A few insights from the comments I see here:
    1. Always remember never to take anything anyone says - and that includes me too - as the gospel truth for every single situation. It just doesn’t work like that. I’ve seen many comments over the years whereby the viewer is looking for an algorithm that works every time - and you’re going to get frustrated if you do that because context can contradict itself at times; it’s hunting and it’s hunting a wild animal. So keep in perspective that videos like this are trying to give you the “general” understanding of how to get better; but it’s never going to be perfect advice nor is it advice that is spot on every single time.
    2. It’s highly unlikely you’re ever going to educate any turkeys by shock calling. No crow sounds the same, no owl hoots exactly the same as other owls, etc. Do your best to sound the best you can - get your cadence honed and also hone your realism and you’ll do well; now it is true that a ton of guys sound awful on a crow call. Which can make it sound unrealistic for sure; but if you’re anywhere close to the sound of a crow or barred owl you’ll be fine. You can most certainly educate them with turkey sounds but not so much with locators.
They hear crows, owls, and woodpeckers, and Canada geese, every single day; and that’s why it is not an educational risk.
I’ve hunted with David Hale many times; who is one of the best turkey hunters that has or ever will live on planet earth - period - and I’ve watched David use a barred owl at 8am in broad daylight 2 hours after sunrise and walk right into a turkey’s area; sit down, and then call him up and we kill him. Which defies logic but it works because I’ve seen it more than once.
    3. As for cutting on locating: yes, I do use it. However, I only try and locate through cutting when I’m in the vicinity where turkeys tend to be somewhat within ear shot. You can shock call from a long distance away and that’s why I’ve had so much success with it over the years.
Now, I will say this, the great thing about owl or crow calling is that you’re not giving away your position as a hunter mimicking a hen as if you were cutting or yelping.
Here’s a basic truth: never call to a turkey when you’re not in a place that you could kill him. I see a ton of guys call to turkeys when standing in the middle of a field, or they are downhill from the bird who is on a ridge above them.
Make sure you are in killing location before you call to him; because he could start working your way and then you’re in real trouble by trying to move and preposition.
Hope this helps! - Jason Cruise

I have always used the barrel type owl call. Never saw anyone use the owl call like yours. I have one and now I'll start using it. Thanks! I just never know when I'll fine a bird to shoot but I've got another locator to use now.

These locator techniques might get one to gobble but it will most certainly educate every turkey in the whole area I promise you they will remember it the next time you do it and they will be silent you have to sound as realistic as possible that’s what causes them to gobble is there just answering other animals but they most certainly know the difference

Great content! Thank you so much. Which turkey caller would you recommend for early season? Crow ? Owl? Hawk? In Quebec so we finish hunting at noon! Thanks

you're breaking your own rule from your other video, Yelping : "don't yelp more than 4 times in a row."

I'm a firefighter at a airport and we can hunt the property. Do you think they will not hit on a shock call when they live in a very noisy environment?
