can see it in an animation of Federer's backhand) Even the ball timing fonts are identical to the 4, notice how the forehand and backhand slice animations are identical to the chapter from 13 years ago,
or many of the forehand, backhand, volley and serve animations, many of these are identical to top spin 4! And some new animations are ridiculous, look at Federer's backhand for example which has nothing to do with the real counterpart and with any professional tennis counterpart (it looks like an amateur backhand in some animations) or Federer's straight-legged forehand Has anyone ever seen him play like this? I never.
The gameplay, graphics and game mechanics seem incredibly similar after 13 years, the timing on the ball is the same and also the ridiculous preparation animation (such a long pause when you raise the racket over your shoulder is unrealistic ).
The speed of the ball is funny, sometimes it seems to defy the laws of physics because of how slow it is, it seems like they are playing on the lunar surface, both in groundstrokes and in serves.
The volleys are too unrealistic, anyone who knows a little about tennis can only agree.
The animations of tennis players rarely resemble their real counterparts. Watch a McEnroe or Federer or Tiafoe match and tell me if the animations resemble real players.

It would have only been acceptable if they called it top spin remastered or top spin 4.1 and it came out 6 months after 4.
I would like to make an appeal, since I can't stand mediocre tennis games anymore, I volunteer for free to help the developers finally create a good tennis game, I think I could do better than this mess, it's certainly a pipe dream This appeal is a provocation but I'll do it anyway!
Sorry for the outburst but I've been waiting a long time for top spin 5 and in general for a good tennis game (finally) but it seems that this time too I'll still have to wait.

the developers of that game must have had a thousandth of the budget that the top spin developers had, yet look at the game they came up with! In terms of realism, verisimilitude to the real game of tennis and animations faithful to the real counterparts we are on another planet compared to top spin, and DMT had I imagine a thousandth of the budget of TS!

This feels like "very easy" mode from Topspin 4, I mean look at the serving speed, also the shot hitting, "very hard" is the way to play Topspin 4, you feel the rush of every shot you make and the speed increases, just like real life Tennis.

My first impression is that the game is quite slow but it may due to the player and bad timing. Serve must be more explosive in my opinion

Idk man the gameplay doesn’t look incredible. And not having Nadal and Novak on the game is very disappointing. Was looking forward to play against them and Federer and Alcaraz in the Grand Slams at the career mode, but now I don’t think the 75€ are worth it

It looks okay, but the ground strokes don’t resemble that of the real players, like i want to feel like i’m actually playing as Federer or Alcaraz. If indie games can perfectly capture the ground strokes of these players i don’t get why top spin 2k25 can’t do the same. Also the ball speed is too slow, but as long as it can be modified in the settings i won’t care about that. Character models up close are embarrassing obviously

Les joueurs joue trop facilement au milieu du court et font des rallye dans le terrain , les rallye et le jeux devrais ce passer derrière la ligne de fond et normalement les balle courte tu finit le point ou fini à la vollee là trop de rallye à l’intérieur du court

I mean why is the ball so slow its like 8yr olds playing. I really want this game to be good but idk. Seems off somehow, like player hitting the ball and staying in the place and not even trying to go back to neutral position and the next shot cross court is almost 100% point bcs of player positioning. This happens like never in real life, after everyshot comes recovery its like breathing -> in and out !
this is the player's fault here. They are not hitting with power for some reason
