does anyone else realize how absolutely fantastic this event is? having all these fiddle players playing the same song, but, all in their unique style? this should have millions of views!
The American Music Shop, The Texas Connection, and The Grand Ole Opry.... 1990s country was the reason I got into playing, singing, and writing Country Music. I'll never let it die.
Just heard Michael Cleveland do this tune at the Cowichan Bluegrass Festival. I’ll bet he could add yet another amazing addition to this incredible collection of fiddlers!
Never really heard Daniels cut loose before.. I think he's a lot better than he thinks he is. All outstanding musicians.. super classy and tastefully done!
That Classical training gives O' Connor an edge in technique and intonation but I love the way Kershaw isn't afraid to get atonal, but I think Gimble was the most inventive and tasty
Mark O'Connor is easily the most "polished" of the bunch. Johnny Gimble was very bright and jazzy as always. Charlie Daniels was raw and gritty. And Kershaw was clearly having a blast and making it all look so damn _easy!_ All in all, I couldn't ask for a better lineup of fiddle players, all doing what they do best!
For those who don't know it. It is Charlie Daniels playing fiddle on Family Tradition for Hank Williams Jr, and Buddy Spicher on George Straits(Amarillo by morning)
"Arkansas Traveler" by Mark O'Connor, Charlie Daniels, Doug Kershaw, Johnny Gimble, Vassar Clements, Buddy Spicher and James Chancellor "Texas Shorty" Celebrating the release of the Mark O'Connor Warner Bros. album, "Heroes." Music Director: Mark O'Connor - TNN American Music Shop Band
Even though this tune was not on the album, it’s great to see about half of the heroes on the album here playing this one together. One of my favorite records. Glad Shorty, Johnny and Doug made the trip to TN to do the program.
Yep the Morris Bros were/are great. Played with Terry few times. He walked away with just about every trophy there was in those days. Brother Dale happened to be in Tennison Bros Violin shop in FTW the day I walked in to look for axe. Asked if the cheap one they showed me was any good. Handed it to this guy. Tore it up. Was Dale Morris Sr. Reining TX State Fiddle champ. Did buy it. Never got as good as them though. Terry's loss was huge.
That's a very old folk technique - you can see it in paintings of old folk fiddlers from long ago (I mean REALLY long ago - over 100 years). I've no doubt there are still quite a number who do.
Charlie Daniels is playing the fiddle part on on Hank Jr's Family Tradition , and did a great job of it.I play fiddle myself and live very close to Turkey ,Tx
What a line up, Thank you.

Doug Kershaw is the showman of all showman! He's fantastic.
I missed out on Doug Kershaw (2023) showing in TX, last year, I didn't know him, it is a shame for my uneducated and limited eyes.
He's also way out his element in Arkansas Traveler lol...Cajun fiddle is pretty much a drone- he just doesn't have the chops those other guys have.
Came here for Kershaw but they were all a treat. Kershaw admired each one in turn. is he so humble? amazing.

It looked like Gimble brought his own Amp to the party. That's probably why he sounded so amazing.
it's a fiddle fest; awesome!!!

Nooo Charlie! RIP
How in thunderation can Doug Kershaw play that with it hanging out on the end of his arm that way???
He and his fiddle are one in the same.

Kershaw doesn't have the best violin technique, but puts on the best show.
charlie daniels looks near 7 feet tall, a big dude..
Dutch thinks he's slick.
I have never been trusting if’s the democratic dictated the Prosperity ironic with FED 🇺🇸😊, 🙏🏻💋!
