@@danieltaylor1494 I believe that British actor Tom Ellis would've made a great Bond, as he has all of the right qualities for that iconic role, but since he is now in his mid forties (and Eon want to sign an actor to a multi-picture contract) he is already a bit too long in the tooth for it. They SHOULD have chosen him for 'Casino Royale' instead of Craig, but it's obviously too late now. It's a shame that Ellis never got the chance to have a crack at it, as I think he would've done a great job, but there you go.
He had the style and, more importantly, the ruthlessness. The "unknown reason" why he refused a promiscuous character was the same as for Neal McDonough: devout Catholicism and a strong sense of monogamy to his wife. Even acting intimate with another woman was/is unacceptable for both, so they ended up in primarily villainous roles. McGoohan's only on-screen kiss was on "Secret Agent/ Danger Man", and the actress who was the recipient was his real-life wife.
@scotiadragoon5974 wow, I've loved the prisoner since it first aired (I was 10!), didn't know that was his wife in real life, learn something new everyday. Thanks. 👌 be seeing you.
Yes he would, I believe his opposition to the promiscuity was due to his strict catholic beliefs, which when looking at the film industry shows a strength of character.
Yes then three it all away, if he hadn't, we never would of got the perfect roger Moore ,who was right for Bond in the 70s just wouldn't of worked with George in live and let die,
There is a good 2017 HULU documentary on George called BECOMING BOND. After reading Ian Fleming, George may have fit the role physically even better than Sean Connery.
In "Ice Station Zebra" McGoohan proved he would have excelled as a serious Bond role- however, he rightly saw the franchise for what it was and instead created the memorable "Prisioner" series which will be discussed for a very long time.....

I think the answer to the question 'who will always be Bond?' depends which Bond you saw first. While I love Sean Connery's take, Roger Moore's movies were the ones endlessly rerun on TV when I was growing up. Moore was my Bond and will always be. But it will always be enjoyable watching different interpretations of the character.

Daniel Craig provided an edge that I truly appreciated and was great in Casino Royale through Skyfall...and I place him a close second (Spectre had some good moments...but No Time To Die failed). Roger Moore was my introduction...and while I loved the campiness of his tenure, it fell flat on the last two films...For Your Eyes Only and Live And Let Die were his best...he places third. I prefer Dalton's Bond in License to Kill slightly over Brosnan's Bond in Goldeneye (the best films for these two)...Dalton was a bit over acted, but didn't rely on gadgets as much, more of a spy...but the scripts were the scripts. And Lazenby was so wooden...I hate that he ruined the film featuring the best Bond Girl...Dame Diana Rigg. Eva Green is 1B...Diana 1A. Glad no Americans have played Bond, and they shouldn't...but I guess we agree that a Scottish Lad was the best. Next up? Maybe Harry Potter? Or how about one of the Dr. Who portrayers? Well done Sprockets!
I realize this video is about actors who were actually offered the part of Bond, and turned it down; but it reminded me of someone who was under consideration at one time: Clive Owen. I think he would have made a great Bond. But I guess the role was not really offered to him.
Richard Burton would have been great! Adam West would have benn... very odd! And yes, Sean Connery was the original, but I liked Pierce Brosnan the most, even more than Daniel Craig.
I was never a big fan of James Bond movies. But I loved Sean Connery and that manly sultry voice he had not to mention his good looks. But I also enjoyed Roger Moore his movies were my favorite ones. Timothy Dalton was just so handsome and so was Pierce Bronson. To me they were good James Bonds. But the one and only Real James Bond to me and always will be is Sir Sean Connery . 🥰
I think Patrick McGoohan, being a strict Roman Catholic, wouldn’t do romantic scenes. Good for him, being true to his faith. Good for Adam West and Burt Reynolds too.
I enjoyed all six actors who were officially cast as Bond, but I would have dearly loved to see Patrick McGoohan in the role. He would have been brilliant, perhaps even the best. I do, however, understand his reasoning for turning down the part. He was a dedicated husband and a devout Catholic. As a married actor myself, I would not want to play a role where I would be called upon to have to kiss a woman who is not my wife, let alone bed multiple women. I can play a killer in a film or TV series because I'm not really killing anyone on set. However, if I kiss a woman on set, I'm really kissing someone who isn't my wife. That's not something I am comfortable doing. Apart from that aspect, McGoohan would have been so good in the role.
For me, Roger Moore was my first Bond film I remember watching in its entirety "Live And Let Die" to be precise. That also had the first James Bond sing I liked. I was 6 years old. I became a Paul McCartney fan and didn't realize he was a Beatle, in spite of growing up listening to them. Silly me liked The Monkees more and thought the Rolling Stones were better. I grew up, thank goodness! I came to love the Beatles and Stones, the learned the Monkees were an assembled band for TV.
As I understand things (obviously, I might be misinformed) they tried to get Roger Moore to play 007 earlier, but he was tied up in his contract for The Saint, so he had to decline. Isn't Christian Bale British, anyway?
This is true, about Roger.....and yes we totally know Bale is British....the American Psycho reference is to the movie he did, called American Psycho where he played a total narcissist dirtbag.... so we were poking fun at that film.
Cary Grant would have NAILED IT!!! Richard Burton wouldn't have been bad, either!! By the By Cary doesn't have an "E" in his name. I'm flattered, though..
Clive Owen really should have been offered the role of James Bond. Even in the Pink Panther with Steve Martin he was 006, and needed one more to make it to the big time.
It seems that they are looking at younger actors who are in their late 20s/early 30s ie Tom Holland the film version of the video game Unchartered could have been Tom Holland's Bond audition Richard Burton, James Mason and Michael Gambon would have been more suited for the role of M and both Stewart Granger and James Mason were both shortlisted for the role of Drax in Moonraker but both were not offered the Drax role because of Moonraker being a UK/France co-production (under the 1965-1979 agreement) which meant that Michael Lonsdale took the part of Drax
@@sprocketsintime I didn't see Kelly's until quite late - an older coworker of mine found out I hadn't and just insisted; he brought the video to me the next day. I was totally blown away. There's just something about it, and they really just don't quite make them that way anymore. There are so many great things about it. Especially Oddball - I can't think of Donald Sutherland without thinking of Oddball. And the Tiger standoff - oh my God that's one of the best scenes in movie history.
Same here, I didn't see it until it was on television but there was something that just drew me to this film. I read how Clint was disappointed on how the director handled the material, but I love the movie. And yes the Tiger Tank sequence is epic and that music for the Tiger Tank...Now I'm thinking I need to do a video on this movie!
@@sprocketsintime Oh, please do. Yeah, I had heard that Eastwood played the whole movie just as straight as an arrow - he really didn't engage in the levity aspect of it much. And we shouldn't forget to give Carroll O'Conner a mention - he added a lot even though he was only in it for a few minutes overall.
In hindsight, Eastwood playing it straight actually works. Yes, agreed, Carroll O'Conner really does bring another level to it. I really like Telly Savalas as Big Joe. While he's a bit of a no nonsense officer, he's willing to listen to his guys. I saw an interview where Donald Sutherland got really sick and they were sure he wasn't going to make it, and the studio flew his wife to Europe, but thankfully, he pulled through.
Wonder why the producers even considered Americans in the role of a British character. Next would be doing a feature on actors who applied for the role of Bond but was turned down. jack Lord was one such actor. He was turned down because he demanded a percentage of the profits, an unheard demand back then. Of all the actors presented in this video, I vote Patrick Mcgoohan and Rod Taylor as the most likely candidates. Never heard of Clint Eastwood being made the offer. As he rightly pointed out, the role should go to someone British, something the producers somehow felt less concerned about. When doing the first Bond, "Dr. No", they approached Roger Moore as Bond. He could not assume the role because he was already committed to doing the now iconic "The Saint" series.
Producers are notorious for chasing fads, trends, etc...someone becomes "hot" they try to capitalize on it. It's interesting to note that the Bond producers were Americans, but common sense tells you, Bond has to be British end of story.
I have a close friend who is one of THE biggest Bond series fans I know, and he *hates* Daniel Craig. Don't know why; I've chosen not to get into the issue with him. I liked Craig, and Brosnan, and also Dalton! Of course, Connery is THE James Bond. IF a Bond fan declared differently, there would be a violence.😳😉 Of those almost-rans, I'd say Cary Grant would have been a good Bond.
Totally agree! I grew up with Roger Moore, my brother hated Moore as Bond because Sean was his Bond, and Sean IS Bond to me as well. But there's nothing wrong with liking your own Bond. I honestly think they never expected the franchise to last this long. The one thing I've learned is you can't please everyone, just choose what you like and the rest is just another person's like or dislike. I feel sad when people just become so angry over it. Thanks for sharing your comment! Welcome to the channel.
Sean Connery. No one else is even close, ..and I agree, Christian Bale is no James Bond...but he is an excellent actor. Dominic West might have been a good Bond. He got that flare.
Being diplomatic I think all the Bond actors had their moments ...everyone is different and therefore injects their own personality into a role. That said I am hoping when a new 007 actor is finally chosen the producers have the films bring back some of the fun (gadgets & witty dialogue) from the older films as Daniel Craig's more recent Bond films have been super-serious. I would like to see the devil-may-care witty and charming super-spy return ! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂
Although all the Bond actors have been pretty great, what do you all think about AI potentially taking over for actors? For instance, imagine AI bringing the next Bond to life in the likeness of any actor. I experimented with this idea and created a concept trailer for a new Bond movie starring an AI-generated Daniel Craig. Based on the results, it feels like we’re getting close to making a full movie with AI! Curious to hear your thoughts.
This is a great post and question, as I have felt for more than 20 years that, eventually, AI would become so good that eventually they would have it so that any actor from any era of time would be available for your future film. Example: Say you want John Wayne in your next western...his estate would offer, you want John Wayne young, middle age, etc...and they would have put every image, word spoken, into a digital data base and like how things are today, put your script in and you're on your way....this way the family still benefits and you can have John Wayne in your movie...obviously provided you stay in the confines of the guidelines set by his estate. Interesting for something like film restoration but I think it might be like Peter Cushing being put back into Star Wars...all you can focus on is the fact you know he's dead and it's digital...so is it really worth it? Just an opinion by me nothing more.
No one can beat Sean Connery he was the best and a true 007 Bong no one cane take his place😍

Wow thanks so much! Those are great ideas! As we love Dr. Who and Harry Potter.
Roger Moore & Sean Connery two best James Bond👍
Roger Moore was a great Bond, but in his autobiography, he called Sean the best 'James Bond'.
James mason looks:like James bond Mcgoohan fits as well
Playing bond would have made most actors very famous
I realize this video is about actors who were actually offered the part of Bond, and turned it down; but it reminded me of someone who was under consideration at one time: Clive Owen. I think he would have made a great Bond. But I guess the role was not really offered to him.
Yes agree Clive Owen would have been a great Bond
Hard to believe that Sean Connery was the 6th choice to play James bond at the beginning.
And Ian Fleming didn’t like him at first
Young Michael Gambon looks like David Thewlis in that photo.
YES!!!!! I totally see it!
Sean is Bond
Richard Burton would have been great! Adam West would have benn... very odd! And yes, Sean Connery was the original, but I liked Pierce Brosnan the most, even more than Daniel Craig.
Richard Burton, wow!
Awesome
😲
Dominic West looks the most like who Ian Flemming described Bond looking like Hoagy Carmichael in the books.
WE❤ABSOLUTELY ❤LOVE ❤YOUR ❤CHANNEL 😊
Thank you so much! Totally just made my day!
Good Show!! 🇬🇧
R0GER WAS THE BEST B0ND EVER!❤😊
My dad always said Patrick mghoon would have been a great bond as he was great in danger man 😅
Christopher Lee was a real life Bond before he became head vampire.
I just wished Christopher Lee had gotten a better Bond film.
@@sprocketsintime
Yeah, me too. Great theme tune though.
Oh yeah, one of the best Bond tunes for sure!
I loved Roger Moore as James Bond!!!!❤❤
For me, Roger Moore was my first Bond film I remember watching in its entirety "Live And Let Die" to be precise. That also had the first James Bond sing I liked. I was 6 years old. I became a Paul McCartney fan and didn't realize he was a Beatle, in spite of growing up listening to them. Silly me liked The Monkees more and thought the Rolling Stones were better. I grew up, thank goodness! I came to love the Beatles and Stones, the learned the Monkees were an assembled band for TV.
Richard Burton as Bond would have been great. He was superb in Where Eagles Dare. Daniel Craig reminds me of him.
Absolutely
I grew up during the Roger Moore’s era but my favourite Bond is Daniel Craig
ME too, I really enjoyed Daniel Craig as well.
Sean Connery is by far the best
As I understand things (obviously, I might be misinformed) they tried to get Roger Moore to play 007 earlier, but he was tied up in his contract for The Saint, so he had to decline.
Isn't Christian Bale British, anyway?
This is true, about Roger.....and yes we totally know Bale is British....the American Psycho reference is to the movie he did, called American Psycho where he played a total narcissist dirtbag.... so we were poking fun at that film.
brilliant
Cary Grant would have NAILED IT!!! Richard Burton wouldn't have been bad, either!! By the By Cary doesn't have an "E" in his name. I'm flattered, though..
Yeah that was one of those, "DOH" moments after the fact typing too fast and then going, awww mannn!!!" Agreed for sure about Grant and Burton
By far the best Actor was Sean Connery for the Bond 007 character.
Sean Connery was my favorite. Although I'm surprised no one asked Michael Caine...
I wonder if they passed on Michael because of playing Spy Harry Palmer in Ipcress File, Funeral In Berlin, and Billion Dollar Brain
I agree, he was perfectly cast as Harry Palmer. Not sure Bond would have been such a good fit
Clive Owen really should have been offered the role of James Bond.
Even in the Pink Panther with Steve Martin he was 006, and needed one more to make it to the big time.
It seems that they are looking at younger actors who are in their late 20s/early 30s ie Tom Holland the film version of the video game Unchartered could have been Tom Holland's Bond audition Richard Burton, James Mason and Michael Gambon would have been more suited for the role of M and both Stewart Granger and James Mason were both shortlisted for the role of Drax in Moonraker but both were not offered the Drax role because of Moonraker being a UK/France co-production (under the 1965-1979 agreement) which meant that Michael Lonsdale took the part of Drax
agreed they would have been better for M. I would have loved to see what kind of Drax James Mason would have been!
BROSNAN was / is my fave
Thank GOD Eastwood didn't do it - we HAD TO HAVE Kelly's Heroes.
Exactly!!! We needed Kelly's Heroes more!!!
Always Sean! Thanks for the comment! Welcome to the channel
❤SEAN CONNERY BEST BOND FOR EVER...Maybe Richard Burton or James Mason would have been ok, thats my opinion😮
Roger Moore and Bronson for me
Being diplomatic I think all the Bond actors had their moments ...everyone is different and therefore injects their own personality into a role. That said I am hoping when a new 007 actor is finally chosen the producers have the films bring back some of the fun (gadgets & witty dialogue) from the older films as Daniel
Craig's more recent Bond films have been super-serious.
I would like to see the devil-may-care witty and charming super-spy return !
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂
Sean Connery is the king of JB 007 🔫
100%!!!!
I think they got it right as they say if it ain't broke dont fix it
Although all the Bond actors have been pretty great, what do you all think about AI potentially taking over for actors?
