i like how in Japanese they called korea and china in a different way than any other country since they have a long history and vice versa. Since in Korean and mandarin they have a special way of calling each other.

It's true that イギリス is originated from England, but now in most cases it refers UK. You can use イングランド for England instead. Similarly in Korean, 英國 means UK, and you should use 잉글랜드(Ing-geul-len-deu) for England.

I was so surprised when I found out Japan is Nihon in Japanese, lol imagine how you guys feel the first time you find out people everywhere around the world call you 'japanese', like how did Nihon become japanese lol, It's the same with some of my native arabic names, in western languages they're completely different, for instance Egypt in arabic is Misr. The Chinese way of reading the Japanese name basically went through the telephone game.

Netherlands is Belanda in Indonesian (Hollanda in Japanese) there's a similarity, probably because of the Indonesian colonial era (Japan took Indonesia over from the Dutch).

The Japanese took "Oranda" from the Portuguese, as well as Indonesian. There's deregatory term "londo" long before Japanese arrived in 1942.

I agree. In fact, Italy used to be called イタリー "Itarī" before changing to イタリア "Itaria". And, checking in Japanese Wikipedia, it seems that until the Edo period, Spain was called イスパニア "Isupania".

But Democrat and Socialist doesn't make sense in English. You either use Democratic or Socialist not both. These people who created this name definitely didn't know how English works. And you used 5 katakana characters with 9 Kanji characters in that name and called it Japanese?! Kanji means Chinese characters. There's was a short lived country called "The Socialist Republic of South Vietnam."

It's true that イギリス is originated from England, but now in most cases it refers UK. You can use イングランド for England instead. Similarly in Korean, 英國 means UK, and you should use 잉글랜드(Ing-geul-len-deu) for England.
My country "Thailand" has former name is "Siam". So do you know what word used before タイ??

There are 3 ways to say the name of UK in Japanese.
英国 is just a mixture of 国(country) and shorten form of 英吉利, which is a phonetic writing using kanji.
イギリス is usually used.

They most likely borrowed the word from Italian and since Italy in Italian is Italia that is probably why.
