FINALLY we've switched to regions. I hated having to change cards for Inland and Offshore which I can literally transit between in the same day. One of my biggest gripes with my Garmin vs my older Lowrance chartplotters with older Navionics maps over the years. At least the UHD 9x sv units now finally let you switch maps without removing the microsd now. I always worried about losing my lake card after all my trips in the salt. I don't understand why it took so many years to understand how much we all have hated that. Software map switching and moving to regional maps, now finally both features within a year, but still years after they should have been added.
John thanks for this. Looking for relief shading to help with finding hard bottom on the gulf coast of SWFL. Can you comment on the functionality for this purpose. Thanks
Hi Garmin ( or anyone who knnows the answer) Is this Navionics Vision + compatible with GPSMAP 1243xsv? I tried installled yesterday but only saw relief shading and Raster Cartography. I dont see the Satellite Imagerey , Side Scan, Sonar Imagery or the 3D Mariner. Please help.
Thanks for this. I’m planing to purchase the 7” UHD ECHOMAP. I have an existing micro SD card of Navionics (Mediterranean and Southeast) which I currently use on my Raymarine FF. I guess I can’t use it on the new UHD or somehow convert it via the captain app. Would I need to buy a new Garmin Navionics + or Vision + for the UHD console? Please advice Thanks David
If I choose not to renew my subscription can I continue to use all the Vision+ I had previously downloaded? If I buy the card, do I have to leave it in the unit? Or can I download into the unit and put the card away for safekeeping?
Sounds like you are in Florida. I am in Homosassa. If you are up this way let me know, I struggle with this stuff. especially the Active Captain. I just purchased as Ultra 126SV and a 106SV and I will run an network cable to them. Will the Vision + software automatically transfer to the other unit ? Thanks,
I just got my new boat with (2) Garmin 8616xsv's and my boat is at Hernando Beach marina. What will it take for you to come teach me navigating this for an hr?
Ok how do you do this if your unit already has an as card and you buy the as card with the new maps? It will not let me connect to the active captain app with the new map card installed
this might be the worst device I have ever used! 35+ years as an electrical design engineer specializing in in wireless medical devices and I am 5+ hours in and still cannot get the charts from my "wireless device" to my chart plotter! I never give negative reviews, but this is a P.O.S. I was excited when I downloaded the charts onto my tablet, looks great, very useful. I might as well have bought a picture because I can NOT put it on my chart plotter! Echomap UHD 74Sv.
I just got a boat with twin 94SV, my 1st garmin fish finder... And let me tell you this is so confusing. A product ecosystem shouldn't need an hour long seminar to understand. Just figuring out what kind of memory car size I needed was an hour of fun (turns out 32 is the max). I don't understand these maps and charts though (in the subscription renewal section of the site it has a large/small option, what is that no information to be found as to what it means?!? all of this is sooooooooooooo much information that's is subject to a rabbit hole of digging just to get an answer.
I think these presentations are intended more for their dealer training, I’m glad they make them public. This one is lengthy but some of these videos have taught me a lot. I agree with you about the memory card. I record a lot of contours to keep up with changing Shallow inlets… a 64 will work if you format it on a Mac in fat32 but it should t be that difficult lol
I couldn’t agree more. had simrad before, put the card in and you’re done. Now you need an app, you need internet connection (none at my doc) and you need to watch an hour long video to simply get relief shading? I think the fact that a video is required should alert the product team that this is way too complicated.
@@paulbrannan569they don't care, it's their way of gatekeeping/ ensuring nobody steals or pirates their software and maps. I guarantee that they would make twice as much money if they just stopped with all the complexity and securities attempting to secure their data. Most people would still pay for it even if there was pirated versions available on the black market...but when they make it this complicated in order to activate a couple extremely simple features it turns everyone away. There's a few people that will still purchase it accidentally without knowing the headache they're getting themselves into, but that's pretty much going to be their only sales. I bought the lakemaster card for my Humminbird and it was the easiest thing to set up and learn. This should be no different, but Garmin would rather make everyone's life miserable in an attempt to force 1 extra sale. Imagine being an old retired dude that loves the extra features but isnt tech savy; he's out of luck and Garmin lost a sale. I'm tech savvy and even I find the process redundant and confusing.
So, my new Garmin Echomap UHD73SV came with all lakes. I need Southern Area that include Costal areas of Gulf and Florida. So, do I buy the Southern area program for $149.00 and just install it to my unit via the chip?
another question, i fish islands of gulfport MS cat island hron and marshes of LA, isthe Garmin Navonics better to have or regular one for 99.00 there is a sale
Hi GARMIN. Just got my NEW gpsmap8416 unit (after long time being hummminbirds fan) and wondering if budget is with no limits what maximum USEFUL package would you recommend to get if im in northern or eastern Europe. I know that not all features are available in Europe that are available in US so waiting for youre advice 🤩🤟👍🤜 im more still water angler then salt water fan 😀
OMG. Could they have made it more complicated? I would rather just plug in my chart and go. I am returning my 8616 for a RayMarine Axiom that is easier to use.
It is the most difficult process to active a card , you better be ready to hire a IT person and then it still may not work. Why isn't all the data for charts on the card that I purchased ? I ordered the Premium Navionics Vision + . The old units used to work right when you plugged in the card the new units suck don't buy one. You'll be sorry just like me.
As an IT professional with over 25 years experience I can tell you this Garmin processes are garbage. It is the most unintuitive User Interface I've ever seen. I think Garmin exclusively hires Ex-Government employees fired for incompetence for their software development.
@@itninja9503 Thanks for that reply. I finally was able to activate all the maps on the sd card. I had to get my son to help me he's a software engineer. He told me they should've made the unit connect direct to wifi internet instead of going through a phone or computer. We used my computer to download everything I payed for it took 4 hours. I'm glad I 'm not the only guy complaining.
I followed your instructions. Put in the Vision + card in slot #2 on my 8612xsv. Uploaded software, etc per your instructions and completed download process. But nothing of the Vision + features appears on the unit. My main objective is relief shading for SW Florida. If I can't get that, the whole thing is useless for me. One thing I don't get is I had put in a new SD card in slot #1, Formatted it, and with Active Captain, uploaded any current updates. Now, am I supposed to remove that SD card and replace it with the Vision 3 card in slot #1?
I've been in IT / PC's / Networks / Software Deveopment all my life. THIS SOFTWARE is the WORST I've EVER USED. I've NEVER seen anything this f'd up for a user community in my life. What a shame. GARMIN needs to WAKE UP! Come up with something BETTER than the install process you have RIGHT NOW! This is insane.
No, Garmin will suck every dime out of every person they possibly can. That's why they make it nearly impossible to install, download, transfer, or update everything. They want you stuck behind a paywall. They forced people to buy the entire North America map and then released sections at a lower cost later. They make everyone miserable and everything as confusing as possible to "secure their data"...so now nobody wants their data. Why even buy a Garmin anymore when you can go buy a lake master card with smartstrike and just put it straight into a Humminbird with no hassle whatsoever.
$249 PER YEAR.... Thats typical navionics BS. Years ago i purchased the app at a one time cost and then they come in a couple years later and started charging a subscription and made the app that I had paid for useless. So you basically are buying a new map card every year.
could you make this more complicated, what ever happened to plug in an SD card and it does all the work. This is rediculous . Nothing easy about this process and the first thing it says is to format the card with the charts you just bought. No step by step procedure . Great concept but you literallly made it to danf difficult just to load charts you already bought . WHY Garmin Why I even called support waited 30 min to get a person who said no instructions not step by step procedure to hold while you doing all this. Makes no sense

i agree, also nice to have regions as some older chart plotters cant use vision features unless region is smaller
Probably the best explanation ever made, thanks
The people that bought $1000 worth of Florida cards should get some sort of extended subscription

This is an easy understandable video to update software and charts.

what is the difference between the "U.S. & Coastal Canada Built-in Chart Updates" option for $149 vs the same area with navionics+ option for $199?
I am in Crystal river and still working on getting this figured out. John great video.
I am in Homosassa and still trying to figure it out. I just switched from Lowrance to Garmin so there is a learning curve for sure.
Why were the 7600 units left out?!?
He said it was due to screen resolution
Very important to know ! Fabulous. ThnkU Garmin

How much relief shading does the Vision Plus have from Hernando Beach through Yankeetown and how shallow?
So I have echomap ch53 I got active captain connected but how do I use navionics with it if it should be pre installed

What if you purchased the $149 and then realized you should have paid more to get the $100 or $249 package ?
If there are multiple chartplotters, do you need to connect and download to each of them?
is the card better to get or download?
Mega helpful to get me going properly with vision + on my 8612
I was not doing area downloads on my active captain app on my phone. !!!

Is LakeVu g3 discontinued?
So even after you spend 250 bucks on a card at the end of a year you lose it...
EXACTLY. you are basically buying a new card every year.
Or you can see it as staying up to date. A normal yearly update is $99. This one is $124.

Which marine maps will work with my Montana 750i?
Bluechart g3 for coastal charts and Lakevu g3 for inland charts.
it works with the new 8616XSV

When I find a better unit that is user friendly I will post on all Garmin sites. What a pile of garbage and waist of money.
Wish I had gone for Raymarine. Garmin software is spectacularly bad. I have paid top dollar on kit and software and I’m better using an iPad.
This is impossible to learn from
