Wow! That was an excellent presentation! Usually that much information puts people to sleep, but you presented it in an exciting and interesting way! Well done! You gained a subscriber.
I was always using %100 Isopropyl Alcohol and assumed that would be the best. I wish I knew about this before I bought 5 liters of it just now : ) I will dilute mine thanks to you in the future. Thank you for making this video.
Thank you that was very informative and well presented. I have to add that last bit about not mixing IPA and bleach, I am hoping that no one would ever think of doing that.
Good information! I wish I would have watched this before I bought the 2 bottles 91% alcohol from Walgreens awhile back. Now I think I may dilute. Thank you!
So if I transfer my 70% IPA into another container, will it create peroxides? How can I minimize or eliminate said risks? How long does peroxides take to form? Hope you can answer these questions for me, thanks!
Yoguely. I have brand new needles used for micro needling also known as micro dermabrasion. I have soaked (for 4 days) brand new needles in 91% isopropl vs. 70% and for some reason the 91% always causes cheap micro needles to have the white adhesive seep out. What percentage of alcohol do your recommend for soaking micro needling needles? BTW, it's used with the Dr. Pen.
What about 91%. I used this one over my clothes to kill bird mites. After it dries is not flammable??? Should I wash my clothes. I know you are talking about virus but I need help with this other parasites.
I use it a ton now for the last year. But now I have terrible stomach was funny Bowdle for two weeks. Could inhaleing this too much accidently cause this!? Thanx
According to a Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), of IPA: Inhalation: May cause dizziness, headache, nausea, and narcosis, irritation of the throat Ingestion: May cause blindness, nausea, damage to gastrointestinal tract, liver, kidneys and cardiovascular system.
I have many questions. I have 99% ipa for sfx makeup looks. I’m so afraid to use it. It’s supposed to be for alcohol activated paint for prosthetics. I’m just wondering how to use it safely.
Here is a MSDS for 75% IPA. It says it causes skin irritation. www.statlab.com/pdfs/sds/HS3785_Isopropyl_Alcohol_Antiseptic_75_Topical_Solution_SDS.pdf Do look up the MSDS for the product you are using for more specific information.
Fine info but you may have forgotten a few things or it may confuse people. :-) Isopropyl alcohol can you store for ever if it has not been open and you can store it for ever if you get a dispenser that do not let air in. 70% isopropyl alcohol works better because pure alcohol is not a solvent for most things, so the water helps the alcohol in removing the dirt. For cleaning normal surfaces is the 70% the absolute best, for cleaning things where water is a bad thing, use 90% or more, but just get the cheapest.
@@presizz7883 No not at all it will be great to clean things, the 25% water helps to remove dirt. As long, you keep the percentage under 85 and preferable at 70% do you have a great cleaning agent, so 75% is almost perfect! :-)
Very nicely done! Welll presented. I do have a question if you are able to answer it. I've seen presentations that advise the combination of isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide to make a good cleaning/fogging solution. Is this a bad combination as you state at the end of your presentation? We've been doing this for a couple of years now and I will cease doing it if you suggest. Also, I just bought 99% isopropyl alcohol and want to use it in our fogger. Should I dilute it at a 3:1 ratio with water in order to bring it down to 70%? Any suggestions you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Can you help its urgent my pc case has dust mites they crawl ontop andbottom of it can i use 70% of this on pc tower which has metal and plastic body will it damage it? Thanks
She basically said use it as is. You could mix more water into it but it will be less effective or you could buy 99% and add the appropriate amount of water to it for your application.
What about blue isopropyl alcohol 70 %, is it different than the white one that you used in the video? Can I use the blue one as sanitiser and apply it on hands?
Isopropyl alcohol is naturally colorless. So the blue color must come from an impurity added for aesthetics. Dyes can be harmful for your health and the environment. (See my other video on principles for choosing effective cleaning agents th-cam.com/video/DEB0QS4Rbxs/w-d-xo.html ) In the end, coloring dyes does not serve any function in disinfecting. So overall, I would preferably choose 70% Isopropyl alcohol without the additives.
For electronics you should definitely avoid anything below 99% ipa at all costs. 70% ipa can leave watery residue on two contact points of sensitive PCB exposed components like a mobo or processor smd's resulting in a short. Any PC enthusiast who tinkered with direct DIE cooling and water cooling knows it better.
Not necessary. But do store it locked up in a cool, well-ventilated place. Read the MSDS at the concentration you are using to get familiar with the flash point and dangerous temperatures you need to avoid.
I answer that in 3:56 . The CDC recommends "Alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol may also be used." for suspected or confirmed Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Hi, I know you said this but it doesn't answer my question. I appreciate that the solution has to be at least 70% alcohol to kill viruses but can it be too strong, i.e. 70%- 80% may be fine, but at 99% it evaporates to quickly to totally deactivate the virus? Apart from this uncertainty, your video is very well made. Thanks for putting it out there!
@@ceneg 99% IPA will kill the virus, but not very well. You could always make a 70/30 mixture with distilled water. Aside from 99% evaporating too quickly, I believe something does happen on a microscopic level which makes it less effective at breaking down the virus. That being said, I'm not an expert so I don't know the specifics. I personally use 90% or higher for cleaning electronics, glass etc. Always use 60%-80% when you want to kill the virus effectively
From what I read is that 70% is the way to go because anything higher will evaporate to quickly to kill the virus. The 70% will have the proper drying time to kill that virus. Bleach is also cheaper to use but you have to let it saturate what ever you are trying to sanatize or desinfect.
I think there are a lot of confusion about this subject, but I hope to give a more correct answer. :-) The alcohol and the water have two different functions in a hand sanitizer. 1) The alcohol is there to kill bacteria and virus but does a really bad job in removing dirt 2) Is only to remove dirt and "flush" out what you had on your hands. In short do the combination, kill and then "flush" any remaining dirt and germs away from your hands. 90%+ will only kill but not clean and below 70% will clean fine but may not kill as many germs. :-)
