I LOVE this. So glad that Huffington Post did a piece on your story. I watched each video with your family and then some even though I told myself I didn't want to be on the computer that long today!! :D You are awesome for sharing your story and it's obvious you came from a SOLID family with an incredible upbringing. It gives me hope! Thank you, and BIG LOVE to your family too.
Congratulations!! What a wonderful heartwarming story... makes me proud to be a Canadian... I wonder if you were American if it would have been so easy? I feel so bad for Americans. You are delightful, articulate and deserve all the riches life has to offer!!! Thanks for sharing this story!!!
Congrats!!!! You are very courageous. Glad you can live freely and openly. I'm glad you had such a great coming out experience. Best of luck with your boyfriend, and best of luck with the future.
Awesome!!! I am very happy to hear of the acceptance that you have gotten from your friends, team mates and school. I am not a bit surprised as you seem like such a great genuine guy and who can say anything bad about that. As always, I am wishing you nothing but happiness in the future.
Those are amazing reactions from people. How many people attend your school? Biweekly vids are a lot of work. There's a best time for each of us to come out.
Scott, I listened to your words and I can see why people are proud of you. When you said you came out when it was right time in your life it is so true. Some people come out earlier and some come out later. It is an experience no matter the age. I think you have opened the door for others in your school who may be afraid of the reaction. When it all comes down to it we want to be accepted for who we are. We don't change who we are simply because we come out of the closet. Thank you.
wow i totally admire your courage and wish I had half as much. i am 35 and have come very close to coming out to my mom but not yet, and my dad??? thats a whole other ballgame! he's a super conservative Bible belt preacher, so i doubt i'll come out to him. u have inspired me more than you know. very proud of you!! :)
That's really awesome to hear! I do the same thing regularily, I let people get to know me before they find out I am gay. I've never had a problem. I think going that route changes people's minds and perspectives about gay people; it makes them stop and think.
This is brilliant :) Like, I had this huge dopey smile on my face the whole way through. Just wow. Congrats :D You definitely deserve all those wonderful messages you're getting.
That you received the reaction you did speaks volumes about you. All good, btw. I hope many young people see your story here. You should be proud of yourself. Welcome to the club!
Best coming out video. by far. and not because of the outcome, but because of the path you toook to get there. srsly dude, i would LOVE to change my status to "interested in: men" but not there just yet :p I know you have heard it 13535 times (aha) but your experience gave me an ounce more courage to come out (fully). Thanks a billion for sharing your story.
I am very happy to hear that some guys told you that they are proud of you. I've no doubt in my mind that there are many people proud of you. Your parents, your schoolmates, and many people who don't necessarily know you personally, but who know of you! Undoubtedly, I know you are proud of yourself! I've always been more than impressed with you. You're quite a great guy! =)
Utterly fascinating that you have the power to change minds, just by being you. Thats the magic that comes from coming out. Now you waited till the time was right, NO ONE should EVER come out till you are ready. Often ppl wait till they are in a relationship & have all the support they can get behind them, before coming out. Thats the best way for sure! all the best! guess we wont see the BF (sigh)...
I was confident people's reactions to your coming out were going to be those you had and I'm so happy I was right ;) Being so involved in sports, your coming out is especially inspiring. Homophobia in sports is a real problem, but your experience shows that there just needs to be ONE TEAMMATE athletes respect for them to change their opinion about gays. Scott, what you did is important and it's vital, not just for you but all gay teens and especially those in sports. I'm so happy for you :)
I seriously can't put into words the feeling that these two videos have given me. I guess ecstatic is as close as I can get. I'm pretty sure we'd all love to be introduced to the boyfriend... No pressure, though, of course. We all understand the need for privacy! :) Again, you've helped me personally SO much. You're great. You're just great. I'm so happy for you, and I hope I can meet you some day because there is nothing I wish I could do more than shake your hand and give you a hug. Respect
Thanks for the two great posts. Your good news gladdens all of your viewership and makes me wish that 1) I lived in Canada -- contrast that with Fulton, Miss. (where they cancelled the high school prom rather than let two girls attend as a couple), and 2) I was born about fifty years later than I was. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your future posts.
Great news... I'm super glad that everything is working out for you...Congrats on coming out, congrats on the boyfriend.... 2010 will turn out to be Scott's Fantastic Year
I know it has been a few months since someone gave a reactions to this vid. But I must say this is one awesome vid! :) I'm glad you've got so many good people that supported you, or didn't think less of you. Respect! :)
I had a strong feeling it was going to pan out the way it did. And, your timing was perfect because YOU were ready. Your an awesome person and I'm proud of you, and you make it alot easier for all of us gay people to be gay standing up like you do. so, thanks Scott, your the best!
Hi Scott, Good going there. I'm glad your classmates are being so positive and I agree that since they got to know you first as the cool guy you are then opening up about your sexuality probably made those who may have typical straight boy mentality about gays take a step back and realize that if a cool guy like you can be gay then there can't be anything wrong about it. I'm sure your friends have a whole new respect for you. Your bf is a lucky man. Hugs, Carlos
YAY. That's fucking awesome man. Amazing courage and fantastic response from your school. Good Job. Super Inspiring. I just hope this sort of acceptance can happen in every country. Like India, cause that's where my boyfriend is from. Thank You...
I'm so happy for you. And I bet you didn't imagine that someone would say that to you while things were so depressing! Well, I feel less alone because of your video. Thank you. Take care. Stay well. Cleve
That's so amazing! You have so much courage! Are you two still together? That would be so cute(: If so, you should have him in one of your videos!!!!:D
One hockey guy to another >>> big pucks bro :) Really proud of you. Now go start and just be Scott and get on with ur life. Luv ya man! (in that 'good' non-creepy way).
thank you, now i see what went wrong when i came out to my former classmates. while a few people were okay with it, i just kinda threw my sexuality out there without letting them to really get to know me first which resulted in me getting bullied and eventually i had to transfer schools because of it. so after all this time, thank you, i won't make the same mistake EVER again.
i am so happy for you, things were very different when i was your age. The human race has evolved and matured, but it has been done on the back of brave soles such as your self. From a different time, thank you.
TH-cam needs to come up with a "Like" system with which you can differentiate between "Hmm. I kinda like this song, I guess I'll give it a thumbs up" and "I've watched this video 8 times and it almost brings me to tears of joy every time I do." Just sayin :P
Btw, I'd love it if you posted the note you wrote on Facebook. Host it on Deviantart or something. Don't have to give out your FB info that way. That would be great :)
@philipem01 Fair enough! I have a kajillion American friends who would agree with you, and I know things range from bad to good depending on where you are. But culturally, things entrenched in law like 'don't ask don't tell' are kind of internationally heartbreaking. I remember when Canada passed the gay marriage law NATIONALLY under a CONSERVATIVE gov't I wept. Seriously.
Scott, I think people respect you because of the person you are. When they find out you are gay, they end up respecting you more for the courage you've shown. I think a lot of people respect you on You Tube too. Very happy things have gone so well. :)
will you send these coming out vids to dans "coming out archive"? you cant send this to a scared suicidal 13 y/o scott, but you can help other kids who are in danger...
It's too bad that we, who you have been sharing such deeply intimate aspects of ur life with for so long, couldnt allow us to support you on FB. guess i understand why, but still...

Thanks for sharing. Nice to hear stories like this coming out of Kanata, where I grew up.

This video nicely extends your coming out tale. It goes on my "Coming Out As Gay" TH-cam Playlist to round out your story.
