RyanIsNerdy The whole movie is incredible. Huppert was just transcendent and dug into her character with such raw potency that it felt realistic and it disturbed me. Yes, the student was great but Huppert took that character beyond. EDIT: Your joke flew right over my head. I'm embarrassed now by just how badly i failed lmao
salsburysteakjr I watched The Piano Teacher based solely on the fact I had seen Amour and wanted to view the rest of Haneke's filmography and I was floored by it. It is a tremendous film.
I just watched the Piano Teacher yesterday, and I was in absolute awe by her performance. People weren't kidding when they said it was one of the best performances by an actress put to film. She's just incredible. Absolutely dark film but amazing.
Isabelle is a braver actor than Meryl or most Hollywood actors; could you ever imagine Streep playing the roles Isabelle did in the Piano Teacher or Elle ? No chance. A outstanding , daring ,truthful actor, head n shoulders above anything from contemporary Hollywood
pardeep parkash why do people want to put her against meryl streep? You can also ask if Isabelle Huppert would be able to play Julia Child or Margaret Thacher as believable as Meryl Streep did. My point is it doesn’t matter, they are both amazing.
Yes - Huppert is a brave actress who wants to play those interesting, complex characters but she acts mostly in European films which are by nature more brave than American ones. Streep and Huppert are two totally different actresses and both are great.
pardeep parkash You make a very good point but it’s deeper than Streep v. Huppert. American film studios are less brave and more formulaic in terms of the films they choose to finance, and Streep has spent her whole career making American studio films. No way in hell would Paramount, Universal, or Columbia finance a film like The Piano Teacher as they are all about big box office. But you are right about Huppert being the braver of the two; I don’t think Streep has turned in a gutsy performance since The Bridges of Madison County. That performance was gutsy because Meryl almost never plays a woman who is sexualized in any way.
I read an interview with her in 1996. The journalist said that however ice-cool and composed she seems, every so often she grins like a naughty schoolgirl, and it's very endearing. I have now witnessed this.

You are the best thing that happened on this channel! One would assume if they are able to bring a few celebrities for a nice video they would also be able put a nice fucking list in the description of that video.
There is something about her personality that is so powerful & hypnotic all at once. Her work in the piano teacher is some of the best acting there is, and I'm still not very well versed in everything she's done so I'm excited to see her in many other movies
She picked "A taste of honey" (1961)! Who else knows this rare gem? Saw it once in a movie theatre in 1970, never forgot it, searched for it later. The actress Rita Tushingham, with her unforgettable face, big eyes, big mouth, had another small role a few years later, in 1965, in "Doctor Shivago" (opening sequence). What a sensitive and realistic story that was, "A taste of honey", in exquisite black and white! Good taste, Isabelle!
@@oscarsalesgirl296 Is that what you took away from it? You must have been at a very different point in your life. I remember it as being very sensitive, I cannot imagine that I made this up. People see different things in films, tainted by their own experiences, but they believe their judgement is the objective one. Too bad.
The Cinematic Mind Though “The Piano Teacher” is one of her best actings, it’s very hard to see this kind of character being considered by the Academy, even in these days...
