The LOST Bond Film - The Property of a Lady 1961

  • Before Dr.NO there was The Property of a Lady. Never released for over 60 years, see Sean Connery as 007 in his debut mission, shot in 1961.
Only the most dedicated of fans know that after an early test screening all film negatives were destroyed in a fire by an enraged Albert R Broccoli who retooled the franchise, leaving this film as nothing more than a forgotten footnote in the series.
What you will see is the only remaining footage for "The Property of a Lady".
For those still reading, this is a fan edit made from two early Sean Connery films, Woman of Straw and the Frightened City, which has been colorized.
This was just a fun experiment and is NOT a real Bond film. See if you can make heads or tails from the plot!

I beg to differ. Sean Connery undeniably did a great job as Bond up until Diamonds Are Forever, which, arguably was the worst Bond film.
The bad script didn't help, but Connery just wasn't into it. Never Say Never Again was better than Diamonds and, well, I'll just leave it at that. Well, one final note on Never - best scene was
Fatima Blush: "You know that making love to Fatima was the greatest pleasure of your life."
Connery: "Well to be perfectly honest, there was this girl in Philadelphia - "
      Fatima Blush: "SHUT UP!!!"
Roger Moore WAS 007. From Live and Let Die to A View to a Kill.

@@stuartsharman3055 I never could stand Daniel Craig and can’t understand why anyone embraced him. He is nothing like Fleming’s creation-no panache, flamboyance, larger than life persona, NOTHING. He is good for portraying a Lithuanian hit man, but that’s about all.
Timothy Dalton was the best for me. If one reads Fleming’s novela “The Living Daylights”, it’s easy to see that the actor read and studied Bond by way of Fleming’s drafting of the character-his portrayal is absolutely spot on!
I’m also very partial to George Lazenby for similar reasons-he is very much in tuned to the 007 of Fleming’s excellent OHMSS novel.

@@edwardsullivan8369 Right on. I really liked Hell Drivers. They did speed things up to make it look like they were going faster. There was really quite a star list in that movie. Patrick did Danger Man and later Secret Agent Man. He was offered the role of The Saint but Roger Moore ended up with it. Patrick, like Neal Mcdonough would NOT do love scenes with any actresses. Faithful to their Wives. So it limited roles available to Patrick. McCallum later became a Secret Agent in the Man From Uncle and earlier did marry Jill. Baker being offered the Bond role. Connery became Bond. Patrick and David both did TV Spy roles. Spies were popular in the sixties. It was all great TV.

The Property of a Lady was supposed to be Timothy Dalton's 3rd Bond movie as he was initially contracted to do three films.
However, legal issues around the franchise's ownership and distribution rights ultimately delayed the next Bond movie for over five years.
By the time the next Bond film was released that initial project had been discarded - for a variety of reasons - plus Dalton was no longer interested in a planned reboot of the series as he now needed to sign up to a further four movies.
Certain storylines, initially included in Portrait of a Lady, have since appeared throughout subsequent Bond movies in the Brosnan and Craig years.

"The Property of a Lady” was not written by Ian Fleming. It is actually a novel by Elizabeth Adler. Ian Fleming was also outraged by someone who dared to copy his James Bond creation and wanted the film destroyed! However, Ian Fleming (in his childish spite) used the same title, “The Property of a Lady,” to write a short story featuring his fictional secret agent James Bond.

We need you or someone to make this video with commentary explaining WHY it was not released, and other facts behind the scenes. I see a few elements that are classic Bond formula like when he enters that big house how it plays that Bondesque music, but the fight scene at the end, I could see how the 'villain's' henchman or whomever he was didn't meet the level of muster that we see with Oddjob or Jaws or some of the other bodyguard and assassin types'. He did have a flail.
I did see Bond use his classic "Judo Chop" which when he uses it I say "Judo Chop" and like Captain Kirk I know its going to do some damage or something good. Kirk has the jumping side kick manuver, but Bond has his own signature moves. I also didn't see a few other tale-tell signs of Bond that we see in later movies, even the briefing scene was redesigned a bit. I think they were reworking the formula. I would love a break down of the plot, villain, and other key elements too. We need a Wikipedia for this or a Bond-a-pedia. If that exists, link it.
