Push back cuticles using Pusher Plus 2. Use tool Dexterity to detail cuticles 3. Work on nail length + shape using OPI Edge 240 nail file 4. Use OPI Flex 220 grey side to buff nail plate 5. After buffing, cleanse nails with OPI NAS 99 and lint free wipe to remove dust and oils 6. Apply OPI Bond Aid to all nails, 1 coat only, for maximum adhesion. After this, nails are prepped and ready to go. Be sure to not touch the surface after applying Bond Aid Application of Powder: 1. Apply OPI Step 1 Base Coat nice and thin, just shy of cuticles, to stagger layers to create a tapered look, otherwise it will be chunky 2. Dip nail into color powder at a 45 degree angle, pause, tap off excess powder. Repeat for all 5 nails: base, then dip, base then dip, base then dip, base then dip, base then dip. Yes..I just typed that 5x. 3. Using a dust brush, brush off any excess powder. If you skip this step, your base coat brush will harden 4. Apply 2nd base coat, closet to cuticles, then dip again. Repeat on all nails, then dust off excess powder 5. Apply 3rd base (final) base coat, closest to cuticles, then dip into CLEAR SET POWDER, not colored powder. This is a finer powder. Smooth nails with OPI Flex 220/280, finish with the smooth side of the file 10. Brush off any excess dust 11. Apply another layer of OPI Activator (this is the 2nd layer) after buffing (3-4 mins dry time) 12. Repeat steps 7-11 on the other hand 13. Make sure nails are dry from Activator application. Wipe nails with a dry, lint-free wipe before applying top coat 14. Apply OPI Step 3 Top Coat using minimal strokes and float your brush. Wipe the brush to avoid hardening 15. Apply a 2nd coat of Top Coat (allow 1-2 mins of dry time) 16. Wait 5 minutes to set and dry 17. Apply OPI Pro Spa Nail and Cuticle Oil to finish 💅🏽
Moonchild Pisces - Wow thanks for the written step by step of my video! Should I take the hint and add this info to every video I make from now on! 😉 Thanks for taking the time to do this! ❤️
I’m going to try this at home while quarantined, so I had to write down what to buy and what to do! 😅 I figured I would share since I typed it out on my phone’s notepad. Thank you for the wonderful video. I’m excited to try this myself!
Moonchild Pisces - awww thanks! Glad you like the video and I’m sure they will turn out fabulous! Give me a shout if you have any further questions ok 👍🏻 Great idea to post it on here so thanks again, love it 😍
All listed issues... were consisted problems for me and I was sure of my mistakes...you addressed each one... giving me hope...the next application should be flawless, Thank You!😄
Janet smith - Thank you so much for your positive feedback, that’s exactly my goal to help people work through issues. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask and I’ll do my best to help! 🤗
Thanks so much for the awesome video. I’m a silversmith and also my own jewelry hand model. I got so tired of having to do a polish manicure just to take jewelry photos. I LOVE the dip powder! It holds up to many weeks of filing, sanding, and bashing silver. Forget the stickers, too. The biggest thing that helped me is the base coat application. I’m getting so much better. And good grief, who has time to apply a polish manicure every week?! 😅 I don’t!
Thanks emm jay! So glad to hear it worked out so well for you! 😁 Hope you’ve done it again since and it’s still been awesome! Thanks for your comment x
This is the simplest video ever! Well explained and right to it. I’ve been looking for a good video and too many people leave the guess work for this stuff. This is perfect!!♥️
thank you so much for this informative video, cheryl! i watched it 9 times before trying because i was waiting for my supplies! i am obsessed. I need a bit more practice because i got some clumps around my nail walls but i will practice!
Hi Shideh! Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes always good to get a grips on it before you start practicing. It’s definitely takes a good few times of doing them to make mistakes and learn how to fix them for next time. The clumps will get less each time. Keep up the good work! 👍🏻
its amazing how the dip system starting at the home level.... of women who couldnt mix the acrylics mix + brush blend properly. polygel is also home care invented. BEFORE the nail market will only cater to the professionals and you HAD to lean those techniques/skillsets to do your nails at home. press-on nails , glue, nail polish =were only game in town for a long long time! 💅🏾now my 'home' nails last longer than 3 days 😂 I dont have to walk around with nail glue in my purse
Yes its amazing how the nail industry has changed over the years! So many options now from at home to in salon and lots of crossover. Wouldn't it be good if you had a spare set of hands to do your own hands though right! 😂 Thats the main benefit for going to the salon plus the nail techs do it all the time so they are skilled and quicker usually so the nails last and less need for glue in your purse too! Thank goodness for TH-cam right 😉
I just ordered a dip powder kit, it should be here today. I’m so tired of my Gels not lasting enough time. This was such a helpful video! Can’t wait to try.
Hi Kaitlyn, ooh exciting! I’m confident you’ll get much more wear time from the powder 😁 Watch the video through again a couple of times and then have the video to hand when you try it out. Check the instructions of the kit you’ve bought as another brand could have slightly different steps. Remember the first set will be half as good as the third 😉 Practice makes perfect 👌🏻 Sing out of you need any further help ok. x
Cheryl Cooke OPI NZ I just did them today!! They came out really nice for my first try 😊 a little bit thick, so I filed them as much as I could but next time I’m going to do less layers! Now my sister wants to try too! Thank you 😊❤️
Yay! That’s great to hear! Experiment with the thickness you apply the base coats. Go as thin as possible but still getting coverage. If you go too thin then the powder won’t stick and the nails will be patchy. That will help to get the thinnest nails with the right amount or coats for durability. Sure your sister will love them too! 😉
Best that dip video i came across, geez 🙄 the other videos of ladies were talking talking i just couldn’t handle it . Thanks Cheryl for explaining soo well . I am a new subscriber to you today :) . I will definitely be watching other video tips of yours off to part two :)
Hi Tracy! That’s great to hear my video helped you! Glad you like my style 😉 Hopefully more videos to come this year so stayed tuned. Thanks for subscribing! 😘
Steph Mazvita Thank you! That means a lot! People ask me all the time, why are your nails in such good condition and how do you get product to last so well... it’s all in the details I say and I think that’s my secret to consistency and longevity for nail health and product that performs well. (I just had lacquer on that lasted almost 3 weeks!) 😁 Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate that x
I just had mine done, first time, they didn’t put that white powder or file to make them smooth so they stayed bumpy & then I wanted it shiny so I ask for another gloss coat & it got cloudy 😭, when I got home I filled them w/ the nail file & glossed over they look much better, smoother & glossy Thanx for this upload
That’s such a shame that you go to get your nails done by a professional and end up having to finish yourself! So glad my video could help you and that you managed to fix them up. 👍🏻 How did they last seeing as it’s 3 weeks on now? 🤔
Cheryl, I do this professionally and I sometimes have a problem when it comes to the filing section that the product hasn’t hardened enough and it start rolling or coming off as I’m filling. Like it’s rubbery not hard. I want sure if it was because it was a dark color. I was worried it was the clear set causing the problem and maybe I should only do the color dip and not the clear at the end. It’s driving me crazy. Seems to do it the worst on the start color that I’m using so I was wondering if dart just doesn’t set as well is lighter colors.
Hi Brandi, I think I can help you with this. ☺️ Firstly you need to check you are applying enough activator and covering the whole nail not leaving any spaces on the nail that are missing activator. If you are happy with that then next check you are waiting long enough before you file, I would say at least 3-5 minutes. If you are happy you are doing both of these things correctly then my next thought is the thickness of the base coat. If the base is applied too thick then it can’t cure properly. So have a go with thinner coats making sure there is no puddling or thick uneven areas. Even a thick bump on the nail is enough to have an area that doesn’t set and stays soft leading to the rubber rolling of the product which is so annoying right! Maybe your base coat is a bit old and sticky so hard to apply nice and thin. Last fail safe is to tap the nail with your nail before you start to file to check it sounds hard and no dead spots. The dark colour shouldn’t make any difference with the curing of the powder. As long as you are doing 2 thin coats of colour and one thin coat of clear then it should cure with the activator no problem. I look forward to hearing back from you that these tips have solved it for you! 🤞🏻😁 Good luck!
Hi Cheryl! Great video 😊 I use to be a nail artist but only worked with acrylics and want to try this at home. Do you need to seal the cuticle with this like you do with acrylics? Im prone to lifting so want to get it right! Thank you 🙂
Hi @jaxtraining8227, thank you glad you like the video and it’s helpful for you. To avoid lifting make sure you prep the nails (shown in the video), the bond aid will help seal and ideally avoid flooding this into the cuticle when you apply it. Then when you apply base coat make sure that doesn’t touch the cuticle either which will give you a better seal around the cuticle area. Hope this helps! Thanks 😊
I really like the color you were using. Not sure of the color? What do you think about the Princess Rules? And I have the Red Apple color. I cannot wait to try after watching your video.
Hi, it’s called Got Myself into a Jambalaya. Princesses rule is beautiful and very pretty, one of the rare ones with a sparkle to it. Big Apple Red is a classic too that I know you will love! Let me know how you go when you try! 👏
Vanessajay J - That’s great to hear this video helped you! This tip is a game changer for making your nails look professional. 😉 Let me know how you go when you try it! 👍🏻
Great video, could an electronic nail drill work just as well as the buffers? I tend to have uneven nail surfaces that I can’t get to smooth out with the buffers I use.
Thank you, apologies for the late reply. Yes you can use a drill if you have the skill to use them. Make sure you get the correct bands for the product you have. If you have good quality files and buffers though then they do all the work for you so no need to buy a drill. Either method takes practice to use them efficiently. 😊
Hi Janet, Sorry this is such a late video but I've only just found you Yeah!!! so glad. What a great & informative video. I've been doing nails for 40yrs+ but have never done a/c, however I've just bought the dip system & your video & explanations have really helped me understand it better. Hey & I can now advertise that I do a/c nails - good a? I love your voice its very soothing yet it helped me concentrate, haha you'd never think I'd been so long in the industry would you? I own my own salon, run a distribution for a large USA company & I'm an Educator lol. Its just that I've always been a gel girl. Thanks again for this fab video, I'm going to look at your other video's now. Xv
Hi vicki0145, thank you for your lovely feedback! So glad you found me too! Really great to hear that my video has helped you and you like my voice 😂 Let me know what you think of my other videos. I hope to put out some more this year and even more in 2020. You can keep in touch on Instagram too with any further questions you may have. Thanks again for your feedback it’s much appreciated 😊
Hi Cheryl you are very welcome to my feedback & I meant every word. I need to tell you that I am 75yrs old, I still work every day but I'm afraid at my young age I have no idea about Instagram or any of the others, YT is the only thing I use, because I've kinda gotten used to it now. I have not yet been over to your other video's but I absolutely will tomorrow as I'm off work sick at the moment & it will be great to watch you work & listen to you, ya know even at my age, & longevity in the nail industry I still love to learn new things & I've a feeling your the gal who might just introduce to some new idea's. Actually Cheryl I started my career with OPI, a great company. Take care lovely speak soon...……... Xv
vicki0145 - That’s awesome to hear, go you still loving nails and working doing what you love I hope that will be me too 😉 Hope you feel better soon and hope the few videos I have pass the time for you and make you smile. That’s also so cool you used to work for OPI! Thank you for you lovely reply, I'm about to trawl through your video's, I just hope there's a ton of gel ones for me to look at. Enjoy your day poppet and thanks for you best wishes, I'm much better today. Xv
Thank you for this video! Done nicely. I'm a 30yr licensed appearance enhancement veteran. This is exactly like old-school glue-n-powder! lol But with color. 😉
Great vid! So informative! I’ve tried my first set on a client and myself in bubble bath but it looks a little grainy when I look at them closely. Any tips or advice? Thnx xx
Thank you 😊 You will have more of a grainy look with dip it’s not the same finish as a gel or polish however to reduce that, make sure you are dusting the excess powder off between each coat. Also the clear set powder at the end will help too to smooth. Not sure what files you have but trial using different ones to see if that improves the finish. Let me know how you go! X
Thanks so much for your video! So easy to follow. Did it with the complete OPI system for the first time and it turned out well. However, after about 5 minutes of being finished, I touched a nail and it still wasn’t dry and it put a mark on the nail (I was able to fix it later). It seems that it’s taking much longer than 1-2 minutes for the top coat to dry. Maybe 10 minutes or so. Any idea what I might’ve done wrong?
Hi! Thanks for your lovely comment 🥰 With regards to not drying fast, potentially the top coat was too thick. The first coat should be thin and dry by the time you have done the other hand (showing non shiny on the first coat) then the second coat still thin. Also make sure you have applied enough activator before the top coat. Bear in mind the temperature of the room also will make a difference, colder takes longer usually. Hope this helps 😌
Hi Cheryl! First, thank you!! This video was amazing!! A couple of issues I’m having (using all OPI products!) Occasionally nails come out gritty/textured rather than smooth and the top coat tends to bubble up and clump after application. Any ideas what may be going wrong?
jenboo82 - Hi! Thank you for your lovely comment ☺️ Great to hear you are using the full OPI system. If you are getting a gritty finish then first check that your filing step is sufficient. Having good quality files makes all the difference and buffing down finishing with a sponge buffer about 220/280 grit should ensure that step is smooth. Make sure you remove all the dust before applying activator. Your top coat application needs to be a light floating first coat then once that goes matte then second coat is more precise. That’s what gives you the shine. Don’t overwork the top coat though. Hopefully these tips will solve your issue. Double check also that your top coat isn’t contaminated as well. Thanks for watching ☺️
Best dipping video! I’m having a little problem with step 3 top coat. I don’t get the shine that I see in your video. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong. And when I applied a second top coat it didn’t dry.
Hi Cristian, thank you. Glad you like the video! Ok so the main tips I can give you to get that shine are that you need to make sure that the activator is generously applied so that enough reaction can occur. Then make sure you wait the 3-4 mins then dry wipe the nail. The first top coat needs to be floated on so the brush barely touches the nail and it’s a quick 3 stroke application, doesn’t have to be perfect. When the shine disappears from that coat you can apply the second coat. That’s where the shine comes from. That coat takes about 5-10 mins to dry fully. Don’t overwork the top coat that will loose the shine finish too. I’m confident this will fix it for you. Let me know how you get on! 😁
this video was so helpful! i use tips so would it better to use one clear coat first for the tip to be secure, two color coats, and another clear? or would that be too chunky?
Hi Sophia Anne, glad you liked the video! You should experiment with doing an extra coat only across the join of the tip. Just apply over the join and the apex (the highest/mid point of the nail plate) feather out the base coat so you don’t get a solid line. This will give you extra strength at this vital area and help blend the join too and give the nail a fuller shape. Then go ahead with the 2 coats of colour and finish with the clear as shown in the video. Let me know how you get on with this technique. (Thinking I need to do a video on this too 🤔😁) Thanks for watching!
I love this video. So helpful. I wonder if you can help me with something? My nails are lumpy and uneven due to a vitamin deficiency. Do you think the dipped nail might smooth that out without having to file them down even thinner than they already are? Also where can I find the cuticle pusher/dexterity tool? Thank you in advance
Hi Suzzette, thank you glad you liked the video, yes you can use this on your nails to help smooth them out. Make sure you still prep the nails well and I would recommend a lighter colour as you may not get even coverage if you’re natural nail is uneven. For the cuticle pusher/dexterity tool, It depends which country you live in but you should be able to enquire at your local professional beauty supply or check out opi.com for this. Let me know how you get on 😊
Great video, Cheryl. Very helpful! Could you tell me what buffer you used (the white one) in the video? I have the OPI one but I don’t know which other buffer to purchase.
Hi Janet, so sorry for the late reply!! Glad you found the video helpful. The white file on the video is the OPI Edge 240. It’s good to use them all in conjunction with each other to get the best results. x
Hey there thanks so much for the great video I used the gelish kit instead of opi but I did use the bondAid which Im greatful bc in the past I think this is why my nails left or pop off when I get them done professionally and myself ,bc the bond wasn’t good! So my question is why isn’t my top coat drying shiny ??
Hi Brandi, glad you like the video. Yes Bond Aid is definitely an essential for nails that last, glad it helped you. Ok so the main reason for your top coat not being shiny is either your application of activator is not covered well enough or the first coat of top coat is being overworked. Make sure you apply the first coat quick and light floating the brush. When that is dry (when it goes dull) then apply another coat of top coat again don’t overwork it but you can be more precise with that coat. When that’s dry it should be nice and shiny. Have a go and let me know if that solves it for you. 😁 Apologies for my delayed reply.
Hey Brandi, ah no sorry no substitute that I know of 🤔 I’m thinking if you wait long enough the base could dry on it’s own but don’t quote me on that as I haven’t tried it! Tap the nail to listen to the sound to know if it’s dried enough to buff. Let me know how you go! Maybe I’ll test it too! 😊
Hi Yvonne, if the nails are clean of existing product then 45-60 mins is a good estimate. If the nails are already prepped as well then knock off another 10-15 mins. I usually advise that however long it takes for you to do a GelColor service then add another 15 mins on top for your powder services. Hope that helps and makes sense. 😁
Hi Julie, thank you, the activator is used again to help cure the topcoat. If you don’t use the activator then the topcoat won’t dry sufficiently or as shiny either. All systems are different so you may not need to use it for other topcoats but for OPI it gives the best result. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions. 😊
Hi Blake Calhoun, if you don’t have the clear powder then you can just do an extra coat of the colour. It will just be more coarse to file. The clear powder gives it a smoother finish. When you buff you’ll see colour coming off but it’s the 3rd coat so don’t worry just make sure you don’t buff too much off. When you have the clear then you know if colour is coming off then you’re going too far. Glad you like the video! Many thanks 😊
Hi Lisa, apologises for the delayed reply. It’s not necessary to use an E file. As long as you apply the base coat tidy then there shouldn’t be much filing to do and if you have good quality hand files then they do the work quickly. Glad you liked the demo. 😁
I just purchased this system to try at home after watching your great video. It looks much easier that it is when you are inexperienced and doing your own nails. I live in a small town in Idaho and NO ONE will do this treatment….therefore I am on my own. After putting on the first base coat and dipping, my nails stayed wet. What am I doing wrong?
Hi Lisa, so glad you enjoyed my video. ☺️ Yes it can take some practice to perfect it but I promise you will get there after a few sets. When you do the first base coat then dip the nails they don’t dry fully. Just enough to lightly dust off the excess powder and do the next coat of base before you dip again. They shouldn’t be wet as the powder will have absorbed into the base but they will be very soft. If very wet then too much base and not enough powder. They only harden properly when the activator is applied and wait 3-4 mins. Does this make sense? Happy to answer more questions if you have them. 😌
@@cherylcookeopinz Thanks so much for your quick reply! I must be putting the base coat on too thick as it powder sort of clumps too. Maybe I am leaving them in the powder too long as well. I so wish I could find someone here. I had this done in a salon in Denver. This gal was amazing. She used the white powder first, not last??? Best manicure ever!! I’m a pottery artist and it actually held up through when throwing on my wheel. Fingers crossed I can do this!!
@@lisabowman817 - ah yes must be too thick if it’s clumping too. You need to do the base thin enough that the powder sticks to it. So you know you’ve done it too thin when you dip and you get a missed patch where the base has already dried in the few seconds it takes to dip! So then that’s too thin so go thicker again so you can dip and get full coverage. You’ll see on the video I did a thin one and it shows you the missed bit. When you dip make sure you are at a 45 degree angle then actually say pause in the powder then take it out! 😂 Glad you’ve had a good experience before so you know it can be good and pottery is tough on your nails so well done! This is the best system for you for sure. 👍🏻 just got to nail doing it yourself. Hang in there I know you can do it with some practice. Sing out if you need anything more x
Hi!! Best video tutorial I’ve seen. I just purchased the whole opi dip powder system. Do you have to use the clear set powder? This is the first video I’ve seen it used in. I purchased everything but then I just happened to see this video.
Hi there, you don’t have to use the clear powder. OPI includes the clear powder step after the colour for 2 reasons. The clear powder is finer than the colour so it sits into all the little gaps and gives the nail a smoother finish which is faster to buff. Also by adding the clear layer then when you buff you don’t loose precious colour. If you don’t have clear powder then I suggest doing 3 coats of colour instead, the clear just gives you an even better finish. Hope this helps, thanks for watching x
Hi Amy, yes in theory this works. After buffing don’t worry about doing the top coat but you do need to clean the nails again and use gel base, GelColor then gel top coat. Just be mindful that the nails become quite thick with both systems used together. If you try it let me know your thoughts on it. 🙂
Hey, before you apply the gel top coat only buff the nails with a 180 file so it’s a rougher finish for the gel to fix to. Also you need to be applying a layer of base gel, cure that then apply top coat gel. That’s should do the trick and stop it peeling. Let me know if this fixes the problem for you ☺️
@@cherylcookeopinz thank you so much!!!! Omg I know some people wash their hands after buffing do you recommend that? Do you recommend washing before and after application of powder as well? Thank you so much The SNS top coat makes my eyelid and hands break out in blisters and it hurt and itches.. im glad to be able to use regular gel top coat 😌
@@Solid_Snack You’re welcome ☺️ Yes in salon it’s best practice to wash hands before every service. Also I know many salons that wash hands after buffing to remove the dust but it’s not essential. If you do just make sure they are fully dry with no water droplets left on the nails or hiding in the cuticle area. If you are getting itching after using product then you have developed an intolerance. Different brands have different ingredients so you may find you may not experience that with them all. Always make sure to avoid touching the skin with any nail product, that includes wiping errors with your thumb (this happens a lot) 😉 You can also develop similar intolerances with gel so be sure to use the product safely to avoid this happening down the line. Keep me posted on how the nails turn out with my tips x
n_dix0n Hi, sorry just seen your comment! That’s right only after the last coat of powder you need the activator. Then again after you buff. 👍🏻 thanks 😊
The activator is what hardens the dip powder. Without it the second you tried to buff the nail it would fall apart. That seals it in and makes it like cement. At least that is how I think of it. Hope that helps!
I’d like to use bubble bath but I’d like more coats of sheer than color. Can I do a couple coats of bubble bath and a couple coats of the color set powder?
Hi Ashley, Yes you can choose to do one coat of bubble bath if you want to then 2 coats of clear set if you want more of a sheer finish. Apologies for the late reply, thanks for watching. x
When using the OPI Perfecting Powder with tips....to cover the tip line do you use the clear powder or the color powder first? I usually only use the clear on top but this will be my first time using the color powder with tips. Any help would be great!
Hi Jessica, to support the extra weight of the tip then it’s best to reinforce the join area with an extra layer across the apex. I would use the colour powder for this and make sure you don’t apply it too thick. It’s best to feather out the base coat so you don’t see the join as well. Let me know how you get on 😉 👍🏻
Question for you! So 2 applications of color and 3rd application is the clear setting powder? Correct? Or 3 applications of colored powder and THEN clear setting powder?
Alex Harrison - if your brush goes hard then you need to soak it in acetone to dissolve the product and bring your brush back to life! Check out my second part 2 video on Powder Perfection as I mention about this in there. 👍🏻
Thank you! Glad you love the video. Your girls will love it when they have a play! The duster was given to my by a friend but I’m sure they must have got it at a beauty supply store in the US. It doesn’t have any writing/branding on it. If I find out more I’ll come back to you. 😊
Hiya, 😔 yes I’m sorry to say there is nothing you can do about a stringy and thick bottle. Time for the bin. To prevent this happening in the future you need to make sure you are not contaminating your brush with the activator so be careful and you can always wipe the brush to be sure before you put it back into the bottle. Good luck with the next bottle. ☺️
What do you think of using the clear for your structure without using a colour at all and just painting the nails after using activator? This is what I’ve been doing (personally, not on clients)
Hi Beauty By Bo Bena, I have tried a set with just the clear powder. I find that the finish isn’t clear enough to leave natural so you would need to apply some sort of polish/GelColor on top like you said you are. I find that doing that is a lot more steps than it needs to be but it does work. Ideally using the PP system with its own colours is the best option but you can get away with adding colour after if you need a particular shade and are prepared to put in the extra time and effort. How long do you find the nails last doing them like this?
Well sometimes I like to change my colour frequently so I always look for artificial products that allow me to remove and repaint and this seems to work - I was just wondering if you feel the clear is strong enough to use alone. It lasts long - like I’m on my 2nd week o think. Also, the nail colour will last as long as the nails last. I now won’t do my nails without something artificial under it. Also - can you do a video on refilling these?
That’s great they are lasting well, it certainly does work I would just say that the clear alone isn’t as strong as using a clear acrylic for example. As for refilling then we don’t recommend this as if there has been any lifting of the product and that’s not removed (which is impossible to see with colour particularly) then when applying the new product you could run the risk of trapping in bacteria and causing issues so please bear that in mind if you do this. Cleansing the nail with NAS 99 is essential as well. I probably won’t do a video on the application of this mainly as I don’t want to promote something I don’t recommend. Thanks for your questions 😊 hope this helped you. You can connect on Instagram as well and ask me anything you need to know there too. Thanks
If the kit that I have doesn't come with clear dip should I just use 3 layers of the color instead? I know it's not as fine, but I don't think the two layers was thick enough and they've started chipping after 3 days
Hi alex, yes that’s right use 3 layers of the colour instead is the best option. It means that when you file the nails you are always left with 2 good coats at least which gives you better strength. If you still experience chipping next time then make sure your prep is thorough and your applied product isn’t touching the skin. Let me know how you go. 👍🏻
Hi, I’m sorry I only just saw your comment. 😔 it’s probably a bit late now 🤦🏼♀️ I would just say that using the entire process is really important. Even missing one step is enough for the nails to fail or not last long. However to narrow it down for you, chipping could most likely be linked to the prep. Prep is THE most important step in applying nails. Make sure you buff enough but not too much to avoid damage to the nail. Also keeping each coat thin as thickness of product can also lead to chipping. Let me know if you are still attempting these nails and if you have solved the problem. Thanks for watching ☺️
Hi there, apologies for the late reply. 2 reasons here... either there wasn’t enough activator before you applied the top coat or the first or second top coat is applied too thick. Try adjusting these steps and let me know how you get on. 👍🏻
That’s a really good question. Haven’t got that problem yet. How old are they? If they have less than a year, are you sure you are closing the bottles tightly? If you have some product stuck at the entrance that might be why they are hardening, as they aren’t closed that well (you can get rid of that by cleaning your bottles with acetone and a lint free wipe every time after using) Tell me if it worked !!
Hi Mary, You can't thin the base or top coat of these products but you can prevent them becoming thick. Make sure that powder doesn't get transferred back into the bottle by dusting the nails sufficiently between coats. You can even wipe the brush on a lint free nail wipe before going back into the bottle as well. Also making sure your lid isn't off for too long and making sure the neck of the bottle is kept clean will all help with keeping the product from thickening. Hope this helps you, thanks for watching and apologies for the late reply. x
Hi Paola, thank you for watching. 😊 I don’t have links as yet as every region is different for buying product but it’s something I’m working on so I can help put people in touch with the right suppliers. Whereabouts are you from?
Hi Deanna, there is hope! You need to dip the brush into acetone and soak it until it softens the hardened glue. Then you can wipe the brush and just repeat until the brush feels back to normal again. This could take 10-20 mins maybe. Let me know how you get on! 👍🏻
Hola Lety, you have to be a professional nail technician to buy OPI powder perfection, check out OPI.com for a stockist near you. There are many dipping powders on the market if you are a beginner though. Google search for ‘dipping powders’ or try Amazon as there are lots of different ones on there. Hope this helps. Sorry I can’t reply in Spanish, I know enough to read your comment just but not good enough to reply! 😊
Hi Lisa, I recommend OPI but you usually need to be a professional to buy it. Check out your local beauty supply store and see what they have available as it’s different across the world. Sorry I can’t point you in the direction of one particular kit. Thanks 😊
Could you tell me once they grow out ! Do you have them filled or do you have to soak them off and start as fresh, if someone could reply I would really appreciate it .
Jadwiga Sims - yes the other comment is correct. You need to soak off the product completely and re apply each time. If you try to fill them then you run the risk of trapping bacteria.
Hiya, with OPI they don’t aim to build an apex as it not the focus for their dipping system. However you can apply extra layers of base coat at the apex and build the product that way. Just feather out each coat so that it’s smooth otherwise you’ll give yourself too much work at the filing stage and the result won’t look uniform. x (apologies for the late reply)
mjb2sons Hi, ideally you wouldn’t use tips when applying Powder Perfection. It’s better suited for natural nail overlays. This doesn’t mean you can’t use tips and people do however be mindful that it’s not designed to be sculpted with an Apex for strength to support tips and length. So for that result I would still use Acrylic instead primarily. Hope this answers your question. Thanks 😊
You can most certainly create an apex with tips while using the dip application! Check out Kiara Skie's Channels!...EVERYTHING you need to know, they have a video! I learned sooo much from their videos!!
Hi there!! I been doing dip for a while now and usually it last a very long time on my clients.(like 3-4 weeks before they come back and have it redone) But just recently within the last 2 weeks, I had 2 different clients come back in because there nails cracked. This never happen to me before and I don’t know why it happened. Do you know why or how that can possibly happen? What am I doing wrong? I’ve done the same steps on all my clients so I’m not sure is it me, or them being rough on it.(they say they aren’t being rough on there nails, but who knows). One of those clients came back twice cause the same nail cracked even after I redid it , to where I offer to redo her service and had her change her dip color to see if maybe it was just the previous color that was cracking. But after we changed color, about a week later she comes back and it’s the same finger that cracked. So I have no idea what it can be!
Hi Tammy Nguyen, hmmm ok one thing I want you to check is how old is your base coat? If that’s getting older and sticky then it may be less effective and thicker to apply which can cause cracking. If it’s a new bottle then check you aren’t applying it thicker than usual yourself. If that’s not the issue then check your activator is applied with the best coverage too. The client may be doing something specific that is affecting the nail that cracks, if the above doesn’t help then shortening the nails for a while to see if the lesser pressure improves the problem and also making sure she is using cuticle oil every day as well will keep the product more flexible too. Good luck and keep me posted 👍🏻
Hey Marcia, sure it’s just a cheap one from a shop here in New Zealand called The Warehouse. I got it a few years ago too sorry might be hard to find but I’m sure someone will have a similar one. If I see stacker rings like these esp flowers I grab them that’s why I have 3 plus the gem one so 4 on one thumb 😂 So maybe search for daisy/flower stacker ring and you may find one. Where do you live? Just found this. Similar I thought 😉 www.troubleandfox.co.nz/products/meadowlark-edenstackerringsterlingsilver?variant=1202612699162¤cy=NZD
Best dip video I've seen!!! I wish I would have seen this before wasting time on others 😊 Thanks so much!!

Hi @@aliceB357 This is a professional only product so only available for nail techs in beauty supply stores. Have a search online to see where you may be able to buy in your location. 😌
The nail teck I went to used a UV lamp to cure my OPI dip nails now n then. But you don't mention the UV light. Why?
Supplies:
-OPI Bond Aid pH Balancing Agent
-OPI Powder Perfection Step 1 Base Coat
-OPI Powder Perfection Step 2 Activation
-OPI Powder Perfection Step 3 Top Coat
-OPI Powder Perfection Dip Color Powder
-OPI Clear Setting Powder
-OPI nail file Edge 240
-OPI nail file Flex 220/280
-OPI nail file Flex 100/180
-OPI NAS 99 Nail Cleanse Solution
-OPI Pro Spa Nail and Cuticle Oil
-Tool to push back cuticles Pusher Plus
-Tool Dexterity for cuticle detailing
-Dust Brush
-Acetone to remove dip powder
Nail Prep:
1. Push back cuticles using Pusher Plus
2. Use tool Dexterity to detail cuticles
3. Work on nail length + shape using OPI Edge 240 nail file
4. Use OPI Flex 220 grey side to buff nail plate
5. After buffing, cleanse nails with OPI NAS 99 and lint free wipe to remove dust and oils
6. Apply OPI Bond Aid to all nails, 1 coat only, for maximum adhesion. After this, nails are prepped and ready to go. Be sure to not touch the surface after applying Bond Aid
Application of Powder:
1. Apply OPI Step 1 Base Coat nice and thin, just shy of cuticles, to stagger layers to create a tapered look, otherwise it will be chunky
If you skip this step, your base coat brush will harden
4. Apply 2nd base coat, closet to cuticles, then dip again. Repeat on all nails, then dust off excess powder
5. Apply 3rd base (final) base coat, closest to cuticles, then dip into CLEAR SET POWDER, not colored powder. This is a finer powder. Dust off any excess clear set powder
6. Apply OPI Step 2 Activator (3-4 mins dry time)
7. File nail with OPI Edge 180
8. Buff nails with OPI Flex 100/180, rough side first
9. Smooth nails with OPI Flex 220/280, finish with the smooth side of the file
10. Brush off any excess dust
11. Apply another layer of OPI Activator (this is the 2nd layer) after buffing (3-4 mins dry time)
12. Repeat steps 7-11 on the other hand
13. Make sure nails are dry from Activator application. Wipe nails with a dry, lint-free wipe before applying top coat
14. Apply OPI Step 3 Top Coat using minimal strokes and float your brush. Wipe the brush to avoid hardening
15. Apply a 2nd coat of Top Coat (allow 1-2 mins of dry time)
16. Wait 5 minutes to set and dry
17. Apply OPI Pro Spa Nail and Cuticle Oil to finish 💅🏽

😅 I don’t!
All I can say is thank you!!! I did it for the first time using your tutorial and it turned out great.
Thanks emm jay! So glad to hear it worked out so well for you! 😁 Hope you’ve done it again since and it’s still been awesome! Thanks for your comment x

Best video I’ve seen on dips!!! Great instructions thank you!!!
thank you so much for this informative video, cheryl! i watched it 9 times before trying because i was waiting for my supplies! i am obsessed.
This is such a helpful video! Thank you!!!
Base dip, base dip, base dip, base dip!!! I’ll never forget that lol. Thanks a lot!
Ha ha glad it helps! My life is full of little ditty’s to help me remember things. Hopefully you’ll smile now every time you dip 😁
I'm new to dipping and wanted an intro that showcases the steps and finish. Nice job!😊
Thank you so much 😊 Glad this helped!
its amazing how the dip system starting at the home level.... of women who couldnt mix the acrylics mix + brush blend properly. polygel is also home care invented.
Thank goodness for TH-cam right 😉
VERY GOOD

I like your video it was very easy in and I will watch it again
Thank you 😊

Cheryl Cooke OPI NZ yay 😀 looking forward to seeing you demonstrate girl Tc
You are so meticulous about the important details, well done girl 💯
Steph Mazvita Thank you! That means a lot! People ask me all the time, why are your nails in such good condition and how do you get product to last so well... it’s all in the details I say and I think that’s my secret to consistency and longevity for nail health and product that performs well. (I just had lacquer on that lasted almost 3 weeks!) 😁 Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate that x
I just had mine done, first time, they didn’t put that white powder or file to make them smooth so they stayed bumpy & then I wanted it shiny so I ask for another gloss coat & it got cloudy 😭, when I got home I filled them w/ the nail file & glossed over they look much better, smoother & glossy
Thanx for this upload
That’s such a shame that you go to get your nails done by a professional and end up having to finish yourself! So glad my video could help you and that you managed to fix them up. 👍🏻 How did they last seeing as it’s 3 weeks on now? 🤔
Thank you so much going to order and try this weekend.
Great! Did you have a go? How did you get on! 😁
Great video

Lovely video
Thanks 😊
Absolutely the best dip video!
Katie Garcia Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🙏❤️🙏

Well executed tutorial
Brenda Nguyen thank you 😊
Thanks so much for your video!
Hi! Thanks for your lovely comment 🥰
With regards to not drying fast, potentially the top coat was too thick.
Yes that did help. Thank you so much!
Great video! What color did you use please?
Thank you 😊 The colour is called Got Myself into a Jambalaya 😉
Hi Cheryl! First, thank you!! This video was amazing!! A couple of issues I’m having (using all OPI products!) Occasionally nails come out gritty/textured rather than smooth and the top coat tends to bubble up and clump after application. Any ideas what may be going wrong?
jenboo82 - Hi! Thank you for your lovely comment ☺️
Great to hear you are using the full OPI system.
Best video by far...buying this!
Yay! Glad you liked the video. Thank you 😊
Excellent tutorial,thanks so much. Gorgeous
Thank you so much rebecca! 🤗
Awesome. I've been curious about the powder trend a d whether I should try it. Your nails look great!
1slandgirl Caribbean - thank you! 😊 Yes give it a go and let me know how you get on 👍🏻😁
The cuticle technique is amazing! Xx
Katie Norris Thank you! 😊 Those Dexterity tools are the best!
this video was so helpful! i use tips so would it better to use one clear coat first for the tip to be secure, two color coats, and another clear? or would that be too chunky?
Hi Sophia Anne, glad you liked the video! You should experiment with doing an extra coat only across the join of the tip. Just apply over the join and the apex (the highest/mid point of the nail plate) feather out the base coat so you don’t get a solid line. This will give you extra strength at this vital area and help blend the join too and give the nail a fuller shape. Then go ahead with the 2 coats of colour and finish with the clear as shown in the video.
Let me know how you get on with this technique. (Thinking I need to do a video on this too 🤔😁) Thanks for watching!
Great video thanks for the help
Vickie Sites You’re welcome 😊 Thanks so much for watching!

I can’t found Bond Aid products to buy, can I use something else instead?
You’re welcome, apologies for the late reply. If you can’t get bond aid then you can use OPI Chip Skip instead 👍🏻 thanks for watching.
Hey Cheryl help I ran out of activator is there a substitute?
Hey Brandi, ah no sorry no substitute that I know of 🤔 I’m thinking if you wait long enough the base could dry on it’s own but don’t quote me on that as I haven’t tried it! Tap the nail to listen to the sound to know if it’s dried enough to buff. Let me know how you go! Maybe I’ll test it too! 😊
Do you have a step by step list to where I can print this out for future use?
Beautiful!
Yvonne Lasiter Thank you so much!

@@cherylcookeopinz yes thank you so much!
Beautiful tutoring thank you!

Thank you so much!! My nails look great!
Great! So good to get lovely feedback. Thanks so much for commenting 🧡
Great vid but do we need the activator again after filing ? Not seen it suggested twice on other dipping vids ? X
Great video! I was wondering if this will still work without the clear powder?
Hi Blake Calhoun, if you don’t have the clear powder then you can just do an extra coat of the colour. It will just be more coarse to file. The clear powder gives it a smoother finish. When you buff you’ll see colour coming off but it’s the 3rd coat so don’t worry just make sure you don’t buff too much off. When you have the clear then you know if colour is coming off then you’re going too far. Glad you like the video! Many thanks 😊
So, you do not need to by a battery operated or electric filer?. You made this look so easy. TY for the demo.
Yes it can take some practice to perfect it but I promise you will get there after a few sets.
Glad you’ve had a good experience before so you know it can be good and pottery is tough on your nails so well done!
Cheryl Cooke OPI NZ thank you!! I think I’ll purchase it ☺️
Can you do a clear dip and paint gel polish over it?
Hi Amy, yes in theory this works. After buffing don’t worry about doing the top coat but you do need to clean the nails again and use gel base, GelColor then gel top coat. Just be mindful that the nails become quite thick with both systems used together. If you try it let me know your thoughts on it. 🙂
Great tutorial!!
Thank you so much Debbie! 🤗

I like the LED gel top coat better because it's shiner but it keeps peeljng off... can i use gel top method or what am i doing wrong? 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Omg
I know some people wash their hands after buffing do you recommend that?
Do you recommend washing before and after application of powder as well? Thank you so much
The SNS top coat makes my eyelid and hands break out in blisters and it hurt and itches.. im glad to be able to use regular gel top coat 😌
@@Solid_Snack You’re welcome ☺️
Yes in salon it’s best practice to wash hands before every service.
Keep me posted on how the nails turn out with my tips x
so you don’t need to use the activator after each color layer you only need it for the last one?
n_dix0n Hi, sorry just seen your comment!
Donna Lynn that’s right. Thanks for adding to this question 😉
Apologies for the late reply, thanks for watching. x
Nice work Cheryl!
Ant Utama Thanks heaps! 😊
Let me know how you get on 😉 👍🏻
Amazing

Cheryl Cooke OPI NZ what if my top coat brush becomes hardened? How do I fix that!
Alex Harrison - if your brush goes hard then you need to soak it in acetone to dissolve the product and bring your brush back to life! Check out my second part 2 video on Powder Perfection as I mention about this in there. 👍🏻

What can I do about a thick base coat? By bottle is all stringy and thick. Is it too late for it now? 😢
Thanks
😉👍🏻
If the kit that I have doesn't come with clear dip should I just use 3 layers of the color instead? I know it's not as fine, but I don't think the two layers was thick enough and they've started chipping after 3 days
Hi alex, yes that’s right use 3 layers of the colour instead is the best option. It means that when you file the nails you are always left with 2 good coats at least which gives you better strength.
If you still experience chipping next time then make sure your prep is thorough and your applied product isn’t touching the skin. Let me know how you go. 👍🏻
My problem is that the nails only last a day or 2 and then start chipping. I haven't used this entire process but wondering where I'm going wrong!
Why is my second application of my top coat not drying?
Hi there, apologies for the late reply. 2 reasons here... either there wasn’t enough activator before you applied the top coat or the first or second top coat is applied too thick. Try adjusting these steps and let me know how you get on. 👍🏻
What can you use to thin your base coat and top coat when they start getting think?
That’s a really good question. Haven’t got that problem yet. How old are they? If they have less than a year, are you sure you are closing the bottles tightly? If you have some product stuck at the entrance that might be why they are hardening, as they aren’t closed that well (you can get rid of that by cleaning your bottles with acetone and a lint free wipe every time after using)
Tell me if it worked !!
Hope this helps you, thanks for watching and apologies for the late reply. x
Great video!! Do you have the links for the products that you used?
Hi Paola, thank you for watching. 😊 I don’t have links as yet as every region is different for buying product but it’s something I’m working on so I can help put people in touch with the right suppliers. Whereabouts are you from?
My top coat brush has stiffened up. I understand now why it happened, but is there anyway to fix it? Or do I need to buy a new one?
Hi Deanna, there is hope! You need to dip the brush into acetone and soak it until it softens the hardened glue. Then you can wipe the brush and just repeat until the brush feels back to normal again. This could take 10-20 mins maybe. Let me know how you get on! 👍🏻
Muy interesante, dónde puedo comprar el kit completo? para hacerme yo misma uñas,
Hola Lety, you have to be a professional nail technician to buy OPI powder perfection, check out OPI.com for a stockist near you.
There are many dipping powders on the market if you are a beginner though. Google search for ‘dipping powders’ or try Amazon as there are lots of different ones on there. Hope this helps. Sorry I can’t reply in Spanish, I know enough to read your comment just but not good enough to reply! 😊
Would you be able to recommend a starter kit and where to order please and thank you?
Hi Lisa, I recommend OPI but you usually need to be a professional to buy it. Check out your local beauty supply store and see what they have available as it’s different across the world. Sorry I can’t point you in the direction of one particular kit. Thanks 😊
Could you tell me once they grow out ! Do you have them filled or do you have to soak them off and start as fresh, if someone could reply I would really appreciate it .
You'll have to soak them off and reapply each time for best results.
Jadwiga Sims - yes the other comment is correct. You need to soak off the product completely and re apply each time. If you try to fill them then you run the risk of trapping bacteria.
kierstenturner94 thank you for answering this question correctly. 👍🏻
Other dip systems allow for you to build an apex for nail tips, how would you do this with opi

Great video. How do you build an apex when using tips?
mjb2sons Hi, ideally you wouldn’t use tips when applying Powder Perfection.
I just paid $50 plus tip for dip nails that I’m not pleased with. I’m going to order some colours and a drill and practice at home! Thanks :)
So sorry to hear you got a bad service. Did you get the kit and have a go yet? It’s easy with practice and when you know how. 😊

Hi Alexandra, no need for UV or LED lamp for dipping systems. It’s one of the perks to choosing this over gels. 👍🏻
