      I had contacted several builders who could not do the job until April. Then I drove every day from Padrao where I rented a house to my new place and through the village I saw a house in scaffolding but never saw anybody. Then one day late September a group f men was painting so I stopped and asked to speak to the boss. Joaquim came the next day (Sunday) to have a look and I told him what I needed done (in Portuguese)He does not speak any English. A week later he came back with a quote that I accepted and a week later two men started working. He works a lot in Lisbon, so on Sunday he would return to see what the work was like and advised his men what to do next. They put the bathroom wall in the wrong place so they had to do it again. He knows his stuff.

      @@Solo50plus I'm not an expert, but perhaps it would help to cut a couple holes in the plasterboard, near the floor and near the ceiling. This would allow air to circulate behind the plasterboard. Of course the holes should be covered by some sort of mesh to prevent rodents to build a new home :-).

    You can take the door off the hinges and add a strip of wood to the bottom so that it fits properly. I am concerned about the pointing with concrete and no vapor barriers on the exterior wall before plaster boarding. Concrete absorbs the moisture and retains it whereas lime plaster pointing lets the wall breathe and the moisture can evaporate more readily.
    You have made great progress in creating your living spaces.

    The Volt drop is not an issue if you conect the panels in serie, for instance 10 panels of 40 volt Dc each will give you about 400 Volt DC but only around 10Ampere... that way you don't get lost off voltage and you don't need a cable more than 10mm2 or 16mm2. Normally you use only 6mm2 but because of the distance you could increase a little. The regulator then must take the 400 Volt DC and 10 Amp. Both negative and positive cables must be of the same length and follow each other to minimise the risk of EMC ( flashlightproblem) That's the most cost effective way. Regards Rickard from 🇸🇪

    • @__Dude_
      @__Dude_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Sweden and the Philippines Journey: Your proposal is quite unusual and potentially dangerous (running 400 volt DC lines a long way).
      @Eveline: If you don't want to rule out the possibility to install the panels away from the house, the batteries/charge regulator/AC-DC converter should be placed close to the panels (in a little shed) to keep the low voltage DC lines short.
      From there the 230 volt AC line would run to your house, without noticable voltage drop.
      For the technician: 12 panels @ 360 watts each produce 4.32 kilowatts (at best). Converted to 230 volt AC, the max current would be 19 amps. Cable cross section of 2.5 mm2 would suffice.
      That is ordinary cable, not very expensive.

    Solar panels need regular cleaning of dust for optimum performance, hence ground level is more practical than roofs even if cost a bit more in cabling. Also roof penetrations where panels are attached can cause leeks into the building. Under panel spaces are a popular hiding/nesting place for wildlife, potentially causing damage to the system.

      The panels are not going on the roof. They are becoming a kind of carport where the panels make the roof. They will be accessible to clean.

      Interesting info, not relevant to Eveline's project though.

      @@evelinebronsveld1559 Another bonus to your plan to use them as a carport is it will keep the panels cooler as air can flow underneath them. I really like your house and all your plans. Excellent choice of a property!

    Hi, I’m really interested in the power situation and I’m pleased that final costs are coming in the next video. I have calculated based on project portugals electric bill of 40 euros per month for two people, the 12,500 would cover 26 years and lol 4 days and is green electric. I’m wondering what the life span is on panels and batteries and the infer structure required to run solar plus generator of course. Also the maintenance required to keep it all up and running. Will there be insurance on the system should the panels be damaged by hail stones or some other external interference? Obviously I know electricity prices could rise. Thanks x . Ps I think the access to the loft should be kept if only for maintenance purposes.

      It will be used as an extra bedroom. It is impossible due to its age to import and too much hassle to return to the UK.
