The folk singers from the Houston-Austin-Nashville circuit all knew each other very well. Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Susanna Clark, Blaze Foley, Rex "Wrecks" Bell, Nanci Griffith, Eric Taylor, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, Bill Staines and others all performed at the same venues at various times and often sang each others' songs. It was cultural cross-pollination at it's finest. Some of the venues were The Old Quarter bar, the Anderson-Fair Retail Restaurant, Family Hand restaurant, Liberty Hall, Steamboat Springs, and the Mucky Duck (all in Houston), Huts Hamburgers , Alamo Lounge, Liberty Lunch, the Ritz, Buffalo Grill, Armadillo World Headquarters, Cheatam Street Warehouse, The Backstage, (all in Austin,) the Goodwoman Cafe, Springwater, Cantrell's BBQ (all in Nashville) and a host of other places all over the nation. After an unfortunate incident where Townes and Wrecks passed out upstairs with a candle burning at the Old Quarter bar (resulting in a devastating fire) the Old Quarter relocated to Galveston. After Townes' death, it kind of became a Townes Van Zandt "museum," decorated with old posters and photos of his career.

Nancy is very generous when singing w another
Beautiful.
Excellent testimony for both!!!
How is it possible to love someone so much you've never met, but carried with you always. Goodbye Nanci you warmed my soul more then I can aptly express. True loveliness
RIP Nanci. RIP Townes. 2 of the greatest.
Got to work with Townes for a few weeks in '88. Tattooed on my soul. Wish I could've done the same with Nancy. Both are legends of my life.
Sad they are gone, but thankful we have their music. Rest easy Nanci and Townes.
This is the music that Nashville no longer produces. Great video.
They didn't produce much of Townes' music back then.
One of my absolute favourite singer of all time!
one of the best songs ever...rip nanci dear sweetie ❤
You can see the respect had for Townes...beautiful
Beautiful haunting song. Would love to hear a contemporary singer or group cover this beautiful thing, so its never lost. RIP.
I have no words.💔
Beautiful!!
Two treasures together. RIP.
Love the song!!
Never seen this before . All can say is thanks.
Amazing, beautiful song, extraordinary Townes van Zandt.
A great storyteller. And like so many storytellers lived a life with a great deal of sadness, much of it self inflicted. A real paradox of great gifts and tragedy.
This amazing song brings a tear to a glass eye!
This was my son's lullabye. He would hum while I sang it to him.
Heaven must have a hell of a band. Scamp Walker is probably jamming with em right now. Peace to all and thanks for all the wonderful music
Great clip!! Thanks...Townes was right on this night and so was Nancy and the band
Mark your fiddle solo was beautiful. Such a moving song.
I love this. I could listen to this forever.
They sang beautifully together
A beautiful song! I cover it on my site. Miss Nanci so much! She and John Prine were my Favs.
just listened to this classic. Heart rending knowing both are gone....had the pleasure of seeing both in concert. Townes (solo performance) mid 90's & nanci with her band on several occasions. "keep the music alive" and pass it on to your friends.!!🎼🎼
One of my favorite cryin songs...that voice, that poetry.....the sunshine....walked beside her...
My Mother the Mountain Album was the first album I ever bought and is still my favourite one of his . This song takes me back to my 15 year old self listening to it in my bedroom . 'Why She's Acting This Way' is my favourite song on it. 🤍
All Townes did was put his entire being heart and soul in every fkn word. I love Nanci, beautiful in every sense sheesh she was a treasure, but Townes casts a large shadow. It's so silly the world doesn't get it.
Thank you Townes and Nanci for, again and again, opening my heart and my conscience. As a human I bless you for the gift you gave.
Simply..BEAUTIFUL !
