This week's track of the week is 'Let 'Em In', taken from the 1976 Wings album 'Wings At The Speed Of Sound'.
What are your thoughts on the track? What is your favourite song(s) on the 'Wings At The Speed Of Sound' album? Let us know in the comments below...
I find this song hypnotic. The piano in the background creates such a mysterious and dream-like atmosphere.
a la Fool on the Hill
Exactly Paul’s intent
Yeah, kinda like 1985
This song takes me back to high school in 1976
100%!
Riding in the car with my mom, on the way to 1st grade, 1976. Rest in peace, mom. Love you.

Such a precious & beautiful memory. 🤍🕊
Heard this in a car ride too with my parents, '77 coming home Saturday nights from their bowling games.

My father told me he felt this song was about letting Jesus in to his life and asked if I agree. I said music is meant to be personalized and an interpretation of whatever they were actually singing about. He gave a look like he totally understood. Not long after we found out he was sick. I’m pretty sure he knew he was. See you on the other side Pop!❤
No proper words to "explain" that I can relate. I have lost both my parents and our 3 year old started school today. Once my Mom had her 7th recurrence, she knew. She loved All of "The Beatles".

“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.
true
That's one way to see it, and it's not true just like most generalizations

@@bcdrummer1962 Williams quote is a generalization, my statement is not
This song has probably the most perfect tempo. It has room for everything in it. From the percussion, bass line, piano, flute and horns. This is what perfection sounds like.
True.

Me too, first job, tons of friends, parties, socials, trips in rental cars, on motorbikes to the beach. Life was so carefree then.

In the 1970s the parents drove from NJ to Iowa to see the relatives. I was probably 9 or 10 and this song was playing and on the route I saw signs for West Virginia as we drove through Southern PA. The part of the song where he sings "West Virginia" always brings me back to my youth with the warmth of Summer and time off to do leisure things...
I wished I could grow up in the 1970’s …. All over again. Such Happy times !!
AMEN TO THAT MY FRIEND

Paul McCartney was the greatest song writer of the 20century.
Lennon-McCartney!
One of the greatest song writers, agreed, but he wasn't a GOAT. Freddie Mercury and Ronnie James Dio both exceptional song writers. RIP to both of you 😢😊.
@@zzzzxxxzxzxzxzxw. You listed two amazing singers with unmatched vocal talent, not because they are amazing song writers only, however you can whistle many Paul McCartney songs and many others near you including the 75 year old man in front of you and the 12 year old girl and her mother behind you, will know it’s Penny Lane, regardless, they will all have that song stuck in their heads until they all know it’s Penny Lane, then they will be singing it for hours to themselves, until they whistle it in public, passing it over to a few others within ear shot, who carry it away in their head just like they did. Killer Queen and Another one bites the dust, are great songs but not something you would normally whistle, or that would catch on to others if you did. Same as Dio Man on the Silver Mountain with Rainbow or Neon Nights with Sabbath. You and I are both right and wrong and that’s what’s so cool about music, it doesn’t matter, the fact is, music remains the closest thing we have to an actual Time Machine, it brings us back to a past memory of a certain person, place or time we miss in life. Paul McCartney does that with his songs more often than anyone else.
@@mike-jm9rs ..lets not forget the Bee-Gees superb writing talents, not just for them but as hitmakers for a myriad of singers
By far the best song I’ve heard about someone knocking on your door.
@Robbie John and then there's "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" by the Stones . . .
Don't forget "Keep a knockin'" by Little Richard.
I hear you knocking by Dave Edmunds?
Neighbor - Double Cream
And maybe, ""Who can it be now?" by Men at Work.
McCartney left a road map for generations, as to what song writing is, how to do it well and serves a perfect study on raw talent. A legacy in history.
Let a 54 old drummer shake your hand!🤝🏻✌️🏻
I agree, and I believe Temporary Secretary is definitive proof of his talent.
This takes me to a place in time when the air was sweet and the music made memories that can take you right back to that place in time and you can smell the same sweet air in your soul. God, life was so good then!

This song always reminds me of family-both immediate and related. Especially now that all of my immediate family have passed away. I’m the youngest and am SUPPOSED to be the only one left. But not yet…it all seems so unfair somehow. Yet, life is full of things that are unfair. And the privilege is that I had them at all, I guess. I’ll admit to feeling a little knife in my heart when Paul sings ‘Brother John’…as one of my brothers was John (the other was Jim). They both died recently at age 59…and I can only hope that they knew I loved them very much.
I had an Uncle Ernie, I know exactly what you mean.
I get you I am in the same place
Sorry for all your losses. Yes, life is unfortunately very cruel and unfair. Hope you are in a good place. I am 53 and lost my father who was 88 recently and that was hard.

there's just so much SPACE in this whole song - even when there's lots happening at the same time, there's space between instruments/tracks which mean the whole thing sounds so open
Never heard space used as a term this way but I’m ignorant on music term. But space is plenty in this song. 56 years old and learning.
Nail on the head and a great description. I totally get what you mean by a lot of space.
I remember this song from summer of 1976, 'which also wàs the bicentennial I was twelve years of age. Brings back alot of memories, thank you Sir Paul McCartney.
It reminds me of “Bolero” because there is the one key melodic refrain with so much room for other instruments to move in and out. A beautiful bit of musical layering from a true genius.
I was twelve, too, back in that cool bicentennial year...@@michaelwelch3296

Yes indeed
Patrick Brown, Right. Totalmente de acuerdo, saludo desde Vichada, Colombia.
I don't like absolute statements, but this, while highly debatable, is close enough to true.
OH,MY MORE THAN ADORABLE PAULIE,YOU ARE THE BEST OF ALL IN THE WORLD !!!!!
Very talented, the person who created this song and others. The only problem is it isn't Paul McCartney. It's William Campbell. The original Paul was killed in a ritual sacrifice on 9/11/66. Both he and Lennon made a deal with the elites who rule over us. These people and entities are demonic. They participated in a ritual in which both Lennon and McCartney were told that they would all eventually be killed. That particular pact is called "Death for success." Paul got his a mere 3 years after the ceremony. We all know what happened to Lennon and when but it wasn't done at the hand of Chapman. It was the door man working at the Dakota that night who just happened to be ex CIA. Lastly there was the attempt on George, which would have succeeded had it not been for his wife. However they finished George off with Cancer. The only reason there was never an attempt on Ringo's life is because he wasn't a member of the band when the Ceremony took place and Pete Best was spared because they hadn't become famous before he was let go. Nothing in this world is as it seems folks. Nothing. Good day.
Semplicemente ....Fantastico!!!......Nn c'è Storia!!...Unico❤
I'm a trombone player so I love the trombone solo It was one of the first trombone things I could play!
played it in high school... miss it
That's awesome!
Frickin sick i gonna learn it
This is the most underrated Wings song of all time. McCartney's genius has always been creating songs that are extremely catchy yet sound so simple--though musically they are far from simple whether unique time signature and/or chord changes or adding perfect accompaniment instruments and percussion i.e. the snare pattern and flute riffs in this track. These are not typical things usually found in this type of pop song yet it fits so perfectly. Paul just makes songwriting and production seem so easy. John was always my favorite Beatle but there is no denying, imo, that the one member that was absolutely irreplaceable to the quality of music they produced was McCartney.
Love each and every word of your comment. Completely agree
I'm not a musician personally, but your writing makes sense in my head. I believe you described it perfectly for fellow colleagues and musicians, and you wrote so well that I got it too.
I listen to background music in that headphone zone and Mr. McCartney does it so well.
Fascinated with Jeff Lynne and his background orchestral movements as well.
If you have other stuff, I'd enjoy reading...

The trombone solo is the best

The love between Paul and Linda was a masterpiece called Wings ❤
The other lads helped.
One of my earliest memories was packing-up to move to New England, from Michigan. 'Let Em In' was on the radio EVERYDAY, along with "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" by Paul Simon. Loved those days. On an aside, always felt the "Military Drumming" in this tune was sort of an ode to the upcoming American Bicentennial, 1976.

I remember hearing this on the radio in 1976 when it came out, I was only 3 years old, I can remember that far back. A neighbor of ours she must have been 19 and she would take me to Santa Monica beach. This reminds me of summer of '76.
I was also 3! How cool that we remember this, seems impossible
Great music, Great song writer!
At the door of life be careful whom you allow in...
Freakin' KEWL song! Ever since I first heard it on the radio back in 1976, it's been a favorite!
That piano riff is so mesmerizing and so funky. McCartney is the greatest.
Is it possible to fall in love with the same song over and over? Yep. This would be it
I don't know why but when I listen to this song I remember those people who left this world.
I know what you mean, when I listen to all the beatles together and individually I feel joyous and nostalgic at the same time
April 27th, 1976, a Tuesday afternoon. It was raining, we were in the stationwagon going to the mall in Vineland. The grey clouds, steady, like a wooly blanket hanging onto the end of winter. Green leaves, bright colors , crisp memories. The beat, the doorbell, of all things, is one of the main things I remember about this song.
I discovered this amazing song in 2019 i am 15 and glad hearing this kind of music
