If you think that generally, when you bend copper pipes for a central heating system, you'd have an internal spring to stop the pipe pinching. The bending tool will also slide over the outside of the angle to form it, not just bend it round a form. With a tiny diameter pipe like that, any bending force will probably make it collapse. You did really well with the ones you did. Ive no idea how you stop that happening with such a thin wall, and tiny bore!! I absolutely love this kind of project. No real instructions to follow, and make it as you want it. Brilliant. 👍🏻
Thanks Rob! Great to hear from you, too. It's been a while, hope you're well. Maybe the small size of the pipes is what helps them bend better? The atomic structure of the metal is the same, whether it's a small pipe or a big pipe, so the walls are relatively more dense than with larger diameter stuff. Could be something to do with that, I dunno. Came up well, anyway!

Not my area of expertise at all, but I want to try to make a cage for one of my crawlers, so I need to bend small diameter tube, etc, for that, so I guess I'll find out! 😆 That, and learning how to braze/ solder that kind of stuff. @@RCTNT as for being well, unfortunately I've been off sick for 3 months, after a severe gallbladder infection, and waiting to have it removed. Lots of scans, blood tests, and a biopsy, and my case being referred to Kings College Hospital in London, and I found out last week, I have a tumour on my liver. Not as serious as it could possibly be, and should be very treatable, but still a lot to get my head around. Thank goodness for all you guys making videos to keep my time off occupied. 😉👍🏻

Have been looking at a variety of different RTR excavator models and scratch build videos with great interest but need to really finish off a few of my other projects before taking the plunge into RC construction machinery. Looking forward to seeing Your test results, keep doing Your thing, always makes me smile when I see You have a new upload and really appreciate your no nonsense approach. I'm sure You will have fun with the excavator but be careful in Your summer months not to cook the machine! might be worth slapping a temperature monitor on the tank to avoid any issues due to thermal expansion. Also check all your interconnections and fittings on the hydraulic circuits after use and again after it has cooled down, You really don't want a leak, it is surprising how large an area gets gunged when you release hot hydraulic oil under pressure and it is a bit of a bugger to clear up. Have fun using it to build Your own tracks, crawler obstacles and weeding the garden.

That's a cool trick! My bending jig did the job but without access to such a tool, that's a smart way to prevent it collapsing, nice one! (*talcum powder, if anyone is reading and not understanding)
I had esc issues on my tram aswell,so now I'm running indiviual esc's now.I use a bendy straw from a fruit box or up & go to fill my hyd tanks.I'm having overheating issues with mine aswell and will be fitting a radiator,I also feel it may due to the size of the machine and no ventilation.
Watching you go through the electrics with such certainty makes me thing you can work out a current issue a lot of us are having at the moment. Please can you look into how we can keep the stock TX/RX and light system on the RGT intruder and run a fusion in it. Thanks in advance from everyone trying to work this out.
Can't be done with the stock receiver, I'm sorry. The receiver doesn't have a throttle input channel, simple as that. Replace the receiver with another flysky BS receiver (which you can't currently buy except with an RTR) and then yes, you're good. But you don't need a Fusion. Get a quality motor instead like a Holmes Hobbies 40T Torquemaster Pro, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the difference it makes.
I would so love some to do a 1/8 scale carhauler that way 1/10 can be loaded…and I mean full hydraulic’s and sliding ramps pull down chains to secure your load.
Tradelink for copper pipes and brazing equipment. Plus you'll learn a new skill if you don't know how to braze. Cool little excavator though. So many toys, such little time. [23:40] make a "just the tip" joke here at your own discretion 😂
Haha right, yes! Good call on diy, and there's youtube to help as well. Though for these pipes I misspoke. It is simply solder that's used, for these little connections. Even easier!
I have all of those here, and more. We'll literally do that comparison soon. But the 1550 and 35 use internal gears that are far weaker than the linear actuators in the stock 1580, FWIW. I have the 1535, or 1550 v1. The 1550 is the V2 version, the one that has the extras. The 1580 comes with 3 attachments, too, but has linear actuators instead of those plastic gears.

If I'm not mistaken, Aaron, from RC Sparks mixes the pump's and the valves channels so the pump comes on with the valves inputs. Is it possible/advantageous in your setup? You mentioned you set 2 speeds for the pump. Why exactly? Doesn't the continuously variable openings of the valves provide proportional speed for the boom/arm/... movements? (I hopes your understands mine engrish😅) Thanks in advance for your answer! 🙏
Thanks, it was a fun build. As you can imagine, I had quite a lot of footage to cut to bring this video to its current form. That included an electronics 101 section, a demonstration on testing the original board for faults to determine the problem, troubleshooting the radio system for the tracks, a full review of the electronic soldering iron... and a discussion on the merits of mixing the pump with the hydraulic system channels vs running it separately on a switch! I went with the switch for simplicity and also for a more linear response on the sticks. If you mix it with the pump, it spins up the more you actuate the sticks (though you can mix it to be 100% once any of the sticks are away from a neutral position). The issue with the gradual approach is that you get very little movement, then a tiny bit more, then heaps all at once. Having it on a switch gives you more predictable stick control, basically. Related to that, having two speeds was a case of "because I could", the idea being something like a dual rate limiter on stick response: run it at half power and your stick inputs will be slower, which is easier for a beginner. You do sacrifice some hydraulic power though, so really you want full speed when using the thing. A radiator is going to help. I've got it here and am just thinking about where to cut the body and fit a mesh shield to keep it looking pretty whilst still allowing air flow. Gotta clean the wiring up a bit too. Cheers!

Cool project! Construction equipment always seems cool and takes me back to childhood with the Tonka toys. I'm not sure if those were a US thing or maybe they were branded differently there. Have you added the oil cooler or will we learn its fate in a future video? :)
Haven't added the cooler yet but it's on the way. I'll neaten the wiring too. Yeah we had Tonka here too. Fun memories of tip trucks and fresh water creeks on Fraser Island growing up 😊

Why didn't you get a double E Volvo 360e hydraulic excavator. $3 thousand dollars and is to scale. A huina is not to scale. Put it beside a Tamiya truck trailer. The huina looks stupid besides it or on a trailer try DOUBLE E Hobby's mate get you some adults toys an stop playing with diecast crap . Sorry to kill ya vib mate. I think you're doing a disservice to the hobby to gatekeep with brands like this. There are many who start with Huina and who are on a tight budget. Something like this is within reach where the pricier stuff simply isn't. Gotta start somewhere!
Brilliant video again. I don't own any construction rc's but find them fascinating. Could the overheating issue be down to too much oil in the system? I'm assuming the oil will heat up under friction and then expand. If the expansion over pressurises the tank, would this further cause more heating and exacerbate the problem? Maybe drop the volume of oil? I'm no hydraulic engineer, so tell me to shut up if I'm talking crap. Obviously the oil cooler is a must in the real world, so must be in RC too. But in the meantime, is it worth a try to reduce the volume?🤷♂️
You're half right, it does heat from friction. But it doesn't expand almost at all, that's a critical element in its design. The problem with heat is that it's viscosity drops, hence the need for a radiator. I've sourced one and it's ready to install, so I'll get to that soon.
Ok, so I have all the linear actuated excavators I could get my hands on, including the full range of Double E (2 or 3, however many it is) and most of the Huinas (7 or 8 of them). I've not powered up the strongest Double E yet but I have tested the 1599, which is similar money. The hydraulic is stronger on this little modded unit, I'm pretty sure, but there's not a lot in it. What I'm planning is to group these things into three categories: cheapest ones with the exposed gears around the hinge points, then the mid range ones, then the couple of expensive ones (Double E E010-003 and Huina 1599). I'll test the hydraulic 1580 here in that last group, as the total expenditure is similar, if I little higher with the conversion. I've got a few tests in mind to make these three videos useful and interesting, so we'll get a more informed answer at that point. For today, I'd say get the Double E if you like the look of it. I think it's the best looking of the lot, and there are hydraulic conversion kits available for it (and DIY isn't overly complex, if you followed along alright in this video). Cheers

I used the MAGOMHR kit,more time consuming than complex and my hard lines are waiting for me to get off my arse to fit them.

For bending you may fill the pipes with talk powder squeeze as much as you can inside and then bend them.

Compare your modified 1580 to stock 1550 or 1535 they’re basically the same thing but the 35 has three attachments
