  • In this video, I do the first oil change after 500 break in miles on my new Impreza engine, and breakdown the cost of rebuilding and swapping my EJ253 out and back in. Feel free to ask for more specifics, and stay tuned for future Impreza content.

    I used to have a 2006 Subaru Impreza for 2 years. I loved driving it but did not miss the engine. It need a new engine put into it in 2019 (I was only 17 at the time) because they kid who had it before me never checked the oil. The engine that was put in had to be rebuilt a few months later then the timing went off.
    I then drove it for 2 years completely fine until the summer of 2021. The oil started to leak a lot and was ticking. I started to do sooner oil changes but by November it started to knock and the oil pressure light would flicker whenever it was idling at red lights or stops (until I shift it to park or neutral).
    Then on December 21, 2021 (at just 98,000 miles) on my way to my cousins house that’s when the engine blew again. At first I thought I hit something like a plastic bottle or soda can, until I looked in my mirror and saw all the white smoke. The engine started to knock really badly and was sounding noticeably louder. On my way back I noticed my oil pressure light that would usually flicker was now fully lit, check engine light was on, and my cruise light was flashing indicating that it was disabled due to a code on the engine. It could hardly accelerate up to speed. It would rev up but couldn’t go fast. Once it reached 40mph is when the transmission would completely stall out and completely shut the car off, and whenever I would restart it it only stayed running if I kept my foot in the pedal. I drove like this for a few miles, trying to get it back to my house which wasn’t far away when it turned off on me again right next to a junkyard. I ended up just limping the car to the junkyard parking lot and the next day I signed the title over, got my stuff out of my car and let junkyard take it.
    I did go back a few days later and the grill was already removed from it and so were the rear body panels. I’ve been back to that junkyard since then and I haven’t seen it since December 2021. My 2004 Ford F-150 also went to that junkyard at 203,000 miles in February 2023 after it rolled over several times down the ditch a struck a tree. That truck had a brand new timing chain in it and brand new cams that were less than a year old when it was junked too. I went back to see it 3 months later and of course it was all taken apart 😅

    I have purchase used transmission and motor from junkyards and never again. Rebuilt or brand new is much better. I think what you paid was very reasonable. I am still driving my 2005 impreza with the 2.5 motor and it has 209,000 miles. It has alot of rust from road salt here in the north so I may have to buy a new subaru. Thankyou for posting.

    How much would I have to spend to replace an engine for a 2007 normal Impreza. And maybe swap it to manual aswell ?

      I elected to go with a same year wrx exhaust from ebay, but ended up having to cut it up and put my own flange on to match the header in this car.

    how did you do your break in, i have a rebuilt motor and im not sure how to go about it

    • @gkgt5226
      @gkgt5226  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My clutch had a 300 mile break in period of no shifts over 4000 rpm, and for the engine I went with a semi standard 500 mile break. I basically just continued the sub 4k driving and went really easy on the car for the first 500 miles, then changed the oil.
