I purchased Ttartisan lenses to practice (23mm being my favourite) to learn manual focus photography, and it provides an easy way to access "classic" lenses which I'm enjoying immensely.
I'm hearing many good things from all these comments about tt artisan lenses. Seems like the overall manual user experience these lenses offer ,paired with the old school design of the zfc is creating an amazing chemistry!
I just got rid of my z50 however the zfc is what I’m getting with some manual lenses. Nikon has a unique image quality and now the sigma lenses are available for it

I use my Zfc probably more than my Z6II. And I am now replacing it with the new black edition, that I find absolutely gorgeus. I have the two kit lenses plus the 18-140 (great lens, almost always on the Zfc when I’m traveling), but I also have all the Viltrox lenses (but the new 13mm). Anyway, please don’t forget that you can use all the full frame Z lenses on the Zfc. Sometime I use the 70-200 f.28 on the Zfc, even with the TC2.0. We are not surely limited by the DX lense lineup. And buying a full frame lens will ensure the compatibility if you will ever end up buying a full frame Z body.
That's amazing, the black body looks absolutely gorgeous! I'm not pulling the trigger personally on these more expensive full frame lenses just yet because I can't afford them for now haha. But yeah I couldn't agree more with you!
While convenient, the argument of "just buy full frame because when/if you upgrade it'll work" is what puts you in a spot like with Canon R mount that's locked down and the chances of them releasing anything past budget zooms for APS-C bodies is next to nothing. Most people don't buy a crop sensor body to pay for the bulk and higher prices of full frame glass. Look at fuji's f2 lenses, they're small, affordable, and produce great results for the price. If I wanted to buy ff glass I'd just buy a ff body.
If you don't mind manual lenses, Voigtlander has the 23 and 35mm f2 DX Z mount lenses that are basically all I use on my fc. They communicate with the body, so you get focus indicators on top of the standard peaking and magnification options for manual focus. The selected focus box will change color when it registers being in focus just like with autofocus. You can set it up for focus priority on shutter to get trap focus.

Hi Ilias, thank you for the very informative video, I also love the Z-FC looks, reminding me of my Nikon FM I bought new at 18, I will buy a Z-FC very shortly. To bad Nikon is sleeping regarding Z-mount lenses. When I bought my FM in 1977, you received an invitation from the Nikon importer for their Nikon day, work with lenses and accessories, watch film about Nikon lens production. The guy told us, "you did not just buy a camera, you bought a vessel to gain access to Nikon's program of lenses". They forgot a bit about their own heritage it seems, but thank you for the tip regarding Viltrox.

Thank you for this content. I just purchased the Z fc to replace my A6400, for the colours that I get SOOC, I don't regret it for a moment. I don't do any video, but use it purely for photography. It's fast becoming my favorite. I didn't buy it with the kit lens, but selected the 28mm f2 .8 SE version. Can't believe the close focus one can get with it. Am awaiting delivery of the 40mm f2 SE.
That's awesome! For photography only you can't go wrong with this camera. I would like to try out the 40mm sometime, looks like a really nice "walk around do it all" lens.
I also found a way to download film simulations to the Nikon zfc so this makes it even better for photography 💪

I'm using my Z fc with the 16-50mm kit lens for more than half a year now and I totally love that combination. This camera is ideal to take it with you wherever you go, it is light weight and small and the picture quality amazes me time and time again. When I'm going on a photo tour I take my Nikon DSLRs with a bunch of lenses, but even then there's always a place left for the Z fc in my camera backpack. Most of the time I have it hanging around my neck, though, only putting it away when I have to use a heavy tele zoom for wildlife or a prime lens for portrait or macro.

I own the 24-70mm F4 and I love it but There is something about prime lens that I like. Maybe because it forces you to move more.
Hey! I love your videos. If the xs10 was the same price as zfc would you still buy the zfc? The weather sealing is crucial for me because I want a camera to take everywhere and worry about the zfc but love the style. Also Fuji film simulations seem so good. Currently I’m deciding on which one to buy
I think the xs10 is the better option. It's a work horse , great for both photography and videography. Just be careful. Some say it has some weather sealing, some say it doesn't. At this point I don't know who to trust

You don’t need to hold the button on the shutter speed dial. It it is just a release for the ones that it locks into.

Well, the 28mm helps you a lot during the night because of its f/2.8 aperture and is also a tiny bit sharper. The 16-50mm is a great walk around lens for the city or your hikes on the mountains etc. In my humble opinion the 16-50mm is right choice for most users. There are better prime lenses out there that can substitute the 28mm.

May I ask about the colors? Did you use any custom color profiles to shoot out of camera JPEGs like people do with Fuji?
You can definitely download different film simulations from the internet. From what I have tested tho it's nothing to crazy. Fuji definitely has the best film simulation support out there. Although I never struggle to achieve the colors that I want. The raw file is pretty flexible and I like the color science from this camera

Great video, keep it up! I'm currently using my z-fc with the viltrox 23 1.4 for video and indoor/night photography, and have an adapted sigma f mount 18-250 for everyday/travel photography. I've never used the kit lens that came with the camera, now i'm thinking that I should give it a go vs the sigma.
Love the 23mm , I use it all the time. I actually have a video almost ready to upload for that specific lens. The new kit lens is for sure way more sharper but on the reach of your sigma is super useful as well. Good lens to adapt and smart choice from you.
@@IliasKoureas I really want to get the viltrox 13mm f1.4 as well. Having ultrawide prime lenses available below 500€ seems unreal. I'll probably end up selling my 23 to get the 13 though. My only gripes with the 23 so far are it's minimum focus distance, which is quite big, and the focal length which is a bit weird if you already own 35 and 50mm primes.
Regarding the z-fc how long have you used the power delivery feature to record video? Mine slowly loses power and eventually dies while plugged in. The only way I can get it to record almost indefinitely is by recording externally on my computer via HDMI.
@@christoskaragiannis7973 the 13mm 1.4 is my next lens as well! I reckon it's the best lens for vlogging, filming and many other shooting scenario's, especially for astro photography. It's such a bargain. Hopefully viltrox releases the 75mm 1.2 for the Z mount as well.
@@christoskaragiannis7973 about the power delivery feature, I don't think I ever used it. Not sure what it is exactly 😂 I just record my videos internally and I always have that 30mins timer
@@IliasKoureas Maybe I should stop being cheap and get more batteries 😜. Right now I am always packing my 20.000mah PD power bank with this camera and shoot video plugged in for piece of mind. I've never ran out of battery taking photos though.

I recomment trying out the ttartisan or viltrox primes, got the 23mm ttartisan prime for it and am super happy. They are manual though
I got the 50mm 1.2 TTArtisan. Made even a video last week. Love these manual focus lenses.
I have a similar opinion about the machine as stated in the video. I've been using it for about a year and a half. What bothered me the most at the beginning was that I constantly pressed the front function button with my little hand, even though I don't have large hands. When I put the grip on (SmallRig), this is completely gone, I never press it accidentally. The grip hasn't come off since. Fortunately, Tamron and, slowly, Sigma lenses are also coming. But other manufacturers (e.g. Laowa, TTartisans, Viltrox, etc.) also throw away many lenses. I have a 100mm f2.8 macro lens, which is manual, but the quality is amazing. ;)
I'm really considering trying out the manual focus lenses , they look really fun to be honest 😅

Having shot Nikkromat/Nikon film cameras most my life, I always find it amusing when folks complain about the lack of a grip, none of my old cameras had grips unless I mounted my (bulky) motor drive to the camera, not that having a protruding grip on the right hand side wouldn’t be a nice addition.

Leica cameras also don't have a grip in most of their designs and nobody complains. I like the fact that I can choose between a grip or no grip at all. Thank you for your comment and for showing us new folks some hidden knowledge of the past 🙏😁

By the way, it seems that sigma will comes to nikon Z next year, i'd love me some sigma 56mm F1.4 or even the 18-50 F2.8 ( even if not stabilized ).
Oh boy I would love to own these two sigma lenses ! I'm lacking a 50mm prime and if I could upgrade the kitlens to something faster that would be awesome. Fingers crossed
I just got my Z fc, better late than never. Thanks for all your videos on this camera and its DX lenses. I'm enjoying my camera and satisfied with my purchase. Cant wait to get the dx 24mm f1.7 and the 12-28 PZ VR. I've tested the 28mm full frame retro lens on the Z fc but for me, its too tight focal view for street photography for my personal taste.

I use m mount lenses with a helicoid adapter on my Zfc, and they combine very well. Now that Voigtlander have a Z mount line, I'll mix and match. First purchase will be the 23mm f/1.2, then the 40mm f/1.2 (which is FF and will also reside on my Z7). I love the Z fc. I now want the black one.

Thank you for this informative video. I own a Canon 5d MKiii with several L lenses. My loaded camera bag weighs in at 26+ lbs. My wife and I will be traveling to Europe for 6 weeks here in a month, and I did not want to carry my heavy gear around with me AGAIN. I am in the market for a much smaller camera and have been watching and learning from a lot of reviews on several cameras. I must say, your video has been the best. Canon has some nice RF lenses at a low cost. The 28 - 35macro-85mm portrait lenses are inexpensive and very good. The RF 24-105mm is pretty good. The 50mm f1.8 is $169 USD, which is pretty good price on a FF lens -- with good reviews. With the R10 crop sensor being able to use FF lenses, if you already own a Canon FF camera, you can swap the lenses. Canon R10 is made in Japan. For $995, when on sale, the Nikon Z5 is a good bargain. Also, the Panasonic GX-9 camera is a well made one, with stabilization. It has a proper tilt only screen for street use. Now the Nikon camera with a tilt only screen is the Z50, which is a fine little compact model. Place a compact lens on there and call it a street camera.

How many shots can you get on a full charge
Hi ilias, very good and honest video. I’m trying to convince myself to get Zfc with 16/50 and 50/250 lens kit. I’ve an old D5100 with 18/105 kit lens and I ask myself if this zfc could be a huge step forward… what do you think about? I wish to buy a camera to get moments of my first child… I need a good camera lightweight that take good photo (no professional use).
In you opinion I could consider Z6ii? There is too much different for no professional usage like me? At this moment I have no problem with budget (for Z6ii) but seems that it is a lot havier and larger than z fc….
In the future I wish to buy some lens like 28/75 2.8 or an 50mm 1.8…

Every mirrorless will be a HUGE upgrade from your d5100. I've used a d3400 and my cousin a d5300 and we can't go back since we upgraded. In my opinion for your usecase the Nikon zfc is definitely the right choice just because of the small size so you can take it everywhere with you (family trips, walk-around etc.). These two kit lenses are also amazing, the sharpest kit lenses on the market by far. Obviously for indoors you will need a faster lens just to get more quality pictures of your kid.
But you can always rent for a day both cameras and make your final decision on your own 😁

Any opinions on the 28mm lens and getting it over the kit zoom?
I prefer the traditional zoom kit lens. I don't like the fact that the 28mm is a 2.8 lens. I much rather keep the useful zoom lens and add in a cheap viltrox or sigma prime lens which opens up till f/1.4
Unless you also own a full frame Nikon camera or you care about the retro design I don't see any point getting it

I’m currently torn between this and the z30. Or go back to what I had before and proper DSLR but not that great for travel.
If you can live without the viewfinder get the z30. But if do a lot of shot's during daylight where the viewfindrr is key and you really love the look of the zfc then get the zfc. They are the same camera at the end of the day. Great for traveling that's for sure.
The z30 is cheaper tho and there are some great deals out there.
Agree with your findings. Wish Nikon would release the 23mm dx prime that’s been on their roadmap forever! Ps, i have the Z50, but am really tempted. Y the all black zfc model.
The z50 is basically the same camera. Unless you really want that unique look then I would just suggest to wait for another Nikon crop camera. I'm hoping for a z80 maybe?? Would be nice.

@@IliasKoureas Yes, i’d also love an upgraded model, say maybe with that newer 26 mp Sony sensor. I’ll look into that Viltrox 23mm you mention. I am considering their 13 1.4 for my wide angle.

If they had a equivalent 35mm lens around 2.0 to still keep it relatively small I would have probably gotten this camera over the x100v last year. Super happy with the 100v being a 18 year 4/3 to m4/3 user. I'd still get it if they make that lens. That said I'll put any lens including the leica lens against the Olympus 35mm equivalent 1.2.
It would be soooo nice if we had a small 35mm equivalent lens. I'm also jealous about the film simulations that Fuji provides. That being said if leica ever made lenses for Nikon I would die to use one. I really want to try out more manual lenses in order to slow down the process with this camera and enjoy it like the old analog days.
yeah the f/1.2 olympus lenses are pretty damn awesome. fingers crossed they release something like a 10mm f/1.4.
Hi Ilia, I enjoyed watching your review of the Nikon Z fc. I’m actually very impressed that you use this camera as your main camera. You seem to get lots of wonderful photos with what you shoot with the Z fc. Actually, in your review you hit on all the positive points and the negative points that I have found on my Z fc. I use mine as an everyday, street and personal camera. I’m not sure why Nikon did not add IBIS. Without knowing the cost of engineering this feature into such a tiny camera, I can only guess image stabilization just added to much extra cost. I’ve no idea how popular this camera is. Maybe Nikon had no idea the Z fc would be popular, so they just gave it the bare minimum features packed in a small body with the same sensor as the Z50. I also use a flash occasionally. Mostly the small Nikon 500 flash or a similar flash made by Godox. If anyone doubted that the Nikon Z fc is a serious camera, they should watch your review. As far as why Nikon doesn’t manufacture more DX lenses for their APSC cameras, I think it strictly has to do with engineering costs and where Nikon want to put their engineering money to work for them. From the little bit I know, Nikon is a privately held company. No one doubts that Nikon moved to “mirrorless”, later that their competitors. Comparing Nikon to the corporate size, of Sony, Canon, Panasonic or Fuji isn’t fair. They’re simply much larger and more diversified. Thank you again. I agree, the lack of DX lense choice for this and the Z50 camera is a put off
The area of projection from a FX lens is the best. So why do you worry about DX lenses? See the Angry Photographer on TH-cam where he provides an explanation
I guess it's because of the price + weight that comes with fx lenses. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of using fx lenses on crop sensor bodies, but I'd love to see something like the 35mm 1.8 DX that Nikon has for their DSLRs. We don't even have a fast zoom at this point and the z50 has been out for more than 3 years.
But does the Fuju XS 10 have as good auto focus as the ZFC. Ibis equals rolling shutter and the nikon has digital stabilisation correct?
Its a bit worse in terms of auto focus, but better in every other aspect

It is true that SONY colors aren't always great straight out of camera, but I found that one can get pretty decent colors from the RAW files using Capture One. The Express version is available for free for SONY cameras.
Of course you can edit the raw files to your liking because they are really flexible, but I just found out that straight out of the camera the older songs have the worst color science. Don't get me wrong, I love the Sony's and I recommend them to many people but they have disadvantages over other systems (menus, ergonomics, colors) which might be a deal breaker for some people 😁
@@IliasKoureas I completely agree. I mentioned RAW files and Capture One mainly because it seems that even without any additional adjustments. the colors come out a lot better when compared to straight out of camera JPGs. But of course I understand that not everyone wants the additional hassle of having to process RAW files, in which case older SONY cameras aren't the best choice.
Great review. Thinking of buying one. Some critics on-line say it feels plasticky. I never holded one. What do you think?
It does feel plasticky but its actually not. Personally thats a good thing for me because you have a really lightweight everyday camera with you. Go to a camera store and ask to hold one before you get it in order to see if you like it in your hands or not

I use the Nikon sb-500. It's enough for me. If you want something stronger look at stronger Nikon models. I've heard that godox makes amazing flashes but I've never used one personally

I guess you mean from Chinatown in London! Yeah these were taken with the kit lens at f3.5. You will get noise at 3200 or higher. Try to search for really good lights during your night street photography. Also you can use the new AI noise reduction from Lightroom. It works really great.

I’m wondering to buy Nikon Z50 with the 2 kit lenses or Nikon Z5 with 24-70 f4. The prices here in Greece are excellent from Nikon.
That’s the reason that I asked about the night photos. To understand if the kit lens of Z50 is ok for night shots.
What do you propose for amateur use? May the Nikon Z5 with f4 is a bulky camera?

@@PERIKLIS1 The Z5 is much better for photography especially in low light because its full frame. If you can afford the full frame lenses then this is the obvious choice. BUT if you want also good the video keep in mind the z5 is terrible

It depends on what you want to do with your camera. The Sony zv1 is just a vlogging camera. It's designed to do only that. You cannot switch/buy new lenses. So if you just want to do vlogs the the ZV1 is all you need. On the other hand the zfc is equally good for vlogging (you can also get wider lenses and the camera becomes even better). It's also a much better photography camera.
If you want grow as a photographer and learn to use cameras/lenses then the Nikon zfc is the better choice. If you just want to vlog and capture cute photos while doing that then the Sony zv1 is good for that as well

The 16-50mm kit lens (and the 50-250mm) or the 28mm 2.8. I would take the first package and simply add the 24mm 1.7 as my fast prime and avoid the 28mm.

It's an excellent little lens. Perfect for documenting your everyday life. I like the fact that it's small and you can basically fit it with your camera in your jacket and not have to bother about camera bags etc.

Yes in terms of speed, lenses, video, smaller body. These are the pros that I can think of. The image quality will be better as well just because of the sharper lenses you get with the mirrorless apsc system

@@iflotaichi Exactly. You would just get a better hit rate because of the mirrorless better auto focus. I dont like using adapters anyway, they get in the way and the newer lenses are just better.
@@IliasKoureas ok. There isn't going to be an nikon FX upgrade and if I want to keep using all my dslr lenses its' either go full frame(a few of my best lenses are full frame) or mirrorless and start the lens collection over. Would probably lean towards a D780. Thank you, very helpful.

Oh yes, you have no idea!! In the next video I'll use it to print large landscape photos. All I can say is that I'm blown away from the detail that I'm getting out of this small lens. By far the best kit lens out there. Quality glass.

@@checkmate9 You can also consider the Fuji xe4 in my opinion. Very similar cameras, with a retro finish. The xe4 also has film simulations inside of it. In my opinion the 16-50mm kit lens is superior to the 28mm. Way more useful and you can always pair it with a small prime lens from sigma or viltrox.
