A delightful cello concerto! Once again, the YT super computer is to be congratulated for directing me here. Thanks for posting@Pau NG and All The Best from a grateful listener in metro-Washington,DC🙏
I only just discovered John Garth, this wonderful composer of the English Baroque. What a delight these exquisite cello concertos are, and as someone pointed out, how comforting in these dismal times. From Durham too! So many fine overlooked composers! John Marsh is another. So glad their music is being played and recorded!
This work, like the whole set of Garth's cello concertos, can give one a lift in these dismal days of lockdown. As a native of County Durham, I am pleased to see this delightful item posted on here.
7:25 for some reason, it makes me think of Princess Diana and how she suffered much before finally departing this world. Poor dear. She was loved by so many, and was such a wonderful woman! No wonder this made me cry.
Surprise! Surprise! - So far you have mainly presented Central European artists. I often thought: No Italians, French or English... - Now it becomes even more interesting. - Perfectly fitting picture!
The third movement gives me goosebumps and sends shivers down my spine. I can't help it and wouldn't want to. A scientist might explain this but they might get shivers too...
Am I wrong or does anyone see Italian influence here? I mean, Geminiani, Veracini .... hence northwest Italy style, pupils and followers of Corelli. The fact you mentioned Avison as friend of Garth directionally supports my feeling as Avison was particularly fond with Italian traditions (concerto grosso sets after Scarlatti and Geminiani). Beautiful concerto and cello part is joyful and intimate depending on fast/slow movements, without unnecessary virtuosity but with superbe technique
Not wrong at all! I hear so many Italian touches in here, including the various movements, and oh, the details, too -- I hear lovely trills and mordants.
Escutando, alegres figurações com notas repetidas; o lento oarece uma mistura Corelli/Vivaldi. O terceiro movimento dança alegremente, lembra ligeiramente a Bocherinni "a retirada de Madrid" .
furthermore, at 7:28 "Dear Lord, we offer You our prayers for the Ukrainians. Thank you for being with them during these trying times of persecution and trouble. May You strengthen their nation so that they may be able to survive once more. Lord Jesus, forgive our enemies, and be with those whom some of the persecuted might have left behind in this world. Amen."

Garth is a composer previously unknown to me. His cheerful Cello compositions are easy on the ear and uplifting.
Totally uplifting.
