    Since I was a little black girl in the 70's I have always loved bluegrass and country music, me and my sisters and brothers would watch The Grand old Opry. I always hid that side of me from other blacks but in this day and age 2019 you can express who you are and what you really like. Thank God!

    Sat on the floor beside my pop pop and watched this live on TV. That ole man was great in his day, had his time on the Grand ole Opry, put out too many tracks to number, drove truck for a good long while too. I lost him 3/14/2020 at 91 yrs young. Heart attack, passed at home quickly. Miss that man dearly. This one took me back. They don't make em like his kind no more and that goes for good country and blue grass music the same

      FanBritLit If they're not friends, they're compatriots in the craft and on the stage. Having been in the music business, I can tell you the really great ones enjoy one another's playing and playing with one another. Some of the shallow, nervous rockers I've known and dealt with (you'd know their names) were genuine jerks, but others were and still are friends. I'm sure there are some jerks out there somewhere in Bluegrass and older Country and Country and Western, but I haven't met them. And these boys ain't them! I've had nothing but good times and good new friends from the shows and concerts.

    Alison Krauss amongst the Bluegrass Greats as a mere KID!! A mere Child at the time.... she's 51 now. Many have to Work and Work and Work to finally get to Major League and even FINALLY break through. Precious Alison just SHOWS UP!! And receives her recognition HUMBLY!! Oh My....so TALENTED, yet such a SWEETHEART of a a DECENT and HUMBLE Human Being. I've heard her in MANY interviews. NO EGO OR ARROGANCE at all.........even as AWESOME as her Singing and Playing "Definitely" is!!.......So many ARROGANT artists with not even HALF of Alison's Talent!!! God just BLESSED Her.........NO QUESTION!!!

    If you do not see why a Jazz musician would be in awe of this. Well I have heard that we have a common love of playing a tune and then SOLOING on it it in our personal way.based on the heart and soul of the musician and his life-world. I love Blue Grass. Yet my life has led me to express myself in Jazz. May we seek commonality and not division. This is the name of the Spirit that speaks to both of us. God Bless.

    Traveling back in time ... again. Been a very long time since I really sat and got into Blluegrass music ... a very long time. Definition of bluegrass: a kind of country music influenced by jazz and blues and characterized by virtuosic playing of banjos and guitars and high-pitched, close-harmony vocals. You know a lot of folks do not realize how much of our music came out of the Southern mixes of cultures. After all the East and South were populated before the rest of the U.S. Interesting and I am going to research that to see where that leads.

      Bluegrass is where it is. This is the greatest music you will ever hear.Of course that is just my opinion.

      A bit in love with blue grass, aren't ya? This is not meant as an insult just as an observation based on your comment. You know that there are many types of music in this world. Being exposed to a variety of music gives one an opportunity to grow and enjoy more in life ... musically. Just a thought.

      Minahh You are correct in that there are many genres of music, but the best musicians all play Bluegrass. That's not an opinion, that's a Fact!

    • @fuldagermany
      @fuldagermany 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, there it is. I must have known some budding artists when I was in high school. I was part of the artistic crowd, kind of nerdy, but not too much so and pseudo intellectuals. We would gather at lunch period and some of the kids played banjos and the music could be folk or bluegrass depending on the mood. Those were some special times ... and real as opposed to looking at a screen which is the thing today.
      Thank you for your point of view.

      @Flint3162 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Minahh Check out western swing...it's not exactly a precursor to bluegrass, but it started melding the jazz, blues, and country a good 10 years before bluegrass! It's more swing and jazz than bluegrass, but both are awesome! I made two "western swing sampler" videos for TH-cam, if you look it up.
      And Bob Wills is still the King!

Every one of those "dislikes" better be careful, because Im going to tell on them to my donkey that's in the corral in my back yard!!! It'll make him bray for a whole month nonstop!!!

    Just stumbled across this today and what a joy to see and hear all of these great musicians together. Been years since I have seen many of them and saw several of them as just youngsters in Winfield, KS when they were being discovered at a young age. Lots of talent for sure on the stage with John Hartford going home in his Steam Powered Areoplane. RIP

    I love that this has nearly 9.8 million views as I write this. More people need to hear and SEE this music and the way the musicians interact with each other in real-time live on stage. If you've tried to play it you know the technical proficiency it requires, but what I love is how they all move about the stage sharing ONE mic!
