Yes I would like to know about house sitting….i live in Portugal, I speak english french, german, Spanish ….i have cute little Schnoodle - tell me your house experiences😊
My husband and I love watching your videos. We are Islanders from England and planning to retire in Portugal as of early 2025. What we would really like to discuss is the duration of Sumner and winter in Central Portugal to include months and temperatures, from someone who've experienced the different areas in Central Portugal.
Happy Christmas Luise.
Thank you for doing this. I think you said you’re in Coimbra? That was one of the places I was going to visit there this summer. Do you have any information about rental costs and what different parts of town are like? Take care.
Thank you for all of your videos! The car buying process and driving in a foreign country would be invaluable. 🎉😊
Thanks for sharing! Love to hear about the 5 Towns (and several) and of the dogs stories! You didn't want us to say this :) but I do like everything you do on your vlog!! Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄💖🇸🇪
Just to say Louise you helped me with the car tax with one of your videos so I will be forever grateful 🙏 😊
Hi Louise, First, Happy Christmas! Second, could you pin a link to your Patreon at the top of the comments? I watch on a Fire 7 and I can't find a link on my device. Thanks!
Oh dear Luise 😂 So many brilliant ideas for vlogs - how can we choose 😆 I have my first Portugal Petsit coming up in Feb through TH - and with a big TH-cam family who I follow! Excited!! Near Amarante, which is an area I am very interested in. * So - weather & regions is one subject I am very interested in. I have a chart which grades the whole country, winter + summer on a scale of 1 to 3 for each season. I’ve overlaid it onto a map and I check just about everywhere everyone ever mentions to see if it’s in one of the more equitable 😂 Personal experience counts for more imo 👍🏻 * The area around Coimbra is definitely another area I’m interested in so I’d love to know about the recommended towns. And any petsits you may just happen to come across 😉 *Looking forward to your visit to Carpe Diem. That has been a build and a half! Really hope they love the house. My hope is to explore Portugal via house/petsitting this coming year and to decide where I want to buy. Will I achieve that? Who knows, but I’m hoping to get my own TH-cam channel off the ground, being informative and - possibly - inspirational too 🤔 So - whatever vlogs you decide to make in 2025 Luise, I’ll be watching 😎
Yes to it all! You are a great resource to many people Luise, including me.x
Everything has been fantastic. For me though seeing you out n’about Walking locally is uplifting💚. Even though unlikely to self build myself, really interested.. just In case 😅! Merry Christmas & Best of Joy 🤩 for 2025! X💫🪐
How to pay property tax and the different ways to do it would make a good video.
How to pay property tax? Online, through your NIF account, with just a few clicks. You can do absolutely everything to do with taxes online.
That's one for the people that own a property.
I replied earlier to your question, but it looks like my reply has disappeared...(?) so here's another one, more complete: 1) You can pay all your taxes online through your NIF account at Portal das Finanças. 2) You can also pay at any Multibanco (cash machine) just log in to your bank account and select "pagar contas". 3) You can pay at any Tesouraria das Finanças anywhere in the country, just take your paper tax bill that you'll have received by post and pay either cash, bank cheque visado, or by bank card. Property tax can be paid once a year or twice, every 6 months, you choose. Easy.
Trusted housesits in the uk someone put housesit but have to pay for own bills while staying at house. I was like get f***ed its part of the situation you shouldn't have to pay for your own electric gas water etc your looking after there house and pets. What do you think of that?
In UK I usually got paid from £500 to £800 per week to look after house & pets. £100 per day used to be the minimum. Plus some food & train fares. Check with the domestic staff agencies, not pet agencies. They have plenty of work, sometimes a whole month or two.
That's very unsporting! Just swipe on by and choose a different house sit.
🎄Silver Coast, beach and Coimbra surroundings are very interesting to me, also why people leave, building a house in Portugal (how to insulate and battle the damp!) and tips in general. Horror stories, doggies🐶are also very entertaining. You might have enough subjects for a series! 🎄
Definitely have the ideas and interest...all I need is time!!
How to insulate and battle damp in portuguese houses? Do what the portuguese do: 1) Sell the house to a gullible and unsuspecting foreigner. 2) If that fails, abandon the house and move to a better one. That's why there are so many old houses in ruins. 3) If you can afford it, demolish the whole house and buid a brand new one, with modern standards & confort. Best option & most recommended. It'll cost between 1,000 and 1,500 Euros per square meter, so a 2 or 3 bed house up to 100 m2 could cost around 100K Euros when finished, but would be worth a lot more than its cost = Godd investment. Spending a lot of money renovating a house with problems = Not good investment. Ask any portuguse builder.
I'm in!
I know that feeling when I was in Israel volunteering people would say Boker Tov it was literally weeks before I realized it meant Good Morning when I finally did I was exhilarated because I knew only Toda Raba..thank you😂

Obrigada :)
Louise- I want to say anything....I know you said not to. So I want to know about the living. I got here recently and am having an interesting experience- so I want to hear about others. I love the details- motoring, processes for getting (mundane) stuff done(!) AndI LOVE LOVE LOVE the lives.
Thanks for your kind words and your feedback. It is still useful to that you are interested in all the suggestions :)
No offense, but 4 years is more than enough time to learn the local language. You seem really intelligent. Why haven't you learned Portuguese? It's to your benefit. Anyway, I do enjoy your videos. I hope you don't take offense to my comments.
So true. Portugal has received many Ukrainians seeking refuge from the war and many have learnt basic portuguese in 6 months. Where there is a will there is a way, they wanted to start work asap to support themselves and help their families back home. I'm forever astonished how well many of them speak portuguese, one young mother told me it was the least she could do for herself and her children in Portugal, while her menfolk are at the battle front. Brave people, all of them!
Thank you for your comment and for watching my videos-I appreciate your honesty and I’m glad you enjoy the content! I thought exactly the same when someone told they they had been here 3 years and could not speak the language. Learning Portuguese is definitely important to me, but the last few years have been quite challenging and full of unexpected twists. Between moving frequently, adapting to a new way of life, and learning new skills for work, it hasn’t been as straightforward as I’d hoped. What you don't see is the list of courses and resources I have purchased. Also what you don't see is everything about a person, not all conditions are visible. It's easy to judge. That said, I’m always working on it at my own pace and look forward to improving as time goes on.
Happy Holidays! 🎄🎉🥳🎊
Dogs, coast and housesitting all will be lovely😁
Thanks... that's useful to know you like it all :)
I'm in😀😋
I love ALL your ideas about the videos you plan to make! As a long time subscriber to this channel, I'd like to say I get so much value from you videos. Also, I truly appreciate your personality - you are a kind, positive and good spirited person (that's how I see you from your videos, anyway) and I find you very inspiring. So Thank you very much Luise! To be specific though, buying a car (an automatic one, I understand it's a challenge), and also the process of renovating a property is very interesting to me. Thanks again!
Thanks for your feedback and thank you for your continued support. As for the personalty... I don't record videos when I'm in a mood. So you don't see that side of me! 😂 Thanks for your kind words though :)
Your great giving information. I been living in France for 25yrs its a minefield, trying to like you finding out everything, getting through red tape. As these governments want us all to be diverse, why is there not official offices set up to help people in our own languages. From sorting out taxes, to just getting help in general things. But they promote people's moving, yet there is no help in these kinds of things.
I moved to the UK and lived there most of my life. Nobody in the UK ever translated anything to my mother language which is portuguese. Nobody spoke portuguese in any UK official office either. I had to learn English to get by. The millions of portuguese emmigrants that leave Portugal to work all over the world have to learn the local language. WHY do you think Portugal should do for you, what nobody does for the portuguese? Entitlement mentality??? Note: TH-camrs promote people moving to Portugal, not the country.
I worked in community development back in the UK with local councils and community groups. We had to have a much of our written material translated and several languages. In some case intferprtators were a mandatory right for non English speakers. But I suppose ultimately we all just have to learn the language of the country we are in. Slightly easier for those learning English though because you get so much more exposure. When I walk around the shops here most of the Christmas songs blaring out are in English. 🤷🏽♀️ I wish they would be in Portuguese, it would be an opportunity for a great learning exercise. 🧠
@@Solo50plus I've lived & worked in Lonfon for 33 years to this date and I never saw anything translated in portuguese. Most portuguese Christmas songs are religious, you won't hear them in shops and public places as we are a secular society, and I don't think that songs, Christmas related or not, will contribute much to learning a language as words are usually translated to rhyme and fit the metrics, but not the exact translation. But if you want to hear portuguese music and songs, listen to portuguese radio and TV, as they are required by law to have more than 50% of all broadcast music in portuguese. The portuguese government offers FREE language classes all over the country for anyone willing to learn. They also have the official portuguese online courses by Instituto Camoes: Portugues para Estrangueiros, which teach the correct version of europen portuguese.
Love listening to your informative tales. Interested to join your further discussions.
Thanks Angela :)
Wishing you Louise, Terry and Nelson good health and contentment for 2025. I would be very interested in seeing videos exploring Portugal, towns, villages, beaches and walks in general. I am always interested in hearing about peoples stories, moving to Portugal and starting a new life including properties bought and renovated. All the best with the electric bike 💐☺
I would love to share more of these stories too, I think they are the most interesting. But getting people on camera is hard! 😊
Merry Christmas 🌲Feliz natal🌲-
Thank you :)
Where did you move from Villa Verde. I didn't quite catch the place. You liked Braga, so why did you leave?
Braga district is lovely but I didn't like the rental place, and the last straw was when my guests and house sitters were uncomfortable.
Would love to see the towns and villages in your area.
Thanks for letting me know your preference 😊
Wonderful video. Tks. Question: you mentioned dogs and adoption in same paragraph. Are you getting rid of dogs ?
@BPe ie9je. Obviously not ! 😁🐶🐶
Haven’t lost me as a subscriber….sending seasons greetings across the miles and your gorgeous fur boys….would love a tour of your local town if possible/ beach 🎄🌅🌄
Thanks for you feedback. Definitely ones for the list 😊
Very interesting topics, Louise, all of them. One of my favorites: why did people leave? Love your lives but hard to catch you in time… can you announce them In advance, please? Thanks, looking forward! 💗🐾🐾🙏
Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your favorite topis. ! I completely understand how frustrating it can be to miss the lives. I try to go live when I can, but it’s tricky to plan exact times. I'm not sure what's the best way to solve this. Thanks for your patience and for being part of the community! 🙏🏽🥰
The lives are so much fun! Funny, it’s easier to catch when I’m at work. I do work, and I have my earphones plugged in. I can send a message between emails, and documentation at work. Plus, I’ve had the same employer, with a hard working reputation for 26 years. 😁
Sounds fair, seems like just the right balance!
MERRY CHRISTMAS ✝️🙏❤🇺🇸
YES.....The Silver Coast, beach!❤❤
Do a HORROR Story.😊
I enjoy the opportunity to live vicariously through your adventures in daily life in Portugal. While I think it would be great, not likely to happen for me. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing that-it means a lot to know my videos can bring a bit of Portugal into your life! I love being able to share these moments, and it’s wonderful to have you along for the journey. 😊
Ya never know what people need, so do what you do!❤❤❤
Ok, I PUT THIS BEFORE YOU SAID THIS!
Overwhelmed... I Relate!!! ❤❤
Thanks for sharing this video Louise. Catching you in the future. I would like to know about shared living almost like a "Golden Girls" living arrangement. Do you know if this type of living arrangement is prevalent in Portugal for single ladies getting older? Also I am curious to know what kinds of seasonings are in Portugal? I like to cook . Maybe you can take us to a grocery store and show us what kinds of seasonings the locals used to make their foods tasty. I wish you and your family and all your subscribers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year 2025!🎉 Stay safe and God bless...
I can relate to getting overwhelmed. I enjoy your exploring and housesitting and doggies. Keep being you.
Wishing you and the boys a Nadolig Llawen a very Merry Christmas 😊🌲🐾🐾🐾🐾
Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to you, Louise!
The story, trials and tribulations of you and the lovely dogs would be great but then as a dog lover and dog Dad, it goes without saying that I would😅
Thank you so much! I’m glad you’d enjoy more dog-related content-they’re such a major part of my life. There will be more of their story for sure 😊
Louise, I was with you during the last live stream, but YT provided no chat function for me to participate. I have no idea how to fix that if it happens again. I am a subscriber and I've clickeed notifications on, but never receive any. BTW, a couple of other YTers I follow have free patreon set up to create their private network.
Good idea!
I've enjoyed the videos you've posted about your journeys around Portugal and your daily activities while house sitting and looking after Terry and Nelson. Your visits to parks, lakes, rivers and forests have been delightful. Things that have gone wrong have been eye opening (for instance, when your neighbor prepared the chicken your dogs killed and how often the language barrier has been an issue). I'll never forget when people walking along the road by your house kept staring into yours! I've always been fascinated by how people live their ordinary lives in other countries.
Good to hear your feedback. Thanks so much for your coming!
I would love to see the 5 towns ( 1 at a time obviously haha) ...and of course the dogs xx And have a very Merry Christmas!
Thanks Colette. I think it could make a good little series of videos :)
