I appreciate the video. I couldn't see the difference on the Garmin Website. Made my decision easy. I'm going with the 50!

Can you emulate the display/graphics of the GHC50 on your 923? The reason I ask, I'm out of dash space for a flushmount but have room for a surface "bail" style mount that maybe another smaller GPSMAP unit might be able to fill in for the function of a GHC50. And at a list of $799 for the GHC50, thats not too far away from the cost of a small GPSMAP unit.

Good point. I dont think the graphics can be duplicated, but i do believe all the functions can be controlled .

I too have the GHC20 and the remote. Love the remote. The GHC50 looks a bit wider and really don't want to continue hacking up my dash anymore than I have to.

Our TR-1 won't power up. Might be the power on button and I have a replacement ordered. If not that and the board is bad I will have to consider replacing with Reactor 40. Is the GHC 50 whatever really necessary? I would prefer to not use it and do as normal similar to TR-1.

I have the 20 but the display on the 50 looks so much nicer ! I find the 20 so clunky that I operate almost exclusively off my hand held remote but Marie prefers to use the 20. Unfortunately sometimes when she pushes the button she does not get the desired response especially if it is a stressful situation. Looks like they may have made the 50 easier to get to the functionality. I’ll be interested to see your take once you get it installed. It may be worth it to upgrade if it substantially makes it easier. Thanks for the video!

@@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 That’s what the tether is for ;)
I only have the one GHC-20 mounted on the flybridge and find that the remote won’t work down below (signal not strong enough to get through the fiberglass?). So you did good in having two GHC controllers. I may have to go that route eventually.

I have the 20 but love the look of the 50 more. However, I don't love it enough to have to put new holes in the panel or get new panel again. The size of the two is drastically different as well :(

One of the things I have neen using when replacing a dash component thats a different size is using a piece of black starboard. Its easy to cut and work with and looks good. But of course its hard to replace a perfectly functional piece of equipment for mainly looks. And some will even prefer the buttons to touch screen.
