Actually, the trolls weren't just randomly shoved in the movie. They were a part of the original fairy tale, "The Snow Queen". And, guess what? They were EVIL. More evidence for this awesome theory!
Also Elsa and Anna’s mom had 2 sisters, one of the sisters had ice powers, that means that the mom had some of the magic genes, which explains why Elsa has powers, the mom had the trolls kill the sister with the ice powers and then he erases everyone’s memories this is the same trolls that is in frozen because literally in it, it said in the beginning that it was about LITERALLY THE QUEEN OF ARENDELLE AND HER SISTERS, so now here’s the plot in frozen, everything’s perfect then Elsa made a small mistake, went to her ice palace and Anna then meets the trolls and they want power over arendelle after being forgotten because they wiped everyone’s memories
Has anybody ever taking to consideration, that the trolls probably kidnapped Kristoff? I mean, he was first seen as a child with a group of ice pickers. And he clearly had equipment that was made by for an ice picker his size. His father was probably among the group of men that were working. Who’s to say that troll that found him erased his memories of his parents, or just got the older troll to do it so Kristoff would stick around. Regardless of whether or not one of the men in the ice pickers group was his father, he clearly wasn’t un-cared for as a kid. He have the equipment that I mentioned, as well as clothes fit for the weather. It seems like at least somebody would’ve noticed his absence because he’s clearly not an orphan, and if he is it’s only recent.
Norwegian myth supports it, too- the trolls were known for kidnapping children, especially blonde boys. I just assumed that was an obvious conclusion (in comparison to other theories) and was a detail Matpat didn’t see the importance of specifying since it still doesn’t change anything

Pretty bummed this and the repunzel sister theory didn't get confirmed after frozen II. Would have been great. I have a theory that Disney saw matpats theories and decided, "no, they found out! Now we have to change our story"
no, you can have a sibling with blonde hair even if neither of your parents do, we never see the hair color of any of their grandparents but 1, and planium blonde is apparently a hair color that happens in the people that the enchanted forest is made after.
Actually it might be confirmed that the sisters and Rapunzel know each other! On Disney+ there is a spin off mini series called Olaf Presents, Where Olaf reenacts popular Disney movies. During Olaf's reenactment of Tangled, When the episode starts he says and I quote "A story about a close personal friend of mine!" Though it's not started how he knows her, but it's safe to say that he was introduced through Elsa and Anna. Maybe Rapunzel even played with Olaf as a kid?
Honestly if this theory actually happened- for the second movie, Hans coming back and showing the trolls as the real villains it would have been soooo much better.
Honestly this makes a whole lot of sense to me now too because Disney typically tends to represent villains with lime green. Not even Hans' eyes are lime green but what color is grandpapi's necklace lime green.
but what if the ship survived the wave and decided it was too dangerous to continue there, and turned to Africa since it is RIGHT THERE and it caught on fire and so on. It sounds like a valid theory
I don't see a lot of people talk about this, but I think Hans genuinely loved Anna at least for the most part. During the scene when the council, the duke and Hans were in the room, one of them said that if Anna were to die, then Hans would ascend to the throne (although you did explain how the British royals system works, Frozen takes place in Norway. I don't know how the Norwegian system for the royals work. Either that or both systems don't apply to the world of Frozen) You can see that after he said it, Hans' facial expression changes. I think that the time he was about to kiss Anna, the words hit him and eventually led to the whole villain arc stuff
@@10tailedbijuutrue Hans was technically just following Anna and also in only scene he said you and Anna I meaning Anna was only in the relationship. And also the fact that Hans wasn’t even focusing on her he focused on the place he was staying and also the fact both of them are "crazy" what I mean is Anna was crazy in her own way but also Hans if you think about it
Actually, I heard somewhere that the original plot for Frozen was that Elsa was the bad guy and Hans helped Anna out. Then a little bit before they were finished writing the storyline they changed to be more of a sister bond thing.
Well of course you didn't see it the most focus as the sisters in the movie. If you see and watch it. He let her die cause her was going be lock up and put to death basically only he would need support of people after the lime to the that country ruler by blood was cut. Which he showed in eyes of people he look suited for ruling over. He save her sister only base on if he kill or let her die by another she would not be with him cause of how close she felt tie to her. Near the end he nearly get it he couldn't do but put out any source of heat than if did like stab her or etc he be laSt known person with her in killing of that kingdom royal family
Well, true. . . However it may be too late now to redeem Hans with that reveal in a 3rd parter movie because of the "irredeemable monster" scene in the sequel. Besides, after Anna & Elsa sent him back to the Southern Isles to be tried by his own people for his transgressions, his love for Anna has probably waned. She did punch him off a boat into frigid waters, send him away without another word & start dating someone else. We understand why, yet Hans may not since he was under the Trolls' control. From the moment Hans leaned in to kiss Anna to the moment he woke up from Elsa defrosting the kingdom - right before Anna punches him - he is not conscious of his own actions. Troll magic has hijacked him like a puppet. If he *does* have any memories of what happened during that time he has to feel very repentant / remorseful.
Just here after seeing Matpat’s farewell video, back to the first ever Film Theory video I ever saw that introduced me to him and his wonderful work… Goodbye MatPat, you were such a great experience in my life And me and my brother will miss you 😢😢😢
So you're saying that in the first Half of the Movie Hans was totally legit himself falling in love with Anna and then at some point the Trolls changed his memories and manipulated him into becoming a plot twist? That does make more sense than anything else, let's go with that.
If the Grandfather troll can swipe the memory of an entire kingdom what say he can't pinpoint one single person that is UNSUSPECTING the curse and therefor follow through with their totally legit plan
That's also probably the reason kristoff never recognized anna or the family he saw when they were kids and kristoff ran off with sven to follow the ice trail
@@dandytastic7465 if hes already wiped the whole kingdom then logically he knows who has what memories, from there it would be a snap to locate the foreigners due to their unfamiliarity with him and find out who has been spending large amounts of time with Anna & that they planned to wed. He would just need to narrow the search based on memories to find Hans then mess with his head, possibly when Hans & his guards were on their way back from Elsa's castle (my timing may be off there. its been a while since i watched it).
MatPat's frozen 2 plot would have 10x better than the actual plot of the movie. In frozen 2, it doesn't even feel like a sequel, it feels more like an extra because random stuff just happens and Elsa decides, "sure, ill follow the magic voice of my dead mom to a magic forest where I find out i'm an element."
Well her parents always thought she was a danger, cause of how powerful and dangerous her powers would. Her Father told her to wear her gloves in “Do you want to build a snowman”
Of course, Hans's early actions also make sense if the original villain was the Ice Queen - until Disney decided that her songs were too good to be villainous.
@@jrsmith1998 Yes. Originally she was the Villain of the movie. But they decided they wanted a difference and the idea for sisterly love won out. Also in the books, she is something of a villain but not purely evil.
@@lacunaereversed WAIT WHAT!? does that mean the villain Hans could be one of his brothers as we know he was one of uhh 10-13 maybe 14 brothers (I forget) and for all we know he could have a twin with just a different eye color that's actually really interesting
It's sad Hans didn't come back in the second frozen. I liked the idea of Hans getting a redemption, I guess I could hope he gets it in the announced third frozen
I love how everyone forgets so quickly that the trolls essentially kidnap Kristoff and Sven at the start of the movie. How is it possible to think that they're anything except evil?
@@PaperRabbitsArtsto be 100% fair, no family seemed to ever look for Kristoff. which is bad no matter what, but especially so if you consider that baby Kristoff could've frozen to actual death out there.
Although, if they wanted to really stretch that theory, they could easily say that the water spirit helped the queen (since she's always been friends with them and it was her act of saving her enemy that gave elsa her ice powers) and carried them off to a nearby island .3. Since we don't really see them dying, we just see them about to be engulfed by water
but what if the ship survived the wave and decided it was too dangerous to continue there, and turned to Africa since it is RIGHT THERE and it caught on fire and so on. It sounds like a valid theory
@@ashlynjames969 But what would explain the king and queen's hair color change? The king's hair is blonde in Frozen, but in Tarzan it is brown. The queen is brunette in Frozen, but in Tarzan she is a ginger.
Ashlyn James ITS LITERALLY SEEN IN FROZEN 2 THAT THEY DROWNED WHILE CALLING EACHOTHER’S NAME HOLDING ONTO EACH OTHER, While Iduna Saying “The waves are too high!” Right before this line Agnar says “We keep going, for Elsa.”
I'm not disagreeing, but what if they don't drown but it's the waters last memory of them before they got on the boat and left to africa also the ice doesn't show close on his way to wherever he could have colered his hair. He could be saying that they need to do it for elsa for the chance that she gets over her fear of herself with the birth of her baby brother who the parents are sure she'll love.
Okay, so I just discovered this channel and I absolutely LOVED what I heard in this video. I really felt like there was a lot of work and passion in it, and I'm sincerely impressed and extremely pleased by the quality of what I watched. Thank you so much for this, you're getting a new subscriber, and if you allow me to, I'm gonna write this theory as a fanfiction, whether Disney uses it someday or not.
@@irispark5561 like Disney will make that many sequels. we might get Frozen 3, but then it will be Frozen live action remake. with CGI Sven and autotuned Let It Go.
I agree the trolls are the real villains i read a disney theory saying that kristoff wasnt orphan.. Trolls in mythology n stuff r known 4 kidnapping kids.. Thats what they did n must hav altered kristoff's memory about his actual family n also other ppls memories bout kristoff..
Funny Videos In the original story, "The Snow Queen" by H. C. Andersen, the villain is a character reffered to as the Devil and, in some editions, as the Troll. That's what makes me believe this theory isn't completly far fetched. The OG Troll creates a Magic Mirror that can reflect all flaws of character one has. After he is done mocking humanity with it, he climbs the stairway to Heaven in order to mock God Himself. However, once he reaches the first Angel, the Mirror starts trembling and breaks into millions upon millions of pieces. These all fall to Earth, piercing through the heart and eyes of regular people and "freezing them", that is, turning them into egotistical, cruel, manipulative assholes that can see but ugliness in the world.
How can I not believe this??? It makes more sense than the actual plot, which always confused me because Hans seemed genuinely concerned about Anna and Elsa like you mentioned
Yeah the person above is very right. Though he acts like a good king, the entire song of love is an open door sounds totally different once you have watched the movies.
@@thyfabulousfrank yeah. When he was stating that he was quote “searching my whole life to find my own place” he gestures to Arendale and not Anna which is surprising because this is supposed to be a love song.
af·fin·i·ty /əˈfinədē/ noun a spontaneous or natural liking or sympathy for someone or something. "he has an affinity for the music of Berlioz" synonyms: empathy, rapport, sympathy, accord, harmony, like-mindedness; More
Have you heard the theory that the trolls actually lured in and kidnapped Kristoff at the beginning of the movie? The theory suggests Kristoff was actually helping his father, who was working as an iceman, in that opening scene and that the trolls lured him away and kidnapped him. They probably would have wiped or altered his memory to keep him from remembering the event and left a changeling child in his place for his parents. The lure of changelings suggest that trolls are especially fond of blond-haired, blue-eyed children. In Scandinavian folklore, trolls are the main culprit of kidnapping human children and leaving behind changelings, which would fit the geographical setting of Frozen. I think this theory actually provides even more proof for your own theory that the trolls are not the innocent, friendly, helpful creatures that we perceive them to be.
Hanses plan makes a lot more sense in the book. You see it from his point view before he starts talking to her- you see his thoughts as he’s trying to manipulate her
may i say, i noticed that someone said to hans, 'if anna does not make it, you are the only chance for arandelle...' then, a surprised look on his face, this may mean that he genuinely did love anna, until he heard that he could be king if she died.
Exactly i was pretty sure it was a him being human, in a sense that we humans are selfish and driven by greed most of the time. So i completely understand how Hans reacted cause honestly i'd hesitate.
That *kinda* works. Only problem with it is that he acted a bit too evil for it to be believable. There still needed to be a bit of foreshadowing showing that he's the kind of guy who would do that, otherwise it still feels like it came out of nowhere.
@@seasnaill2589 theres also no reason to not save anna. she literally had no problem handing control of the kingdom to him temporarily and since shes incompetent Hans could have still be the one practically ruling the counry as a king alongside the queen. Hans also has more legitimacy on the throne compared to him usurping it
Team Theorist, you folks are AWESOME! I'm watching this theory again in 2022, and the quality still holds up! This is why I'm proud to be part of this community ❤️
You mean that horror flick disguised as a children's animated movie? Yeah. Hated it. Watched it with my friends while cowering under the bed with a submachine gun.
Disney: O freeze, fat pats on to us, better make a sequel before he makes another theory!!!!! Mat Pat: Ok lets make sure Disney makes a sequel so I can get going on another theory
I feel like Disney watches these theories and then goes “what’s the best way to completely disprove this?” Rip “Rapunzel is Elsa’s sister” and “Trolls are the real villains”. Oh, and don’t forget “Agnar and Eduna give birth to Tarzan” because spoiler alert *water saw the whole thing and it begs to differ.*
pretty sure most problems in the movie could have been avoided how their parents taken the time to get her help with her powers and have her learn to control them...like they see her emotions effect them but put no bother in to helping her channel that. #dadoftheyear
Frozen 2 has Hans doing redemption Frozen 2: let’s have Elsa follow a magic voice that leads her to a magic forest where she meets the elements from Captain Planet.
I'm pretty sure there's a Tumblr post about this... Edit: THERE *IS* "What if when they trolls said "Get the fiancee out of the way" they meant it? What if they cast a spell on Hans that replaced his feelings for her with greed? What if Hans is stuck inside his own mind, screaming and crying, because the love of his life is slipping through his fingers, by his own hand? What if the open door never closed?" "wait WHAT" Edit: Okay so people are actually noticing this comment for some reason, and I feel the need to clarify, this is a post from Tumblr!
DestinyDragonGod it is cool. my only problem is.. well, the movie was hyped for one song. and imo that ruined it. personally, the intro song -that ratpat spat on, his ear is going in my knee btw.- was better than the "let it go" one. infact, i can picture an entirly diffrent movie being based on that intro song. and how dafuq did i get on this topic?
no. if something is inspired or based from another work and it isn't supposed to connect, then it has to stand on its own two feet, by saying you need to read or watch or whatever something to understand the the other you are essentially saying that the (in this case ) movie failed in what is set out to do and failed at being a recreation/re-imaging of the original.
4:38, I think we got a glimps into Elsa's darker side in that scene and something is telling be we are underestimating how dark she can be. I am not trying to hate on any Elsa fans out there. This is just a theory.
MatPat, can you do a theory about Christophe? Like why his parents were never there, and the people that were around him and didn't pay attention to him.
Didn't they kidnap him like, straight after that whole memory wipe thing happened? They probably had every intention of just grabbing the first human child they saw so they could have a human family member to play matchmaker with. This theory, paired with the previous one, fill in like 90% of the many plot holes in Frozen and it's really cool
leo couture or the movie needed a villian and a love triangle between hans Anna and cristof was a problem so they made hans evil wether id does have sense or not,i blame you let it go!!! Because the song we didn't have our evil ice qween!!!!
@@Ella_Moore_2025 yeah, out of the 2 that is the most likely, as when you have a multiple personality disorder your other personality goes by a different name, as it is a different person. also an evil twin is funnier!
Actually in the movie hanz lies telling everyone Anna was dead. He lied saying before she died they exchanged wedding vows meaning he would be the king or prince. BUT BRO COULD HAVE A GIRL AND BE KING/PRINCE.
AND the Trolls say the heart is less easily persuaded, MEANING - Hans actually was in love with Anna and was her true love, so the Trolls couldn't let him kiss her because that would ruin their plan for Kristoff!! You're right, his plan would've needed him to kiss Anna either way, but the Trolls couldn't let that happen, so they manipulate his mind to not just be evil, but to not kiss Anna no matter what
Ok but about the prison cell Elsa was locked into. It definitely seems if it were built for her because the chains covered her both hands entirely and that’s the only way to stop her from using her powers, but Hans wouldn’t have enough resources or time just to build a cell for Elsa NOR DID HE KNOW THAT COVERING HER HANDS WOULD STOP HER FROM USING HER POWERS. But who did? Her parents. Her parents built a cell for Elsa just in case she went out of control.
Considering all the extra material they seem to be building into with other media like once upon a time it wouldn’t be too surprising that her mother built it out of a natural fear born from those traumatic memories of what happened with her sisters.
Wanna turn this movie even darker? The Trolls are Goblins. According to the mythology of the area (more specifically from the original people of Norway, Sweden and Finland aka Saami people), the dead people go to a place called "Underground" or "Beneath land" and take a goblin/troll like form (I called them goblins because that's the direct translation to the word, though its not exactly what they would be. Nordic languages have a lot more words for these kinds of creatures than English does). As their appearance is debatable and same creature can shift its appearance, its unknown what they really look like. These creatures have the ability to cause misfortune to the living and can even step above ground. They also are very protective over those who are bound to them by blood (ie their living relatives) and are hostile towards those who can be seen as "enemy" like rivals and so forth. According to the folklore, these creatures can cause physical damage and possess magical abilities, gifted to them in death of their original form as a human. What if these "Trolls" we see are actually Kristoff's real family and ancestors, who are raising him without any recollection of their past lives, yet feeling connection to him? This would explain their behaviour towards him and Anna, who would be viewed as the perfect girl for him along with them wanting to get rid of Hans as he is Kristoff's "enemy", his rival when trying to get Anna's interest. So there you have it folks, Frozen's "trolls" are actually Kristoff's long deceased ancestors who have taken the form similar to a goblin, bound to him by their blood relation, watching over him and trying to fight for him, mistaking Hans to be an enemy just because he brought a girl home to be healed. Another thing regarding the folklore of the northern Europe is the fact that here, Trolls are considered to be inheredly evil, large and consume humans. And the Trolls of this mythological bit would be called Giants or Jotunheims (different from the Viking mythology as they aren't Ice Giants). Jotunheims are large as a mountain and can stay unmoved for centuries, which is why often they are drawn to have growing trees go across their bodies, grass and other plants. In Finland, there is even a song that states that two of these creatures, called Malla and Saana were lovers about to get married, who were deep frozen by a Swedish Troll called Pältsa next to the place where a lake was grown from the tears of the bride, Malla. Man, isn't mythology just great?
I'm sorry but the Saami aren't the "original people of Scandinavia" I mean sure they were pushed up north a bit throughout history but they NEVER were the majority of the Norwegian fjord region, where the film takes place. It's still a plausible theory though.
Then again ... ( Guilty here ) I've watched Frozen a good few times, and have noticed quite alot of strangeness concerning Hans, he shows honest and earnest love for Anna, and yet time and time again he goes to show his affection, but juuust before he does, theres this split moment where he becomes somewhat confused looking, before doing a complete 180 with his personality. Same with him at the end, about to kill Elsa - before that, completely different personality, honest and earnest, suddenly a look of confusion and now hes grinning ear to ear about to strike down the woman he SAVED, shown concern for and tried so desperately to convince Elsa of her humanity, like ... thats not just coincidence. Actually, back in the day, Englands monarchy worked different. First, the oldest wouldn't always become the monarchy, it would depend if there were a male in the family. The oldest male would become in power. but in this case, there is no male descendant. The husband of the monarchy would end up with the power. This is why Queen Elizabeth | didn't marry in her life, because it would take her power over England away.

Have you seen the SuperCarlinBrothers theory that Hans represents the Mirror from the original tale? It's really interesting. When he interacts with Anna, he's lovably awkward and charming. When he interacts with the Duke of Westleton, he's a cunning politician. When he interacts with the soldiers, he's an honorable knight. When he interacts with Elsa, he's sympathetic. But when he shows his true colors, he's cold and empty.
if i remember its also because in the original story a piece of glass from a giant mirror fell into his eye making him see all the evil in the world and mimick other people

I also thought its kinda wierd how the Trolls tell them to hide the Magic, not learning to control it but just straight up hide it, not fixing anything- but triggering everything
I mean theoretically they could've still been alive, they still never truly show that the parents are dead, just that the water swept them up. So in theory, considering Eduna [sp?] was Northaldra [sp?] - the water spirit could've saved them. Granted that doesn't mean the Tarzan thing would be any more legit - but ... might be fun if they ever decided to make a TV show to explore what Elsa can do now [or really tell us about that poor guard that was trapped for so long and how he and his lady get on XD]

FOR REAL! This theoru should have been the plot of Frozen 2.
I think that the time he was about to kiss Anna, the words hit him and eventually led to the whole villain arc stuff
you can see in that song he shares with Anna, just too much is off to really think true love nonsense.
@@10tailedbijuutrue Hans was technically just following Anna and also in only scene he said you and Anna I meaning Anna was only in the relationship. @@amyliaclenny1866 Well the sequel didn't exactly de-confirm the theory.
Well, true. .

In the original story, "The Snow Queen" by H.

Like Cristoff, wow
Is Kristoff "adopted" or "kidnapped" by them?
Where tf did you get that profile picture?

Her parents built a cell for Elsa just in case she went out of control.
who would tell Hans of a secret cell ? btw
the trolls ofc
It didn't stop her powers anyway so whoever built it failed to keep her under control
Considering all the extra material they seem to be building into with other media like once upon a time it wouldn’t be too surprising that her mother built it out of a natural fear born from those traumatic memories of what happened with her sisters.
If her parents built it, well that's just dark...way to go..no wonder they didn't get much time on screen
You know more then i know about my countrys mythology xD mb cause im only 11...
WAOOOOOOoO
I'm sorry but the Saami aren't the "original people of Scandinavia" I mean sure they were pushed up north a bit throughout history but they NEVER were the majority of the Norwegian fjord region, where the film takes place. It's still a plausible theory though.

F*CKING YES!!!
Disney is known for throwing in these little hints, suggestions for Stories they intend to follow up in a second movie, if you check the movies they INTENDED a second movie to roll out for them, they all contain these little hints an suggestions, small and tiny, but they are there, not something you'd innately sense or see the first time you roll the movie, and they all came to be in these various stories second movie.
Well of course Phillip is unlikely to become the queen. He's a man
Phillip would need quite a bit of make-up, but she'd make a very regal queen.

Interesting.

MatPat: it has been confirmed that the parents survived and gave birth to Tarzan.
Frozen 2: it has been confimed that we was lying lol
*were
I think both can be real in same time
I mean theoretically they could've still been alive, they still never truly show that the parents are dead, just that the water swept them up.
