      Dude I know the feeling. Hey, have youtube channel, that's the justification, right? Lol
      I never had any interest in these either until I randomly looked into them the other week. And then I showed it to my crawler mates and they thought it was awesome, which made me think there would probably be others of us unaware of this related niche. And so here we are! Sorry, wallet.

      Heh, same! I used to dream of such things as what's around today. Things were starting to get better in the later 80s as plastics were improving and by the early-90s I'd saved up for my first proper stadium truck kit build. But things like this, for so little money by modern standards, were just unheard of!

      Woohoo! Glad you enjoyed! I'm looking at an upgrade video or series for this thing. Made the 'stick' cylinder gears click yesterday (through misuse, tried to lift the track when I didn't realise a bucket tooth was stuck under it), so there's potential for it to fail completely if I'm not careful. Keep an eye out for that, it's coming.
      This is a very solid machine and when I consider it's cost next to a typical rock crawler, I think the value for money is about the same. Yeah, they're making a dollar on these things, but they're thoughtfully designed and the value is there, I think. Cheers

    Funny thing is, that original CAT 336d is 3.29m wide, and Huina 1580 is 18cm wide, which makes for 1:18 scale. Definately not 1:14. Same goes for WPL B36 and JJRC Q61 truck. On the box it says 1:16, while after calculating the dimensions, it sums up for 1:18.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a bit cheeky, but that's just a shadow of the dozer they make. It is 1/16 on the box but I calculated it to average out to 1/29 scale!! I've got a video around here somewhere for it.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, I don't know for sure, but I'd expect that when you turn a controller on and then the new board, it should bind and "just work". I can't promise this, but I'm pretty sure you can just replace the board. If it helps, it's what I would do! Hopefully it works out!

  • @aaronlimeuchin7352

    Ah yes, I did notice this Huina excavator in online shopping like Shopee, Lazada, and Aliexpress. The thing is really nice and beautiful, and I almost want to buy it if it is not for the knock-off cheapo plastic version of a Playstation 1 controller (01:32) I used to have when I was a kid. Watching your video makes me reconsider buying in the future, later future.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's really not so bad and it doesn't feel all that much like the PS1 controller. A little bit, I guess. The tall sticks help separate it from that feeling tho!!

    • @aaronlimeuchin7352
      @aaronlimeuchin7352 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RCTNT yeah, now you mentioned the sticks
      , the controller does actually look more like my old Play Station 2 controller (not the other type that have a rough grip below the end of controller). Anyhow, the Huina model you got is a great rc, and I happened to tumble upon a similar Huina excavator model like yours in Shopee.
      It costs about AUD 1597.13 (RM4500). Crazy expensive. Not sure why it is crazy expensive, but from the details I checked from the online shop, the excavator looks kind of more solid than your current model (no offense, sorry) and might be on par with rc excavators of other prominent brands.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No offence taken at all, lol! I have every huina model here, and others too, and I have a big round up coming soon. But the model you're looking at is overpriced and should be around aud$1100. It's their best non-hydraulic model.

    • @aaronlimeuchin7352
      @aaronlimeuchin7352 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RCTNT hmm, but earlier yesterday I checked at Shopee, that model is a hydraullic model based on the ad. Probably that is the reason why it is so expensive, but really, it is still criminally too expensive just for a normal rc excavator. I saw several rc excavator going about AUD 15,971.31 (RM 45000) at Shopee. That amount is more than enough to go for a decent sized train set (for e.g., Kato) or almost enough for me to buy a local produced sedan car in my country.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aaronlimeuchin7352 they're not cheap, but the components and assembly is considerable. I've done a hydraulic conversion of the 1580 on my channel not too long ago and that was a big job. If you saw a legit Huina hydraulic one for under AUD$2k, that's an excellent price, expensive though they are.
      Some of these hydraulic toys go for up to around AUD$30k, which is mind-bogglingly expensive. I'm going to reveal a very expensive model on my channel soonish, it's here in a big 176kg crate that was delivered not long ago. There's no way I'd have bought it if I wasn't doing YT as a business, because that's just so, so much money. But wow, there's a lot of choice out there these days, eh?

      I mean, it'll survive a light shower, but no, it isn't waterproof. In your last question I answered with my upgrade article - that includes a section on waterproofing the PCBs in the machine. You can clean it with a rag or a wipe. Brush out the tracks with stiff bristled brush. Don't use a hose or running water.

    About the weight discrepancy, it could be a translation error between the Chinese weigh scale ”Jin” vs kg. Jin and kg sounds similar in their language but aren’t the same. 2 Jin = 1kg which might explain why the stipulated weight of 11+ was double what you weighed in kilogram 5+kg.

      It was an AliExpress store that doesn't seem to exist any longer.
      Since I bought mine, a few things have released:
      - a full hydraulic conversion kit for the 1580, which costs about as much again as the 1580;
      - the huina 1599 which costs 40% more again than the 1580 and appears to have about the strongest linear actuators on any of these toys - could be the best non-hydraulic choice;
      - Double E has made a splash with a bunch of great value machines.
      RC Construction seems to be a growing niche so I'm keeping an eye on the developments.

      A long time. It comes with a little bottle for it and you only use a few drops at a time. It'll last more play sessions than you'll use it, most likely.

      Fair enough. I just went and looked at the EC160E and I don't necessarily agree about it being better - they both use electric actuators, right? It does look better, for sure.
      Certainly, the little Huina here never was state of the art. Cheap, yes. But people have been making hydraulic RCs for quite some years now, even some smaller ones which generally leave the actuator-powered ones in the dust.
      I'm building a better version of my large hydraulic excavator, upgrading the brushed motors to brushless and improving the oil tap servos. There are usually ways to improve these things :)

      Most hydraulic models share the one pump, including my larger scale hydraulic unit. At 5mpa it has about 20kg lift strength now.
      I'm going to do a round-up of gearbox and linear-actuator based excavators. 8 or 10 of them.
      I've got the E568-003 already here and the E010-003 on its way too. That's the one you mentioned with the 9kg boom (7kg arm and 5kg bucket strength, too). The Huina 599 also is coming, so we can put the E010 up against the 599 in a variety of tests.
      I may do hydraulic models in future, but that's a substantially bigger investment and my channel isn't big enough to justify such a thing - yet.
      We'll fill the knowledge gap for these electric ones, though. I've tried to get one of everything currently available.

      Thanks! Re weight, I don't know what to tell you, there. I reported what I weighed and those same scales report 5kg when I weigh a 5kg weight plate, 2.5kg for same and 10kg for same, so they're accurate. I guess manufacturing processes aren't the tightest with these things, but still, a 2kg weight difference? Are you sure yours is 7kg? (not saying it isn't, but 2kg is a big difference between our two units!)

      @RC-TNT sweet. Money saver. How many channels? I plan on doing alot of custom wiring and such. I've been testing engine sounds and it's a method no one uses hehe

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've made a few different engine sound setups myself. At least 5 different kinds: custom arduino one that included reverse beep, smoke control and start up and stop rumble; a diesel one by a UK hobbyist; a couple of cheap Chinese no brand ones; the ess one and duo ones; the Cross RC branded one in my BC8 Mammoth; plus a couple of others I can picture but can't recall names for.
      Though an extra channel can be helpful to change pitch, volume, start/stop and horn sounds, you really only need a y-harness on the throttle channel.
      A channel for winch.
      1 or 2 for diff lock.
      Another for high/low speed.
      For cost effectiveness, the best one I can recommend that does all this is the Flysky GT5: asiate.es/aff?l=150074&i=76070
      The nice thing about the GT5 is that you can buy the FS-A3 and FS-A6 receivers for very little money to add models to the radio. I have several GT5 handsets here and their 20 model memories are mostly full. They're great.

    You didn't measure the strength, you measured the weight of the cab part

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was imperfect but it did measure the strength of each component. The cab sits on the chassis, over the tracks. That's on the ground. We're measuring the arm pulling up, away from the ground.

    • @norro21
      @norro21 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RCTNT but you hadn't pinned it down to the ground, the only thing holding it down was leveraging against its own weight

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @norro21 the chassis was being pressed into the ground. The arm was trying to lift. The scale measures the pull upward from the ground anchor in this case.
