I have the A7S iii and when I bought it I didn’t care about the megapixels for Photos but now seeing a few videos on the V, and that awesome auto focus system I’ve been thinking of moving to it. I can’t afford to have an FX3 and the V :( anyway A7S4 with better MPs plus the Auto Focus on the V would be my perfect camera plus internal NDs but that ain’t gonna happen !!
I learned to be satisfied with the tech I have. Too many influencers pushing the latest and greatest tech at a time where Google, Facebook, tech companies are laying people off. I get it, everyone has to make a living.
I mean the image the FX3 produces is no better or different than the A7SIII. It’s just smaller and different control layout. Until Sony makes the FX3’s firmware radically different than the A7SIII, then it’s pointless to switch to the FX3, for me. Also, another reason to offload the A7SIII… the Mark IV will be released this year. 😉
There is a little difference between them in colour and sharpness/contrast. The FX does have a more organic picture quality to it. Could be something to do with the in camera sharpness. But these are little differences that can be adjusted in post and maybe using a lens filter but can be a big workflow difference to some.
they dont create the same image and the fx3 / even fx30 have so many more features then the a7siii. And thats totally fine, its not a cinema line camera and not 100% video focused, but dont be butthurt and tell other people that there is no difference. Even the A7s mark iv wont have the same features as the fx series cameras, simply cause its still designed for hybrid users.

These barely perceivable “image differences” are matched with the smallest of tweaks in post that it’s almost not even needed. Give the A7SIII the same firmware (minus the button mapping) and it’s the SAME thing minus the body differences. I’m not even hating on the FX3. I’m saying Sony is leaving it’s former “cinema camera” users in the dark. Because before the FX3, all there was, was the A7S series.

But Sony did some things with the FX3 and FX30 that make major differences in many points when u compare them to the A7siii. The biggest difference i notice in RAW Recording, even the RAW footage of the FX30 looks so much more pleasing then the A7siii, dont ask me why. CineEI was a gamechanger for me, beeing able to creating these moody, athmosperic shots (especially darker ones) without effort and a lot try and error is incredible. There are also more codecs available then on the A7siii. You are 100% right that u cant really see a difference if u film for example with XAVC 100mbit in whatever settings, but the higher u go, the more youll see a difference in color and the FX images get some kind of moody pro mist (without really harsh glowing) look u dont get with the A7siii. Of course u can try to replicate that look with a7siii footage, but i dont event want to. A7siii is for normal b-roll, nightclub videos etc and it does really great. For the rest, ill use my FX3. Just please stop telling every1 there is no difference, if you are butthurt cause u just bought the a7siii recently or whatever, thats completely fine cause its in its own way an incredible camera.
I have the two A74's and two ZV-e10's, but I'm still going to pick up an A7sIII and sell my ZV's. The price difference on the used market is so big. You can pick up an A7S3 for $2800, but it's still hard to find an FX3 under like $3900. So until I can afford an FX3 it'll be An A7S3, Two A74's and an FX30 (or the new ZV-E1 when it comes out)
I could NEVER give up my a7S111 for the boxy FX3. I have fully rigged it out and is way more versatile than the ‘cinematic’ FX3. No EVF outdoors in bright daylight come on!😮
@@RandumbTech I get that. I use the Shinobi 5 inch monitor which is excellent! HOWEVER in bright sunlight run and gun I just love being able to put my eye up to the beautiful EVF on my a7S111 to check focus and composition. Can’t do that on the FX3. Different strokes…
@@Pfagnan Totally makes sense. I went to Disney a few weeks ago and had my whole travel kit packed with just my FX3 and a few lenses. Right before we left I swapped it out for the A7iv because I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to see the screen in the bright FL sun. I was right - I ended up using the EVF way more than I thought I would and was glad I had it!

I dumped the A7SIII once FX3 got CINE EI and the updated quick menus that better replicate the FX6. It's still missing basic cinema body features like shutter angle and noise reduction control. Would have been cool to also include SDI input to really fall more into the cinema line. Been thinking about dumping my dual A7IV's and getting a single A7RV.
If you want shutter angle, time code and SDI input, definitely go with the FX-6. I have an FX-3 and FX-6 for my video production business. The A7R5 is more photography based than video. It all depends on what you do. When I have a video production shoot I know both the FX-3 & FX-6 are my go to cameras. When I have a photo shoot my A74 is where I am going. My suggestion is to rent both the A7RV and the FX-6 and see which camera is going to meet your needs better. Try both of them.
I bought a z6 and really loving it I know lot of people love to trash on this camera but i've learned to use it with its flaws and got pretty good with it. I don't plan on switching or anything
Would never use the a7RV for professional video work, until it undergoes heavy thermal testing. My a7siii never stuttered at 4K120… inside of a burning airplane… and with the new firmware the a7siii is essentially the same thing as the FX3. You should have just held out for the Mark 2.

That's tough to say! The A7RV is better in many ways like AF and stabilization. I don't know if I could pay that much more for an A1 when I'm so happy with the A7RV!
I just have 2x A7IV because I want my second camera to be the same and I also do photos. The A7RV / A1 are too expensive for me to have two of. I am doing almost all video now though so maybe if an FX3ii comes out with built in ND I would think about upgrading.
Yeah it doesn't make sense owning both an a7siii and a a7rv. There's a lot of overlap. FX3 was a good move. I'm on the hunt for a cheap used one myself. I have a small TH-cam channel under a different name and only generate a few hundred every month. So I can't justify having both a a7rv and an FX3. Someday a cheap one will pop up on eBay and I'll grab it. Especially after seeing this video. Thanks man
What about fx30? I mean if you already own one fx3 and a7rv, wouldn't it be beneficial for you to own one fx30 - it's cheaper, you don't have to use crop mode on it (already cropped). I'm just curious.

I just picked up an A7RV and enjoyed the video aspect of it very much. I think the "rolling shutter" conversation gets thrown around to much. That affects a small amount of creators. Great points here!

Hey, for a low light talking head video, should I get a ZV-E10 w/ fast lens or go full-frame? I've noticed mushiness due to noise reduction kicking in on ZV-E10 in low light.
@@boomboombaby9140 that didn’t make it a cinema camera. Panasonic S1H hybrid is also Netflix approved, doesn’t make it a cinema camera. I’d also say the s1H is also more ready to shoot movies than the fx3. It’s a decent camera, just handicapped in so many ways.
@@ItsBerg the term “cinema camera can be subjective “ any camera that could film a movie could be a cinema camera. Technology is advancing and changing example the fx3 doesn’t have shutter angle but if you expose correctly it could achieve the same results.

FX3 all the way. There isn't anymore reasons to get an a7Siii once the FX3 came out. Back then, it was much needed since it was a dedicated video camera for a very affordable price tag but today, it doesn't have any major roles anymore. I barely use the EVF and barely take photographs with my a7Sii so it would have been the same with an a7Siii had i gotten it. I got the FX3 which i build it to be on a monopod, tripod and gimbal. I keep my FX3 as a video camera and only use it as a video camera so the photography is barely use. I recommend others to just pick up an FX3 or FX30 over the a7Siii now.
@@johnnyweissmuller5838 then might as well get an a7IV that can do both of those and especially has the dial mode switch that the a7Siii does not have. It allows to switch between video and photo mode so much easier. Otherwise, Electronic shutter is just as great now.

And if they do, then who is the camera for? Besides that, if the rumors of Sony's new camera, the ZV-E1 is true, even more reasons not to release a future a7Siv. ZV-E1 will likely have the same sensor as the a7Siii in a smaller body and cheaper price tag. If this new E1 is only $2,000 or less, oh mang, the a7S lineup is officially over. The only other camera I can still see Sony continue to make is the a9 series. A1 is great but its $6,500 usd and its a 50mp sensor. We need a $4,500 usd A9-iii with a 30 megapixel sensor. The difference between the A9 and A1 are still huge that a future A9-iii is needed to be release.

It will probably have 6K60 and the excellent rolling shutter performance, and less noise outside native ISO. Basically an A1 with some new bells and whistles
Well if you ever want to sell anything other tech and more importantly other cameras that are good or great for videoing or videography I and starting up well wanting too at least and can use tips and gear.
The thing that appeals to me about the A7R5 is the improved AWB. Manny Ortiz and Taylor Jackson both say its the first sony camera that it actually works ok on. Im a Nikon hybrid shooter and the only feature that I would have missed is Nikons AWB and auto iso, it did help me to work fast, and was the only reason I delayed buying a Sony camera, as Id used them in the past and had ended up having to select a wb or doing a custom wb, this slowed me down to much. I watched a video recently were the A7R5 was used in a high rise carpark with different internal lights and daylight, it exposed and set the awb seemlessly
The FX3 being marketed as a "Cinema camera" is a joke. It's still a mirrorless camera labeled a Cinema camera. It's literally an A7SIII with the same sensor and has timecode input. There is practically no difference when it comes to image acquisition. Meanwhile I own 2 FX6s and operate an FX9 on many TV productions because they pay for themselves way more often than the mirrorless cameras.
Sorry Sidney, you’ve crossed the line to being a promoting gear junkie. The siii may not get as many views as the r5, but that doesn’t diminish, in any way, the versatility of this machine. So excuse me if I skip your reasons. So disappointed.
Does it take a genius to figure this one out? A Sony a7RV costs a fortune! The Sony a7Siii plus a new camera would put u into the RED! Bankruptcy, Debtors Prison and all the rest were loooming into the future. Did u have to sell ALL of Your Lenses too? After all, I'm certain that the Sony a7RV would be the world's best PINHOLE camera. Just scotchtape a piece of cardboard to the lens mount with a small pinhole in it. Should be amazing shots! I did the same thing, after getting the A7RV my SIII has been collecting dust, so I sold it and got the new 24-70 GM II. Super happy thus far!!!

Most professionals will use an external monitor so no EVF is a plus because it allows for a smaller/lighter camera.

FX3 all the way. There isn't anymore reasons to get an a7Siii once the FX3 came out. Back then, it was much needed since it was a dedicated video camera for a very affordable price tag but today, it doesn't have any major roles anymore. I barely use the EVF and barely take photographs with my a7Sii so it would have been the same with an a7Siii had i gotten it. I got the FX3 which i build it to be on a monopod, tripod and gimbal. I keep my FX3 as a video camera and only use it as a video camera so the photography is barely use. I recommend others to just pick up an FX3 or FX30 over the a7Siii now.
If you ever want to take a picture, the a7siii has mechanical shutter, that and the evf, for me beats out the fx3
@@johnnyweissmuller5838 then might as well get an a7IV that can do both of those and especially has the dial mode switch that the a7Siii does not have. It allows to switch between video and photo mode so much easier. Otherwise, Electronic shutter is just as great now.
@@harryvuemedia5106 Sure, the a7Iv is a better hybrid camera, but the A7sIII is a better video camera, it has 4k120, excellent rolling shutter (3x better), and higher second step native iso which is more important for me at least
@@johnnyweissmuller5838 true that! A7Siii has the better video options over the a7iv while their photography is secondary. I just don't see Sony coming out with a future a7Siv anymore. And if they do, then who is the camera for? Besides that, if the rumors of Sony's new camera, the ZV-E1 is true, even more reasons not to release a future a7Siv. ZV-E1 will likely have the same sensor as the a7Siii in a smaller body and cheaper price tag. If this new E1 is only $2,000 or less, oh mang, the a7S lineup is officially over.
The only other camera I can still see Sony continue to make is the a9 series. A1 is great but its $6,500 usd and its a 50mp sensor. We need a $4,500 usd A9-iii with a 30 megapixel sensor. The difference between the A9 and A1 are still huge that a future A9-iii is needed to be release.
@@harryvuemedia5106 I think there is still a lane for the A7SIV. But when it comes, it will make FX3 and FX6 obsolete, I dont think Sony is there yet. It will probably have 6K60 and the excellent rolling shutter performance, and less noise outside native ISO. Basically an A1 with some new bells and whistles

Well if you ever want to sell anything other tech and more importantly other cameras that are good or great for videoing or videography I and starting up well wanting too at least and can use tips and gear.

Always have multiple camera bodies in your bag. Wedding photographers know this and it was a lesson I learned the hard way many years ago
The thing that appeals to me about the A7R5 is the improved AWB. Manny Ortiz and Taylor Jackson both say its the first sony camera that it actually works ok on. Im a Nikon hybrid shooter and the only feature that I would have missed is Nikons AWB and auto iso, it did help me to work fast, and was the only reason I delayed buying a Sony camera, as Id used them in the past and had ended up having to select a wb or doing a custom wb, this slowed me down to much.
I watched a video recently were the A7R5 was used in a high rise carpark with different internal lights and daylight, it exposed and set the awb seemlessly

The FX3 being marketed as a "Cinema camera" is a joke. It's still a mirrorless camera labeled a Cinema camera.
It's literally an A7SIII with the same sensor and has timecode input. There is practically no difference when it comes to image acquisition.
Meanwhile I own 2 FX6s and operate an FX9 on many TV productions because they pay for themselves way more often than the mirrorless cameras.

Bankruptcy, Debtors Prison and all the rest were loooming into the future. Did u have to sell ALL of Your Lenses too? After all, I'm certain that the Sony a7RV would be the world's best PINHOLE camera. Just scotchtape a piece of cardboard to the lens mount with a small pinhole in it. Should be amazing shots! Best in the world! We will pray for u! 😎😎
