I always found it hilarious that the outfielders sometimes dashed toward the infield when a home run was hit in MLB '99 like they were coming to beat the crap out of the pitcher.

I’m sure a lot of kids look at 96 like it’s a joke, but I can remember being amazed with the graphics at the time, especially how much better it was then NES baseball games.
Who cares what those kids think their kids they couldn’t handle these legendary times

Yeah I remember when ken Griffey jr baseball came out for Super Nintendo that was the first time there was realistic looking stadiums.
Then I was amazed at how good the graphic were for PlayStation at the late late 90s.
It probably runs better and has more features than madden 23 lmao

I remember in MLB 07 in road to the show mode that if you took a huge lead off the pitcher would always throw to your base, so if you started running right away you would always be able to steal the base (even home plate)
The graphics are amazing, seeing the progression. If only the announcers saw the same leap
I remember when I played I always always always muted them after like, 3 games and then I always skipped the replays.

One thing I miss from 06-09 era (idr when exactly) was the pitch recognition. Depending on the batters stats, the ball would flash a certain color based on what type of pitch it was. And some deliveries could hide it better naturally, and pitchers stats also combatted it. It was a great feature
I do believe you are talking about MVP Baseball. Don't think MLB the show ever had that feature.
@@GameDayonYTIt absolutely did. You could guess pitch type and location. If you guessed right, the square and/or the outline would flash. I used to love crushing a pitch I knew was coming.
@@DTRB1979 guess pitch is different than what he is describing. It sounds like he's describing the hitters eye feature from MVP Baseball 05. The Show has never had this feature and guess pitch is somewhat similar, but different overall.
The graphics haven't really improved much in the last 10 years

They have a bit but more importantly the resolution and frame rates have.
hopefully when they stop making a last gen version we’ll get a brand new engine. Imagine mlb the show made in unreal engine 5. it would be a masterpiece

MVP was amazing but let's be honest, both baseball games were great in that magical 03-05 era. Competition forces developers to make the best game possible. Since competition is gone, we don't see innovation in baseball games, well, sports games in general.

MLB 98 & 99 will always be my fav... those games had the best most responsive infield controls IMO... diving for grounders and then turning double plays was so much fun.
Imagine how great 23 would be if Vin Scully were still around and doing the commentary.
One thing I would love to happen is they make all of the commentators to AI voices of themselves. That way you could choose whatever commentators you wanted and they could make as many lines for them to say as they wanted because they didn't need them in the studio.

In many ways the current game and starting with 2007 are very similar.

I played a ton of mlb the show 09 and just bought 2023 and it’s the same game. There have been small tweaks but all in all it’s the same.
They haven’t touched it since 07 all the animations are the same
You can see the graphics really turn a corner around 08-09

First played MLB The Show 06 and haven’t looked back since. Had a hiatus for several years since I didn’t have a PS3 but love that game.
Without even seeing the caption or thumbnail, I could instantly tell that 2003 - 2004 was a generation jump.
You no longer see such massive generational improvements with new consoles.

Gameplay for 23 still needs improvement. Runners never run through first base on a bang bang play. 1st basemens need to stay on 1st to be able to try and throw out a runner from the outfield. Runners need to round first base, not stop at first when getting a hit. More realistic running routes need to be implemented. More plays need to be challenge-able! Some of the crowd should have baseball gloves as it is in real life. All home runs have balls getting caught barehanded. Background graphics need to be updated to make the ballpark more realistic, have cars in the parking lots and not empty lots. Have things actually look real. People actually selling items in the stands. Beach balls in the stands, have the crowd start the wave around the stadium. Maybe add a blimp cam from above. Implement the new lighting systems for ballparks. It would be cool for the show to have a my player mode that lets you walk all over each teams stadium like nba2k with its virtual world
Ken Griffey Jr Baseball on the N64 is the best baseball game of all time.

I played MLB 2005 alot as a kid. It looked really good for the time!
The biggest improvement in the show 24 is the lighting and faces. Other than that it hasn't changed much in the last 7 years
I was lookin at 08 and thinking that looks amazing.
In all honesty, once it got to the PS4 Around 17 or 18, honestly from a Graphics standpoint hardly anything has really changed these past 5-6 years its basically the same game with just minor improvements from a Visual standpoint but the gameplay does get better every year. Gameplay is more improved over past 5 years than graphics.
Even the commentary was the same for way too long. Pretty much the same game way too long really.
I can't tell if the ending was intentional but that was hilarious. Well played sir. Well played.
Been buying this series every year since it was MLB Pennant Race on Playstation 1. Best baseball game series.

All star baseball 02/03 and mvp baseball 05. The show didn’t start to become good until 2006.
Home runs in the old days sounded gun gunshots. I noticed 04 05 it started to take off with graphics

07 the show was my first baseball game, and honestly what got me into baseball
Had 08 and 19 with my Phillies on cover. Playing 21 now thinking bout upgrading to 22 or 23 . Great video Quite a jump since playing Major League Baseball on Intellivision

Most of these games now, should NEVER be yearly. Not enough leaps between last years versions and a year is not enough of development.
Shame that this is what sports games are now, overpriced roster updates.
Honestly you don’t need to update 22 is a minimal difference and 23 isn’t worth the CD it’s printed on it’s basically The Show 21 3.0

Baseball games back then were perfect. Triple play and MLB were staples. 2k baseball graphically looked great but the gameplay was subpar. Triple play will always be the G.O.A.T. baseball game to me.

Reminded me of Triple Play 98. I like the show and had most recently 2019 i believe. I made a couple of players. Mad Dog Duff pitcher and Rip Riley at 1st
its awesome to see the progression of these games, what blows my mind is thinking about what they will look like in another 10-15 years..

I was playing triple play on pc. Got on the show on 07. Almost have played every single one since. Best sport franchise by far. A shame they couldn't keep the option to follow your career
Interesting how they were too lazy to animate the crowd in the PS1 versions but the SNES game MLBPA Baseball did.
The amount of hours I sunk into 2010 version. That’s where I started my journey. That game couldve been a full time job for me tbh.

MLB 08 is the game that convinced me to get a PS3. I remember playing the demo for it at a friend's house and I just couldn't get over how good the game looked and played. Was playing MLB 2K6 on 360 and MLB 08 absolutely shit all over that game
Man I remember the huge graphical change from 03 to 04 . Plus anyone notice the 20 frames a second on 23 they really need to fix this
I've been complaining about the graphics in The Show for years. I don't understand how you have hardware this powerful and don't even have clothes physics on the jerseys and the same low fidelity in the environments
Played a bit MLB '19 without knowing anything about base ball, it was a PS plus offered game ^^
Since 'the show 23' has a WBC mode, it feels like it might have a different vibe from the previous series.

They couldn’t even give us WBC mode, just moments and couldn’t even create accurate jerseys from this year’s WBC
2011 looked better than 2023 in some ways. The grass since about 2020 is unacceptable, imo.
It’s funny how in 1997 the ball came in smoother than some today. I even play offline vs the CPU & half the time the ball is coming in choppy & doesn’t run smooth at all. Sometimes it works. Idk what’s wrong with these new games.
06 was the first one I played and I’ve been playing it ever since🙏🏽💯.

It’s wild that the mlb series is the one that stayed around. Triple play, all star baseball and many others were way better baseball games back in the day.
Honestly I feel like there's been an improvement in every successive game that they've released. Rare to find that in a sports video game nowadays (Madden, NBA 2K come to mind).
Also, I remember as a kid we had MLB 2K6 on the PS2, with Derek Jeter on the cover. That was a super good game for its time. Me and my younger brother and Dad would have so much fun intentionally plunking each other, and they even had a feature where you could get your manager thrown out of the game 😅. Great memories!

This video is the perfect way to respond to those who claim “baseball is baseball, it’s the game same so it can’t be improved, no matter what you do it’s still baseball” look at the improvements made from old to new consoles back in the day. Yeah it’s baseball, but that doesn’t mean the pitchers have to look robotic. I miss the days of noticeable improvement year to year, especially when expecting everyone to shell out full price for the roster update

It’s a shame because the 989 games were always the worst baseball games. EA should have got the MLB license and 2K the NFL license. Instead, the worst companies ended up with NFL and MLB.

For someone who has played baseball games religiously since Sega, The Show set the standard for this generation
22 and 23 have bad movement compared to the few years prior where it was smoother.
MLB The Show 2010 was my personal favorite.
Do you have one from the pitchers pov? Would have been nice to see that with the hitters pov.
Over the years, they have removed some great features, including episodes with replay and commentary. One of my favorite features that was eliminated is the option in Road to the Show (RTTS) to upload your own walk-up music.
I don't know if anyone else has experienced this in MLB The Show 23, but there is a glitch where, if you go to the manager option and have the player steal a base, for the rest of the at-bat, the broadcast will refer to the batter as the leadoff batter. Then, after every pitch, the animation will cut to that batter on the bench. Moreover, if you hit a home run, it won't show the home run; it will just cut again to that batter on the bench.
The biggest thing I hate about the commentary in MLB The Show is how they repeat the same thing over and over again. You would think that the game's commentary is linked to where you are in the season. The commentary should grow more varied the more you play out the season, kind of like how in GTA III, the more you played the game, the more you unlocked the map.
Even in 2009 this game looked and played better than Madden lol
