The recipe looks amazing! Anything he ate growing up or made for you when you were growing up would be awesome. Otherwise I'd also love to see a recipe for whole steamed fish.
I would love to see some fall winter dishes. The kind of stuff that wants you up like soups etc. I don't know a lot of dishes but I would like to learn more about seasonal food.
I'm a British Born Chinese, my father is currently in hospital with a stroke. his currently requesting this exact spare-rib recipe. I tried getting an ingredient list from him and I can say this is about 95% there. I just like to say how much I appreciate your videos, this moment in time. I don’t understand how anyone can give a thumbs down on any of his videos.. He’s through, very specific on each dish and a sweet man! Plus his son does a wonderful job with the voice over..Honestly, where can you find fault with these videos... smh!
Ahhh thank you for the love Brian! That really makes my day to read and makes it all worthwhile! Appreciative of your support and excited to share more with you 😊🙌
I’m glad that I found this channel! I don’t get to listen to Cantonese much nowadays outside of my family. Watching your dad cook and learning about the culture of the food warms my heart a lot. Thank you for all the work you and your family does to create this content!
We're so glad you found us! I'm glad you're enjoying the cooking and culture as well :) This was so heartwarming to read - thank you for sharing these kind words with us!
Me too!! Hearing canto makes me feel like home. This is one of my most favorite dishes. I braise mine but I found a recipe I can follow for the steam method.
Oh wow! That's such a compliment to him. I'm super proud of my dad and glad to hear that you are enjoying his teachings so much! Can't wait to share even more recipes with you in the future.
Your Dad is so awesome! He's so detailed in describing the ingredients and steps in his recipes. My Dad was a great cook too. However, I never took videos of him cooking or wrote down his recipes. He recently passed 2 months ago. It's great you're sharing your Dad's recipes with us, as well as experiences with your parents. You're a great son!😋👍
Thanks Mimi ❤️ I am sorry for your loss. It's really special for us to create the videos. We are so happy to hear how much you are enjoying them. Hope that they bring happy memories of your father every time you watch. Wishing you and your family a Happy New year and we can't wait to keep sharing more with you!
I am third generation Chinese and love your channel! Thank you for doing this and sharing your father’s cooking secrets and practices. I thoroughly enjoy the lessons and interactions with your great family! Mahalo!
I finally got a chance to make this for dinner tonight. It was REALLY GOOD! The touch of orange flavor really makes the dish. Thanks for sharing your family's recipes. Your Dad is a good teacher.
This must be a labor of love. You get content, you talk with your parents and document old family cooking. Best of all world! Your dad is also a great instructor.
After years of being on TH-cam, I've never felt compelled to comment on a video or channel until now. The love your dad puts into his food is amazing. I used his spare ribs recipe today and hope to try his other recipes as well. Please continue doing what you're doing. * Spare ribs came out really good!
Hello Family Lau !! I am so happy I stumbled onto your channel! I subscribed immediately .... my parents have passed and what you’re doing here Randy takes me down memory lane . I missed the stories and my weekend dinner times with my parents and grandparents . My family came from Canton and the life your mom described is what I have heard from my grandparents and my parents. It was not an easy life and I appreciate all the love and sacrifices they made for my brothers and I. I am so enjoying Daddy Lau’s tutorials ! Now, I have a virtual teacher, one of the best !! He explains the techniques and the tips , secrets is what I value the most ! I love the great effort you’re putting into this channel . Very very well done 👍👍👍 . This channel is now my go to channel for Cantonese cooking ! I will be teaching my children how to become top home-cook chefs via Daddy Lau. They have left home now and they keep asking how to .... so now they will get links to Daddy Lau’s videos! Hopefully one day soon, I will be in your mom’s position.....holding my grand baby while everyone eats. Your parents are so precious to watch as they cuddle Cam Cam. In your family , your dad cooks. In my family, I am the cook. Maybe I can train my hubby by using your daddy’s videos 😉😉 so I can have more play time with babies. I won’t miss my Chinese restaurants too much now that Daddy Lau is showing me how to create tasty dishes during Covid. Randy, you have a beautiful family , and you recognized that the greatest gift to Cam Cam is the warmth of multi generational family love. You’re showing us how to keep it going for another generation .... and that is rainbow and pot of gold we deposit in our hearts. Please keep dad working in his retirement by producing more videos, he has a lot to teach us ! Thanks for great video production 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Oh my goodness Berniece this is by far one of the most touching comments we've ever gotten. We are so so grateful that you found our channel and are enjoying the videos. We are so excited to be sharing these recipes with you and hopefully your children and husband 😆 I hope the day will come when you have a grandbaby to hold and play with. Cam Cam has brought so much joy to our family and between his birth and creating these videos my family has become so much closer. We love being able to share memories together and I am so grateful that Cam and our future children will have these memories with their grandparents + be able to learn about our culture. Thank you again for all of your kind words. It means so much to me and my entire family to know how much you are enjoying our videos! Sending our best and a Happy New Year!
The Lau’s provide restaurant quality cooking secrets that cant be found anywhere else. Chinese Cooking Demystified is a great channel also, but Grandpa Lau would win a cooking battle against any Chinese YTer any day of the week imo. Please keep up the amazing work. I love your cooking channel!
Wow restautant secrets! I love the post cooking family meal and explanation, where your parents share family stories about traditions. Especially when it is in Cantonese. Love your parents, they are so cute.
My grandfather used to cook this for me, my siblings and my cousins for dinner nearly every night. This with rice 🍚 is all you need. He passed away last year and finding this video brings up a lot of memories in which we now cherish. RIP Goong Goong ❤️
I made it today with all the exact ingredients. I actually have my own stash of tangerine peels. My husband said it’s better than dim sum restaurant. Thank you Daddy Lau and Randy.
WOWWWW that's amazing! Great job in cooking the dish at home. That's incredible you already have a stash of tangerine peels. We hope you and your husband enjoy it as a treat often!
My mother in law and I low key have this battle of who cooks best and I know that when she tastes my food she low key wonders how I got so good at cooking. She don't know that I got me some daddy Lau on the side! I was doing well till my husband ratted me out. I love you daddy Lau!
You are most welcome Dana! So grateful to hear that you enjoy hearing the Cantonese with English explanations. Appreciate your support and can't wait to keep sharing more recipes with you!
As a cantonese, I have been eating steamed ribs for years but never learnt to cook one to the most familiar flavor. Thank you so much for making this video to teach me how to make one and I cannot wait to try it again. Moreover, I start to appreciate how my parents prep the food with lots of wisdoms. They know why they are doing it but I never listened LOL
This is the best cantonese cooking program I have ever seen. I am a Malaysian Cantonese. Your editing and subtitles and text is a winning point. That special family love and bonding with your mum, dad, your baby and wife is so lovely. Your conversation with your mum & dad makes me want to share all your videos with my YIP clan in Malaysia. I learn so much watching your dad cooking. I will rate your videos 5 star. Best regards and love from Mike Yip & Family.
Thank you so much Mike Yip & Family 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♀️ We are so happy that you found our channel and have been enjoying everything from the dishes to the conversation and subtitles! We hope you are able to make and enjoy some of our dishes soon. Thank you for watching and supporting. Sending our best from our family to yours! ❤️
I'm Romanian, dating a Chinese man, and I learn to make chinese food. And this channel has helped me a lot. I just made the ribs today for the first time and all I can say is that they are amazing 👏 I didn't expect to make them so good from first try. Your dad has explained everything so well. Thanks ! 😊😊😊
Thank you for the love! So glad you're enjoying the background as well :) I miss dim sum so much and all the waitresses who used to call me leng jai 😭😂
Lau family- great story....I was craving dim sum so hubby took me on a trip to Chicago. Wow so many restaurants and banks lol. We found a dim sum restaurant with lines to get in, but it wasn’t too long. We ordered many dishes to try. The place was packed and noisy with the big family groups, servers banging steam pots, waiters calling for bus boys,, people on line,,,, I was happy as a CLAM, till I asked my hubby how he was enjoying, and he was fast asleep, sitting up with his arms crossed on his chest. My family is the “loud family” so we grew up with shouting and laughing and trying to talk over the din.We all got used to the bignoise and it put us all to sleep. It was exciting to see my husband had grown accustomed to our loud family even if it was in a dim sum restaurant.
This program is perfect especially for novice cooks as the explanation is detailed & precise. All family members are partners in the execution - very warm!
Is so refreshing to hear Cantonese. The title of the recipe made me subscribed even before I start the video and the Cantonese is a bonus. Thank you for uploading.
Listening to Lao Pa Pa 刘伯伯 speaks Cantonese, it is very close to my heart ❤️ Lao Ma Ma asks good questions that helps a lot. Thank you so much for making this channel. Greetings from Finland
I love how homey and welcoming yall make these videos. The explanations and breakdowns are a very nice addition too. Visually these videos are beautiful as well :)
awww thank you so much Xuan! We really appreciate the kind words :) So glad to hear that the warmth translates on video!! Are there any recipes you want to see next?
@@MadeWithLau no not specifically I'm not Chinese so I don't know very many homemade traditional Chinese dishes but I love to watch your videos and learn about your culture :) I appreciate that!
Love your channel! My wife and I are 3rd and 4th Gen Guangzhou immigrant families. Our Cantonese is very bad and watching the vids is helping our language skills. Your family is adorable and the recipes are so delicious.
Less Fluff PLEASE!!!!!! Just let your dad talk and do his thing PLEASE!!!!! I never had to use the next chapter button as much as I have to here. Daddy Lau, thanks so very much for sharing your knowledge!!
I am really enjoying learning the authentic recipes .. being a Chinese person born in Malaysia and migrated to Australia 30 years ago - I have lost touch with how to cook my Cantonese favourites. Please extend my gratitude to your parents :) ... love listening to the chit chat after the cooking lesson - reminds me of my parents whom I can no longer seek advice from. Xie Xie Ni ...
Thank you so much Lizzie 🙏🏼 We are so grateful that you found our channel, and it is helping you feel reconnected to your roots! Happy New Year to you and your family. We can’t wait to continue sharing many more recipes with you! ❤️
I'm so glad the youtube algos recommended this channel, I love food and I love my culture. Listening to Cantonese with English subtitles are really helping me learn the language while watching food. Thank you so much for giving us authentic recipes and for educating us
Yay! We are so grateful that you found our channel too Bianca! So glad that you are able to enjoy both the food and listening to Cantonese. We can't wait to keep sharing more with you!
Thanks for the video. Like StarryzSnow said, I miss the Cantonese chatter. My Chinese mother passed away 20 years ago, she used to cook Cantonese food too.
Hi Anne! We are so grateful that you found our channel. It's really special for me to make these videos and record my parents. I'm happy that they mean so much for you too! ❤️
Love these dishes.. all my HK favorites .. Thank u so much Daddy Lau and Randy.. Amazing job is preserving your dads legacy.. my best wishes and please continue sharing the love.. after all food, music and love binds us all and brings cultures closer.
i used to live in HK in the late 70 and I love the Cantonese food, when I came to USA I tried a lots of Chinese restaurant but some how it did not taste the same, six months ago I ran across your video and I started to cook like the way your dad show now I can enjoy Cantonese food again and the good thing is you do it at home. thank you so much for sharing.
Same here! I miss the waitresses calling me leng jai 😂 Thank you so much for sending your love from Malaysia! We have sent you love from San Francisco as well :) We really appreciate it!
I can't wait to try this recipe. My dad made something similar when I was growing up. He has since passed away. My dad was a man of few words, and we would have to run the restaurant while he cooked our dinners, so watching how he made the dishes wasn't always an option. I've come across your videos in hopes of bringing back my childhood dishes. This for me is "soul food."
Your time will come! I'm sure many viewers appreciate your videos. I admire the father and son relationship, so much love; it is a true pleasure watching your videos!!! Thank you.
Love this video so much. The parents in the video really reminded me of my parents - the way they talk to each other, and the way the mom sometimes is a go between between father and child, etc. My dad was a chef for decades, too, and I would always ask him for recipes, and he would explain them to me much like the way Daddy Lau does. I also love the background info, stories from the past, and subtitles. They're providing much joy and instruction for this novice Canto speaker/reader. Thanks so much for this channel. This was the first video I watched from it, but it won't be the last.
Aw yay! 🥰🥰🥰 Welcome to our channel Melanie! We are so grateful that you found us. So happy that mom and dad can remind you of your own parents. Hope you are enjoying some of the other videos we have on our channel. Just finished wrapping up our next recipe. Can't wait to share with you tomorrow!
Very interesting conversation at the end about marinating. I feel it has become quite common for youtube chefs to say marinate over night. To hear a proper chef say not to do that with certain things is insightful.
Sound like you only started to be interested in learning how to cook from your dad recently, I could feel he is so happy to teach you perhaps has been waiting for these moments to teach you all these years. What a patience and lovely father you have! 😊👍👍👍
Thanks for your channel. I'm Cantonese too. Old family recipes here. I also use Kum Pei (dried orange peel) for steamed fish too. In Singapore and Malaysia, we use dried orange peel in red bean soup as well - Hong Dou tong.
Another great recipe! Loved the conversation at the end as always! I would love to see a recipe on how to do Cantonese style meats like char siu at home. Would be great to see if your dad has some pro tips for the home kitchen!
Thanks for the continued support and love Kenneth! We really appreciate it :) Great suggestions! char siu is a really popular one that we plan on doing soon! I really want to share some of his tips for the kitchen too - I'd love to learn as I start cooking more for our kids!
I agree with StarryzSnow 110%!!! I also like watching this because it is done in half Cantonese and English. Chef Daddy Lau is just like my grandma in terms of his cooking, and like my dad in terms of his explanation. I luv how you film your parents having simple conversations that most Asian families have in their households. I also like your mom's explanations -- very helpful and detailed! During this pandemic, I am finding myself cooking more of the foods I grew up with....I enjoy this channel very much...thank you!
Thanks so much Betty! So grateful to hear that you enjoy hearing both the Cantonese and English. Also appreciate hearing that you enjoy the simple conversations in our home. It's a lot of fun to record these because we just sit, talk and have a good time. Grateful to know that you enjoy watching!
So glad to have found this channel. It can highly recommended in a Cantonese cooking group on Facebook. I not only use it to learn cooking but I also use it to keep up with my Cantonese. My parents passed away a number of years ago and my siblings have moved away from my city so I have no one left to speak Cantonese with as my wife is from Taiwan and we speak mostly Mandarin and English at home. These dishes bring back so many memories of what my mom made for our family. Such warm and wonderful smells, tastes, and memories.
Is there any chance that daddy Lau can make a video speaking Toisan? That will really take me back home! Enjoying all the videos and how genuine and passionate your dad is with cooking. Wish there is a chinese comfort food restaurant in NYC!
I grew up eating this dish, and now I can finally try to recreate it! 😂 Also, highlight of the vid, when Daddy Lau gave the glare of disappointment when his son marinades his meat overnight 🤣
I may not understand a single Chinese word from your Dad but his cooking spoke a thousand words of valuable & enjoyable Chinese Food. Thank you for sharing
Totally agree with home style cooking vs restaurant style cooking with taste vs appearance for more sales, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this lol,
Haha yes that was very insightful to hear! I think the same could be said with a lot of other dishes, even outside of Chinese cuisine. And as a semi-related tangent, it's amplified with our Instagram culture. Not that it's a bad thing to celebrate how beautiful food looks and to spend time styling it (I definitely do that for our videos), but it's definitely become an even more important aspect of the food industry nowadays.
@@MadeWithLau there are tons of ways to “modify” foods to make them mote photo worthy, but oh boy they don’t help the taste much! And unfortunately appearance and style creepy their way into recipes and alter the traditional tastes but still get called “authentic” and “traditional” and unfortunately give a misconception to many dishes, some dishes just don’t need to be pretty to be absolutely delicious, and if their delicious, it’s sure not pretty when you’re shoveling it into your mouth haha, maybe you guys could post a video about Cantonese salted fish and pork or pork belly, a very bold example of something drop dead delicious, but not as pretty, (or good smelling initially if you get the REAL salted fish lol)
@@HATINTHEKAT Totally agree! So much good food out there that doesn't necessarily photograph well haha. Great suggestions on the dishes - added to our list of things to make next :)
@@MadeWithLau I got a comment about how unappealing some lo mai gai was because it is of course not the most beautiful and dynamic dish, but I love it!
I love the explanation that your folks give. How they explan the use of the peels, how to care for the ribs, the explanation of baking soda and etc.. It reminds me of my conversation with my Mom. The questions that Randy ask are similar to the ones I would also ask. My Mom recently passed away this past May and watching these videos reminds me of all the special conversations I use to have with her. I operate a food business and I would always ask Mom for feedback and advice with new dishes. She would always share origin stories about the dish, the variations, the techniques involved, the hacks/shortcuts if possible and how to simplify the dish for commercial purposes. Thank so much for creating this type of content for all of us ABCs that grew eating these types of dishes...long overdue Randy and your doing an amazing job! 🙏🏼
when using baking soda you dont want to marinade for too long or else it will make the meat mushy, you can also rinse the baking soda off after marinading to further reduce the alkalinity
I almost started crying after watching the congee video 'cos my grandparents are also from Toisan. Your dad totally reminds me of my grandfather. This is definitely my new favourite cooking channel. It's so informative and I can't wait to make these recipes at home too.
Oh wow Laura 🥺 It's an honor to hear that our videos remind you of your grandparents Laura. Food is so connected with family and memories. We hope that each new video we share brings back even more happy memories with your grandparents ❤️ Thank you for watching and wishing you and your family a Happy New Year!
This channel is pretty special, in that you feel warm and good inside listening to the stories while watching them eat around the table. Heartwarming stuff
Whoaaaa how’d you know all the questions I had during cooking portion????? It was the most perfect follow up segment if I’ve ever seen one. I never knew why threw in cornstarch lol New to the the channel but now obsessed with all the factual breakdowns you’ve included and love the half canto half English rhythm. Feel right at home
Omg that's so awesome to hear! Glad all of the Q&A during mealtime was helpful :) So grateful to have you here and following along with our fam. Hope the videos continue to feel like a bit of home 🙌❤️
I just discovered this channel and love it. Thank you Mr. Pau. Your detailed procedure, the additional info you offer which I normally don't see in other channels makes me feel you are talking directly to me. What a great skill. Thank you all of you for a great video.
I love this dish and I find these videos so great, I grew up in Hong Kong and can understand Cantonese and hearing your Dad here makes me feel so at home again Thank you
Your father is very gentle and kind. Your son is a good baby very gentle like the grandpa he will grow up to be a great man. Your family are well blessed.
Your dad reminds me of my late grandfather who was also an amazing Cantonese cook! I also love the discussions you have after the cook too! Hearing him talk kinda makes me feel like I'm listening to my grandfather. Thank you so much for all your content!
Omg! I made this for dinner last night and served it over steamed rice. My son and his fiancee were blown away! I doubled the recipe and increased the cooking time to be sure the ribs were cooked thoroughly. They were so tender and flavorful. Thank you so much for sharing.
Every time I watch an episode of channel, I think of my dad’s (RIP) cooking, and how much I miss it and him. He would make whatever I ask. One of my guilty favorite is steamed pork belly with ginger, scallion, and fermented shrimp paste @Lau - This is more than a cooking show. It is oral history and a family treasure. Please do an episode on the pork belly and shrimp paste.
Oh wow we are so honored that each episode brings back warm memories of your dad. We would love to do that recipe in the future. I'll add it to our list! Thank you so much for your kind words about the channel. It's an honor to do these videos and be able to capture not only the food, but also my parents stories and culture.
I made this tonight for dinner and it was such a big hit. There are 5 people in my family so I doubled the recipe which defaulted for 4 people, and the plate was nothing left over. The flavour was nicely balanced and black beans were not overpowering. The website for the recipe is really professionally done as you can enter the number of serving and it will adjust the recipe for you. You can also switch between metric and empirical... which I love. So much work and effort has been put into making this video and the website. I love how there's a always a bit of historical background. Honestly guys... how can any 1 give a thumb down. Thank you for making the video and keep up the good work. Hope to see a video and how to make hong kong flaky custard tarts one day. 🥰
For anyone just casually watching and haven't had this dish...let me tell you the umami is extraordinary. You've essentially marinaded and steamed the spare ribs in the black bean. I can't think of another more potent flavor than a fermented black bean. It's the king of punch-you-in-the-mouth-umami.
It's amazing how you document and capture your dad's recipes. Thank you so much, chef Lau! I kind of understand your dad's language, it helps with refreshing my Cantonese. Cute baby!
I'm so happy you made this channel. My husband's family is from Hong Kong but my husband doesn't cook. With your dad's recipes I can cook the Cantonese dishes my husband and children love
By far, I’ve made 3 dishes from watching this channel. I’m so inspired by Mr. Lau’s amazing recipes! I’ll keep watching & keep my family happy by cooking more authentic Chinese food.
Thank you so much for your father to share his chef knowledge, please put more recipes! Especially I am from Hong Kong. It is better I learn from your father then some TH-camr
Thank you Uncle that I found ur vlog about cooking. I already tried the yam cake we all love it. My Hubby got surprised on how did I know, secret😀 God bless you all🙏
First of all, thank you for all my favorite dishes Mr. Lau . It reminds me of my dad’s cooking. I don’t live in Boston anymore, and I don’t have a Chinese community near me so I’m so happy to listen to him speak and converse while eating, (it refreshes my memory) Now I can prepare these dishes at home and reminisce living at home with my parents. (I save all his cooking videos) Thank you so much! By the way, your grandson is a 😊
I love this video of your father speaking cantonese and showing step by step cooking instructions. Very helpful! Where can I find that wide wok your father uses to steam food?
Thnk you so much dluvfood! We are so grateful you found our channel. Here is a link to a wok most similar to the one we are using for the videos: amzn.to/365xFRX
Nice channel. It's a great opportunity to learn from a real chef. Nice to hear Cantonese instructions too, really authentic, and it's great to hear about looks vs taste. Not marinating overnight is a revelation.
I just made this today and it was delicious. I will be making this again. My grand parents passed away 5 years ago. This recipe brings back my Yeh Yeh and Ma- Ma's memories.
I happened to bum on Mr Lau's channel and loved it.Totally agreed with him that home and restaurant cooking methods differ. His style of cooking is more realistic and suitable. Presumed Mr Lau is from Southern China as he used dried tangerine peels. Mr Lau please cook more as I have run out of ideas and recipes 👍👍👍
Mr. Lau.. You make me remember all those great food while I work in Guangzhou and Shunde China.. One of the dim sum dishes is black beans ribs.. Thank you
I tried it today, and it was fabulous! 😄 It’s like I was eating a high class Chinese restaurant version of this dim sum house dish. I had to substitute the dried black beans for the salted preserved version in a bottle, as I couldn’t find any, so I cut the salt by half, and it came out perfect. 😊💕 will definitely repeat this dish. Thank you Daddy Lau 😄💕
I’ve been binging in your dad’s recipes and love how you show some history about these dishes. And I appreciate when you explain the more complex Chinese words as well. My Cantonese is not that great being born and raised outside Asia, and my parents wouldn’t talk to me in Cantonese.
Omg! I loved watching your dad cook! Reminds me of my dad cooking spare ribs but I don’t think he uses tangerine peel. I love hearing the Cantonese and seeing all the translations. It was very informative to learn about drying the peels as my dad dries his own too but I never asked him about it before. Hearing about the science of how everything works is nice! Thanks for deep diving into everything!
Wow, we are so grateful that you found our channel, that you enjoy hearing the Cantonese, seeing the translations + hearing us did into the history and science. It means a lot to know how much you enjoy it all. Hope you and your family are having a wonderful New Year. We can’t wait to continue sharing many more videos with you in the future! ❤️
Your dad and your videos are good. My dad owned his own restaurant Chinese but the best food was at home and he doesn’t share his recipe and is also Cantonese and cooks amazing food like you dad. Being an ABC this serious the best Cantonese cooking online! Thank you to you and your dad for all you do!

I finally got a chance to make this for dinner tonight. It was REALLY GOOD! The touch of orange flavor really makes the dish. Thanks for sharing your family's recipes. Your Dad is a good teacher.
Ahhh that's so amazing to hear! Thank you so much for trying our recipes! So glad to hear that you enjoyed it :) Any recipes you want to see next?
This must be a labor of love. You get content, you talk with your parents and document old family cooking. Best of all world! Your dad is also a great instructor.
Great big labor of love. Feel very grateful to be able to record, learn and share with you!
I really enjoy your channel! Your dad really does a great job with instructions, and your editing and subtitles are on point!
Thank you so much Gannon! We really appreciate the love and kind words :) Are there any recipes you'd like to see next?
Like many Cantonese dads being great cooks, your dad reminds me of my dad from watching these videos! Def will try his recipe!
So grateful to hear that Monica! We appreciate you watching and can't wait to share many more videos with you in the future 🥰
This is the part of the internet that I absolutely love please don't stop making these videos. They are great
I love the family environment, where 3 generations bond over a home cooked meal. Where elders are treated with love and respect.
Can he show how to make dimsum. I love that recipe.
@@JT-xd9uc "Dim sum" is a whole *genre* of teahouse snacks - you *must* be more specific here...
Love your videos. It's helping me brush up my Cantonese too!
Thank you for the love Julian! We really appreciate it :) Glad it's helping with your Cantonese (mine too!)
My mother in law and I low key have this battle of who cooks best and I know that when she tastes my food she low key wonders how I got so good at cooking. She don't know that I got me some daddy Lau on the side! I was doing well till my husband ratted me out. I love you daddy Lau!
seeing grandparents with the grand child makes me happy.
Thank you for sharing the recipe. I enjoy hearing authentic Cantonese with English explanations.
You are most welcome Dana! So grateful to hear that you enjoy hearing the Cantonese with English explanations. Appreciate your support and can't wait to keep sharing more recipes with you!
Ho heck!!! Randy you have made your dad into a STAR CHEF online!!! Much appreciation!
I enjoy the little chat session at the table with your dad. Always makes me smile and learn new things!
@@MadeWithLau Thank you. Keep your shows and dishes coming. May God bless you and your dear family.
I'm Romanian, dating a Chinese man, and I learn to make chinese food. And this channel has helped me a lot.
I just made the ribs today for the first time and all I can say is that they are amazing 👏 I didn't expect to make them so good from first try.
Your dad has explained everything so well. Thanks ! 😊😊😊
This looks amazing - and I love how you go through the history of dishes and the background. And it made me CRAVE dim sum!
Thank you for the love! So glad you're enjoying the background as well :) I miss dim sum so much and all the waitresses who used to call me leng jai 😭😂
@@MadeWithLau bc you are! Lol 😉 😉 It sure beats getting called muimui made me always feel like the runt in the pack.
😆 I'll take anything to be able to do dim sum again
Hi
This program is perfect especially for novice cooks as the explanation is detailed & precise. All family members are partners in the execution - very warm!
Thank you for the memories of a Chinese kitchen and the conversations. Great!
You are so welcome! Thanks so much for watching :)
Is so refreshing to hear Cantonese. The title of the recipe made me subscribed even before I start the video and the Cantonese is a bonus. Thank you for uploading.
Hi! I was from Hong Kong and missed cantonese cooking a lot, so I made this dish yesterday and it turned out great!
Yay! So glad that you made our recipe and that it turned out amazing 😍 It means a lot to us!
Forgot to say we have the same family name! Go Laus!
Less Fluff PLEASE!!!!!! Just let your dad talk and do his thing PLEASE!!!!! I never had to use the next chapter button as much as I have to here. Daddy Lau, thanks so very much for sharing your knowledge!!
The way how daddy Lau is talking and explaining it let me feeling like home. Thank you for sharing all these videos.
You know hes a chef when he grabs a piping hot steamed plate with his bare hands lol
Haha for real. We bow down to him 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♀️
鐵砂掌
Omg exactly my thoughts!🤣
MY Father was the same way. He never got burned
@@paulm500 My Father too. I'd run my hands under cold water before doing it and he would make fun of me :-).
Love all the history tidbits in the video!!
Thank you Stong!
They are priceless. The meal and conversation is unique and very educational. Thanks to Lau for sharing with us and making the videos. Subbed!
This looks delicious! Interesting learning about the effects of rinsing the meat in different ways. Thanks for the info as always!
Thanks for watching Oleg! Glad the info was insightful 🙌
Yeah, I always wondered how the heck they get the meat so tender. Always thought it was all about the wine.
i used to live in HK in the late 70 and I love the Cantonese food, when I came to USA I tried a lots of Chinese restaurant but some how it did not taste the same, six months ago I ran across your video and I started to cook like the way your dad show now I can enjoy Cantonese food again and the good thing is you do it at home. thank you so much for sharing.
The dim sum craving is real 🥺 much love from Malaysia to Chef Daddy Lau and the rest of the fam 🥰
Same here! I miss the waitresses calling me leng jai 😂 Thank you so much for sending your love from Malaysia! We have sent you love from San Francisco as well :) We really appreciate it!
I love your dads knowledge of the techniques. What to do, what not to do! He melts my heart❤️ Thanks for these recipes. I will try them all xxx
Your scientific details reminds me of Alton Brown. Also, I love the Cantonese conversation, too.
Thank you for the kind words! Alton Brown is amazing and an inspiration :) We're glad you're enjoying the conversations as well!
HOW DOES THIS NOT HAVE MORE VIEWS. MAKING THESE VIDEOS MUST BE SO MUCH EFFORT
Haha 🙇🏻♂️ Thank you for the love! That really makes my day to read and makes it all worthwhile! Excited to share more with you 😊
Your time will come!
Thanks! I totally agree. Especially when he roasts me for saying I marinade overnight haha. So many things to learn from my dad!
“I marinate a lot overnight”
“No”
😂😂😂
Daddy Lau knows what he’s doing!!!!
Ahahaha I loved that part (even at my own expense lolol). Thanks for the love!
Ohh ho, funny guy! But my dad says marinate it so you can whip out dinner in no time-also a great tip, maybe?
Chef Lau: *No!* lol
That would make for an excellent t-shirt loooool
So glad to have found this channel. It can highly recommended in a Cantonese cooking group on Facebook. I not only use it to learn cooking but I also use it to keep up with my Cantonese. My parents passed away a number of years ago and my siblings have moved away from my city so I have no one left to speak Cantonese with as my wife is from Taiwan and we speak mostly Mandarin and English at home. These dishes bring back so many memories of what my mom made for our family. Such warm and wonderful smells, tastes, and memories.
I am obsessed with the fermented beans😂 One of my favorite flavors; didn’t know they were soy beans though 💗Thank you for the lovely recipes!
Thanks for the love! Such an awesome flavor and bean :)
Also, highlight of the vid, when Daddy Lau gave the glare of disappointment when his son marinades his meat overnight 🤣
Yay! Hope it turns out amazing for you :) Hahaha yes I totally agree, happy to continue sharing more moments of my dad roasting me lololol
Great tip! Thank you for sharing :)
I'd guess ALL Retired Chinese Chef has Iron Hands, the way he just lift the Hot Plate like it was nothing. My dad does the same way too.
Haha that's how you know how boss they are 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♀️
yea.. my dad's the same too! lol
This channel is pretty special, in that you feel warm and good inside listening to the stories while watching them eat around the table. Heartwarming stuff
Whoaaaa how’d you know all the questions I had during cooking portion????? It was the most perfect follow up segment if I’ve ever seen one. I never knew why threw in cornstarch lol
New to the the channel but now obsessed with all the factual breakdowns you’ve included and love the half canto half English rhythm.
Can you dad do Chinese style vegetarian dish call Buddha’s delight. Please
Oh yes! We wanted to make this year for Lunar New Year but weren't able to make in time. We have on our list to make next year for sure!
I love this dish and I find these videos so great, I grew up in Hong Kong and can understand Cantonese and hearing your Dad here makes me feel so at home again Thank you
Really like how the family communicate. The best seasoning for food is family's love.
Same, reminds me of my late granny too
Thank you so much Chauncey & Jennifer! It's an honor to hear that our videos remind you of such great memories, food, and loved ones!
One of my guilty favorite is steamed pork belly with ginger, scallion, and fermented shrimp paste
@Lau - This is more than a cooking show. It is oral history and a family treasure. Please do an episode on the pork belly and shrimp paste.
Oh wow we are so honored that each episode brings back warm memories of your dad. We would love to do that recipe in the future. I'll add it to our list! Thank you so much for your kind words about the channel. It's an honor to do these videos and be able to capture not only the food, but also my parents stories and culture.
the explanation at 15:10 about how he seals in the marinade with cornstarch is amazing
Your dad reminds me so much of my father. They talk, cook, and look alike. Watching your videos make me wanna spend more time with my dad 🥺❤️
I don’t live in Boston anymore, and I don’t have a Chinese community near me so I’m so happy to listen to him speak and converse while eating, (it refreshes my memory)
Now I can prepare these dishes at home and reminisce living at home with my parents.
Here is a link to a wok most similar to the one we are using for the videos: amzn.to/365xFRX
gosh with how authentic and traditional everything is in these the more i watch them the more they really feel like a privlege to watch.
This is wholesome AF. The way the dad said “no” when his son admitted to marinating too long. Also, they are dropping some knowledge. This is great.
I ❤ Mama & Daddy Lau... baby Cam is so cute. I wish they were my neighbors, I'd love to watch Daddy Lau cook❤
Yay! That makes us so happy to hear Ann! Great job cooking it. We hope this will become a regular in your house like it is in ours 🙌❤️😋
